My darling boy's birthday today

We gave him a Fisher Price Little People garage as his main present, which he loves, as well as loads of Bob the Builder trucks and Thomas the tank engine bits.

He's currently having a nap, then we're having a little birthday tea later.

A good day SM x

Howdy all. I am off work at the minute because our childminder is on holiday.
Last week Evelyn spent the week with my older sister (childless and probably remaining that way after looking after my energetic child!), though I was off on Thursday with it being my sisters birthday and I thought it was a bit unfair for her not to have a break.
I am off now until Thursday, then DH is off Friday, Mon and Tue before Evelyn goes back to the CM on Wed.
Yesterday, as I have been poorly again, my younger sister (also childless) took Evelyn out for a bit and baked cakes with her, and Evelyn ate all the sprinkles off the top before we could have any!

Hope everybody is okay.

YF - it took ages for me to understand some of Evelyn's words, esp as she struggles with a letter or so sometimes, so it is a case of playing rhyming games with her! Her counting has gone from the 1 to 10 no issues to 1, 2, 8 and I have no idea why!

MB - good luck with the mindees - it sounds like it is going to go well.

mawbroon · 31/01/2008 13:46

Ah well. It had to happen sooner or later. Johnny has learned how to tantrum. They are just small tantrums in the grand scheme of things, but for him they are quite major. He threw one in the shopping centre, but I just wrestled him into the backpack where he could kick and complain as much as he liked. Evil mother. He calmed down when we got home, but threw another one shortly after we got in. I am not too phased by this as I have learned that a quick breastfeed restores his default setting I bought him new shoes today and he is now in a size 5G in case anyone is interested

ElfOnTheTopShelf - Impressed at your childless sisters looking after Evie. Mine would both recoil at the thought I think. Saying that, my sis is babysitting on Saturday night, but Johnny will be tucked up in bed, so hardly the same.

This weather is crazy. Our slide/chute thing in the garden blew over and I can't put anything in the recycling boxes as it will end up strewn all down the street. I can't wait for spring....

mawbroon · 31/01/2008 13:48

YF - interesting that you go grey with exercise. So do I (even when not pg) and have fainted too. That's why I don't do anything more vigorous than walking or swimming. People just don't seem to understand how awful it makes me feel.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 31/01/2008 15:57

You know what MB, I love the suggested name, I think I may keep it, seems fitting!

My sisters always offer to look after Evelyn, we come from a large family (my side and DH) and they all fight to look after her

Sorry to hear about the tantrum - Evelyn throws a couple every now and again, mostly at bedtime

Got the inlaws up for dinner tonight, no mumsnetting for me tonight!

mawbroon · 31/01/2008 17:14

Oh wow, I was all worried that you might be offended

Poor Johnny. I think he was feeling shite all day the poor lamb. I have been a bit lax on the dairy front and I've given him some of my toast in the morning for the last couple of days. Of course, my toast has butter on it. Here's me thinking "ach, he must have got over this 'temporary' intolerence by now" and lo and behold, this afternoon, he screams with pain and then does a really nasty poop which contained the brown beans that he ate less than 3 hours beforehand. He hasn't had brown beans for weeks, so I know exactly how long they have been in his system. No wonder the poor boy is not behaving to his usual standard

No MNetting for me either tonight. I'm going out on the town with Pruners. LOL, sounds wild, but I am tee total

Yokefleet · 03/02/2008 16:25

Hope you both had a good night on Thursday xxx

Not been up to much this weekend as the sickness has stepped up a gear again! paul has been a star though bless him and I am dreading him going back to work tomorrow but it can't be helped.

Thomas has decided that he likes tickling mummies tummy! He has several times today come and lifted my top up whilst I have been dozing on the sofa to tickle me, best bit is his giggling as he is coming up to me so at least I know what is coming!! xxx

mawbroon · 03/02/2008 21:17

Oh Bah to sickness YF. Yes, we had a nice time on Thursday and are meeting up again this week with Nailpolish too. I am starting to feel like I have a bit of a social life again since we moved back to Edinburgh.

We had a busy weekend. We were watching Johnny's cousin on Saturday. He is seven months younger, but they are not too different size wise. By pure coincidence, they were both wearing the same tops which Granny had given them and when we were in the museum, there were lots of people giving me and DH sympathetic looks! I think they must have thought they were twins, even though they look nothing alike!

We were visiting my brother and family today and when we go there, Johnny always gets completely over excited and ends up a disaster! Couple this with a temperature and we had a lot of wailing and demanding breastfeeding. He seemed ok by bedtime though and hopefully he will be right as rain tomorrow.

I have been charting again and I ovulated the other day, so can get back on track ttc. If I fall pregnant this cycle, the baby would be due the same week that Johnny was, and I would probably have a section on or around Johnny's birthday!

We are going to see my parents tomorrow for a couple of nights. DH is away down south for his work, so Johnny and I will go for a couple of nights. It's great not having to do the cooking and cleaning for a couple of days.

DontlookatmeImshy · 06/02/2008 20:10

hello ladies. hope you are all well. hope the ms settles down soon YF. haven't had time to catch up on all the posts yet, but i have had a couple of hectic weeks.

started feeling ill a couple of sundays ago. by tuesday pm i was confined to bed with some horrendous cough//cold/flu type lurgy and dh had to take time off work to look after ds. he ended up taking the rest off the week off as i could hardly get out of bed. also had some major coughing fits which made me throw up or wet myself - damn that worn out pelvic floor and also seemed to set off quite a few braxton hicks

On top of this we had already arranged ds's christning for last sunday. my family had a crisis a few days beforehand and with me feellng ill we thought we might have to postpone it. fortunately i recovered enough to make it to church and the crisis was sorted and we thought everything would be ok. then at 8.30am sunday we got 2 phonecalls to tell us that 2 seperate godparents were really ill and couldnt make it, so after a near nervous breakdown and tearful phone call to the vicar (who was wonderful) we had 2 proxy godparents and when it finally went ahead it went very well. Just wish i hadn't been so ill and stressed and could've enjoyed it all a bit more.

dh was due to go back to work monday but the weekend had worn me out again so he booked another few days off which was fortunate as he was due to be away in london on tuesday.

tuesday morning i could feel more BH's and i had small bleed (and minor panic given my pp history) so phoned the hospital and they said come in for a check. bleeding had stopped by the time we got there, they hooked me up to the monitor for quite a while and told me i wouldn't be going home that day as what I thought were BH's weren't BH at all but the start of the real thing!! (I am only 34+4) so i have been in hospital since then having steroids for the baby's lungs and tablets to stop the contractions. fortunately baby is fine and happy and things have settled down so fingers crossed i will be going home tomorrow. first thing i will be doing is packing a proper hospital bag.

Blimey, sorry for such a long post!! please excuse any typos and punctuation errors. patientline keypads aren@t the easiest things to use

Yokefleet · 06/02/2008 21:00

oh god sorry to hear that you have had a bad few weeks DLAMIS, I hope that you get home tomorrow and give us another update hunni x
Glad all is well with your baby and that you are feeling back to yourself soon xxx

mawbroon · 07/02/2008 13:37

DLAMIS - my goodness, you must have got a surprise when they told you they weren't braxton hicks! I'm glad things are looking ok for you. Hopefully your LO will stay put until it's time. Was it you or was it somebody else who spent a fair length of time in hospital ante-natally for the october 05 baby?

We have had a rough few days with Johnny. His sleeping hasn't been great, but a quick cuddle was enough to get him to settle. I went to stay with my folks for two nights and the first night he cried until 9pm then woke at 5.15am for the day. Then the second night, he went to sleep no bother at 7pm but then woke at 4am and wouldn't go back to bed. i took him in with me to feed and cuddle, but it's not the same as getting proper sleep. However, now we are home again, he seems to be grand and has amused himself all morning and been very well behaved indeed. Perhaps he just hates the change being away from home.

And today, I noticed one of his back teeth has finally broken through. One more to go and then that's the lot!

DontlookatmeImshy · 08/02/2008 21:26

yes that was me mb. that was for grade4 placenta previa, but they don't know what the problem is this time.

dh asked me a couple of days ago if i 'did' nomal pregnancies. i told hiim apparently not and any plans for a no.3 might have to be put on hold - forever

im still here, started with pains and bleeding again at midnight. stopped now though so now aim to be home tomorrow.

mawbroon · 09/02/2008 10:07

How are you today DLAMIS? I hope they let you home today. [fingers crossed] Are you bored shitless or enjoying a bit of rest? My guess would be bored shitless. Nobody likes being in hospital....

Johnny slept through last night That is the third night since New Year, thank God. I was beginning to think that I would never get a full night's sleep ever again. I think he realised that wailing from 3am until 4am the night before wasn't going to get him anywhere any more. I was so grumpy yesterday that DH said he would get up with Johnny in the morning. However, this morning, he seemed to think that because I'd had a full night's sleep that the offer didn't apply any more. But after hassling him, he did get up and do Johnny's breakfast etc. He even managed to empty the dishwasher and tidy up the breakfast dishes. Progress indeed.

Yokefleet · 10/02/2008 17:24

DLAMIS - Hope that you are now relaxing at home (fingers crossed) Seriously though I hope that you are home and all is well.

MB- How did Johnny sleep for you last night? Hope the sleeping through continued for a second night. I don't know how I am gonna cope with a toddler and a new baby with disrupted sleep!

MS seems to have slowed off - thankfully! I actually managed to face the supermarket today which is very unusual these days!

Hope all is well with everyone else too x

mawbroon · 10/02/2008 19:06

Alas, no second night sleeping through.... He woke at 4am and cried until 4.30am. I didn't give him any breastfeeding though and tonight, he confirmed to me that he knew that there was no milk until the morning. He didn't nap this afternoon though, despite being whacked after going swimming. He fell asleep later on in the afternnon in the car on the way home from the museum, so I sat in the car on the driveway with him sleeping for half an hour. The neighbours must have been wondering what on earth I was doing! I bunged him in bed at 6.45pm as he was just pissing about instead of drinking milk and he is now up there talking about barn owls and hydraulic excavators.... I am seriously quite freaked out that he knows what a bloody hydraulic excavator is. He is 2 FFS

Yokefleet · 11/02/2008 17:28

pmsl MB! bless him!

mawbroon · 12/02/2008 14:44

What a beautiful day here. I had to scrape the car at 9.30am but by 11am it was almost warm enough to sit out!! I took Johnny to the city farm as we were in the neighbourhood collecting something. He loved it except for the cow which mooed and frightened him.

He hasn't slept through again since the other night and I am beginning to wonder if he ever will... I have told DH that there is no point in me going through as refusing Johnny milk just makes him worse. So the options were that we just leave him, or dh goes through. So, DH has been going through to him. Maybe this is the problem. We perhaps just need to leave him otherwise he will never stop shouting for us. It's so hard to listen to though. DH has been complaining about being tired because he's up in the night. Well, now you bloody know how I have felt for the last 2.3 years

We finally have solid poop again after getting a bit lax with the dairy. I can't believe that three days in a row with a little butter on half a slice of toast was enough to cause runny poop for over a week. We are supposed to be getting an allergy appointment where they will also do some dairy allergy tests, but I haven't heard from the hospital yet. That reminds me, I will phone them to chase.

I hope everybody is well, it's got so quiet on here these days. Does anybody want to do MSN?

Yokefleet · 13/02/2008 18:00

The weather has been lovely here too MB, we have been out to the beach everyday this week so far as my niece is on half term too it has been lovely. Each day we have managed to sit out on my parents balcony and have a picnic lunch too which has been great. The forecast is not so good for the rest of the week so we thought we should make the most of the sun whilst it was out!
Have you got an appointment yet for the allergies MB? Its seems ages ago that you told us about it before.
I would have slapped dh if he complained about the getting up MB! To be fair Paul wasn't great when Thomas was a baby with the nights but Thomas has had a few bad nights with colds etc recently and Paul is getting up straight away without question to see to him as he knows that I will get sick if I move to quickly!
I never remember to sign in to my MSN tbh MB!
I struggle to remember to brush my own hair though at the minute
DLAMIS i hope that you are back at home and feeling well.
Elf - How are things with you hunni? Are you back to full health?
SM - Hope all is well with you and Joey too.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 13/02/2008 18:33

Howdy all
I noticed how quiet it was on here recently. I dont have MSN though but can download it though MN is great at lunch

I think I am back to full health but not wanting to tempt it!!

Work is really busy which prevents me posting too much (and when I do get on I end up getting sucked into the heated threads!) as got to get through year end with my ever decreasing members of staff!

Will catch up properly later

Hi myjobismum, welcome back and congratulations! There are a few of us pg on here at the moment - I am 19 weeks now. We had the second scan this week and saw baby wriggling around, everything looks fine. Didn't find out the sex this time - last 2 pregnancies we have known we were expecting girls so thought that this time we'd see what is was like not to know in advance. I am starting to worry about how I'll cope with 3 - was doing bathtime last night and realised there's not enough room for 3 of them in there, so we will have to do staggered bathtimes which will take even longer - it already takes me an hour to get them both to bed!

Alice is at a really sweet age at the moment, she plays very nicely with dd1 most of the time and they are keeping each other entertained during half term so I am on MN in the middle of the day!

Hope they let you out of hospital soon DLAMIS.

mawbroon · 14/02/2008 12:27

Hi myjobismum (and everyone else!) yes, I do remember you from a while back. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Now if you can just make it all nice and neat so that this baby shares a birthday with your ds Are Elf and I the only ones not pregnant on this thread?

I have still been charting since I miscarried, and I have no bloody idea what the heck is going on. Johnny waking at stupid times is not helping the temperature chart, and I was producing egg white for ten days!! So, I have no idea if I actually ovulated or if my body just gave up trying. Ho hum, it will happen when my body is ready I suppose. And please don't let my moaning stop you ladies posting about your pregnancies!

I am glad that you are feeling better Elf, it seemed like a long time that you were ill, so goodness knows how long it must have felt to you!! And DLAMIS I am hoping that you are home and well too.

I chased the hospital about Johnny's tests and they assured me that they will be sending out an appointment soon. I don't mind the waiting, it's just that I was worried that we were lost in the system somewhere. I am not looking forward to the appointment though. Two skin prick tests and a blood sample On the plus side, his thumb seems to be straightening much better so hopefully he won't have to have surgery.

Hmm, this post sounds full of woe!! We are actually having a great time at the moment. Johnny seems to be getting much more physically confident at the park and soft play and the like. We have been watching his cousins a few times this week as SIL and BIL have been really ill, and he has been having a great time spending so much time with them.

I'm not pregnant either!

mawbroon · 15/02/2008 14:14

Nice to see you stinky. Are you back to full fitness do you think? Did you get your issues sorted with your boss?

With this lovely weather, I have taken Johnny to the park three times this week. He has come on so much! He always needed lifted and helped with everything and is very cautious. Today, with a little encouragement, he climbed up a 10ft or so high helter skelter and whizzed down on his own. Then he went back to do it about another 49 times!

And thank goodness, the book about the hydraulic excavator has gone back to the library!!

stinkymalinki · 15/02/2008 14:50

I'm back to normal as much as is possible, health wise (my back's never going to be that brilliant, and i'll always have problems, but i seem to be managing for now!), and yes i got my issues relating to my boss sorted! From the 1st of April, i'm reducing my hours so that i only have to work 2 days a week which removes the problem of childcare (just not my cash flow)

We've been out lots enjoying the weather too - last weekend we were sat on the beach with our coats off, and we went to the zoo Wednesday in brilliant sunshine and blue skies. Joey decided he didn't want the pushchair, but to his credit, he did walk a good 2 miles round, including down then back up a steep slope to see the elephants(with lots of stopping to inspect blades of grass etc!) so i didn't have to carry him at all - all the better for my back!

I just wish i could start TTC again, but i know we have to follow medical orders - they wouldn't be saying it for no reason, unfortunately, and i can't risk jeopardising caring properly for Joey just for the sake of a new baby at this stage. Roll on 6 months or so time....!
