Sorry about your shit day Sputnik. Hope tomorrow is better for you.

Best present? Well, we got plenty of cute clothes, but I think my favourites are a lovely rattle and a cute bunny toy. The bunny only came this Tuesday, and has been the first cuddly toy that she has paid any attention to, which is part of the reason I like it so much.

BadZelda · 27/09/2007 21:20

Tell me about it...was lovely of mum to look after ella - but not so funny having to make a 2.5 hour round trip on London transport to pick her up!

daisyandbabybootoo · 27/09/2007 21:21

wise words oh great sage

DD didn't get many pressies either, certainly not as many as DS did.

And most of them were silly dresses that she would never wear so I took loads of stuff back and swapped for leggings and trousers.

I had her in a skirt when she was about 8 weeks old and it kept shimmying under her armpits....with her big turquoise wonderoos nappy she looked bloody ridiculous.

DH has had me prettying up his CV today...there are a few jobs he can apply for....IN YORKSHIRE. One of them is seriously well paid too and in Sheffield so a daily commute! Wish him luck!!!!!

Jamantha · 27/09/2007 21:22

Well I'm mostly packed, just a few things to gather up in the morning from her bedroom that are needed overnight. Am embaressed about the amount of stuff. 1 medium holdall for Mummy, 1 small bag and 8 carriers for baby, plus the pushchair of course. Thank god we've got a travel cot and bouncy chair waiting for us at the other end! So I'm off to bed now and won't be back til Tuesday, have nice weekends everybody.

trendaverter · 27/09/2007 21:42

I just watched that bringing up baby thing

I am a bit like that 50's woman

I have left DS in the garden... and left him crying... and went back to work... and ignored him during night feeds....

I am no way as extreme but oops yes I admit it

riabutterflew · 27/09/2007 21:42

have a nice time J. there is something so special about grandads and babies (and grannies of course, just not of the pil variety)

blimey, a chance to pass on some of my "experience". daisy, when I was a dinner lady each class had their own, and for the little ones she would be with them throughout dinner and always checked their boxes before they went out to play. if your ds is regularly not eating it might be worth having a word and making sure they are checking (my DN didn't have any lunch at all on his first day cos he couldn't open his own lunch box - not my school btw). if they are checking and he's not keen on eating at school they should have reward strategies (stickers etc) to encourage him. bloody schools.

someone mentioned earlier au pairs doing everything. in the kindergarten where my sister was offered a job in the middle east, the maids do everything except discipline. there was one child who was only just learning to walk up and down stairs because the maid carried them everywhere

trendaverter · 27/09/2007 21:43

have a good weekend jamantha

Daisy did you try a bumgenius yet?

riabutterflew · 27/09/2007 21:49

daisy, if you're still about, oh Leeds guru, what is the royal armouries like for lively 3yos?

good luck to your dh btw.

sputnik · 27/09/2007 21:54

I ignore Baby Sputnik during night feeds as I'm generally asleep

loonylovegood · 27/09/2007 21:55

Evening, hope everyone is ok.

Daisy, how brilliant if your dh can get work nearer you! I know we slag of the menfolk, but they can sometimes be useful and it would be lovely to have him to support you during the week. Fingers crossed for him!

Have a lovely time at the parents' Jamantha! Hope you get spoilt!

I have to say my mum has bought everything for ds! I have bought him....a pack of vests, a pair of trousers and 2 tops! I am not spoilt...honest!

my M&D are fab and like to buy things for the boys and always have done. mil promised to buy us a pram for ds1 and we're still waiting. luckily as my sister emigrated dm bought all her stuff for us.

when ds1 was small pils were too busy buying stuff for dhs other kids to make him feel useless. since the other gcs were born i know for a fact sil is VERY clever and takes mil shopping for winter coats and party clothes and studio photography etc, all of which mil pays for. all we get on a regular basis are empty promises, hot air and constant sniping at dh cos the others all have more money than us (now, why is that?)

she has bought 2 outfits for ds3, but she buys them then doesn't see us for weeks, so they are nearly too small.

i#m not bitter

sputnik · 27/09/2007 22:22

Ooo don't get me started on sizes. SIL buys stuff for DD, which is lovely of course. It used to always be much too small, now she has gone to the other extreme and buys stuff for 7-year olds. She's bought shoes several times but never rang me to ask what size to get, so none of them fit. Was she hoping too randomly guess the size . She is very sweet though so i shouldn't complain.

daisyandbabybootoo · 27/09/2007 22:23

ria, we took DS when he was 3 and he got a bit bored, but we were ther in the holidays and as a 5 year old, he loved it.

It all gets a bit samey to my mind...oh look another spear, another gun, another shield etc etc, but there are some good bits and new interactive displays. There is a mahoosive armoured elephant as well which DS loves and they put on medieval jousting tournaments and fencing displays at times. I would like to read all the displays, but sadly have to chase after DS most of the time.

It's free though, so that softens the blow a bit, and they have a picnic area so you're not bound by the horrendous prices in the cafe.

When are you thinking of going? D'you want to meet for a coffee?

TA, all real nappy activity suspended while I try to sort out DDs nasty nasty exzema (sp?) on her nappy area, so noooo. If we can't get this sorted I will have to revert to despicables

sputnik · 27/09/2007 22:31

Actually i am an ungrateful bitch. going through the baby clothes today I found a load of stuff new that DD never wore because I didn't like it. SSo people would be wasting their money giving me baby clothes anyway

riabutterflew · 27/09/2007 22:37

thanks daisy. i think dh is going to take ds1 on his own sometime. i think he found it hard with the two of them today (teehee).

I had a lovely time with ds3 (who was angelic) at the designer outlet. the only drawback is i am too fat and too poor to buy clothes there, but i got woolly hats for the boys from next for 50p each(!), stuff for my mum and bits for her b'day & xmas presents. i bought a book on ayurveda too. wonder if i'll get time to read it...

daisyandbabybootoo · 27/09/2007 22:39

sputnik, DH was in Italy a lot when DS was little and just before he was born. He tried to find some nice clothes but said the only baby shops he could find were full of frills and lace. He said it all looked a bit victorian and frou frou.

I suspect he just wasn't looking in the right places

He did bring him a t-shirt with Torino on the front and nice bright colours though!

Right am off to express and then off to bed with my herbal tea.

My sacro-iliac joint is bothering me again (pelvic floor exercises anyone?) and I'm getting rubbish sleep. am doping mysefl with co-codamol tonight though, as I'm sure being knackered isn't helping the tantrum control measures.

riabutterflew · 27/09/2007 22:42

also, after i fed ds in the baby room i was going to have a grown up moment and treat myself to a cup of tea and cake. sadly dh and the uncontrollables appeared before i managed it. the cup of tea was still gorgeous, but it wasn't peaceful and stress-free like i planned.

riabutterflew · 27/09/2007 22:44

might go to whitby/guisborough tomorrow if the weather's nice.

nite all.

Rx

sputnik · 27/09/2007 22:55

If it's bad nappy rash Daisy I found this really good.
DD also had a spot of excema ocasionally and I used a cream which seemed to work. Will try and look it up tomorrow for you

sputnik · 27/09/2007 23:06

Italian baby clothes are crap and excruciatingly expensive on the whole. The only nice place is Benetton. I also got excited recently cos a new shopping centre opened with a Zara that does children's clothes. I get a lot of stuff online from the uk.

BadZelda · 27/09/2007 23:16

Isn't doublebase supposed to be good for excema?

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 28/09/2007 08:11

Mornin!

DH woke me up again this morning at 6am!!!
He wanted to know if the dog had been out???? WTF!!
He is out playing golf early tomorrow morning so prob will wake me up then too!!

BadZelda · 28/09/2007 08:46

loonylovegood · 28/09/2007 09:06

OMG, I'm think I'm going to freeze to death! My house is officially the Arctic!

DKMA, I feel for you on the whole golf thing. My dp goes out stupidly early at weekends to play. He wakes me up and then buggers off. He then spends the whole day moaning about how tired he is?! DON'T GET UP AT 6 TO PLAY GOLF THEN YOU STUPID ARSE!
