Still waiting for my little man to arrive but starting a thread ready. Can't wait to catch up with all the other May 20 mums.

Huge congratulations to those who have already met their little ones. It's been quite a scary time to face giving birth recently and you've all done amazingly.

Welcome to all the new arrivals, I’ve forgotten who I’ve congratulated and who I haven’t!

Doing well here, got weighed and Noah now 8lb 13 so doing so well. Breastfeeding is great but hard work. Some nights feeds every hour so not getting a huge amount of sleep and daytimes difficult as either feeding or cuddling as won’t settle and feeling sorry for my 4 year old. Did manage to make cakes with him yesterday - small victories!

I’ve given the odd bottle of Formula some evenings when he has constantly fed and fed and fed and still demanding more. Normally takes a couple of ounces then settles. Only happens about once a week but I like the fact he will take a bottle if need be.

Hi @goosious I think the best thing you can do is forget about any sort of sleep pattern at this stage and try and sleep when she does as a way to catch up from broken night time sleep. I'd be trying to get her to sleep after every feed if she is fighting sleep and becoming irritable and over stimulated you could try swaddling which is a comfort for some babies. Walking around for the movement or some white noise like the hair dryer or hoover may also have a soothing effect. My baby is 3 weeks now, he feeds and sleeps and has the odd awake spell where he is not feeding and I put him in his little chair to chill out. If he's been sleeping all day and has an awake spell at night I might give him a bath to tire him out for bedtime sleep.
Hope this helps. Congrats on issabelle Flowers

@Lu1u Last night was a bit of a wash out lol I got a couple of hours sleep and today is my birthday. So between lack of sleep and lockdown, it's a right off 😂

Had the HV come today for the home visit and Wren has put on 40g in 6 days.

Delbelleber · 05/06/2020 17:45

Happy birthday @Raindancer411Cake

Raindancer411 · 05/06/2020 22:18

Thank you 😊

Anyone else's baby gone a bit dry and peely? Like you do after a sunburn?

This article tells me all normal but just wondered if anyone else had experienced it - not sore or red just dry!

@Raindancer411 happy birthday! FlowersCake

@goosious I think it's best not to stress about when baby is sleeping at the moment and just follow their lead. It's really difficult the nights when they're up every hour, but napping with baby in the day can help you catch up a bit. Circadian rhythm doesn't develop until 3 or 4 months so I don't think it's anything you can train your baby to do. Much better to relax and go with the flow. Give yourself a break. You're doing a great job! Smile

We are on day 3 now and I have some breastfeeding questions. She seems to latch on fine and start sucking, then very quickly appears to fall asleep but continue sucking for a while. Is she actually feeding at this point? It's quick sucks then a pause, then repeat. I am still producing colostrum, not mature milk.

AlmostAlwyn · 06/06/2020 05:26

@woollycat it's obviously difficult to comment without seeing in person, but it sounds fine to me! Does she seem relaxed at the breast? Having wet and dirty nappies?

Emmacb82 · 06/06/2020 06:24

@woollycat sounds very normal. She’s very young still and will get tired quickly. The first part of the feed is where they get the most milk and then they tend to use the breast for comfort a lot. Mine still does it now at 5 weeks, he will suck a lot and really draw the milk for the first few minutes and then will drift off and suck every now and then. They just love being close to their mummy! X

Naughtysausage · 06/06/2020 10:22

@woollycat sounds completely normal. It's what my DS is doing right now. Sometimes if I think he's forgotten what he's doing I'll stroke his cheek and then he'll take a few sucks. But go by nappies and weight gain.

@helpasisterout yes mine is all peely too. Someone earlier mentioned it's worse after a bath, but we haven't got further than a couple of top and tails yet. So I guess it's just an adjustment to bring dry all the time?

And @Raindancer411 Happy belated birthday! Hope you got cake.

We went out for a drive yesterday, just 20 mins or so and it was lovely. Baby slept, DS chatted away and ate a snack and it was so nice being out and it not being for a midwife appt!

Raindancer411 · 06/06/2020 12:00

@Naughtysausage After some searching my hubby managed to get a dairy free tray bake (son had dairy allergy so couldn't not include him in enjoying it). Wasn't the most normal of birthdays but it was nice to just have the little bubble of hubby, son, new daughter and myself here.

Raindancer411 · 06/06/2020 12:02

Has not had Hmm Maybe by fone knows something we don't lol He was due an allergy test last month but that's all on hold now.

Raindancer411 · 06/06/2020 21:47

Anyone else's babies projectile vomit?

Caspianberg · 07/06/2020 12:13

Peeling babies, as mentioned above, we had a super peeling baby for 2-3 weeks. Keeping baths to a minimum and oiling up after bath has helped hugely.
He's now 5 weeks, and peels a bit after a bath still but no where near what he did, so i think it is as mentioned just a case of them getting used to the outside.
We had a week of having to oil up head to toe twice a day as so bad, now we just add a bit to hand and feet a few hours after washing if needed.

Is it normal for babies at the age to not actually 'do' anything? Ours just feeds, sleeps, poops. Any awake time he has to be held or rocked or bounced in chair, otherwise he just cries. Can't lay on mat to 'play' yet, or just sit him on lap and look around etc. He doesn't yet really look at anything either if we wave it in face or if say cat is right near him.

november90 · 07/06/2020 13:18

@Raindancer411 yes it is! Both of mine have done it. The concerns is if they do it alongside reflux/comic symptoms. They're not feeding and issues with nappies! Marley is a real sicky baby.... but everything else is fine so the HV said there's no concern!

I was just about to comment on here about using oil! Marley has horrendous cradle cap, it's so bad! I've got a special scalp massage brush and some organic coconut oil... he's 3 weeks and 3 days. I should be ok to use this now?

The paediatrician recommended I use non perfume moisturiser/bath solution to act as a barrier for his rash so I've been using aveeno with no perfume in it! Only today have I seen the slightest improvement on his chest busy the spots/rash is creeping up his face now and I'm honestly struggling so much. I can't look at it without panicking and feeling horrendous. I just want it to go away :(

Lu1u · 07/06/2020 13:48

@caspianberg yes very normal whilst they are so tiny!

Have you heard of the wonder weeks? There is a book and an app, It tells you when your baby is going to make a "leap" in their mental development. The first one is around week 6 and lasts about a week, after this they are a more aware of their surroundings and whats going on around them as they can see further and more clearly. I find it really interesting, I would recommend getting the app!

May2311 · 07/06/2020 13:57

@Lu1u I was just about to mention that app! I have it and love it. Mine is going through her first "leap" now and it's really helped keep my calm as she had a grizzly few days and didn't seem herself. I've noticed the last 2 days she is more alert- loving her playmat and has start "talking" to us when we talk to her. ( I mean responding with noises and wafting her limbs haha) xx

Raindancer411 · 07/06/2020 15:23

@november90 Wren seems to be a bit colicky now but the amount of pee and poo she is producing doesnt seem to be an issue. I just wonder where she is getting it all from lol

helpasisterout · 07/06/2020 15:57

@caspianberg

Good to know not only me with peely baby will use some oil on his ankles and hands I think seems to have calmed down elsewhere!

Yes to your other point though my babe is only 10 days old he is the same just sleeps, feeds and does the toilet and when awake otherwise needs to be held quite a lot to keep him content - hopefully more alertness will come soon.

helpasisterout · 07/06/2020 15:59

I wanted to get the midwives who looked after us a gift does anyone have any inside info on what they might appreciate? I think they are getting so much food just now they may not like that but maybe I am wrong? Any info appreciated!

woollycat · 07/06/2020 20:07

Day 4 here and the baby is very calm in the morning amd afternoons but in the evenings she starts crying for a few hours and nothing settles her - even feeding. Any tips? Please tell me it's just a phase.

May2311 · 07/06/2020 22:28

@woollycat- from what people have told me most babies have a "grizzly" part of the day. Ours is always evening as we are about to sit down for tea! We have started going for a walk if she gets like that. Although tonight she started and we put her in her baby carrier I bought a few days ago- she loves it & settled right down so we were able to have a chilled evening! Hope everything else is going well! Xxxx

november90 · 08/06/2020 12:44

3 week growth spurt is proving to be very annoying!!! My very calm baby is now a very hangry one and we were up allllllll niiigggghhhhhttttt!!!! 😰 anyone else at the same point?

Rebecca612 · 08/06/2020 12:51

@november90 We had an awful night (she didn’t sleep from 12-5am) and very clingy baby at 3 weeks - she’s just over a month old now and is passed it, sleeping and feeding well, don’t worry it should pass soon!
