Hi everyone. Haven't been on in a while-just not enough hours in the day are there?!

Been having a bit of a hard time getting Millie to take the bottle, used to be fine but just recently she has refused. We were lucky last night and thought we had cracked it but apparently not.

Good luck for tomorrow PTP- you have been incredibly strong and I often think about you and Cerys.
Usually when im moaning about something small and I feel guilty because I don't have to deal with the stuff you do.

Hopey-Nice to see you again! Sorry you missed DH's Xmas do. Are your dad and stepmum okay?

Love to all-Sophus thanks for carrot tip!!

HammerHeadShark · 10/12/2007 19:26

Purple - hope everything goes brilliantly for Cerys and you tomorrow - will be sending vibes to your brave little girl. Take care

Hope the rest of you are all doing well x

MrsBumblebee · 10/12/2007 21:18

Hi everyone. Sorry, I haven't posted for ages, though I have been following everyone's news. No time for much in the way of replies, I'm afraid - Paul seems to be regressing in terms of night time sleeping, which is deeply annoying. He used to go through from 7pm until 4 or 5am pretty reliably (with a feed at 10pm), but he's now increasingly difficult to settle before his night feed. For the first time tonight I've given up and brought him downstairs. And last night he woke up at 1am for no apparent reason - refused food and took ages to get back to sleep. The only thing I can think of is that he's getting too big for his moses basket, but I really don't want to put him in the big cot until after Christmas.

I'll try and post more some time soon, but for the moment I just wanted to say very best of luck to PLP and Cerys for tomorrow - I'll be thinking of you both xx.

sophus · 10/12/2007 21:56

good luck PTP and Cerys. let us know how you get on.

mrsbb - I had same problem last week with linus who suddenly stopped sleeping through, waking 4 times a night. Turned out he was teething and it was uncomfortable for him to suck his thumb so he couldn't settle himself. It took 4 days to get him sorted with a variety of means and now he's sleeping through even better than before. But at the time I was thinking 'whats gone wrong'.

EdieMcredie · 11/12/2007 10:04

Yes Millie went through a phase of waking at 3 in the night-strange as I had been so used to her going from 10pm til 8am! Think it was her teeth like Linus.

Last night though she went from 10 til half 8 which is lovely!!

Putting her in her nursery really helped for us.

sophus · 11/12/2007 10:58

yup i'm going to move Linus after christmas as i'm not getting any sleep and he is sleeping fine - am going to wait until January though as we are away so much over the break that there will be enough disruption as it is to his sleeping routines.

kelmcmistletoe · 11/12/2007 11:52

Sophus - how old is Linus?
Arben has statred waking in the night aswell for an extra feed, i have put it down to a growth spurt, his 200mls feed at 11pm only lasted him til 2am really finding the lack of sleep hard at the moment, feel quite rough other than that tho things are going well!
PTP - will be thinking of you and Cerys tomorrow, big hugs for your little angel

Yes I certainly think Millie has slept better since being in her own room. Our monitor is great too-it's a BT one and we love it.

However it was wierd at first and we did that thing of having the parent unit to our ears every few seconds!

EdieMcredie · 11/12/2007 12:30

...Has anyone else tried Ashton and Parson's infant powders? Quite good for teething.

hannahsaunt · 11/12/2007 12:37

Haven't been on here for a very long time...ds3 still up at least twice every night so v of all you with babies sleeping through...he's definitely the hardest of the 3 so far

EdieMcredie · 11/12/2007 12:39

Hi HA-you poor thing. What times does he wake? Is he is your room? How is he fed?

MrsBumblebee · 11/12/2007 14:02

Yes, I'm sure putting Paul in his own room will help him (and me!) sleep better. All this waiting until 6 months - pah! We already put him to bed on his own for the early part of the evening (ie he's in the moses basket and we're downstairs with the monitor), so I don't think it will seem like too much of a big step. Though I am quite worried about the temperature in there on these very cold nights - last night at 4.30am it was only 14 degrees in the nursery! Sophus, my reasons for waiting until after Xmas are exactly the same as yours - I don't want to disrupt him too much.

Thanks for the teething tips. I don't know whether he could be teething or not - he's putting his hands in his mouth a lot, but it may just be that he's only just become coordinated enough to do it, and he's trying to suck on his fingers when he hasn't got his dummy. He doesn't have red cheeks or anything, which I've heard is a classic sign. By the way, for those of you whose LOs are teething, my sister swears by teething granules. I think they're chamomile based, and they really calm my niece down (even when she's not teething!).

By the way, how much are other people's LOs' eating at the moment? The reason I ask is that Paul (11+2, somewhere around 12 pounds 3) doesn't seem to me to eat that much. I give him six 5oz feeds per 24 hours, and he often leaves at least an oz at each feed. He seems to be gaining weight like a trooper, though, so I guess it doesn't matter.

And finally, silly question of the day: do you ever leave your LO alone in the car for a couple of minutes?? I was buying petrol the other day with DH, and I was wondering what I would have done if DH hadn't been there - should you wake your sleeping baby up and take him in the shop with you, or is it ok to leave him for a few minutes in the car with the door locked? Any views??

kelmcmistletoe · 11/12/2007 14:30

Mrs bumble - i had the same dilemma the other day, in the end i just left it cos i couldn't bear to wake him or leave him in the car!!! my DH said i should've just left him in the carw ith the doors locked I also am not sure whether Arben is feeding enough, he has his one bottle in the evening, between 100-200mls, and the rest of the day he just seems to snack on the boob, 5mins here and there! He is putting on weight, (15lbs 3ozs at 12 weeks) and is a healthy little boy, i just worry sometimes i guess!
We dont have the luxury of putting Arben in his own room as we only have a 1bed flat but he sleeps really well in his cot and now goes down awake at each of his sleeps and goes off to sleep himself
By the way when do they start teething?? Arben always has his hands in his mouth too but i think its cos as Mrsbumble said, he has just learnt to coordinate them to do it so.....

MrsFish · 11/12/2007 18:14

Well Ben is 10 weeks old on friday and has just upped his bottles to 6-7oz's every feed, so he is averaging about 30oz's per every 24 hour period. For his age my hv said they should be having anywhere between 24 and 32 ounces He was 13 pound 8 ounces at 8 weeks so god knows what he is now, will get him weighed on thursday. He sleeps in his cot in his own room and has done since 6 weeks and is sleeping between 8pm and 4-5am

I also leave him in the car for up to 5 mins when I pay for petrol and pick up and drop off Sam from nursery, I would probably get slated for that from some of the people on mumsnet, but I know he is perfectly safe

EdieMcredie · 11/12/2007 18:35

I leave Millie in the car when im getting petrol. Locked obviously. I can't carry car seat and certainly wouldn't take her out.

I also think 6 months for moving into room is a bit old-well, for us anyway. Millie loves her nice big cot as was getting too big for moses. Now she can stretch to her heart's content.

MrsBumbleBee-Im obsessed with the temperature!! So much so that we have a GroEgg thermometer and one on the monitor in Millie's room. We are lucky that so far the temp has gone from 17-21 degrees in there but they say 18 is perfect. However if I didn't have the thermoters to tell me I would think 18 feels too cold. One night ages ago when she was in our room the temp went down to 14 like yours!

Putting hands in mouth could be sign of teething but as others have said-may just be cos babies are finding their co-ordination skills. Millie has a bright red cheek and lots of dribble. She also makes a funny groaning noise when they are playing her up.

As for amounts of feeds-I think as long as babies are gaining weight well there is no need to worry. Haven't got a clue how much Millie takes. On the rare occasion that she doesn't refuse EBM, she will usually take about 5 oz in one go.

kinki · 11/12/2007 19:19

I leave Liam in the car for a few minutes too, eg to pay for petrol. I have been known to leave him a bit longer if ds1 (nearly 8) is with us. Today I was going to leave him in the car while I popped into the local post office to get car tax, but saw there was a queue of 3 people, so I went out and got him. So I guess about 5 mins is about my threshold.

He's also doing the hand to mouth thing too. I put it down to coordination. But having said that when ds2 was 3 mths old he bit a bit hard on my boob, so I looked in his mouth and there were 3 little teeth poking through on the bottom. He had made no fuss or anything, all his teeth have come early and he hasn't so much as blinked. I swear that child feels no pain. In fact it was when he had an accident at about 9 months that we were finaly convinced he could feel pain!

amyclaramum · 11/12/2007 20:32

I have left Eloise in the car when at the petrol station and have left the 3 girls when popping into dry cleaners/post office etc. Sometimes it is so much hassle to get everyone out and everyone back in again !! However the other afternoon I left her asleep in car in the school carpark and went to pick up dd1 - by the time I got back she was screaming her head off - felt really guilty ! Won't do that again !

Eloise is chewing her hands and dribbling so I think teething could be imminent !? Poor love has an awful cough - may take her to the docs to get her checked . Kinki - how is Liam now - did he have Whooping cough in the end ? Hope you are feeling better too ?

love to you all - xx

sophus · 11/12/2007 21:57

I leave linus in the car at the garage but only if I can see him at all time and I lock the car obv.
kelm - linus is 12+3 (weighs over 15 1/2 lbs). he wasn't waking for food though, just comfort. i'm dreading the 4 month mark when the big babies all start getting starving. linus went 7.30 - 7.00 last night and i'm still knackered - he had his jabs yesterday so I was checking him all through the night.

PTP- does the ranatadine work? she's still being really sick even with gaviscon and this carab-stuff makes her milk so thick that she chokes trying to drink it i feel so sorry for her and looking at all your lo's weights, she definitely can't afford to lose any weight. at 15 weeks she is still only 10lb 7oz and still looks like a newborn. i am aprehensive about trying yet another option that would be unlikely to make much difference. her little body has been through so much already xx

LoopyLouLisa · 12/12/2007 15:56

so so sorry plp nearly forgot that it's cerys' op today. am thinking of you xx

MrsFish · 12/12/2007 17:48

Had a text from PLP

"Cerys has now got a bottom! Its got sstitches etc at the moment. She is back on the ward recovering with lots of painkillers. We have been told we could be home by the weekend but we're back next wednesday for a general anaesthetic to check it all over which is routine xx"

dal21 · 12/12/2007 18:26
