Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsMar · 06/12/2007 21:02

Hi everyone,

Fio - thanks for that, it's nice to know they're there, I might drop my visits down to every three weeks or so.

sohphus - ouch! That sounds painful!

sorry to hear you're still feeling rough and had such a bad night mrsf. I hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. I'm shattered too cos Luca's growth spurt continues apace!

Talking of growth spurts, I'm quite of your lovely big babies... i adore my luca but he's still got some catching up to do. He's 12 weeks old now and he weighs 12lb. He's getting there, he's gone from the 2nd centile to almost the 25th. Still I did get quite a bit of use out his newborn clothes

I'm off to nurse my stinking cold... I hope everyone else is well

Take care
xx

MrsMar · 06/12/2007 21:03

Gosh, reading that back it makes me sound like I'd prefer Luca if he was bigger... not what I meant at all, I love him to bits just as he is. Small and perfect

LoopyLouLisa · 06/12/2007 22:30

PTP katie is vomiting LOTS with the reflux and all i seem to be doing these days is mopping up sick and doing enormous amounts of washing. thank god for tumble driers! this is gonna sound really bad but sometimes i just find myself taking an extra long time in the loo just to have a few more minutes peace. i thought we had it not quite under control but reasonably well managed with sma staydown/gaviscon/dr brown's bottles etc, iyswim. the last week or so though has been worse than ever. she's constantly crying from hunger, feeding then bringing it up again. today they've prescribed carobel (sp?) in addition but chemist wont have it until tomorrow. everything is crossed that this will work. sorry to post and run but while she's ok i have to decide between food or a shower or sleep before she wakes again. somebody tell me it's gonna get better soon xx

LoopyLouLisa · 06/12/2007 22:34

PS PTP, i almost forgot - katie was prescribed one sachet of gaviscon to 4oz milk but this was also when she was below the 10lb mark. gp said today to make 8oz bottles with 2 sachets of gaviscon (she normally takes 5-6 per feed) as it was better to waste some formula than give her milk that didn't have enough gaviscon in it. but then her formula is prescribed xx

PurpleTinselPrincess · 06/12/2007 23:32

LLL, yes we're now putting in two sachets of gaviscon and I think its helping but its so hard to tell isn't it! We've got hardwood flooring so I tend to wind her facing away from me so if she does erupt its just the floor that gets it. Also, I put muslins everywhere but the one time I forget, I get covered lol! It really does consume the day doesn't it! Cerys sometimes only goes 2 hours inbetween feeds when its bad because it hurts to have too much milk but she's so hungry... It's heartbreaking when she is desperately trying to drink her milk but it obviously hurts going down . I've never heard of carobel but I hope it works for Katie. I'm wandering if the ranitidine is doing any good here tbh. We try to keep her upright for as long as possible after a feed too. I guess its just like heartburn really - I remember when I was pg that it hurt more when I was hungry and Cerys certainly screams in pain when she's hungry atm so that must be it.

I don't blame you trying to get more time to yourself in the loo, it doesn't sound bad at all! Do you have any magazines or books in there that you can read? I still have to negotiate time for a shower and I feel minging some days if I don't get a chance.

PurpleTinselPrincess · 06/12/2007 23:34

Ooooh, whats sma staydown then? I might ask about that tomorrow as we're popping into the surgery to have her wound/stitch looked at. Thing is, she isn't being as sick lately but I don't know if thats just that she's got silent reflux or if its getting better - it certainly doesn't feel like its getting better atm!

LoopyLouLisa · 06/12/2007 23:53

SMA staydown is a formula especially for babies with reflux. you can buy it from boots at about £7.50 per tin however it is available on prescription too. check out smanutrition.co.uk/com (?) it tells you all about it there. most easy-digest milks are thickened but sma staydown isn't making it ok to add the gaviscon. i'd never heard of carobel eother but def ask your gp/hv about it. i will update you regarding it's effetiveness. hard floors are a life-saver but i'm just fed up of packing a week's worth of clothes for baby (and myself!) for every little trip out xx

honey2theb · 07/12/2007 12:56

heya girls. i posted here a few weeks back but havent had a chance to get back on again!
my dd is 13 weeks on monday. think i remember a few of you from the ante natal thread. HELLOO!!

sophus · 07/12/2007 17:33

Top teething tip - a carrot from the fridge for them to suck on. Linus won't use a teething ring, think his mouth is just too small. The carrot (or a stick of celery) holds the cold for longer than a teething ring. The HV recommended it and Linus took to it and it really soothed him. He was back to sleeping for 10 hours last night.
I took him swimming today - it was ace. He loved it. So i am hoping we'll both sleep well after such an exciting day out.
have fab weekends all

Hi all. SO SO SO SO SORRY for not being a regular. I'm steadily getting better, just a bit scary how long it's taking, but I understand what's happening and that that old cliche is a very accurate one in that time is a great healer. On a much much more positive side, it occurred to me yesterday that I was suffering from cheek ache because Niamh makes me smile so much. She is just gorgeous.

I will read back properly, have missed so much. Kinki, sorry love to hear that Ryan is poorly, that's not fair, poor little love. Sending you big strong hugs my friend.

Dal, thank you as always for checking in, it's IMMENSELY appreciated, you're a star.

PLP, how are you doing? I think about you guys frequently x x x

Has there been any news from Holly? I hope she's ok.

Has anyone been hit by this awful virus going around? Last week there were a third of the children off school sick. Never known anything like it - scary.

I'm off to Tesco (on my own!!) for a wine and ready meal run - we were meant to be going to DH's works Christmas party tonight, hotel room booked and everything, but my poor Dad and stepmum who were coming to babysit are sick . Will fill you in another time on DH's progress, but will just say I need to give DH more opportunities to handle Niamh, I'm a bit nervous.

Happy Friday x x x

Chattyhan · 07/12/2007 20:21

Hello everyone - i'm pleased to report that alex has put on some weight! He did have me worried for a minute with no gain for 2 weeks but this week he gained 5 oz making him 11lb 11oz at nearly 12 weeks (simular to luca Mrs Mar)

Hi Hopey, glad to hear you're doing better

Sophus, great teething tip! and you've reminded me i must do the swimming thing!

Honey2theb - i remember you! Hows things?

PLP - Hi! Sorry i haven't been in touch - things a bit crazy what with ds1's 3rd birthday on tues and xmas to contend with! Glad to head about DH support worker. I cant believe cerys weight shes catching up with alex fast!
Just in case i don't get round to speaking before the op i'll be thinking of you and i hope it goes well xx

LLL - ds1 suffered with reflux until he was about 4 months. I know it is consuming your life now but when i look back it seems like such a small part of his babyhood! Hope things improve soon

Hi to everyone else xx

honey2theb · 07/12/2007 22:35

kinki · 08/12/2007 10:21

Morning everyone. Glad to hear about all the thriving babies. I feel for you all with refluxy babies. Ds1 puked for England. You wonder how much could possibly come out of a tiny person don't you. I promise you all that in time this phase will just be distant memory - they do grow out of it eventually. And you may even see the funny side of it all. Oh how I chuckle with my brother-in-law about the time ds1 threw up over his one day old (it was on boxing day) very expensive Armani angorra jumper. It was ruined. And how my best freind and I giggle about the time we went for 'afternoon tea' in a very posh tea room and ds1 deposited his load all over the table. My freind kindly cleared up a lot of it by scooping it up with one of their lovely teacups. The waitresses were not amused. Everyone has a story to tell of him being sick over them, but as I say, it soon becomes a memory and eventually even becomes funny.

Liam seems to doing ok. His cough is nearly gone and his feeding has really picked up. We've had some results from the hospital and they are ok, but we've not had the whooping cough one back yet. Tbh, I'd be very surprised if he's had whooping cough, I think its more likely he's had one of my nasty bugs. At risk of sounding desperately boring and hypercondriac-like, I had yet another temperature spike on thursday. It reached 40deg. The day before I finished 2 weeks of abs. And now I'm back on them again.

PTP, great about your win, that's brilliant just before Christmas. It's exactly how I felt when my backdated maternity allowance came in. We went out and bought a wii for chrimbo too! I hope it lives up to the hype. Good luck to Cerys for the op next week. Is this were she gets a new bottom and no more bag? I hope it all goes to plan for her and her recovery is quick and comfortable. I'm glad dh is getting lots of support. The closer we get to christmas, the more stressed out my dh is getting. Are you getting enough support? You have so much on your plate, yet you sound so grounded and strong.

Hopey, so glad to hear from you. What a shame you missed the work's do. Bet you could have done with a night out. I look forward (sadly) to my trips to tesco on my own. I wander around aimlessly just enjoying being on my own. Only time I can go on my own is usually about 10pm so no where else is open - shame. I have been known to go to the local motorway services late at night for a cuppa and a bit of peace, quiet and solitude!

MrsM, I think Liam is about 12lbs too - at the hospital they weighed him (with clothes and full nappy) and he was 5.4kgs, that's round about 12lbs I think. And he's nearly 15 weeks. All my babies have been quite dinky. Ds1 suddenly shot up to one of the tallest in his year when he was 5, and ds2 seems to be shooting up now at nearly 3. They're born short like me but looks like they will end up tall like dh.

Right I'm off to decorate our tree while dh and ds1 are football. They tried last night and nearly came to blows, so its safer all round if I just do it while they are out.

dal21 · 09/12/2007 06:59

dal21 · 09/12/2007 07:00

Right my update. One question and one dilemna. Responses to both will be gratefully received!

Ryan is doing well - he had his second set of jabs on Friday and seems ok (although been a demon child since 4am this morning!)
The GP told me about another jab that has hust been bought out and that she has just started to offer parents - the Rotavirus injection. Needs to be given before bub is 6 months old and is 2 oral doses. Apparently rotavirus is the main cause of gastroenteritis in children - I had never heard of it but is being looked into as being given as part of routine jabs to babies along with the others. I reckon I may have Ryan have it - has anyone else come across it?

Asides from that - my lovely mum slipped on the grass in this recent horrendous weather and broke her wrist. She was taken to hospital and I was up visiting her - but she didnt let them call me from there as she didnt want me dragging ryan to the hospital bless her. I have bought her back to London with me to look after her. I know a break isnt a big deal but it is really tough seeing my mum in pain - absolutely hate it. Plus now I have a real dilemna.
DH and I have Christmas with his family planned for a few weeks time - we have rented out a huge house and all of us are piling there. Mum is on her own over Christmas as my brother is in spain - which I was fine with before since she is such an independant person and would have kept herself busy. Now I absolutely hate the thought of her being on her own with a broken wrist and - it is really upsetting me. DH has suggested that she come to Scotland with us - but I know if we suggest it, she won't - doesnt want to intrude. If we leave her on her own though, I will have a horrid Christmas and will be constantly thinking of her. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to persuade her to come (I suppose drugging her tea and taking her up with us is a big no no??)

OP posts:
kinki · 09/12/2007 08:07

Could you go along the lines of how incredibly helpful and invaluable she has been to you over the last few weeks, and as Christmas gets nearer you are beginning to worry how you are going to cope all that way from home. You want to do your fair share of cooking etc, but you feel happiest when Ryan is with left with her, because he is most settled with her. Are there other children going, if so, say to mum that you are a little worried Ryan will get overlooked with all the comotion and excitement that comes with children at chrismas, and you know that if she was there that wouldn't happen. Alternatively, say that you have given it some thought and that since you have become a mum yourself, you have realised that the one person you would really like to share this holiday season with (especially as it is Ryan's first) is your mum. It sounds lovely if she could come - just perfect for little Ryan's first Christmas.

MrsFish · 09/12/2007 16:43

Great suggestions kinki

Chattyhan · 09/12/2007 17:01

Well kinki just said all my suggestions and more dal so hope you get it sorted! Haven't heard of this new vaccine so can't really comment but alex is due to have second jabs this week so i'll let you know!

honey2theb - congratulations on the birth of lily and you sound like you're doing well!

I've had ds1's 3rd birthday party today and for my first party it went very well. It was at a soft play area so i didn't have to do anything - wouldn't have been an option cost wise but we shared the party so it only cost me £32 . They all had a fab time and alex slept through most of it meeting i could mingle . It's his actual birthday on tues so i must get the pressies out of the loft to wrap but no real plans - may go into London on the train and take him to the science museum? or Hamleys? Then after tues i'll be able to start on christmas

dal21 · 09/12/2007 18:37

thanks kink for the great suggestions. I have gently suggested it and got an outright refusal. DH has suggested to me that his mum invites her directly, therefore the invite is not from us. Not holding out much hope but I used her refusal today to at least get her to stay with us for the next 2 weeks - so I got somewhere!

Chatty - Hamleys in the run up to Christmas?? You're brave! But the party today sounds as though it was fab.

MrsF - how are you feeling? are you all better?

Re. the rotavirus jab - gastroenteritis seems to be pretty nasty - so Ryan will have that one too! cannot wait for these jabs to be out the way - he always seems out of sorts for a few days after them bless him.

Hello all! Love the emoticons!

Hopey, how lovely to see you! What are you doing apologising to us for you silly billy!? You know we all care about you no matter how much you post and we all think of you often. If you fancy texting me, my number is on the list that was sent around (I would text you but I know you've got a new number recently). Sorry you missed the Christmas do . My friend was coming around tomorrow but her kids have got that virus so we're not risking it so close to Cerys's op Looking forward to hearing more about how things are when you're ready. I watched Superman Returns the other night and thought of you xx

chatty - so pleased the party went well . Great news on Alex putting on weight, thats great! Sorry I didn't text back that day but my parents went to New York so we swapped phones and I couldn't get on with her phone even though my sim was in it . I'm sure I'll text you while we're in hospital xx

LLL, thanks for the info on SMA staydown, I'll ask about it this week. We got a repeat prescription of ranitidine but it got knocked over so I'm going to have to beg the pharmacist to give us another bottle - anybody experienced this? Getting another prescription is a nightmare!

honey - hiya, glad to see you back!

sophus - can't wait to take Cerys swimming as she really loves her baths and we think she is a water baby. Thanks for the tip about carrots, will store that one for the near future (Cerys has been dribbling and showing signs of teething so it won't be long! ).

kinki - sorry to hear your temperature went up so high, hope you're feeling better now? Glad to hear Liam's cough is easing off. Thanks for asking about the operation: this one is a reconstructive one that will build her anus/hole then the colostomy will be reversed in 6-8 weeks time so we've got the bag for a while longer but then she'll hopefully be fully operational as such . The fun part will be dilating the hole - from what I understand it will be a few times a day to start with, then it will slowly go down to less often but I think we'll be doing it on a longterm basis .

dal - sorry to hear about your mum, hope you manage to get her to spend Christmas with you somehow xx

Well, Cerys didn't end up having her jabs on Thursday because the nurse was off sick so she's over three months old and she still hasn't had her first set yet !!! She has been really happy the past couple of days so I think the gaviscon is helping. I felt it was time to start training her to get herself to sleep in the daytime rather than rocking her (learnt the hard way with DS, cracked it with DD1 at about this age); and I've noticed she likes cuddling a muslin when she's getting to sleep. Yesterday morning she cried for about 5 mins then went to sleep, this morning she hardly cried at all and this evening she got herself to sleep within a few moments clutching onto her muslin (purple I might add lol!). So, I think we've cracked it with her but its early days yet so I won't get too cocky just yet .

I'm frantically trying to get organised for leaving on Tuesday morning which is proving to be hard considering DH is completely out of action again. Also, my parents have said they will buy us sky plus for Christmas if we decorate the hallway so the pressure is on!! . Normally one of my parents would have been with me for the actual operation/going down etc but its DD1's school christmas thing so I'd rather she had the support there so please be thinking of me all alone on Wednesday morning! [scared, shaking in boots emoticon]

Anyway, better dash, sorry about the mammoth post! I'll try to pop in again before we go but if I don't manage it, love to all! xoxoxox

PLP xxxxxxx

emj23 · 09/12/2007 20:13

Hello all, hope you are all well and your babies are healthy and happy. We're doing well but never seem to have enough time to read everyone's posts, so sorry about that. Lily was weighed a week ago and was 10lb 10, so that's all good and right in the middle of the graph. I haven't had a letter about her first lot of injections yet and she turned eight weeks yesterday, so I expect that'll turn up soon. She started smiling at us properly a couple of weeks ago which is just fabulous, she has the cutest beaming smile I've ever seen (well, since DS anyway). If I don't manage to post again before it, I hope you all have a merry Christmas

honey2theb · 09/12/2007 20:25

ive put some piccies of Lily on my profile if anyone wants a nosey!!

MrsFish · 09/12/2007 21:17

Great pics honey, but how on earth do you manage with so many dogs and a child? Oh and put your tongue away, its not attractive

Sorry I've not got chance to catch up with everyone, I'm trying to write my xmas cards, there are so many I'm giving up the will to live already [ Put the tree up today it looks lovely

Dal - I am much better thankyou, but DH is still not too well, but luckily the boys are ok.

PTP - will be thinking of you on wednesday, good luck

PurpleTinselPrincess · 09/12/2007 22:18

Hello emj, honey and MrsFish! Love the pics honey

I've added pictures of our purple Christmas tree to my profile but noticed that they are the only pics there. I think its because I've changed my name as the PLP pics are still there when I click on that name...(?)

MrsFish · 10/12/2007 08:22

There are no pics on your profile at the moment
