Thanks daisy, I've got one on there from earlier. I'm not sure if it constitutes a nursing strike, I assumed that was when they wouldn't even try and latch on, but I will have a look. I had a look in the LLL book at Bfing group but couldn't find much, but then I was just looking at going off one breast not two. I more gutted that DH won't be able to do the night and morning feeds so I'm going to spend another day knackered. Farking lansinoh freezer bag leaking!

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/09/2007 20:30

bumper do you have any cartons of formula in? or could DH nip out and get one? then you can give yourself a bit of a rest, and once won't hurt her. You sound like you need a break.

and Not much help to you now I know but I got some of those Avent storage tubs with the adaptor for the Avent pump. They are presterilised and have a screw top lid and stack quite nicely. If you use Avent bottles they can screw onto a teat via the adaptor as well. They can be re-sterilised as well for re-use.

Another tip is to stack your bags of EBM in a tupperware tub to keep them upright.

....but like I said, not much use to you now

derlor · 18/09/2007 20:33

bumper....you've got mail x
i'm going to have to look for another job as things where i currently work are in a terrible state due to a bully of a boss. 3 of my HV colleuges are off with stress cause of her. I would give up nursing altogether if i could only think of something else to do, it's just such a thankless job.
any suggestions for a career change?

Jamantha · 18/09/2007 20:34

jbm - I did a baby massage class with DD, and a lot of the class knew each other from the NCT. I did feel rather left out, and don't think I'll be seeing any of them again now it's finished. The place where people have been most friendly is the Home Start group we go to. It's a group designed for mums who are finding it a bit tough, so they all appreciate the need for friends and support and are therefore all really nice.

justbeme · 18/09/2007 20:37

Do you have a Homestart "helper" then Jamantha?

derlor · 18/09/2007 20:39

jbm when i plucked up the courage to go to my local BF group it was very off puting, only 2 people talked to me and that was only because i sat between them. (chewed on my cheeks whilst there so that i didn't cry) it was horribly cleeky and i never went back. Don't let it put you off though one of my local toddlers groups is lovely, but it is sometimes a bit of trial and error to find somewhere nice.
Cleeky mums can be so nasty, without even realising it!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/09/2007 20:41

Derlor...you should contact MNHQ and ask if they need an in-house HV . You give much better advice than many RL HVs...well obviously you are a real life HV, but you know what I mean....

Changing the subject quickly, is it just me or is it farking cold today? I'm sitting wrapped in a fleece with a long sleeve t shirt on and wooly socks!

Jamantha · 18/09/2007 20:42

No helper as such, but you have to be invited to go (my HV recommended that I should be invited) and one of the Home Start workers came and saw me at home before I went so that I knew someone's face when I got there. There's a couple of women there who help watch the children and make tea for the mums, and we all sit about chatting while the children play.

Jamantha · 18/09/2007 20:44

Not just you daisy. I had to put socks on this afternoon as my feet were freezing, and DH has just gone got an extra top. Last night I had my warm PJs on (have had to start wearing PJs routinely as is too cold to get up and wander through to DD's room and feed her in the night in the nude) and I was still chilly under the duvet.

derlor · 18/09/2007 20:50

ooooh i had tights and boots and gloves on today.
Daisy for all you know i could be a 20 stone hairy road sweeper who just pretends to be a HV!!!! (remember none of you lot have actually met me )

bumperlicious · 18/09/2007 20:54

Thanks for the email derlor, I've replied

JBM the first time I went to bumps and babies I walked in and nearly walked back out again. It's so hard, you just have to suck it up and do it for the greater good. These things just take time.

I'm freezing here too, looking forward to my new flat with central heating

bumperlicious · 18/09/2007 20:55

What about counselling derlor? You always give fab advice!

andiem · 18/09/2007 21:00

ooh derlor I am in the same boat (not bullying but fed up big time) have been teaching for 7 years now aagh where did the time go? and to be frank I will be going back to the same old cr*p

I was head of dept but they have reorganised since I went on mat leave and I have a new boss. She is not a children's nurse so I am a bit unclear about thow she is going to provide my old team with professional leadership she is a midwife I am seriously thinking of jacking it all in and retraining to do something or being a sahm for a bit am going into work tomorrow to see my students who are graduating so will see what the goss is

andiem · 18/09/2007 21:01

and I was feeezing today had my warm coat on and am thinking of putting the heating on but I am a soft southerner

Jamantha · 18/09/2007 21:06

It's only just struck me that heating etc will be on more when I'm at home. Must try to use jumpers etc rather than just popping the heating on all the time. But think that come Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb it'll be inevitable.

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/09/2007 21:06

I'm so not looking forward to feeding DD first thing in the morning in winter....her mitts are already freezing in the morning...makes me jump I can tell you. Do you think it's OK to put your DCs to bed with gloves on?

Derlor, what a fantastic image that is!

I've had a text from Seansgirl . She says Hi and she'll be back with us soon, but has been a bit stressed and glum as her bile acid levels are still raised.

I hope things sort themselves out soon for her.

bumperlicious · 18/09/2007 21:10

daisy I was wondering the same thing re: gloves. Put them on DD last night but she likes to suck her fingers? This may seem PFB but do you think they should wear night caps as well?

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/09/2007 21:14

I've been to 2 different baby cafes and haven't been back to either. Mainly cos one was shut over the hols and I haven't been free for whatever reason, but one of the ladies did e-mail me with details of an NCT coffee afternoon. The other one is big and busy and it would have been mayhem with DS there too. I Will get motivated soon. There os a bumps and babes at the surestart centre as well as other events and we are starting a six week n=baby massage course on Friday.

Derlor....wasn't ignoring your question....fleece wraps are supposed to let the skin breathe as there is no waterproof layer. They work by evaporation. I'm just concerned that the wee moisture will evaporate out of the nappy and pool underneath her and she'll be lying in a soggy puddle in the morning.

Another text from SG....her DS is 17lbs as well at 14 weeks ....what are you lot feeding your sons????

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/09/2007 21:16

definately no on the night caps...babies sweat through their heads and if ttheir heads are covered they can overheat......is that right Derlor?

provided the back of their neck is at a comfortable temperature then they are too.

derlor · 18/09/2007 21:16

Daisy, don't they have 20 stone road sweepers wearing tights boots and gloves where you come from?!?!?!?!?!

Bumper, i did actually do half of a counselling diploma many moons ago but found it to be too stressful ( was suffering from PND at the time though) but i may just finish that course you know..... > (i've mailed you back)

andiem · 18/09/2007 21:17

gloves maybe hats no as they lose heat through their heads and they would find it hard to regulate their temperature and might get too hot but my mum always says in told you so stupid modern mother voice 'you were brought up in a house with no central heating and it didn't do you any harm' me I roll my eyes at her and mumble off
agree re the cold hands on boobies in the morning though can be shocking

bumperlicious · 18/09/2007 21:17

Stupid question but what are surestart and homestart? Are they something that I should know about. I think the centre where I go to bf clinic is a surestart centre but don't know what it means.

derlor · 18/09/2007 21:21

so there own sweat and pee clears up the dry skin???
Yes, correct re neck temp thing and hats, also feel their chest for hot/cold temp too.
FLIP 17lbs?? my DD is 12lbs 6oz (as of monday)

bumperlicious · 18/09/2007 21:25

Thanks derlor, you're legend!

Oooh, cold hands on boobs

andiem · 18/09/2007 21:26
