Thanks Talullah, I'll look into it a bit further.

On a completely different note when does handedness show itself? DD sucks her left hand a lot, and her dad is left handed.

faylisa · 07/09/2007 11:57

Just one other thought - make sure that you would still be entitled to paid maternity leave when you come back (if you might want another baby) as rules in diff countries vary..... I think it depends on you having paid National Insurance contributions for a certain amount of time, which you might not be doing if you go away. Maybe you should speak to your HR dept about it.

foxybrown · 07/09/2007 12:00

they don't get paid mat leave in oz, do they?

but if you are employed by uk co you'd get it, wouldn't you?

foxybrown · 07/09/2007 12:02

facebook is driving me nuts. its shite!

daisyandbabybootoo · 07/09/2007 12:13

aaaaaages yet bumper. DS was pretty ambidextrous as a baby, and only started showing a preference at about 2 years. We were pretty sure he would be left handed as he used to do more with the left than right, but no....definately right-handed now.

I would still be employed by the UK so would keep all my rights. The only thing I was curious about is health care, whether my work pay for private health care. It's very exciting, but a slim chance that I will get it as there is not much preparation I can do for the interview from home.

Jamantha · 07/09/2007 12:28

DD just licked my finger which had a drop of melon juice on it - and pulled a "urghh" face!

daisyandbabybootoo · 07/09/2007 12:32

that's odd jamantha, as BM is supposed to taste like melon juice

DS gave DD a lick of his lollypop at the weekend . She liked it, LOL.

OP posts:
Jamantha · 07/09/2007 12:33

maybe bm doesn't taste like 3 days over-ripe melon though?

bumperlicious · 07/09/2007 12:40

With the amount of crumbs that I drop on DD I'm surprised she hasn't had a taste of something, like flapjack or chocolate cake!

My boobs were really itchy the other day and when I took my bra off I realised it was because I had bits of flap jack in it!

trendaverter · 07/09/2007 12:40

just got back from swimming with DS! He liked it but I think I will save dunking for next time.
He did NOT, however, like getting dry and getting clothes on again afterwards.

loonylovegood · 07/09/2007 12:44

ROFL! I do that bumper! My cleavage is so vast that I can lose whole meals down there! I lost a dummy a few weeks ago, lo and behold, it's in my bra! I didn't even notice!

The oz thing sounds pretty cool bumper! I have to say though, from people I know that have been there, Canberra is a bit of nothing. There is very little there except for embassies and official buildings!

loonylovegood · 07/09/2007 12:44

Glad he liked it TA!

bumperlicious · 07/09/2007 12:53

Sound cool TA, are you feeling in a better mood?

Holly is your travel cot still up for grabs?

daisyandbabybootoo · 07/09/2007 12:55

Holly...PMSL

I drop bits of the chocolate off magnums down mine and find a gooey sticky mess when I take my bra off!

bumperlicious · 07/09/2007 12:56

Btw, sorry I'm being crap at keeping up with scrab, I will get back into it!

bumperlicious · 07/09/2007 12:59

Ok, I'm off to watch how to look good naked on my bt vision and have another piece of cake (might as well while I have an overactive thyroid munching up all my calories!)

faylisa · 07/09/2007 13:11

Agggghhhhhhhhhhh my two are driving me mad today - topped off by DD emptying a bowl of fruit salad in juice all over herself at lunch because he didn't want any more and I was too slow in taking it away! Is it too early for a G&T?!

trendaverter · 07/09/2007 13:21

Hi Bumper,
Yes am a bit more cheerful! Not idea why I was low. Ah well.

IMO you should take the overseas job if it's offered. It will be hard for your Mum, but it's not forever and you might spend the rest of your life wondering "what if...?" if you don't...which I think is worse!

Canberra ain't all that, but it would be an adventure either way. No idea about Canada but I'd love to find out! I'd do it. In fact, we are trying to get into the US ourselves!
Thought about going back to Oz (as we talked about) but talked to DH about it and no, we don't want to go back.

bumperlicious · 07/09/2007 14:08

No faylisa, not too early at all! There was a song they used to play on radio two which went along the lines of pour me a long drink etc. "it's only half past ten but I don't care - it's five o'clock somewhere!"

bumperlicious · 07/09/2007 14:10

Glad you are feeling better TA - is it PMT?

I wonder if I'll get my periods back soon. I had really excruciating period or ovulating pains while I was shopping the other day.

sputnik · 07/09/2007 14:13

Hi everyone.
just realised baby Sputnik is 12 weeks today, wow!
It's funny, when I was pg I was saying I'd rather be handed a 2 year old than deal with a small baby. i've completely changed my mind, I'd forgotten how gorgeous small babies are, I'm loving it! Not sure if it's cos he's an easier baby than DD, or perhaps because I'm concious that he will definatly be my last. Or maybe just because I know what to expect and it's an easier adjustment. Anyway, enough soppiness.

Bumper i think you're right that if you're going to do something like that now is the time. Don't worry about your mother (bloody hell she is only 7 years older than me). 2 or 3 years is not actually that long.
My parents lived in Canberra for a few months, it was pleasant enough but even they thought it was a bit dull, and they are not exactly party animals.

Right, off to power-tidy my house!

riabutterflew · 07/09/2007 14:15

no helpful advice bumper,, just wishing you luck. both my sisters moved abroad (oz, and the other one has lived everywhere, currently kuwait). the first flight my parents had was to oz. we had a wedding in nz, and babies in both, dn was also 1 yr when they moved. i don't think anyone has suffered. probably made my parents more adventurous if anything.

riabutterflew · 07/09/2007 14:17

don't think they are planning a trip to kuwait though!

like the sound of that song...

riabutterflew · 07/09/2007 14:25

HELP ME!

I am living in a house filled with people who are odder than me!

DH has spent the last two days re-organising our tv cabinet and has catalogued all the VHS tapes and DVDs in alphabetical order, complete with list!

And, DS2 has brought home the pips from his satsuma in his snack box.

oh for the days of tumble drier fluff!
