DS2 will be alright then!

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/09/2007 21:11

I agree re the sterility of the world today. FWIW I haven't sterilised anything ofr DD, and her dummies get washed once in a blue moon.

Did the same with DD and he's generally healthy. A friend sterilised everything till her duaghter was 14 months (even the bowls she ate out of FFS....she always had a sore throat, sniffle, tummy bug, earache etc!My Dad used to always say (and I'm sure he got his statistic from somewhere )...you eat a tonne of shite in your life, another wee bit won't hurt you!

riabutterflew · 06/09/2007 21:13

i am a bit dim. i had never linked asthma & eczema to diet.
i get stress eczema and have never considered the cause od asthma, i thought i was just something you "got".

serves me right really!

can't see giving worms as a cure catching on somehow

Jamantha · 06/09/2007 21:16

Damn! We have all sorts of weird facts and stats at work, and one of them is the amount of dirt the average person eats per year. If only I could remember it now!

I can remember that two thirds of Irish milk goes into making Baileys though, and that when the fisherman at sea throws the fish guts etc overboard back into the sea and the gulls swoop down to grab them before they hit the water, they only miss on less than half a percent of the time.

riabutterflew · 06/09/2007 21:16

my DM has always had an obsession with worms. i bet she would argue with the expert!

foxybrown · 06/09/2007 21:16

your dad eaten my cooking Daisy?

faylisa · 06/09/2007 21:16

I know I gave Ds baby rice but I think I'll draw the line at giving him worms

Thanks for all the positive words, I feel better about it. I have always said that in a lot of ways the parents know bestr because we know our own babies - maybe I should take my own advice.

riabutterflew · 06/09/2007 21:18

sounds like you have a very interesting job jamantha. will you be on my pub quiz team (in 20 years when i next go to the pub of course!)

Jamantha · 06/09/2007 21:20

It may sound interesting, and sometimes it is, but like a lot of jobs there's a lot of dull stuff too.

riabutterflew · 06/09/2007 21:22

bollocks ds2 up again. will have to go.

...keep away from the chocolate...

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/09/2007 21:25

LOL Jamantha, what do you do exactly? I'm intrigued as to why you would have access to such interesting facts...i thought you worked for the NHS????

Foxy, I'm sure your cooking is just lurvely

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/09/2007 21:26

I can't believe I went to the shop earlier for some fresh rolls (oh the joys of packed lunches...I'm determned not to have an oh shit i forgot to get something for the lunch box in the first week, lol) and can't believe that I forgot to buy chocolate

Jamantha · 06/09/2007 21:30

I work for the Health Protection Agency, which just thinks it is the NHS.

To be fair, a lot of it is NHS type stuff, but my section used to be the National Radiological Protection Board until we merged into the HPA. My department looks at the effects of radioactive material in the environment on human health. So we have to know about how much stuff people eat, how long they typically spend near rivers, on beaches, how long between an animal being slaughtered and eaten, how much air people breathe, how much water a cow drinks and many, many other facts.

foxybrown · 06/09/2007 21:34

You should devise the pub quiz! How much water DOES a cow drink?

Here's my stoopid thing for the day:

After lunch I thought I'd cook tea, so could take kids for a run around, come home, dinner ready la la la.

Prepared veg, peeled, chopped, took them over to the stove where pan of water is waiting and

threw them in the bin.

Jamantha · 06/09/2007 21:39

Can't remember I'm afraid foxy

Jamantha · 06/09/2007 21:40

Anyway a busy day has taken its toll, and I'm off to bed. After all it is ten minutes after my bedtime

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/09/2007 21:42

they must drink loads foxy to produce sloppy wet piles of shit like that

sounds interesting Jamantha...or is the amount of radiation we are exposed to actually quite scary??

sputnik · 06/09/2007 21:44

re allergies and immune systems.... I read somewhere that kids who grow up with animals around (ie bringing in dirt etc) were less likely to get allergies, as were kids who attended nursery as they were more often in contact with poo.

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/09/2007 21:57

DD will be OK then Sputnik. DS is forever offering her a finger to suck on (just like I do), and he has very dubious personal hygiene

derlor · 06/09/2007 22:02

bloody hell there's about 4 squillion posts to catch up on......oh and looks like some exciting stuff re asthma and allergies, MY FAVOURITE TOPIC!!!! (i worked as an asthma/allergy training nurse for 4 years) off to start skim reading........

TALLULAHBELLE · 06/09/2007 22:04

Ah - just caught up with today's chat & its time for bed. Agree about allergies/ immunity thing tho. I have always been really healthy - until got pg- & I was a right grubber as a child, had worms too!

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/09/2007 22:14
