Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

Mines on his 3rd outfit too
He's peeing like a firehose this morning

Fivebyfive2 · 29/01/2020 11:21

Does anyone else's baby look super happy after spitting up?! 😂

It's been feed, poo, nappy, spit up, new outfit and repeat all morning. Definitely getting him in the pram for a change of scenery in a bit!

forevercurious · 29/01/2020 12:52

Hey everyone, we’ve had a rough start to the day with very little sleep last night. His sleep is actually getting worse not better as he’s getting older! He’s also had his 8 week jabs this morning :( he’s very sleepy, but everytime I put him down he wakes up and screams!

@Fivebyfive2 breastfeeding in public definitely gets easier! I still can’t say I enjoy it or feel particularly comfortable doing so but needs must and it is getting easier each time (I’ve fed in a fair few different places now)

Comps83 · 29/01/2020 21:04

He soaked through at least 5 babygros today. I've never known anything like it.

Fivebyfive2 · 30/01/2020 04:36

@Comps83, probably sounds daft, but do the nappies fit OK? Which ones are you using? Might be worth experimenting with different ones if you can? We used pampers at first and got a few leaks. We put that down to us not doing it properly though, as it was all so new. Then we tried asda own ones... Omg they leaked all the time! So now we use pampers premium protection in a different size, at least for now as they seem to work best for him at the moment.

Comps83 · 30/01/2020 07:20

We've been using Aldi nappies since he was born and they seem pretty good. Seem to still fit but I think it's the amount he's been peeing .
So much for our plan to use re usable nappies. That totally went out the window

forevercurious · 30/01/2020 07:39

@Comps83 we had this, we went up a size and it stopped the leakage so he’s now been in size 2 nappies since around 2 weeks old. We use Lidl and ALDI nappies and they are great for us - plus they are cheap!

Hello everyone,

I briefly posted a couple of weeks ago then forgot all about this group, but I'd love to rejoin if possible Smile I have a baby girl who is one month old tomorrow. Also two older children.

We're having a bit of a rough time with congestion at the moment, are any other babies? She is fine during the week as she is mostly upright being cuddled (or in the carrier - her absolute favourite place!) but overnight is hard as she's so blocked up and struggles lying flat & feeding. I've got a humidifier in the room, have got a sucker thing for her nose, saline spray, breast milk up her nose.. all sorts. It's been a week now Sad

Aside from that she's great.. as long as she's fed and spends most of her time in the carrier, bless her!

Look forward to chatting with you all

Carly x

Fivebyfive2 · 30/01/2020 11:57

@car1sberg, Joe had a blocked nose last week, he seems to be over the worst of it. Our gp didn't give us anything, just said to keep him warm and go back if he wasn't feeding!

We're giving him infacol for trapped wind, I think it's working as he seems to be burping and farting more, but he still gets uncomfortable especially at night lying on his back ☹️ Our baby massage class doesn't start until next month, so I've been looking on YouTube and having a go myself ; I think he likes some of it, but will probably go to the class and realise I've been doing it all wrong!

So... Tomorrow night, dh and I are planning on going to a restaurant down the road for a meal and mum and dad will come to watch Joe. It's the first time leaving him, but I feel he'll be OK. My mum is always round so he's used to her! I'm half looking forward to it and half dreading it /feeling guilty for looking forward to it, if that makes sense?! Daft probably, we won't even be gone for long! I must say, will be nice to eat a meal with 2 hands though!

Saturday and Sun we're taking him to meet our respective nans... Predict lots of cooing 😂

What's everyone's weekend plans? Xx

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 30/01/2020 20:04

What time do you take your babies to bed for the night?

We go up around 9pm change, feed and swaddled in bedside cot. So down for the night around 10-10:30....ish.

Normally up around 8:30-9:30am

Is that too late?

jpaws · 30/01/2020 20:51

Pretty similar time here for us as well. Can be anything between 9 & 10 taking him upstairs. He is currently sock on in his moses basket so I may as well feed & change him downstairs about half past when he is due his next feed and then take him up to bed then.

Dec19baby · 30/01/2020 23:07

We're still trying to figure out his natural bed time atm.. we usually went up around 10 and then didn't sleep till after 11, 11.30pm. We were still going up around 10 and trying to get him down before 11, but he's just too alert then. He seems to settle and go down 11.30-midnight 🤷

Fivebyfive2 · 31/01/2020 04:00

Usually I go up to bed around 8.30 and dh has Joe downstairs, gives him bottles when needed and keeps the lights down /uses headphones for telly etc. Then he brings him up to me about 1am, he goes in his bedside crib, I have the light off or very dim for feeds/changes etc. We're then up about 7ish. He is still only going 2-3.5 hours sleeping at night though!

primarywoodle · 31/01/2020 13:01

Hi hoping i can join!

My DS was born on 20/12 (3 weeks early!) after many sweeps and eventually an induction (long history of shitty pregnancies!)
Hes a little superstar and big sister DD (3.5years) dotes on him!

Feel like ive forgotten everything and dont know anyone with a young baby now so hoping i can tag along here - i remember the munsnet group after my daughter was born was a godsend! gonna have a read through now and see who im joining :)

primarywoodle · 31/01/2020 13:16

@car1sberg yes! DS has had a cold since birth!! Ive just got the nasal spray but it only works when i use it and doesnt last long grr. Does your DD sound snuffly a lot? I feel like DS is a very noisy breather generally and dont know if this is congestion related?

@Comps different brands deffo leak better/worse but i find aldi nappies great. If they leak a lot i just go up a size and it fixes the problem (this worked for DD and is working so far for DS) just ignore the weight on the packaging tbh

@forevercurious @fivebyfive i remember breastfeeding DD in toilets for the first few weeks but by the end i did it everywhere. Now i have a preschooler, DS gets fed anywhere and everywhere (including the school run!) And i just dont care anymore. Most people dont notice but i do the vest top under everything method so theres nothing on show anyway. It is made significantly easier by lots of practice - takes me about 0.000002 seconds to get him on the boob now but used to take forever with DD!

relationships going from 0 to 1 was the hardest on our relationship. I think men generally are bloody selfish and have no understanding of what its like to go from being your own person to having to put every one of your needs to the side to keep this new baby alive! It got easier for us but took a long time. This time round i just call him out when hes being selfish and deal with the argument cause ive got enough on my plate without tiptoing around his feelings! I think he realised that he had behaved a bit of a twat last time though so he accepts it more 🤣

From me - anyone found any magic cures for nappy rash? I used to swear by metanium but this time its just not shifting it :( doesnt seem to bother DS but i feel like his bum must be so sore! Its a different ballgame changing boy nappies!!!

primarywoodle · 31/01/2020 13:17

Oh my god there were supposed to be paragraphs in that!

Fivebyfive2 · 31/01/2020 14:35

@primarywoodle, welcome and congratulations 🙂

We just do sudo and baby powder.

We went to baby sing/rhymes group today, Joe slept through it all 😂

forevercurious · 31/01/2020 14:40

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps we tend to go up to bed between 9 and 10 too. He will be changed, fed and into his swaddle bag. He is generally asleep by 10 and then usually wakes up every 2 to 4 hours.

Welcome @primarywoodle :) glad you’ve joined us! Sorry I have no advice on the nappy cream. I’ve always thought metanium was the strongest stuff. Could it be he’s reacting to the wipes or nappies? xx

primarywoodle · 31/01/2020 16:50

@alicethecamelhasfivehumps im really trying not to feed him to sleep cause i got stuck in a vicious cycle of that last time so i do nappy and feed downstairs about 9.30ish then into sleepingbag upstairs and we both go to bed.

I have to leave the room for 5-10 mins though cause 90% of the time he puts himself to sleep but he breathes loudly and fidgets for a bit first so i need to resist the urge to pick him back up! (He isnt crying - would obvs pick him up if he was!)

This is new territory for me as DD was honestly the worst sleeper i have ever known and i think that was a huge contributor to bad pnd last time - i was so floored by the exhaustion

What is everyone doing about napping in thw afternoon/evening? Are you still letting them doze as and when or is anyone waking them up by a certain time? Dont know what to do for the best!

primarywoodle · 31/01/2020 16:52

@forevercurious im not sure cause its been the same nappies and wipes since birth so not sure why its only just started? Probably need to do a bit more nappy free time but its so flipping cold!

forevercurious · 31/01/2020 17:16

@primarywoodle ah no idea about the nappy rash then! With the nap timings, you’ve now got me thinking / wondering if I shouldn’t be letting him sleep whenever he wants! I’ve thought from about 10 weeks I’d note down all sleep times to see if there is a pattern and then from 12 weeks try to introduce a bit of a routine once we are out of the 4th trimester.

car1sberg · 31/01/2020 20:16

@primarywoodle yes she sounds snuffly, mostly at night though. I've managed to suck out some snot using a sucky thing, gross I know! Also snufflebabe do a room oil that is suitable from birth so I've been putting that in the humidifier. I'm sure I've tried everything so hoping it passes soon.

DD is exactly a month old today (sob...) and we have zero routine apart from her having a bath and/or fresh babygrow on at 6-6.30pm then into the sling while I sort out our elder two. She sleeps in there until about 9pm when I feed her again and that's us for the night. I wouldn't get anything done if not as she wants held and will fuss etc. Do all the other babies sleep peacefully in their basket/crib in the evening?

Comps83 · 31/01/2020 20:59

Is anyone else formula feeding?
I suddenly feel very bad about not breastfeeding, it didn't bother me before but i suddenly feel guilty

primarywoodle · 31/01/2020 22:30

car1sberg hahahahaha i wish! Mixture of sling + letting him fuss in the rocker/being tied to the sofa usually. Relieved nobody else has a routine yet!

@comps83 why on earth do you feel guilty?! (Silly question - cause youre mum-programmed to feel guilt about everything). But seriously fed is best, it really doesnt matter how the milk gets into them.

forevercurious · 31/01/2020 22:35

@car1sberg nope DS spends the evenings either sleeping on us or being awake on the sofa until we go up to bed. I don’t know how to go about getting him to go down for the night earlier!
