Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

No it was deffo a stressy 'I need my nappy changed and I'm hungry' cry

I'm doing a part time degree and I swear I had more time to do it when I was working full time

Then I get stressed that the house is a tip and as for sleeping when baby sleeps ... hahahahaha

primarywoodle · 05/02/2020 10:13

@forevercurious wow that night sleep is fab! How old is your baby? You could persist with tbe dummy which might help with daytime naps but if hes happy to settle in his crib i would probably put him in that tbh.
I know what you mean about that app - i take the calender with a pinch of salt but i find the leap info so interesting

@comps83 wow cant believe your doing a degree!! How do you have the time!! I barely got anything done last time but now things need doing between 9 and 3 (school run) i get next to nothing done its crazy.
I feel similar about my husband tbh, its a definite relationship test

So ive started running again which is hugely helping my mental health - i actually look forward to it coz its the only time of the day (or night) where nobody is wanting something of me lol.
Also this little chunk was 10lb5 last wednesday and is now 11lb!!!!! I must be producing gold top 🙈

primarywoodle · 05/02/2020 10:14

Grrr i hate this app and its hatred of paragraphs!

Comps83 · 05/02/2020 10:18

I don't have the time! I've had a 3 week extension on my last essay and I still can't get it done

popgoesperfection · 05/02/2020 10:32

Can I re join ladies? Posted a few weeks ago on this thread but haven't posted since then. I'm currently tied to the sofa this morning with a super clingy 9 week old Shock not been able to get much done so have made myself comfy with remote, drink and blanket 💁🏻‍♀️ how old are all your lo's?

Fivebyfive2 · 05/02/2020 10:33

@Comps83, yeah I'd be well annoyed at that... Like @Dec19baby says, if it could be mistaken for just fussing then maybe, but not if they're clearly upset!

As for getting stuff done, I find Joe naps better in the morning, so I manage to do some washing /prep a sandwich for later or do quick jobs like sort the bottles for the evening in between breastfeeding him in the day. But if I didn't have my mum nearby, the house would probably be a bomb site!

I'm thinking of getting a vibrating bouncy chair for Joe. We had a 2nd hand swing one, but he doesn't seem to like it much. He does seem to enjoy being gently bounced when held though and I've heard the vibration can help with wind and to settle them down??

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 05/02/2020 10:34

Hello @popgoesperfection.

Mine is 7 weeks

popgoesperfection · 05/02/2020 10:37

@Fivebyfive2 I have a joie vibrating bouncer and lo loves relaxing in it, perfect for popping him in when getting myself and older dc ready for school etc

popgoesperfection · 05/02/2020 10:39

Hi @AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps
Have you got a boy or a girl? Mines a boy, I have a older ds too who is almost 5 Blush

bespokepaininthearse · 05/02/2020 10:50

We are 5 and a half weeks old now, and get another hurdle with breast feeding, ds has oral thrush which could be why he has become to fussy and difficult to feed. My breastfeeding consultant has told me to put ds back on bottle for his night time bottle as she doesn't think he is doing that well on boob alone, he only put on 1 ounce in 10 days and he doesn't have as many wet and poo nappies as he should, a week later and 1 bottle a day that hasn't changed so I'm so confused. I am getting conflicting advice from different places it's hard to know who to listen to.

The only thing I can't loan about is his sleeping! We have 2 over 2 hour naps in the day, and then bedtime feed at 10, asleep for half past, then he sleeps till 2ish, quick feed and straight back to sleep, awake again at 5, quick feed then back to sleep, then up around half 7 when his big sister wakes him up with her singing 🤣

Is everyone going to groups? Or out and about in general? I am making an effort to get out more as I didnt with dd, I go to a breastfeeding group and another group. Am hoping to go to baby massage as well but it doesn't look like I can start him until over 6 weeks so hopefully we will start soon!

bespokepaininthearse · 05/02/2020 10:54

@Fivebyfive2 a vibrating chair has got to be worth a try! We love our swinging chair here, I went for that this time as my dd was never a fan of her vibrating chair so we just stuck with what we know this time. It's nice to have somewhere to put them down and know they are content.

popgoesperfection · 05/02/2020 10:58

Breastfeeding is so difficult, sounds like your doing a great job to me!! I only managed a week as lo wasn't latching properly or getting enough milk and it became too stressful so he's fully ff now, still feel guilty about it now though. We go to a story and rhyme group every week and I try and at least have a walk every day whether it's just around the block or to costa for a brew. Makes you feel so much better getting out of the house doesn't it.

bespokepaininthearse · 05/02/2020 12:15

@popgoesperfection definitely! I have school runs everyday to do which is helping to at least get some fresh air on the days where I don't have any plans. Well done for doing a week. it's so hard, and as we all know fed is best so please don't feel guilty in anyway. I only fed my first for a few weeks it was so difficult and and I kicked myself for a long time after and I promised myself I would try this time, if it doesn't work it doesn't work and will not beat myself up here it!

popgoesperfection · 05/02/2020 13:07

It's nice to have a chat to teachers / other parents and grandparents too isn't it, takes me a while doing school run just because I stop to natter to everyone 🙈 has anyone managed any cleaning / washing / going to the toilet this morning 😳

primarywoodle · 06/02/2020 19:17

@popgoesperfection haha my well b3haved almost 7 week old has suddenly become super clingy! The sling has already paid for itself lol

@fivebyfive2 have a look on facebook selling sites! We got a brand new mamas and papas one for a tenner. I stick Ash in it wgen im in the shower (also helps his snotty nose as its more upright and steamy room)

@bespokepaininthearse have you tried ringing la leche league re: breastfeeding? Also ive got a group or activity for every day. Its so hard going from teaching to maternity leave cause its such a social job - the silence was sending me crazy! Theres an app called "hoop" which is fab for seeing what groups are on locally

Re: school runs - do you find you suddenly have much less time than your first maternity leave!!! I pick dd up at 3.30 and i feel like half the day is missing to get stuff done 😂

bespokepaininthearse · 06/02/2020 19:47

@primarywoodle i know the day between drop off and pick up is so short! I feel like I just get back, eat lunch and then I have to go and get her again 🤣

The breastfeeding councillor is pet of the k Leche group so am getting lots of info from her, and the. Different advice from my health visitor, and then add on top all the advice from people with experience it's all abit much 😂

Good for you, I don't think I could quite manage an activity everyday, but we are doing so much better than I did with my first, I was already in a slightly dark place by now last time - it's amazing how different experiences you can have.

bespokepaininthearse · 06/02/2020 19:47

' part of the la leche group'

popgoesperfection · 06/02/2020 21:25

@primarywoodle definitely.... I drop off, have a brew when I get home, clean, settle the baby then it's half 3

@bespokepaininthearse I know how you feel regarding the groups, I never dared go to any with my first and suffered quite badly with pnd and anxiety. I have it under contour this time around and enjoy going out on a daily basis Smile

Fivebyfive2 · 07/02/2020 10:14

Anyone else had the 8 week jabs yet?? Joe was not a happy boy yesterday!! Seems better today, but I think he needs a big poo 😲

Ladies I'm well chuffed, I found a chicco balloon bouncer on gumtree, seller lives 10 mins away from me and it's £30 instead of £70 new, has hardly been used. Love a Fri bargain 😀

Also, is anyone else's baby still waking at least every 2-3 hours at night for feeds?? Sil has made me feel he should be going longer by now, but he's only 8 weeks and was 4 weeks early?! He seems content most of the time so didn't think much of it until now. It's hard for us (we're still doing shifts some nights) but we just figured he'd start going longer between feeds when he's ready?? We mix feed, if that makes a difference!

Dec19baby · 07/02/2020 10:34

I'm really lucky with ours tbh. Although it's tiring, he goes down at 11 30ish and wakes between 2-3 for a feed, and that's him until 6-7. So I only count that as once a night as from 6 onwards I'd say that's morning.
My wee one is currently asleep in my arms which is very unusual for the morning, he's been bringing up his milk since last night after nearly every feed so I'm really worried he's not getting his food. And wasting my previous hard worked for milk lol it's so worrying as a first time parent when there's something wrong!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 07/02/2020 12:04

Five

Ours are on Wednesday....

Mine sleeps well at night. Last night she slept from around 10pm-3am, the. From around 4:30-8. But this, I think is partly because she's being topped up with formula, because she's taking ages to feed (70-90+ minutes on boob!) due to suspected tongue tie....So will be interesting to see if that changes if she gets shipped.

bespokepaininthearse · 07/02/2020 13:33

70 minutes feeding? Are you getting the tongue tie cut? That so long, my ds only feeds for about ten minutes on each boob, I always worry he isn't getting enough 😣 how long does everyone else's babies take per boob?

Ds sleeps quite well at night, but I think because he has a bottle when he goes to bed at 10, then sleeps through till 3, then he has boob at 3, then 6, then up at half 7-8.

Anyone else struggling with feeding at certain times of the day? Night he feed perfectly, and most of the day, then as it starts to get to evening, he never seems to be full and gets so fussy, I have to top him up.

Dec19baby · 07/02/2020 13:56

@bespokepaininthearse that sounds like us. Babies are known to be fussy in the evenings, and I think it's due to the fact that if they know the difference between night and day they're getting extra food for the nighttime as they sleep for longer..

I physically couldn't do 70-90 mins BF at a time. By time you finish and burp and potentially change, it could be 2-3 hours and it's time for the next one. My wee one does about 20 mins, but ends up sleeping so its probably sucking for less than the 20 mins.

bespokepaininthearse · 07/02/2020 14:20

I don't think I could physically do that either tbh, 20-25 minutes is about our average, although my breastfeeding lady has told me she doesn't think that's long enough. He usually falls asleep in the boob too tbh

Fivebyfive2 · 07/02/2020 14:29

@bespokepaininthearse, a midwife told me our supply can get weaker in the evening and also alot of babies get fussier then too.
