Sorry, couldn't think of anything witty against a background of constant whinging!

Ow BZ...I hope it's ok ad nothing serious.

what a crap day tallulah. My DD does this wee sigh and smile after a crying fit and although for the last x many hours you've been wondering "why, oh why did I think another baby was a good idea?"; that wee sigh and smile just melt it all away!

My day has been much better and I had a pain free feed on the right for the first time in about four weeks. The doc thinks the thrush has been building since I had the anti-biotics when she was 2 weeks old . would explain all the latching problems and the steadily worsening pain!

NAPPY FOLDS. I like the Jo-fold and Gaynor's fold. Tried the butterfly one and just couldn't figure it out, but origami was never my strong point. I've put her in a terry overnight tonight with the Jo-fold, and an extra booster, so I'll let you know how it goes!

faylisa · 25/08/2007 20:41

hi all

Happy birthday to birthday girls and sorry to hear some of you are having a painful/hard time.

DS screamed for 1/2 hr yesterday - feeding and changing didn' help - then DH gave him gripe water (quite a battle as he hates it so just screamed louder and went bright red). After 5 mins of back rubbing he did an enormous burp which shook his whole body, smiled and went to sleep! It's awful what trapped wind can do

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/08/2007 20:42

Ria....althought the initial outlay is big....we reckon that we will save about £1200 on the cost of disposables (assuming like DS she is still in night nappies at 5 years old). and you can re-sell them when you are finished with them.

I bought 10 nappies and 4 wraps, plus fleece liners second hand for £35 on Nappy lady classifieds and they are in really good condition.

But, a six pack of terries from mothercare is only £10 or they do a bucket with 12 terries, a pack of 6 rubber pants (I'd buy some additional wraps personally), plus pins nappysan and 100 liners for £30. You'd want at least 18 nappies so you only needed to wash every other day, and maybe some boosters....so £60 - £75 should see you through to potty training.

I'm turning into a nappy evangelist....like I've said before if only I could put this much energy into sorting my blardy house out!

riabutterflew · 25/08/2007 21:10

Thanks, you sure are passionate daisy! I was talking to my sisters neighbour (my mums generation) today and she said they were advised 24 terries, but she said at least 48! perhaps when DH goes back to work (good news - he went to see his new boss today and she is happy to wait until October for him if necessary, hopefully it will only be another 4 weeks before he can work, but maybe that means she can see he's worth it?)and we have some of that thing - what's it called? Disposable (pardon the pun) income! I will get onto it, for now it's tescos size 2 (unless I drink too much and can't find anything else to buy on ebay!).

Am glad you are getting pain free, especially when you are happy with the BF 2nd time around(I think I had given up by now with ds1 as too awful - DH keeps saying (when not humphing cos I'm sat on the settee)he has never seen me so happy with the BF).

John Nettles on the telly - more classy than Clarkson?

I will be back later - even if no-one else is here!

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/08/2007 21:20

Got DD down early & am off to bed myself now. God I'm shattered.

Daisy - how did you know you had thrush - was it just boob pain ? I had anti-biotics when DD 2 wks old & was surprised to not get it.Have only ever had thrush 'down there' & always after anti-biotics. But my nipples are still really sore - boobs not painful tho. I don't seem to have any other any symptoms & no white spots on DD's mouth.

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/08/2007 21:24

I only use 5 or 6 a day, so 48 would be good if only washing twice a week. I don't know about you, but mine is on every bloody day, boys being mucky little things and all!
But, I've got 8 shaped and 4 stuffable, plus six terries as standby, and four wraps and I wash them every other day.

BTW...I have loads (a huge roll) of flushable liners that I'm not going to use if anyone wants them!

faylisa · 25/08/2007 21:30

All this talk of reusables is making me feel a bit guilty about all my landfill but I'm not sure I could stand to do any more washing than I do already.

With everyone buying on ebay you'd best be careful you're not bidding against each other!

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/08/2007 21:35

tallulah, last weekend I had pains that were intermittent and seemed to be pulsing from my nipple into my armpit. They started towards the end of a feed and were lasting for about an hour. I knew it wasn't a blocked duct/mastitis as there were no lumpen bits or red patches. I've also had tingly feelings in my arms and horrible headaches, but don't know if they're connected or not

DD has no signs in her mouth and until today hadn't any nasty nappy rash (although she did have immediately after me finishing the course of ABs).

she's also been really clucky and that has been getting progressively worse as well and she has been struggling to keep latched on. She's also been very dribbly which I put down to teething, but might have been the thrush.

the only sign of it on me is my nipples look very pale (compared to the aereoli(sp?)) and a bit shiny.

Tonight I've had two feeds where she has stayed latched on and I've been pain free in one boob and pain-less in the other.

Life is so much brighter when you aren't in agony

Breastfeeding Network leaflet on thrush. A paper copy of this was given to me by my HV.

trendaverter · 25/08/2007 21:40

DS did his first proper laugh today!

With about 4 witnesses, he was on his playmat and about 5 times he giggled!!

We were on our way out and left him being babysat, we were so glad we didn't miss it. AWWWWW

(oh and happy birthday ladies!!)
Went to see the Bourne Ultimatum, BRILLIANT!

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/08/2007 21:40

and babyboo loves the nystatin...it's cherry flavoured and she grabs my hand to force the dropper in her mouth.....first taste of anything other than mum and she likes it

right, off for a comfy seat and to talk to my poor DH now he's finished in the garage for today.

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/08/2007 21:41

TA...it's lovely isn't it? It makes all the pain and discomfort and worry worth it a million times over!

trendaverter · 25/08/2007 21:45

Yes it was lovely.
The first smile was good... the morning chats we have are better... but the laugh was the best

riabutterflew · 25/08/2007 22:10

[vaguely]I promise to try reducing my landfill soon...(I never seem to stop washing. DHs whites are the worst.)

I am going to commit a Midsomer Murder on DH. We were having a conversation about our tea (tesco chinese meal for two) and how DH could prepare somethig far more delcious and nutritios in 25 mins, and how I could burn something beyond belief in the same time (ie - we do not need to eat ready meals) and DH said something to LO about he shouldn't laugh as he's not old enough to have an opinion and he's getting the best sort of mummy meal as I can't burn that. Git.

riabutterflew · 25/08/2007 22:12

bollocks. my spelling (swear words aside) is as bad as my cooking. BTW, DS1 can do text spelling perfectly. If theyinvent that as a GCSE he could go far!

nitenite/Rx

daisyandbabybootoo · 25/08/2007 23:34

yay...I've managed to sort out my wireless connection all by myself...I can MN and watch TV at the same time again .

TA....when DD did her first proper giggle she got such a surprise and she was trying to do it again, but couldn't figure it out!

Her fave game at the minute is I say "1, 2, 3....up" and she pushes herself up (with my help) to standing on my lap (with the biggest grin on her face), then I say "1, 2, 3....and down again" and she sits down. As soon as I say 1 now, she's straining to get up. She also likes to "walk" from my knees to my belly, and gets one foot going then the other. She seems so much quicker at things than DS was.

LOL Ria.....if he can cook something better in 25 mins, tell him "be my guest"

Don't know where any of you live, but my local council has got this promotion going with regard to washables, so it might be worth investigating what is on offer for you locally.

faylisa · 26/08/2007 09:06

Our council does the same - £50 cashback redeemable against either the reuseables or a nappy laundering service: www.richmond.gov.uk/home/environment/rubbish_waste_and_recycling/reduce_and_reuse/re-usable_nappies/ reusablenappyincentive_scheme.htm

faylisa · 26/08/2007 09:08

Not sure whether this has already been mentioned but our council recommends the Used Nappy Company www.usednappies.co.uk/

TALLULAHBELLE · 26/08/2007 09:38

Thanks for thrush info Daisy - think its Raynauds by the sound of it as all pain in the nipple, breasts fine. I'll take the liners off your hands. I'll e mail my addy & you can let me know what you want for them.

After DD being such a midden yeterday she slept from 9pm to almost 6 then till back of 8. She is full of smiles, giggles & chatter this morning. I almost forgive her!

bumperlicious · 26/08/2007 10:57

Is it too far along to be having one of those "oh my god what the hell have I done I'm not sure I can do this any more days"? Coz I'm having one.

I'm sure it's just coz I am tired and DH has been working since Tuesday won't get a day off till next friday so I am feeling like I am doing this all on my own. Plus all this stress about our house. But I just want a break. I want some time to myself. I want to be able to go outside and enjoy the lovely weather, not have to sit in the shade because of DD. I want to be able to sleep for 8 hours. I don't want to be fat any more.

Sorry, I'm just having one of those days. So is DD by the sound her crying...

TALLULAHBELLE · 26/08/2007 11:08

I'm with you Bumper - had same thoughts yesterday. But today is better - so far. It will get easier - one day they will go to school.

bumperlicious · 26/08/2007 15:08

Thanks T. Sorry to complain - when you don't even get a break

OP posts:
foxybrown · 26/08/2007 15:49

Tallulah is right, Bumper. Every day is different.

I'm sorry you are feeling low, but I wanted to reassure you that it is perfectly to feel like this and we all do - especially with the first! Its a major life change, more so for us that our DPs as they have the continuity of their jobs to go to. For us, our whole life and identities have changed.

Bumper, its really hard and a huge responsibility. And you are doing really well, you are obviously a great, caring, loving mum and a lovely person. Take each day as it comes honey.

When its really crap and you want to cry the whole time, she'll do something - like laugh - and you'll forget how shite you feel!

Now, I'm not meant to be here, was only going to have a quick lurk! xxx

bumperlicious · 26/08/2007 15:56

Thanks foxy, your nice posts always make me cry! (in a good way). Just feeling a bit bored and lonely. I've been going to a couple of groups, but friendships seem to be slow burning once you get to adulthood.

OP posts:
foxybrown · 26/08/2007 16:22

Thats so true Bumper. It takes ages for strong bonds to be formed with other mums I found, and even now I've only got a couple of really good friends made since I started this parenting malarky. Its hard work forming those friendships too.

But it does come good, and they are friends for life. And we've all had more children together, and our children are friends. So its well worth it.
