Aaa hello @Stroan ! I'd been wondering how you were getting on! 17 weeks!?! That's outrageous. DD is 12 weeks on Tuesday which I think is pretty outrageous too (next jabs on Thursday, fun and games...)
I'm with you on the resisting routine, although school/nursery do get in the way a bit, tedious things.
@IVEgotthetinselBITCHES I've been thinking of you too, how are the essays?? I'm still spectacularly ineffective, I keep thinking of you and all your juggling and being awestruck.

My mum is staying from now til after Christmas, so hoping to power through a few jobs while she is here. Maybe...

DustyDoorframes · 15/12/2019 08:35

PS: DC3 gets almost no floor time for fear of being run over by her galumphing siblings (the bouncy chair is our friend). She may never roll...

Dyra · 15/12/2019 09:00

Thank goodness there's others out there not a fan of routine. I've done shift work for the past 5 years (no set days), so I've never had a routine for myself, never mind building one for another person!

I can also relate to the bad baby breastfeeding naughtiness. Alice occasionally clamps down and pulls back as well. Her favourite thing to do though is anything else rather than feed. She looks around, stares intently at the light, sucks her fist, coos and smiles at me, but when I give up trying and put myself away, back come the insistent feeding cues. sigh

happydays00 · 15/12/2019 09:08

I wasn't actually asking about routine.. I was asking if people's babies are napping for longer than 40ish minutes at a time and if so, how/where? 🤷‍♀️

kyles101 · 15/12/2019 09:59

Hello @Stroan lovely to "hear" from you! 17 weeks! Also having the Moses basket / carry cot blues here... I think I can stretch both TIL after Xmas. How were the 16 week jabs? DS has his on 27th but we're so busy between Xmas and new year wondering if I should postpone until new year?

@happydays00 we very rarely have longer than 1 sleep cycle in the day either. DS has to be pretty well timed to even manage the full cycle if he wakes and realises he's been put down 🙄 usually get a couple of hours at around 3 if we've had a nice busy day, but it's more of a fluke than skill I think! Fully expecting a wake up any second so byeeeee!

Stroan · 15/12/2019 10:03

Sorry, I was commenting on the general chat about daytime sleeping.

I'm afraid I have no idea how to be honest, he tends to fall asleep in either the car or pram and then stays asleep even if I transfer him. We tend to be busy at that time so haven't had a day to see what happens without the car or pram. All other sleep happens on me after a feed, sometimes I can transfer him but that's rare.

Horehound · 15/12/2019 10:13

Arthur has a fair few a day usually around an hour each time. (Not always sometimes 15/30mins)..

In his Moses basket in the living room but if we are out he does sleep too and the car always puts him to sleep.
I just put him down for a nap. We woke up at 08.45 am he had a feed and DH took him downstairs for playing games etc then he could see he was getting tired so carried him around for a bit then I came down and put him in his basket with a dummy.
He's gone down so soon because he usually sleeps 12am to 12pm but we've started going to bed earlier to get out of that cycle so he'd usually still sleep for another two hours. I doubt he will sleep that long this morning but will see. He usually just has cycles of wake, feed, play, nappy change, play, nap. And around we go again.
We are meeting santa today!

Horehound · 15/12/2019 10:15

Hi @Stroan good to see you back here! 17 weeks has come around so fast hasn't it?! Arthur is 16.5 weeks and has his jabs tomorrow :( not looking forward to them at all. How did you get on?

DustyDoorframes · 15/12/2019 11:32

DC1 never really napped more than 40-45 mins, I think it's luck of the draw to some extent. I had a friend on mat leave at the same time who had a baby who had two three hour naps in his cot every day the whole time she was off, she was so bored!
DC2 would go for an hour or a bit more, mostly in the sling or pushchair (sometime two hours in the pushchair). I think DC3 is similar, but still figuring it out. She seems to like a big 1-2 hour sleep at some point in the late morning/early afternoon (sometimes drops off in the bouncy chair while I have lunch and then stays happily asleep with the dishwasher running, that's brilliant!)

Stroan · 15/12/2019 11:56

@Horehound I deferred his last immunisations, he was still wheezy from having bronchiolitis. Waiting for a new appointment to come through.

kyles101 · 15/12/2019 12:01

@Horehound now DS is ff we have the exact same cycles - eat, play, nappy, play, nap. When he was bf he needed another boob before napping.

db92 · 15/12/2019 12:11

The only time we get more than half hour or so nap time is when he's sleeping on one of us. It's very rare that we manage to transfer him and not wake him up unless at bed time.

If he's asleep on us and we make no attempts to move him, we get an hour maybe an hour and a half.

We don't really have a set routine here either. He's settled himself into his own routine at night. During the day we try and get a nap in after 2-2.5 hours awake but that's only because he turns into a real grump if he's awake any longer than that. We don't push it though with any specific timings. Same as his bottles. He'll have one every 3-4 hours but no set times (or amount for that matter).

Geegrl19 · 15/12/2019 14:29

So my Sunday turned to 💩 eldest dd (15) was at scout camp and had a bad accident and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance! There were four of them on top of a disused water tank (kids!) and the top caved in and they fell about 3 metres 😱 dd came off worst and a big lump of concrete landed on her hips and a piece on her face. She had to be pulled out. Was very confronting seeing her in emergency in a neck brace. She had a CT and thankfully only (!) has fractures to parts of 3 lumbar vertebrae. Apparently is the part to damage if you're going to injure your spine. She is so lucky, makes me feel sick thinking about it.

So I'm on a pull out bed in her room and Nate is asleep on me as he won't settle in the cot here. I'm so tired and can't see me getting a wink of sleep anytime soon. Help!

Stroan · 15/12/2019 14:57

Oh @geegrl19 that sounds terrifying, hope you manage to get some sleep.

What are the next steps for DD?

DustyDoorframes · 15/12/2019 15:08

Oh my gosh @Geegrl19 !!!! What a nightmare!!!
V glad to hear that it's not as bad as it could have been (and also that the hospital can make space for you and Nate, that's really well organised). I hope you all manage a bit of rest (you are in Australia, right?)

Geegrl19 · 15/12/2019 15:24

Yes, in oz is currently 2am ish. The rooms here have a pull out bed chair which is good. Be even better if I could put Nate down and sleep! We're the only ones in the room.

The part that's injured (had a google,
is called the transverse process and is a knobby bit on the side of the vertebrae that the ligaments and muscles of the back attach to) doesn't require specialist treatment so she is very lucky. Will take up to 8 weeks to fully heal and she will be very sore. She's been up to the toilet which is great. She's a tough cookie. I didn't know how serious it was till I got to the hospital as she'd told me she was fine and I could see that she'd been snap chatting in the ambulance. She's sleeping now, I can hear her snoring!

Horehound · 15/12/2019 15:59

Bloody hell @Geegrl19 that's insane. Thank god that's as bad as it was. Wishing her a speedy recovery and I'm sure that'll be lesson learned on her part!

@Stroan ah I see. Arthur has had a cold and really just coming to the end of it..wasn't sure if should postpone but I'll give them a call first thing tomorrow. He is better now but it's still lingering about a bit.
We've just been to see santa. It was brilliant. Got a bauble with his name on and a letter from santa and a photo of us all..it was great! Nice lunch with my folks too. I love Christmas!

donttellmetwice · 15/12/2019 16:13

Ooo just stumbled across this thread! Had my lo in September! So looking forward to our first Christmas as a family of 3! Not that she has a clue 😁

iano · 15/12/2019 16:24

Oh gosh @Geegrl19, I'm soo sorry to hear that. Sounds scary for you. Hope she's better soon

Dyra · 15/12/2019 16:52

@happydays00 Ah sorry. I'm in the same boat as db92. Alice can nap during the day for quite a long while (1 hr+), but only on me. She wakes up if I try to put her down in her basket, unless it's after 11pm. She'll fall asleep in her pram and car seat, but wakes up quite rapidly (within a couple of minutes) once we arrive. She still falls asleep after feeds at least which is handy.

@kyles101 I'm postponing Alice's jabs until the new year. They were due on the 27th as well, but we're still away that day, and the following Friday as well, so they're scheduled for the 10th.

Oh my goodness @Geegrl19. How awful for you all. Glad DD is ok, and will recover.

@Horehound How cute! I really want Alice to see Santa, but it's just finding the time to go out to one.

Stroan · 15/12/2019 17:04

Sending lots of good recovery vibes @geegrl19.

@horehound I think they would have done DSs immunisations but I wanted him to have more recovery time, especially as DD is onto what feels like the 37th cold of the winter. The HV agreed with me but it's been a bit painful trying to rearrange. I left three messages saying he wouldn't be coming and then got an angry voicemail asking why I hadn't called them.

Sounds like a lovely day. I love Christmas too, we are working through a list of festive adventures with DD - about to go and let her have a go at some wrapping! We always visit Santa on Christmas Eve in the woods, you go on a trailer through the woods which are lit up and arrive at Santa's shed. He has a chat with all the kids and they pick a gift, it's just lovely. I will be devastated when both kids are too old for it!

happydays00 · 15/12/2019 19:29

@Geegrl19 how absolutely terrifying for you! Sending you and your family some huge well wishes!

@Stroan sorry , my response wasn't aimed for you directly- I just felt I was getting a bit pounced on for "forcing" routines from all the responses when my post really wasn't about routines at all!! My DH and I had a big argument this morning and I think I took my anger out on my keyboard! Apologies to all!

Horehound · 15/12/2019 19:33

Omg @stroan that sounds amazing! How festive!
We had him dressed as an elf and he was supperrr cute!
That's so typical re. The doctor's...the cheek!

Have fun with the wrapping :)

DustyDoorframes · 15/12/2019 21:06

Haha @happydays00 no pouncing intended! I think it's so interesting how differently everyone does it!
@Stroan woodland Xmas eve sounds incredibly lovely! That's gorgeous!
@Geegrl19 I hope you are all soundly asleep by now. It's going to be a long 8 weeks....

Stroan · 15/12/2019 21:19

@happydays00 no need to apologise, hope your day got better and you crack the sleeping soon x
