Thread number 2 for our August / September 2019 due date babies.

DS is having a regression on nighttime sleep since moving over to combi - seems to want to wale at 1am whereas before would always go through until 3am...

Oh I've never head of insects coming out of the tree until last week when my friend had an ant nest in hers! Like Megan we've always had a real one and the trees are bred not to drop needles.
Mine has needles on floor just from putting it up and not hoovered yet.

I've also clipped some branches to us for our door wreath :)
I'm thrifty Grin

DustyDoorframes · 11/12/2019 15:54

Oh no re insects!!! I'd never heard of that either, which, come to think of it, is actually somewhat sinister, they must spray them ferociously! When we bring ours in it's going to need hosing down...

Horehound · 11/12/2019 16:21

Hmm I doubt they would spray them tbh. I feel like it's probably more bad luck than anything. These trees don't have much of anything an insect would live on and the pine sap makes creosote which is toxic to many insects.

Dyra · 11/12/2019 18:03

Poor Felicity Megan2018. Hope she is feeling much better in herself now.

Alice has pretty much slept and cluster fed all day long. Didn't get out of bed until nearly 2pm. Hopefully it's just a growth spurt.

Geegrl19 · 11/12/2019 21:06

Argh, milk pumping fail. So I pump late at night as Nate has a bottle before bed and this also stops too much engorgement come morning. I get up this morning and I left the milk on the bench instead of putting it in the fridge. I must have been rinsing the pump and forgot. How stupid of me! Just tipped 200ml down the sink. So annoyed at myself, what a waste 😔

Florencenotflo · 11/12/2019 21:36

Hi all. Just popping in to say hi! Sorry I haven't been on the old thread but I've just been catching up with all the updates.

Lois is 14 weeks already and it's going so quickly 😩 and considering I'm on maternity leave I have no idea how I fit work in as well! I seem to be busy all the time!

Hope everyone is ok though!

Horehound · 11/12/2019 22:15

Oh that's annoying geegrl19 nevermind you'll make more in no time :)

Florencenotflo lol I know what you mean ..crazy. I'm dreading going back to work but that's wayyy off although time seems to be flying.

We didn't get up until 11.45 this morning but we did have a little awake time earlier on. Then we went to a garden centre and had lunch and wander round the Xmas stuff but basically we've missed all Arthur's proper naps and he's basically been wide awake and babbling away allllll evening! It's quite funny because he's so happy and so loud! I've only just managed to get him down now but I know he will wake up soon for a feed then it will be proper bedtime but again, it's still so late.
Really need to get this timing down earlier.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 11/12/2019 23:44

Gah I just want to sleeeeep. Catherine is definitely tired, will happily fall asleep on me but if I lay her in the crib she's awake in minutes. Don't know whether to go back to swaddling her, but am sure I read not to do it past 14 weeks and she'll be 12 on Monday 🙈

Horehound · 12/12/2019 02:52

I would try it!

DustyDoorframes · 12/12/2019 09:05

Yes, @Littlehouseinthebigcity that's two weeks in the bank! I'd swaddle!
Hello @Florencenotflo !!!
Aaaah @Dyra those stuck-in-bed day's with DC1 are just glorious (in retrospect...). Hope you manage to get up today (if you want to!)

Dyra · 12/12/2019 10:47

Heh heh. Thanks Dusty. Still in bed atm. Don't particularly want to get up, but we've got a baby group today, so we'll emerge eventually.

Littlehouse swaddle away. Whatever gets you both some sleep is worth doing imo.

Hi Florencenotflo! I was looking back on the antenatal threads the other day, and wondered how everyone was getting on. Glad you and Lois are doing well. Alice is 14 weeks today. Time has flown. Can't believe it's a quarter of the way into maternity leave already.

Vacillating between going back and not going back to work. Some days going to work would be wonderful, and the extra money would be great. Other days, I feel so guilty about it. I know I need to go, but I'm going to remain in denial, and panic about the whole mess closer to the time. We're pretty sure we can cope without childcare if I'm given certain shifts.

Alice seems have developed a bit of a party trick. She can take a properly secured nappy and wriggle her bottom out of it from under her vest, baby grow and sleep bag. For her next trick, she then goes on to create a giant wet patch and somehow remain sleeping soundly in it.

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 12/12/2019 11:18

dyra we have that party trick too! What nappies are you using?

Dyra · 12/12/2019 11:31

Aldi's. Though I think one night it might have been Pampers. She doesn't do it every night (thank God), but she's managed it 3 in the last 5.

happydays00 · 12/12/2019 11:49

@Megan2018 your tree has no needle drop?! At all?! Where is this magical farm? I wouldn't say we have excessive drops but after a few weeks there's definitely some!

How are day time naps for babies going? DS is 4 months now (I can't remember weeks but I'd guess around 19ish) and is doing great at night: 80% of the time he sleeps 7 to 6 with a dream feed, 20% of the time he has a 4am feed. Day time naps he is literally doing 1 x cycle of 45 minutes on the dot and then awake. Which is not an issue but he's waking up grumpy as though he still wants to be asleep. I try getting in there before he wakes, doing some rocking, dummy in, shushing etc but to no avail. Does anyone have any other tricks to help link sleep cycles? My DD was managing longer naps by 4 months I think and seemed happier for it!

Megan2018 · 12/12/2019 12:26

We had a weigh in today, reached the dizzy heights of 9lb 6 at 12+4 Grin

HV very pleased as she is following the same line, just below 2nd centile so we don’t need to go back for further weigh ins unless we want to. Very relieved, I was paranoid they’d want formula top ups but they are very supportive of EBF and say she’s doing perfectly well and they don’t want her weight to accelerate, just stay steady. Phew.

Megan2018 · 12/12/2019 12:29

@happydays00
Digby’s Christmas Tree farm in North Luffenham. The only time we had drop was when it was underwatered, too close to the fire or when the kitten climbed it Hmm but fortunately he’s grown out of that now.
But otherwise as long as we look after it no drop (sometimes lose a few when taking it out the house at the end as the door a bit narrow for it).

DustyDoorframes · 12/12/2019 16:33

Eeep @Dyra and @IVEgotthetinselBITCHES if that party trick carries on you could try putting a washable wrap on over the top? They have elastic at the back which helps? Wriggly things!
How's it going Decaf?? I keep thinking of you doing your assignments, I can barely keep everyone fed and dressed!
@happydays00 I must say I've never had any kind of structure to naps, they happen when they happen...
Woo boo re weight @Megan2018 ! That's great news!

kyles101 · 12/12/2019 19:39

Christmas tree fail - we didn't think the water ever actually did anything so haven't watered it this year - whoops - drops every time you touch it at its only been in a week 😂 can you spot our dec that we made a couple of weeks ago?

Yay for supportive hv @Megan2018 we have another weigh tomorrow- despite the 2lb gain they still want to do it every 2 weeks until he's seen the paediatrician 🙄 I don't actually mind. Despite her panic at not following exact curves on graphs (apparently she has 4 or 5 being monitored like ds!) I actually quite like her and don't mind the record of his weight.

@Horehound I'm back on 2nd March 😩 much sooner than I would like but I just can't afford to be off any longer. I originally thought it would be January but DH bless him has done so much overtime, I can have another couple of months. The only downside is that I feel like DH has missed out a bit not having as much time at home, but he prefers them when they get a bit older anyway and (in his words) start doing stuff like crawling. They are a bit sturdier!

Hi @DustyDoorframes

@Dyra As much as I am hating the thought of going back, i remember feeling the same with dd1. I cried on the way to work. A few weeks in and it was fine. Nice to get out (without a baby) and do something different for a change! And how is she doing that with her nappy!

You can tell this is baby number 2... I haven't had her weighed since I was signed off by the MW and HV 😂 I think dd1 was taken religiously every fortnight! She was around 13lbs at an appointment a couple of weeks ago. But she was 8lbs 15oz when she was born and has followed the 85th percentile ever since.

Geegrl19 · 13/12/2019 02:50

Argh, breastfeeding bad baby habits. Nate thinks my bioobs are elastic and will just stretch wherever he's pulling his head. He also likes to detach by just ripping his head backwards away from my nipple, I'm glad they've toughened up. Also as this is number three, my bioobs are in a shocking state. when they're not super full he scrunches the skin while he's feeding, yuk horrible. I try and have a muslin there but he still does it.

@Florencenotflo I'm back at work three days a week from 5th Feb. It's so close! I wonder how daycare are going to handle his terrible daytime sleeping 😒

Florencenotflo · 13/12/2019 08:58

@Geegrl19 probably better than you think! My friend had the same concerns with her eldest, weirdly her daytime sleep improved because of her routine at nursery. It then got better at home. But I remember with my eldest that we would just get something sorted (naps for example) and get into a nice routine, then we'd hit a sleep regression or have a coupe of teeth come through, or a cold and everything would go out the window 😂 once she'd got over it we'd be back to square one again trying to get her back into some kind of routine. Just to cheer you up!

Geegrl19 · 13/12/2019 12:42

@Florencenotflo would be great if they could work a miracle! I have visions of being called at work if he doesn't settle. Good to hear about your friends experience, gives me hope 😊

Really not having luck pumping this week. My medela swing just got milk in the tube and motor so had to clean it, not sure why. Am using my shitty older one (got given the swing) and I'm hardly getting anything out so boobs will be rocks come morning. So frustrating! It's also really noisy and disturbing Nate who is next to me sleeping - well he was, grrr.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 13/12/2019 14:43

Thanks for all the encouragement. We swaddled last night and had a much better night!!

Geegrl19 · 14/12/2019 00:03

@Littlehouseinthebigcity glad you had a better night. Do whatever you can for a better night I say!

Stroan · 14/12/2019 23:55

Hello! I've not been on for ages, had to send my phone away to be fixed and one handed typing on an iPad with a wriggly baby was a bit too much effort!

DS is 17 weeks now, which is too many weeks! Can't keep him clothes, he keeps outgrowing all his tops and is almost too big for the pram. It's breaking my heart to think about using the carrycot for the last time.

His reflux has ramped up again so we've both been drenched in sick all week. I definitely won't miss that when he outgrows it. I feel a bit guilty as he is rarely put down because he just vomits everywhere - he's trying hard to roll, more floor time would definitely help but would also create more washing.

I am fighting hard against routine here! I hate routine in my own life and I let DD just form her own routine, worked well so doing the same with DS. He's started having a lovely long nap in the middle of the day which is very helpful.

@geegrl19 similar breastfeeding habits here, he likes to have a good look around with my nipple clamped in his mouth. Or in public, he likes to delatch and have a wee chat with me but protests loudly if I attempt to cover myself up. It's a joy!
