To be honest, if she is still gaining weight I would be happy enough with that. I hate having to stick to charts etc because we are all different! That said, Arthur did drop a tiny bit and I wondered why but I know he is eating a lot and producing lots of nappies...we can't do any more and he isn't looking for more food so I'm not doing anything about that!

Horehound · 09/12/2019 16:49

Oh and she's having a good long sleep so that's halving her feeding time!

DustyDoorframes · 09/12/2019 18:17

@Dyra did you have IV fluids in/before labour? Sometimes that makes a baby weigh above their centile, so they drop after. Although that's pretty much immediate to be fair. Sometimes they just find their centile and that's fine! Are you/DP small?
@Horehound my totsbots and joys look the same. Yes, label on the outside, but the stitching wicks moisture into them when the pads inside get soaked (DC3 is a heavy wetter I think!). Annoying!
@Megan2018 oooh I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the baba and boos, I don't remember them being around when I was last in the market for nappies!

Megan2018 · 09/12/2019 18:42

My HV says the charts are bollocks. Well she doesn’t use that word but she doesn’t even plot the chart, she just wants to see a gain.
We are in on Thurs so will update with where we are then.

I’ll let you know @DustyDoorframes once we are using the Baba and Boo. They appear to be very well made, they fit from 10lb but best from 12lb apparently. I think we are barely 9lb so be a while yet. Bumgenius fit from 7lb and I can confirm no leaks on this skinny tot.

I hate the velcro as the tabs always come undone in my machine and the cloth wipes end up stuck, does my head in. So I’ve bought mainly poppers. Plus toddlers can undo velcro I’ve been warned!

Argh help! Earlier today I changed Arthur nappy and saw more mucus but just decided not to overthink it. But my husband just changed Arthur and came back to me to say the poo was like a slimey slug. I went to check it and I see there's a string of red which my husband didn't see. Here is the photo..so big blob of mucus and string of blood. What should I do?

Megan2018 · 09/12/2019 19:10

We had that, it was nothing to worry about. I mentioned it to GP and HV and they weren’t concerned. Irritated bum basically! Keep an eye on it but teeny amounts don’t men any issue. If he sucks his hands a lot the mucus will be from all the saliva

Horehound · 09/12/2019 19:17

I'll wait to see the next nappy I suppose. I guess he is also swallowing crap from his cold and he dies suck his hand Alot. It is a bug blob though..yuk!

He has also slept loads today and only on me. He's basically woken, fed, nappy change and cycle starts again. But much playing today.
Maybe the cold has just floored him

DustyDoorframes · 09/12/2019 19:46

Red blood is much less concerning than tarry black blood, as it likely just comes from a scratch at the exit rather than anything more sinister. But if you are worried listen to your gut and ring 111 (they are likely to ask you to go in as they don't take chances with babies though).
Are your nipples bleeding? That would turn up in a nappy too!

Horehound · 09/12/2019 20:19

No don't think nipples are bleeding. Ok that's good to know re. Red blood.

Dyra · 09/12/2019 22:02

@DustyDoorframes No fluids save the drip. I was retaining fluid though, thanks to the heat at the time and the pre-eclampsia. Otherwise, I'm 5'4", DH is 6'. Neither of us are even close to skinny. My Mum is down tomorrow. I'll see what she remembers of weight gain in my youngest sister. Iirc, she was pretty tiny as a baby and was the only one of us that was BF.

Agreed. Red blood is probably due to minor damage around the anus/rectum. Poor little guy. He must be so snotty for that much mucus. Get well soon! 🥰

DustyDoorframes · 09/12/2019 22:49

Hah @dyra I can remember nothing about dc2's weight gain, and that was only 3 years ago! Fingers crossed your mum has a better memory than I do!
But if the HV isn't worried then it seems pretty likely there is nothing to worry about.
My MA letter has finally come through (applied 11 weeks ago...). After making me send every payslip for a tiny tiny part time job I had briefly last year (I qualify fully from my self employed earnings and contributions, those payslips were not relevant) they have now given me a really low figure due to the delay in HMRC collecting my NI. Argh! At least I get a back payment for 11 weeks of the low figure, which is better than nothing while I get HMRC to sort it out...

kyles101 · 10/12/2019 05:48

It's apparently super common with a cold, but if you're worried do ring 111. You've deffo done the best thing by keeping photos to show too. I'd weigh again in the new year if you're concerned but don't worry overly about it. Easier said than done I know!

@DustyDoorframes omg they do your head in don't they. I truly don't understand how they can be so inept. It's like they go out of their way to employ the most incompetent people they can find.

How are all the little ones liking the Christmas trees and lights? Indie is obsessed with a flashing snowman we have.

Dyra · 10/12/2019 09:55

Still don't have mine up. 😔

Will enlist my dad to give me a hand getting it all down. I would do it myself, but:

  1. Need to move some furniture first.
  2. Scared of spiders, so getting the ladder out of the porch cupboard is a job that needs to be done by someone else.
  3. Don't want to leave Alice alone while I'm in the loft.
  4. Might be squirrels up there. Not scared of them, but want someone on hand for cuddles if they make me jump. Also to help assess any damage they may have done.
  5. All the newborn/0-3 stuff is going into the loft. Need help getting it up there and more cuddles for the sadness.
Megan2018 · 10/12/2019 10:22

No tree yet here, we need to get ours this week. Took Felicity to our local garden centre that has a fantastic Christmas shop and displays, she looked at them for 2 mins then fell asleep for the rest of the visit Grin but I hope she’ll like ours once up!

Horehound · 10/12/2019 10:35

Ours is up! Arthur seemed a little scared initially but now he loves the lights. He's really reaching out for stuff now and when I was showing him all the baubles he was reaching out to grab them hehe

Noooo too early!! I am a staunch traditionalist (or meanie...), our decs go up on Xmas eve and stay up til 12th night on the 6th jan. I get so grumpy when Christmas is over before even new year. Last year the Christmas radio stations were all closed down by the 27th December. That's when I want carols, not November! I might crack "early" once school breaks up...
The MA self employment thing isn't even incompetence, it's built into the system! At least they now explain it in the letter, and automatically refer it to HMRC to bill you early for your NI. with DCs one and two you had to ring up and query it and then ring HMRC yourself. Given that it now takes well over an hour on hold to speak to MA I'm v glad that's changed at least.

Horehound · 10/12/2019 12:27

I have a real tree so in getting my blooming money's worth Grin and I'm too busy drinking wine and watching Muppets Christmas carol on Xmas Eve so have to do it earlier hehe

God I'm a but worried about my money stuff. I wasn't entitled to SMO or the company maternity package at work cause I hadn't been there long enough. So I claimed MA which I'm getting but my work firstly paid me for a full month if August when it should have just been one week. Then Sep was full normal salary and then Oct and Nov have gone through as Smp and the company package..
I haven't told the company yet. Would HMRC contact work or would they contact me initially? Because I assume I'll either have to repay the MA or the SMP.
I've just banked all money so far..

Megan2018 · 10/12/2019 17:37

Real tree here too, got it today but not decorated yet. Ours stays up until twelfth night. I like to have it about a month but depends when we can get it, any longer and it looks tired though. Far too busy Xmas Eve to buy one, plus I bet all the good ones have gone and I write cards and wrap presents under the tree so would miss that.

Its nice how we all have our own traditions to pass on though. I always had a huge real tree even when I lived on my own in a teeny house-could only see the TV from one seat on one sofa Grin. One of the few things DH agree on is the tree.

DustyDoorframes · 10/12/2019 18:32

You are allowed to buy the tree on the 23rd. It does add an element of lottery to the size of tree you end up with! Our old flat was so small we could only fit a branch in a vase... we got a potted one last year which has made it through the summer so no lottery this year.
Yes, I love the traditions-passing-on getting lined up!

Dyra · 11/12/2019 00:08

Tree is up, but not decorated. Wednesday is the day I get stuff done, so it should be done by the end of today.

Also looking forward to creating our own Christmas traditions. This year and next year we'll be staying with family as we have done for the past few years. We figure Alice won't know, or care. But from 2021 we'll be celebrating as our own little family.

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 11/12/2019 08:04

Real tree here too, got it on the first. Love the smell and yes want monies worth!

Dyra · 11/12/2019 11:37

We used to get a real tree when I was a kid, but I will never get one for myself. Despite the amazing smell. Sad

A few years back, one of our family friends had woken up Christmas day to insects everywhere. Turns out their tree had been infested with some sort of beetle. They'd probably been hibernating, but when brought in from the cold, out they came.

Plus I'm far too lazy to hoover up dropped needles every day. 😝

Happy hump day! Hope all is well with the babas and your good selves.

db92 · 11/12/2019 11:55

@Dyra the same thing happened to us Confused the tree was infested with green aphids that came out in force once in the warm. It was horrible. We had to ditch the tree and get a fake. We were hoovering bugs from all rooms in our flat for weeks afterwards.

Megan2018 · 11/12/2019 12:22

We get ours direct from a farm that grows them, no needle drop and never had insects in the 41 years I’ve had a tree!
I am meant to be decorating it now but Felicity had her 12 week jabs yesterday, she slept all afternoon but today is hysterical unless on my chest Sad so not even managed breakfast yet
