Couldnt see a post natal group so have taken it upon myself to start one! Will obviously still keep up on antenatal also until babies have all arrived!

Shall we start a list of arrivals?

Ah i am glad they are being kind to you Grin the idea of newborn twins and a toddler sounds so chaotic to me! You seem quite chilled though and i have always been told relaxed mum = relaxed baby!

Hi all I was in need of a post-natal thread. Baby girl born 4th September.

decaf I am totally chilled compared to when I had my DS. Not sure if it's the difference in having a positive birth, the confidence knowing what to do 2nd time or whether they are just good babies. Maybe a combination of the three.

Oh, she weighed 7lbs 3oz. No idea where we are at now on day 10. Is it health visitor that checks?

We are currently all learning as we go. Every bottle is a bit of a puzzle.

She doesn't like being put down, especially in the cot, especially at night when it is cold. I can't hold her all night so I ended up co-sleeping a bit last night which felt like the most natural thing (sigh). Have now got a microwave heat pad to pre warm and snuzpod set up as open sided. Hoping the combo at least means she stays down some of the night as safely as we can.

Lavellan have you been discharged from the midwife? Here we get weighed on day 10 and discharged from midwife if no issues. I think hv then visits by day 14.

Yes I have been on day 10 but they didn't do a weigh in. Scotland though, might be why.

I had to ask for DD to be weighed at her 10 day appt, the midwife seemed slightly surprised I wanted her to be... (she was only diddy at birth) and que us not being discharged from midwife as she hadn’t reached birth weight. Weighing is again on Monday, which is bad planning as I’ve got both the health visitor and the midwife in the morning... probably both doing the same thing! Haha! DD will be 19 days old then. ... she’s deffo back at birth weight now, and I reckon will be around 6lb 1/2ish

The MWs weighed DS every time they came and didn't discharge us until we had reversed weight loss. Also in Scotland.

Had a much better night last night after starting ranitidine for reflux. But I've also realised that we barely put the baby down through the day, someone is nearly always holding him. So it's no wonder he's not keen on being plonked into a crib after every feed!

Report
Tefiti2 · 15/09/2019 00:22

Oh that’s great @Stroan! We have definitely noticed a difference since starting Gaviscon but what another bloody faff if BFing - is ranitidine easier to get into them?
DD has a posterior tongue tie which has just been found so that’s hopefully getting snipped on Wednesday, hoping her latch will improve and she will take on less air and be more content. These babies can be such a puzzle!

Report
Stroan · 15/09/2019 03:04

@tefiti2 yeah, so much easier. It's just a liquid and a teeny tiny syringe. No mixing or expressing required!

Poor DD, glad you have a diagnosis though. It can be hard to get one. I've wondered if DS had one as occasionally his tongue is slightly heart shaped and might explain his inconsistent latch. But everyone says he is fine and to be fair, it does look fine.

Hello, may I join and have some night-feed accompany?

DD was due 2nd September. I was induced 11 days early as there were concerns about a low birth weight. She was born on 22nd August at 5 pounds 8 ounces. We're up past 6 pounds 2 ounces now after losing 6% birth weight at her first weigh in so I'm super proud of her Smile

First time mum here so would be lovely to chat to other mums!

Hello and welcome @GarlicChickenKiev ! More nocturnal mums the merrier!! Well done on the weight gain. It's what we're working on at the minute. I don't think we're far off but not quite back there yet, he is 12 days today. We have hv coming on Monday so will find out then.

Yesterday and today we seem to have 3am wake and as yesterday was 6am for the second - I'm hoping for the same - 3 and 6 seems lovely and civilised.

Incidentally, we didn't get even close to birth weight to be signed off from mw, just a solid gain so on our way back up... how strange...

Well that is odd. I know she lost 9% in hospital, she got immediately put on a feeding schedule (which is where our bfing hit a wall) and the next day it was down to 6.7%. They couldn't believe it.

How do you know they have reflux issues? Is it spitting up? I think avalon is awful windy and that's why she hates being laid down. It's gas out both ends. Sad I hate to see her little legs and eyes all scrunched up working it out.

Welcome garlic!

Really hope dipsy and megan have had either well rested nights or one resulting in newborn snuggles!

@lavellan they probably aren't worried about weight because you had already reversed the initial loss if that makes sense? We went from 11.8% loss to 8% - they would only discharge us to the HV once it was less than 8%.

This is a good description of reflux - www.nhs.uk/conditions/reflux-in-babies/

For DD, she was epically sick after every feed. We would all end up drenched. Plus clearly in pain, back arching, refusing feeds and not gaining weight. The baby is sick, but not as much. His main issue is being so unsettled on his back and really bad hiccups.

Stroan · 15/09/2019 08:47

Posted too soon. If you think it's more wind, might be worth looking at the symptoms of colic too?

I appear to have the worlds hungriest baby. We're on formula now and she's having eight, sometimes nine 4oz bottles per day. Sometimes only has 3oz but sometimes only managing to make the gaps between feeds last 2 hours. Can't be put down during the day and evening at all but miraculously sleeps well between feeds overnight midnight til six. Dp back to work tomorrow so will need to be up at crack of dawn for a shower before he leaves and look the sling out or I will get absolutely nothing done.

Having had two previous babies who pretty much self settled and who could be put down awake and sleep anywhere I am no longer smug.

easter we are on 3-4 oz of formula although i have no clue how many per day i have well and truely lost track! Similar to you time wise as well 2-3 hourly although baby tends to so one longer chunk of sleep during the day where he goes a bit longer. Night time we have atleast one episode of taking up to two hours to resettle in the basket.
Last night took til 1230 from 11pm feed for me to get him down and asleep. He then woke at 2am and 4am but resettled quickly after feeds and then up again at 7ish

We are on day 8 here how about you easter?

@IVEgottheDECAF I have an app, it's the only way I can keep track of things because my brain is actually mince at the moment! She is weeks and two days so tiny bit older than babyDECAF. Shehad previously been doing a longer 4-5 hour stretch overnight which was bliss but I wonder if it's the first growth spurt.

Yesterday she had 4oz at 4pm, grumbled and couldn't be put down until I fed her again at 6.30, grumbled and couldn't be put down, woke up when put down. Fed again just after 9. Did an enormous poo during that bottle so had to bath her, she piddled on me as I was putting her in bath. She was lovely and calm in the bath so once I dressed her thought its nearly 10 may as well go up to bed and put her down and try and get a wee kip before next feed. Screaming and unsettled until well after 11 when she finally went down and slept til 1.30, then up for quick feed at 4.30. She's so much better overnight only really fussed if dummy comes out.

Today We've literally had to hold her all day she finally settled in basket just before 3 and is still sleeping now so I'm having a quick cuppa but sure it won't. It's not so bad with dp here as one of us can attempt to keep her happy while other does the chores. Weather has been shit as well so not been out a walk which doesn't help. Going to have to get in swing of going out regardless I think!

Easter decaf we are on 3.5oz every 3 hours day and night here. MW and HV have said to keep at 3 hours overnight as they are still so small. I can't wait for the day I can stop setting an alarm to wake them!
They are quite settled in the next to me, they snuggle into each other so I think that helps them. Alex is very grunty though and full of gas overnight no matter how much we wind him. I do wonder if he has silent reflux though.

@easterbuns1 you mentioned you use your sling? DD is too light at the moment for the baby carrier we got. Being in Scotland we received the baby box which contains a sling but there's no info regarding minimum weights. Do you mind me asking how much your little one weighs? I worry she's just too teeny for hers!
