Couldnt see a post natal group so have taken it upon myself to start one! Will obviously still keep up on antenatal also until babies have all arrived!

Shall we start a list of arrivals?

I'm annoyed my original redsbaby pram had a fantastic large bassinet that I deliberately researched thinking me and DH both tall. Well, the brake got stuck and we weren't happy with their replacement so we're sending it back and bought a cosatto. The bassinet only has about 20cm to spare already!

Horehound · 16/11/2019 21:20

Yeh our carrycot and Moses basket won't be used for much longer. Bit of a waste really. I use the sling a lot more. Glad I got a hand me down Moses basket from my aunt and uncle for free. Baby Gona have to use next 2me soon!

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 16/11/2019 21:30

lavellan which cosatto did you get?

Stroan · 16/11/2019 21:42

Our seat unit is recommended from 6m plus but DD went in it at about 4 months. She hated being flat. Hoping to keep it as a carrycot for as long as possible, making the most of the baby days! The last baby nostalgia is very real.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 16/11/2019 21:52

So true stroan!

Megan2018 · 16/11/2019 22:51

I don’t think there is any chance of us growing out of the icandy carrycot before she can sit up-it's 82cm long and she is about 56cm at 9 weeks.

Lavellan · 17/11/2019 11:19

We got the Wow Eden - with budgies on it. Way cute!!

Dyra · 17/11/2019 12:19

The babies are all getting so big now. T_T

Regarding nappies, Alice is in size 3 Aldis. We've bulk bought, so it's a race to see what happens first. Them running out, or her growing out of them.

Initially I wasn't a fan of the change from 2-3 (I miss the convenience of the stripe), but alas, her thighs are too chunky for size 2. Alice was sitting around the 25th centile for weight at 9 weeks old (last time she was weighed). No idea about length. Trust doesn't measure it. She had a small leak the first night she was in size 3, but since then, no leaks. Size 1 and 2 never leaked.

Other brands we've tried: Pampers are fine, just pricey, Sainsbury's gave her a mild rash, and Eco by Naty leaked every time.

I'm hoping Alice will last in the Moses basket until at least the new year. The whole advice of having your baby in the same room as you until 6 months due to SIDS risk has me worried. Alice might be small, but I don't think the basket is going to hold up all the way to early March.

Dyra · 17/11/2019 12:22

Stupid fat fingers...

Her carry cot should be fine. It's longer and slightly wider than the moses basket. While it is rated for overnight sleep, I wouldn't want her sleeping in it every night.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 13:34

We have a Wow too lavellan

Pampers size 3 still have the stripe. They work out reasonable on Amazon if you subscribe and save. My last delivery was £17 for 204, so 8p a nappy

Supermarkets are between 4 and 6p i think. But they all keep leaking for us. One of my dc had a really bad reaction to Aldi so i am steering clear of them

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 13:35

We have the cot in our bedroom dyra but obv not everyone has the space for that

BBell2 · 17/11/2019 20:55

For disposables, I'm finding Lidl better on my boy, Aldi worked best on my girl. They are a little more generous in the leg cuffs and softer. Still a size 1 despite a bit of a chunk for weight as he is long.

Bumdeal.co.uk is a nappy comparison site (think Amazon is excluded) but it's good if you want to check out a deal on Pampers or between two stores.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 21:09

My amazon pampers beat the best deal on that site thank god lol

Geegrl19 · 18/11/2019 08:31

Omg, your nappies are so cheap compared to here. The basic supermarket ones here that I use are the equivalent of 8p each for size 2. Premium brands are about 15p each! I don't use those, lol

Lavellan · 18/11/2019 09:52

@Dyra the advice about having them in your own room for SIDS confuses me a bit. I assume it's so you will check on them more because afaik you aren't going to hear suffocation in your sleep, so it's not like being near would help?

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 18/11/2019 10:12

There is some evidence to suggest them being able to hear you even if just your breathing can prevent SID

DustyDoorframes · 18/11/2019 15:11

@Lavellan one of the ways that SIDS happens is that the sleeping baby sort of forgets to breathe, in a deep sleep. Being near an adult who is also sleeping (or awake!) allows the baby to "tune in" to the adult's breathing pattern and follow that, so is less likely to forget. That's why a lot of SIDS advice contrasts with advice about helping babies sleep, because sleeping too deeply makes them more likely to forget to breathe. The risks are tiny though, and need weighing up for each individual family. Being so sleep deprived that you accidentally put the baby in the fridge has its own set of risks!

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 18/11/2019 15:53

They also say if baby has a dummy this can reduce the risk

Megan2018 · 18/11/2019 16:11

The evidence for dummies is limited and what I’ve read so far the dummy use has to be consistent- so used for all naps and sleeps, not just random/occasional.
I’ve got a pathological hatred of them so desperately trying to avoid using (so instead she uses me!) but I may give in at some point.

Lavellan · 18/11/2019 20:54

Oh wow thats so interesting. I initially had her in her cot at the end of the bed but since she started sleeping a bit longer and quiter, I've moved the snuzpod to bedside setup. I couldn't deal with the sleeplessness at first but now it's nice to have her closer. Mind you, she'd hear my husband's snores from wherever!

KnobJockey · 19/11/2019 07:09

We are definitely dummy users in this house! More for the help of not snacking when tired than possibly reducing Sid's, although obviously it's quite a bonus. To be honest, I think that the chance of SIDS is that low, that as long as you are trying to mitigate the more obvious risks- overheating and suffocation- then they make a negligible amount of difference. Most of the potential things to help aren't proven in any way, they've just seen a possible decrease when the factors are followed. So with that in mind, I'm still swaddling with a thin material (not recommended here), co sleeping, I'm trying naps in her own room this week. Stuff that makes a positive difference to her sleeping.

KnobJockey · 19/11/2019 07:12

Oh, and what I learned on another thread is that it's not hearing an adults breathing pattern that helps remind them, it's the expelled carbon dioxide in the air from our breath that does. How fascinating is that?!

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 19/11/2019 07:30

Dummy users here too.

All of mine have had a dummy at some point from dc3 who used one now and then until 4 months when she lost interest to dc4 who at age 3 is still too attached to his ....

Stroan · 19/11/2019 10:09

Happy to use a dummy here but DS isn't bothered. He occasionally takes it and spits it out almost as soon as he is asleep. I'm happy with that as DD was an addict and I spent all night digging round her cot for spare dummies every time she lost it.

I have a leaky boobs problem. DS is going from about 10pm until 4-5am just now. I'm waking up drenched. TMI, sorry. Last night I was wearing a bra, disposable breast pads, reusable breast pads, a top and sleeping on a towel. It still got through to the mattress protector. I'm bored of washing sheets, but not sure what else to do other than setting an alarm and waking him up?

Dyra · 19/11/2019 10:42

Alice seems to be of the firm belief that if it doesn't produce milk or it's not her fist, it's getting spit straight back out. Made trying to give her Calpol for her post vaccination fever very tough. I mean. Who doesn't love Calpol? I still love Calpol!

No way is her cot ever going to fit in my bedroom. I guess that when the time eventually comes, if I'm freaking out, I can camp in her room. It should only be a matter of weeks by that point until she reaches the magic 6 month mark.
