Couldnt see a post natal group so have taken it upon myself to start one! Will obviously still keep up on antenatal also until babies have all arrived!

Shall we start a list of arrivals?

I didn't even think of books! I'm a complete book worm so agree there can never be too many on the house.

@Horehound DS does the same when he has wind. Like @Stroan said, we've found him wriggling and putting pressure on his tummy is his way of trying to relieve it.

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 11/11/2019 14:20

I'm still waiting on Maternity Allowance! Anyone who has done so know how I can chase it? Don't know if I'm being stupid but I can't see a contact number or email address online!

Horehound · 12/11/2019 00:04

@Littlehouseinthebigcity they are taking 14 weeks to process at the moment. Don't bother calling because you'll be on hold for at least an hour before getting through and being told what I just told you!

Horehound · 12/11/2019 00:17

I'm losing the will to live. Dad will not sleep in his next 2me. Each night is the same bollocks of him feeding, being really acidy, needing to be held and walked around until he sleeps. Then we put him down and he wakes up, feeds and falls asleep on me and I just slide him into bed with us otherwise he wakes up again..

Fuuckkkk sakkkeeeee help me

Horehound · 12/11/2019 00:17

Dad?! Yikes ds obvs

kyles101 · 12/11/2019 00:49

@Horehound bless you. Have you been to drs? Sorry, brain but engaged enough to remember. Could you just embrace safe co sleeping for sanity's sake?

My ever so predictable ds is awake to be fed at this time for some reason 🤷‍♀️ was ever so shocked when I saw what the time was!!

Littlehouseinthebigcity · 12/11/2019 02:41

@Horehound That is crazy! Luckily we're managing for now but it's pretty tight and there will be people who were absolutely relying on that money. When you do hear, is it by letter?
Sorry to fear DS is being tricky, DD is currently struggling to be put down too but that's due to a bad cold rather than reflux so hopefully will pass. It's a killer atm though, we're not set up to co-sleep so I just sit in bed holding her, wishing I was asleep 🙈
@kyles101- impressed lo is normally predictable!! I never know when Dd will wake!

Geegrl19 · 12/11/2019 02:50

@Horehound That sounds exhausting, you poor thing. I second what @kyles101 says and to co sleep. Not ideal, but you have to do something that works for you and at least lets you get a little sleep otherwise it is debilitating. Has he had a diagnosis of anything from the docs which he has meds for?

I on the other hand have the opposite issue. Nate sleeps at night (don't hate me) but is a chronic 20 minute only cap napper in the day. He is quite the misery all day long, it has been draining and I count down the hours to bed time. He can obviously get back to sleep as he does at night, but refuses to during the day. Won't sleep on the move either in the car or stroller for long either. Sigh. These pesky babies!

Horehound · 12/11/2019 05:36

@kyles101 yeh that's what we end up doing, co sleeping. And he is actually a good sleeper when in bed with us. I've had two nights where he's slept 12 hours straight. Tonight he's slept from 12 until 05.00 he's had a 10min feed and has fallen asleep again.
Napping is on and off but he does go to sleep I his Moses basket fine! That's what I'm using for day naps but he's growing quickly and will soon be too big for it!
I'm just so fed up of the night time crap and I don't understand why it's at bedtime that he's soooo acidy. Like extra acidy more than after a day feed. I'm just immediately getting annoyed at it knowing he just fed, was asleep in our arms but wakes up, super acidy and fussy and needs another feed to get him to sleep. I'm worried about sleep association too and how I feel this is going to cause problems trying to get him down forever! Haven't been to drs but I think I'll be calling them today. I hate stinking of aciidy sick too. It's a wee shame to Arthur but it's so frustrating.

@Littlehouseinthebigcity I know, it's so bad. I said to my husband imagine if we didn't have his wage coming in. Or if I was a single parent..I'd be stuffed! I do t know why it's taking so long but the women said they were taking on more people to get them caught up again. Yes, they send a letter to let you know. Just wait for that to come through. Otherwise if you do really need the money then call them up but it is a long wait on the shitty hold music!

@Geegrl19 no no meds or drs but I'll call them today. Maybe he can get an antacid? I remember the HV saying sometimes with that you cute one problem and another one appears like the antacid can make him constipated or the opposite! But I think I'd rather try it than go through this rigmarole every night.
Like the advice for a tilt on the cot is laughable. Having him in a tilt makes zero difference..he can puke vertically...
Re. Nate sleep: can you try him for a nap earlier than you normally would? I find if I miss the boat with Arthur I'm stuffed but if I get it right he has a good hour to two hour naps a couple times in the day.
Also another thing is Arthur falls asleep if he is in a sling..do you have one to try? At least that way you can go about your day getting on with stuff.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 12/11/2019 06:24

Going back a good few weeks now but i got maternity allowance. I kept phoning and phoning and making a nuissance of myself Blush i do think mine came through before someone else's on here and they had been recieved on the same day Blush

Stroan · 12/11/2019 09:37

@horehound good luck with the doctors. There's a range of things he could have, they normally start with baby gaviscon. It can cause constipation plus you have to mix it with milk so it's a PITA for a BF baby. Then there is ranitidine (DS is on this and apart from the puke is very settled now, it has a cumulative effect and he is much happier now - no obvious signs of any pain at all). If that doesn't work, there's Omeprazole. Some doctors can be reluctant unless the baby isn't gaining weight well, first time round I needed my HV to help me get meds. This time, they just took my word for it and asked what I wanted.

On the sleep associations thing, don't worry. Just do whatever you have to now to make things bearable. DD co-slept and was cuddled to sleep every night until she was 10 months then started going in a cot no problem, she's self settled herself ever since and sleeps well.

DustyDoorframes · 12/11/2019 10:02

@Geegrl19 I was going to say sling too- it's magic with mine, to the point that I have to remember to pull her out if she hasn't eaten for ages...
@Horehound absolutely second what Stroan said, really don't worry about sleep associations, give him what he needs and it will sort itself out. You are doing brilliantly!
Blimey 14 weeks for MA now?!? I only got my form in the day before giving birth. I thought I'd get it in time fire Xmas, but sounds like I won't...

Horehound · 13/11/2019 21:51

Ok so got gaviscon from the doctors. Jeez it seems like a real faff..
So we should be giving him 2 sachets a time but this means 30mls of liquid...it looks loads! Like sometimes he just eats a little amount so if he has the gaviscon he will surely just feel full?
He cried the whole time we tried to give it to him so I don't know what's best really. He cries when we try to give it to him or he cries if we don't because he has acid Confused and I'm not even sure it is the acid which is the reason he cries. I just don't know!!

Stroan · 13/11/2019 22:04

2 sachets is a lot. You could start with one and see if it helps at all?

For DD, we either mixed it into a full bottle (she was combi fed) or with less milk than recommended just to get it into her. For DS, I gave him it for one day and then asked for Ranitidine. He was in so much pain with constipation and it was far too much of a faff for no benefit.

Horehound · 13/11/2019 22:23

Yeh we thought that but decided to go with instructions. I just googled how you give it and there's as couple of threads on MN about mixing it with EBM. Might try that. He just also isn't god taking from a bottle now! God remember when he was one and two weeks old and that's all he took and I pushed to breastfeed! Arghh

Geegrl19 · 14/11/2019 07:22

@DustyDoorframes @Horehound will have to give my sling another go. Always feel so cack handed with carriers. At least it would free my hands up. I get paranoid they're going to suffocate in them too.

Gosh, the gaviscon sounds like a faff. Why is nothing simple! Hope you're managing to get it into him a bit and it's helping.

cinderfeckinrella · 14/11/2019 08:03

@Geegrl19 I was always awful with slings and carriers too but I've managed to use the baby bjorn now and is so handy, plus I'm in Scotland so keeps us both warm.

cinderfeckinrella · 14/11/2019 08:15

Not that you'd worry about the cold coming up for Summer in Aus.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 14/11/2019 08:18

Me and baby are also not great with sling / carrier! But planning to use it more over christmas as saves me lugging pram around at school events/in snow etc

DustyDoorframes · 14/11/2019 08:47

With slings it really helps to try a few. There may be a sling library near you where you can have a go on several and rent one/some for a few weeks. It's like bras, there's no one perfect one for everybody! I think there are a few postal sling libraries too, but I'm not sure. We rented 3-4 before finding the perfect one for both me and DP (a solarweave connecta, for the record, though using a soft stretchy wrap at the moment as DD is still tiddly).
@Geegrl19 do you know the TICKS guidelines? They might help put your mind to rest-
babyslingsafety.co.uk/ticks.pdf

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 14/11/2019 09:08

BabyDECAF is anything but tiddly! At his 8 week appointment he was near 14lb, now nearly 10 weeks. Already in some 3-6 clothes and outgrown moses basket!

DustyDoorframes · 14/11/2019 10:40

Aaah but in the scheme of things, decaf! The stretchy wraps are brilliant for the first six months or so, or even the first year- babies not toddlers. Even chunky babes!
(She'd be fine in the connecta but I'm enjoying the snugglyness for now...)

Horehound · 14/11/2019 10:42

Ok so we managed to give him a small amount of gaviscon and he wasn't sick! Yay I think I'm Gona try using a syringe next time rather than a spoon.
And he did sleep in his next2me for 5 hours so that's good

My next issue is I'm not sure about the settings to use on the reusable nappies. For the majority they've been ok but sometimes a little leak out the bottom of the leg. But if I do any tighter it will be too tight I think Confused

Fortheloveofscience · 14/11/2019 11:07

Hi everyone! Not checked in for ages, lost thread but saw it popped up in active and thought I’d drop in. Had a quick catch up the last few pages and loving the ideas for Christmas presents!

Re slings, I’ve found our local sling library a godsend I was previously convinced I wanted a stretchy wrap but despite miniScience being diddy both that and the close caboo have killed my back/shoulders if she’s in it for longer than half an hour, last week we borrowed an ergobaby now she’s slightly bigger and are loving it!

Managed somehow to book my 6 week HV visit and then 6 week GP check on the same afternoon so trying to be super-organised this morning, not sure what I was thinking.

BBell2 · 14/11/2019 11:21

@horehound we started on the gaviscon yesterday for the same reason - projectile puking! I took photos of Jasper (plus the walls, floor, chair, cots etc) covered in vomit. Hes not uncomfy particularly but endless hiccups, grunting and rattly all night and I'm endlessly feeding.
Found the gaviscon so difficult yesterday, it's too much liquid, jasper took a syringe well but its three full ones...for a babe that's only ever had 1ml of gripe water. Still.puked his night feeds and we were up 2 hours cleaning and referring and holding up.
I'm giving it a week!
