I think survival has to be our priority at this point
Anyone know if there's a limit to how long you're supposed to leave them in one of those swing things? I'm sure baby Sputnik is well past it.

andiem · 02/08/2007 16:14

thanks for all the support ladies I worried afterwards that I was a bit ott but when you read all the stories about dogs and babies I was terrified.

Jabs wise professionally one of my arms so to speak is paediatric pain management so what I would do is bf whilst jabs being done will help for 1st jab probably not as much for 2nd as probably crying from 1st one. If FF and use dummy then put dummy in there is very good evidence that sucking reduces the intensity of the pain response. Afterwards I would always give paracetamol. Sorry lecture over

Hi cakehead welcome to the thread

bumperlicious · 02/08/2007 17:23

Hi cakehead, can you put LO in a sling, puts my DD to sleep within minutes and leaves you relatively hands free! Sorry you feel alone - as you can see most of us abandon our poor DCs to spend the day on here!

Hi BZ, long time no see. Glad you are doing ok

Good advice andiem, guess that would mean that I have to take DD in myself Urgh, I can't stand even seeing injections.

Really in awe of all of you with more than one! In fact in awe of all of you really, this motherhood business is hard work, especially on our own during the day. If I'm not around much over the next few days it's because we are going away for a few days. My mum' friend has a large empty house for a while so we are going to get some respite from our water situation. It's much better but stick can't drink the tap water or cook or wash LO etc. Really it's just an excuse to go and stay in a big posh town house and feel rich for a weekend! And have my mum do my washing bless her!

annobal · 02/08/2007 18:26

Bumper, that sounds lovely! Have a nice time.

DSs fed, bathed and in pyjamas watching in the night garden ready for bed. DS3 feeding and will soon be in bed....

I think it's almost wine o'clock

sputnik · 02/08/2007 18:33

Saw thtat Night Garden thing last time I was in the UK, would drive anyone to drink I shouold think.

annobal · 02/08/2007 18:41

justbeme · 02/08/2007 19:07

sorry 1 handed typing

loonylovegood · 02/08/2007 19:12

Evening everyone, hope you've all had good days!

We are huge in the night garden fans here! Went to Toys R Us yesterday and dd now has a makka pakka toy, he is lovely, I love him! I bought her a jigsaw as well and told her she could only have it if she had a wee on her potty! It took til this afternoon, but she did it. It was a very hard 24 hours! Since then she has weed in her high chair and on the floor. May have to resort to bribes again, no-one told me potty training was going to be this expensive!

JBM my william is quite a sleepy baby and does tend to sleep most of the time, which is nice! He was more sleepy a couple of weeks ago though, I suppose it ties in with growth spurts.

justbeme · 02/08/2007 19:20

makka pakka - wots that

i just keep worrying that if she sleeps too much im gonna have one of those awful nights when she screams - and daytime i just cant wake her even if i try.

loonylovegood · 02/08/2007 19:23

This is makka pakka!! You will know all about him in a year or so!

OP posts:
justbeme · 02/08/2007 19:30

i know im out of touch - it was teletubbies when my dd1 was small!!

justbeme · 02/08/2007 19:32

did u get a car sorted holly

sputnik · 02/08/2007 21:25

Holly, we bribed DD into using the potty with chocolate at first, then stars she could stick on the potty, they are pretty cool metalic stars though, all different and she chooses each one. Seemed to work pretty well. The 1st wee merited a new book.

sputnik · 02/08/2007 21:28

JBM, I bf lying down a lot, same position as you. I guess you could also do it on your back with the baby on top, but I don't like lying on my back that much, so never tried it.

vole3 · 02/08/2007 22:23

Re taking LO for jabs.
Would it be better to give calpol about an hour beforehand so as to pre-empt the painful bit? At least it would already be in the system and you would not have to wait for it to take effect.

BadZelda · 03/08/2007 09:24

At the risk of sounding heartless, newborns don't have any memory so won't actually remember the jabs for more than a few minutes? You're the only one that will suffer unfortunately - but it's for their own good! ...I always found feeding whilst they do them helped a lot...

trendaverter · 03/08/2007 10:04

Am with you BZ, I am heartless too.
I figure that I don't remember mine...

But then I freely admit I am a bad parent.

Seansgirl · 03/08/2007 12:04

Hi sorry haven't been around I haven't dropped off the face of the earth! Just trying to cope with a particularly (compared to his sister) unsettled baby - who seems to be grumpy all the time!
Will try and come back later for a chat but have to try and get orgnaised later today ready for a day trip on the canal tomorrow for my mums birthday.Sounds nice but I have to say I view this with trepidation as not sure how LO will be

I have a question for Derlor (or anyone else that knows the answer) is it essential to have the first immunistaion bang on the day or as I want to put it off until approx 9.5 weeks is it a problem??

sputnik · 03/08/2007 12:50

Hi Seansgirl, good to see you around. Sorry to hear your DS is fussy, hopefully things will get better soon. Mine is fairly good, it was DD that was more of a fusspot, so other way round.
Derlor is on holiday ATM, not sure when she's back, maybe someone else can tell you. I know that here they wait longer to start vaccinations, can't rememer how long though, maybe 3 months.

NattyThomasandEllen · 03/08/2007 13:04

oh deffo coming to the meetup.. easy to get there for me to.. one bus i think from croydon

must get around to having ellen weighed as its been a few weeks now.. where did i put her red book?
does anyone elses house resemble a dump site? or am i the only one finding absoulty NO time for cleaning?

NattyThomasandEllen · 03/08/2007 13:13

seans girls i missed ellens appoint cos i completly forgot. they just made another one.. she wont have jabs till nearly 11 weeks now. so i would think its ok, else they would have given me a priority appointment

trendaverter · 03/08/2007 15:29

Just spent £150 on play gyms etc as LO seems to be bored and therefore grizzly and fussy.

However he is scared shitless of everything and instead of grizzling, he now just SCREAMS.

foxybrown · 03/08/2007 16:04

£150? What did you buy??

Other than that, how are you?

trendaverter · 03/08/2007 16:45

I bought a play gym, a thingy that hangs over the car seat/travel cot with things hanging off it, a cloth book thing to put in his cot and some additional hangy things.
As you can tell I am well versed in the names of childrens toys

Admittedly that £150 also included a cheap changing table as I am sick of having lost my dining room table to the cause (and I can't do it on the floor, the dog would LOVE that!) and a pack of vests, but mostly it was toys!

I am well! Tired and frazzled thanks to a screamy baby that won't shut up (although only during/after feeding? Why!? He has been burped! Odd child).
But my mum rescued me from myself and I am good. How are you?
