bubbly I'd add some cheap flannels for cleaning up, we've got IKEA ones. And a few small pots or lidded bowls for storage/leftovers or when taking stuff out with you.

We've got these from DC1 so are 2.5 years old, used every day and still in good condition to reuse for dc2. IKEA children's plates are good too once baby is older and having proper meals. You really don't need much stuff, we used to just take a banana and a spoon out with us for the day when DC1 was little!

bubblybrit · 04/08/2019 12:28

Thank you @Sunday38. Hadn’t even thought of lidded pots to transport food. Doh! Will definitely need flannels as Anna is messy with her milk never mind solids!

lanalawr · 04/08/2019 13:35

I agree with @Sunday38 - plenty of flannels. Also lots of dettol for wiping the table/high chair, floor, walls, table legs,... There was a lot of clearing up after each meal with dd! For taking food out and about we used little tubs by sistema. Now they're used to freeze food for the toddler or to take fruit/veg sticks for picnics.

Celebelly · 04/08/2019 13:42

We have some Bibados and they are amazing! We have four that we rotate and very rarely need to clean tray or chair (and dog gets anything that falls on floor Grin). They are expensive though but it's been worth it for the time saved, and means only baby E's hands and face get grubby.

Definitely lots of flannels. We use reusable wipes anyway but had to triple our stocks when we started weaning! They're also much better for the poops, which are now horrific and smell like actual poop Envy (not envy)

Hahaha there's been an improvement in poos here since weaning! It could hardly have got any worse though Grin Thankfully he's got the hang of spoon feeding now and is really into coconut yoghurt and veg sticks. Appetite is massive at the moment, 9oz bottles 4/5 times a day and small amounts of solids so I think he's catching up!

moonlight1705 · 04/08/2019 14:48

We are trying a bit of both BLW and spoons but DD doesn't seem to be getting the idea of whole foods, just spits it out. Quite enjoys the puree though.

I'm guessing that will slowly change?

detachablehoof · 04/08/2019 22:16

Yesterday I made my own purees for the first time ever and froze them in ice cube trays - a tray each of parsnip, apple and carrot. I feel so adult 😂

Can anyone recommend any good resources for weaning recipes / portion sizes / ideas of food to try? I'm not doing BLW but do need to progress from the super smooth purees at some point! At the moment she's having porridge morning and evening, and puree for lunch and dinner.

Char20499 · 04/08/2019 22:21

Try the good food app on the App Store or just there website, they have kids of different weaning recipes for purées and solid food, great ideas for new foods to try too

Char20499 · 04/08/2019 22:22

Meant to say loads of different not kids

detachablehoof · 05/08/2019 12:59

Thank you!

detachable to move on from purees start making it less smooth so do lumpy mashed veg or with DC1 I added small amounts of cooked rice to add texture and gradually increased how much rice I added. Or red lentils are great because they cook down very soft. I was given a weaning book but ended up only making a few things out of it to stash in the freezer for when we were having something which wasn't suitable for babies, these are things I can remember
Cauliflower and broccoli cheese
Red lentil and veg
Fish pie
Cottage/shepherd's pie

DC1 often would have omelette for lunch or a banana/avocado mash with toast. And tea would be a few cubes of mashed veg with whatever carbs we were having mixed in eg rice, couscous.

Small pasta shapes are good too, I think mine were sold as soup pasta in Sainsbury's and I made him a basic tomato pasta sauce with finely chopped onion, carrot, garlic, herbs and tinned tomatoes.

I wouldn't worry about being repetitive with meals at the moment, milk is still the main source of nutrition and weaning is just extra. You don't have to go all Annabel Karmel and start making chicken balls and special kiddy food (unless you want to!) keep it simple and adapt what you are having Grin

mummymummymummummum · 05/08/2019 21:15

Cous cous is brilliant for adding a little texture.

bubblybrit · 06/08/2019 09:03

Thanks @lanalawr and @Celebelly. I’ve made a list and plan to go shopping at the weekend!

bubblybrit · 06/08/2019 09:10

Just wondering if any of you ladies use video monitors? If so then can you provide any recommendations as there are so many to choose from! We currently have an angel care sound monitor but I’d much rather have a video monitor now DD is sleeping more during the day. Thanks x

Yakadee · 06/08/2019 09:31

@bubblybrit - we have a separate camera so can't exactly recommend. However, I love having both x

I think I’d feel a lot better with the video monitor @Yakadee. I’m checking on her every 10-15 mins even with the sound monitor but think it’s disturbing her sleep!

Yakadee · 06/08/2019 13:29

@bubblybrit - it'll change your life! I still have one in my 3yo's room! Saves me having to go in to every little thing. Curiosity used to kill me! X

detachablehoof · 06/08/2019 13:40

I have the BT 5000 video monitor and like it :)

Nice big screen, remote panning, good sound quality. Range is fine (we have a big house).

bubblybrit · 06/08/2019 14:01

@Yakadee. I definitely need to get one as I worry about her being in her room whilst napping. I’ve constantly got the sound monitor to my ear but obviously I wouldn’t know if she rolled over etc so constantly go to check on her. I’m sure she senses me as she always stirs no matter how quiet I am!

@detachablehoof. Is the picture quality good? I seem obsessed about going to check on her to make sure she is still breathing! Does the camera pick that up if you zoom in?

detachablehoof · 06/08/2019 14:05

Daylight picture quality is brilliant, night time not so (but probably as good as you can get with infrared?). I can see if her eyes are open and if she's breathing heavily, I can see her chest moving up and down.

Have you looked at the clip on breathing monitors? I was thinking of getting the Snuza. (but decided that it would only feed my anxiety, hence went with video only!)

bubblybrit · 06/08/2019 14:07

Oh great thanks @detachablehoof. I was looking at a few options that have the sensory pad but some of the reviews haven’t been great for the cost.
