@Since2016. Yes I tried a glass. Rash disappears when glass is run over it x

sunday38 · 12/06/2019 12:55

bubbly any illnesses recently? Could be post viral rash but I'd get it checked with GP/nurse or perhaps pharmacist if you have a good one. DS1 had a very dramatic post viral rash once after a very minor illness

bubblybrit · 12/06/2019 14:07

@sunday38. No she has been absolutely fine. The HV is due tomorrow so I’ll get her to take a look. The rash seems to have settled a little from this morning x

Yakadee · 12/06/2019 14:14

I was going to suggest viral rash too. I'm sure if she's well in herself it won't be anything to worry about. Best to check to checked tomorrow though x

mummymummymummummum · 12/06/2019 14:48

My eldest had one like that. Doctor said it was likely viral. She hadn't been ill or anything. It cleared up in a couple of days.

bubblybrit · 12/06/2019 15:59

Thanks ladies. We were out today at our local garden centre and arrived home around 3.30. Changed her nappy and the rash is gone? Completely clueless but will show pictures to health visitor tomorrow x

detachablehoof · 14/06/2019 22:35

Bought an antilop highchair today and baby seems to like it!
Where to start with weaning?! My friend started doing baby rice before bedtime but do you do it before or after bottle? I don't want her to have less milk! Is this the sort of thing I can ask HV? She hasn't been since 8 weeks and I'm not sure when she's next planning to come!

babyp160 · 15/06/2019 06:11

@detachablehoof I did a weaning course at local children's Centre. It was actually very interesting. Really surprised me if you have a place that does them.

Basically studies have shown how bad all the baby branded bits are inc baby rice as in high in sugar and salt. It's all been looked into more as a baby died with a meal that was too high in salt their organs couldn't handle it. They recommend pure vegetables to start now rather than the baby rice etc. I didn't know this until recent.

They also say to start with the meals as breakfast on the first week only as it may unsettle their stomachs just before bed. Week 2 breakfast and lunch week 3 all 3 meals and from then on they can eat all you eat. Making sure low salt stock cubes etc are used.

Even baby branded biscuits are very high in sugar compared to your average digestive/nice biscuit which they suggested to give instead. Much to my husbands dismay as he has been waiting to get his hands on rusks since we found out we were pregnant 🤣

I've weaned children for years having worked with the darlings for 16 years so really learnt a lot on their recent findings.
I'm sure it'll change as it always does 🙈

maxiflump1 · 15/06/2019 08:10

@detachablehoof we've just started weaning this week for my monster 19 week old! We have started on the Ella's kitchen banana baby rice which has no added sugar or salt. After a couple of days getting him used to it we will add some purée to it. We will then phase out the baby rice and move onto veg and fruit purées. Once he has got the hang of having food in his mouth we will start doing a bit of BLW (about 7 months) with some banana, cucumber, bread etc.

This was how we weaned DS1 and he's a great non fussy eater so hoping this one is too! I agree about the baby branded biscuits/rusks a they are loaded in sugar. We will give a digestive instead! I know a lot of people hate weaning but I quite enjoyed it last time (except for the mess!). Hoping this ones as easy!

maxiflump1 · 15/06/2019 08:11

Oh and at the moment we give him his baby rice when we have our tea at about 6. He's doesn't really eat much and still takes his full bedtime bottle at 8.

detachablehoof · 15/06/2019 10:17

Thanks @maxiflump1 and @babyp160 that's super helpful. I'll look into a weaning course!

Yakadee · 15/06/2019 12:01

I'm dreading weaning to be honest. Although Emma seems totally satisfied with milk so not in a rush. Didn't wean my son much before he was 6 months, maybe a week or so. We did blw and did like it but we had an incident (won't go into details as don't want to worry anyone) and it's totally made me paranoid about food. Might try purees with Emma? I'll see nearer the time x

Celebelly · 15/06/2019 12:06

I'm guessing it was choking? I'm a bit terrified of finger foods and choking Sad Won't be weaning Emma till six months as she's quite happy with milk for now and in no rush to start it all. I think we will do purées to begin with and see how we go and how she gets on.

You should get a weaning session from HV. We got one and various handouts at our 26-week jabs (nurse does some of the HV stuff where we are) including meal planners and recipes etc.

16-week*!

Yakadee · 15/06/2019 14:19

@Celebelly - unfortunately so. Was dreadful but I'll leave it at that (still feel sick about it and it was over 2 years ago!).

I did go on a first aid course and would highly recommend it. We went with my mum and Mil as they were going to be looking after my son when I went back to work and it made me feel much better about leaving him. X

Babynum2 · 15/06/2019 16:36

Hello ladies I haven't posted in a while I am the lady who had early baby in Jan. I'm having a bit of a panic attack not sure how I feel as have just took a test and I am pregnant! Just posting on here in hope that anyone may have been in same boat ever??

Celebelly · 15/06/2019 16:59

Oh wow @Babynum2 ! I'm guessing unplanned? Can't help with shared experience as it would be an immaculate bloody conception of late 😂 but hope you are OK x

maxiflump1 · 15/06/2019 18:26

Hi @Babynum2. That must have been quite a shock! Have you only got the one child so far? I think there are lots of advantages to having children close together. There's a 4 year old gap between mine and I kinda wish I'd got all the nappy changes and sleepless nights in one go as you do forget!! What does you other half think?

Babynum2 · 15/06/2019 19:13

@maxiflump1 I have a 5 turning 6 year old and then new baby is 5 months and if iv worked it out correctly new baby would be due Feb just like my LO was but came early Jan instead!! No doubt this baby would be early too as both mine was meaning a year gap! I'm just in shock I was breastfeeding and I just stopped to wean baby and have been doctors to start the pill and they told me to wait for period...period didn't come so took a test and it was positive ahhhh

Yakadee · 15/06/2019 22:18

@Babynum2 - congratulations and what a shock! Can't say it's happened to me but I do know a few people that it has happened to. They said the close gap was great and worked out really well. There's nearly 3 years between my two. I hope you're OK x

babyp160 · 15/06/2019 22:32

@Babynum2 congratulations. Everyone keeps trying to encourage me to have close
together ages.

What does your OH think?

Lookingforadvice123 · 17/06/2019 09:36

Those who are FF, how many ounces are your babies having? DS2 is greedy!!! In the day time he's started going only about 2 hours between a few of his bottles, and he has 8oz sometimes! So typically at the minute he's having:

7am - 7oz
10am - 8oz
12-12:30pm - 8oz
3:30pm - 4pm - 7oz
7pm ish - 7-8oz

I can try and drag him out longer if we're out, but the lunchtime bottle especially he SCREAMS for it. Like he's being murdered. Even though he's only had 8oz 2-2.5 hours beforehand. He sleeps all night so I guess he needs to "cram" more milk into fewer hours, but it seems excessive. Haven't actually had him weighed in ages (must do!) but although I think he's on the big side, he's not "chubby" at all.

bubblybrit · 17/06/2019 11:24

@Lookingforadvice123. My LO is almost 18 weeks and takes the following:

6am - 5 to 6oz
9.30-10am - 5oz
1-1.30pm - 5 to 6oz
4.30 - 5pm - 5 to 6oz
8pm - 5 to 6oz

She sometimes has even less at the moment but she is teething so struggling to feed!

All babies are different though so I’m guessing if your LOs weight is of no concern then it must be ‘normal’ for him!

detachablehoof · 17/06/2019 15:36

My little girl has five bottles a day, usually between 5 and 6 oz. Although recently she's decided to have an extra bottle during the night 🙄

As I'm under the care of a MH hospital for PND there is a nursery nurse who I have been speaking to about sleep etc. My little girl used to be very good when she was around 8 weeks (sleeping 12 hours with just one feed at 5ish) but unfortunately isn't very good any more (needs dummy putting in lots of times and two bottles per night). She said she probably is waking up hungry and maybe I should start weaning soon. She said to wait til 20 weeks if I can as they don't recommend it earlier than that. She also said most babies start weaning before 6 months as they are getting hungry. Sooo in a couple of weeks I'm going to try some baby porridge in the afternoon / evening to see if that helps our sleep. @Lookingforadvice123 I realise early weaning isn't for everyone but if I was you I'd definitely be trying it!
