A new thread for us all

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Olihan · 28/07/2007 17:25

WB, forgot to say congratulations for the sleeping. Was too awed by the amazing dd1!!

GodzillasBumcheek · 29/07/2007 08:23

Congrats to WB and others on your babies' achievements...i suspect we may spend alot of time congratulating each other for a while, as iisn't this the most intensive gross motor skills learning phase??

GodzillasBumcheek · 29/07/2007 08:50

Was thinking...in a short space of time lo has learned to:

*Sit up unaided (although still needs me to sit her up, and needs watching closely)
*Commando crawl (although can't be bothered usually!)
*Roll anywhere in the room and turn on the spot (that's why she doesn't crawl i guess)
*pass objects hand to hand and to mouth (and then throw backwards across the room )
*Eat solids (although still only tiny lumps and no finger foods)
*make b d t g f sounds, squeal, growl and shout

Omg! If i learned such major things at this rate i would be actually classed as intelligent

Elibean · 29/07/2007 09:46

OMG, all this talk of walking.....SHHHH! Don't let dd2 hear

So far, she's still at the rolling/sitting/desperately trying to crawl stage. Though her arms are like orangutans' (sorry, dd) and can reach just about anything without bothering to crawl..

We have made progress with solids, and dd is very definitely a BLW baby - by her choice, I might add, not mine - and I have some hysterical photos of her with cream cheese, wheetabix, mango, rubbed into her hair and sticking out of her darling ears. Still hard to get a lot of calories into her though, so still dream feeding and drinking a bottle during the night [exhausted icon] at 8 months. HV says not to stop till she picks up a bit on growth chart, but anyway too knackered from nights with viral dd1 to cope with any sort of sleep training atm.

I found a photo of dd1 at 8 months, she was doing much the same sort of stuff but had two teeth at least - dd2 still utterly toothless.

FGS, I'm so glad to see you've managed to keep your F

Elibean · 29/07/2007 09:48

Hi Oli

Am with you on the unsuitable toys. Trying to figure out where to put dd1's felt pens so she can use them but dd2 can't...

Elibean · 29/07/2007 09:50

Aargh, no time, can't catch up with more posts - please tell me if anyone has done/had/been anything wonderful/shocking/sad and I'll try harder

SachaF · 29/07/2007 15:16

Congrats WB on sleeping baby
Olihan, I think you are right, major developments = less sleep , but he went through to 4am last night (yay!)
Godzilla, I think you are right, so many things for them to learn to do at the mo
Although I now can't leave ds unattended for a minute, I really do like that he can commando crawl as he cries far less! He has had the ability to roll both ways for ages but never worked out that he could use it to get places .
Decorating is going well before getting a valuer in on Wednesday - was just as well dh was ill Thur and Fri as he has had the energy to do ceiling painting and plastering jobs over the weekend after lying on the sofa watching 'Le Tour' for 2 days

weirdbird · 29/07/2007 20:05

Back to normal night wakings last night, was 11pm and 5am again.

Am quite laid back I think in what they achieve at what age compared to how closely I followed with DD1, they all catch up with each other so quickly...

No teeth here either though am quite happy with that as she wont take formula and not sure how happy I would be bf'ing if she had a mouthful of teeth!

Well done Sacha on getting any DIY done, we really need to finish off our house renovations but having ignored most of it while I was pregnant and on bed rest I am finding it hard to get motivated to finish it, having lived with it for so long, just want someone to come and magically finish it all for me. DH just doesnt motivate himself if I am not.

Eli - The pot of felt tips lives on top of the fridge in our house as I dont like DD1 having free access to them and as shes only allowed to colour on the kitchen table anyway, they are to hand!

We have made the lounge a baby safe zone, and as DD1 is at school normally during the day it works quite well, it means I can at least leave her in the lounge for 5 min without having to worry and we have a stair gate on the door.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 29/07/2007 21:22

wb - my living room is babysafe (almost). Babyglass started crawling forwards today and there is now no stopping her . She is also trying to pull herself up when you hold her hands. It is so sweet as she is so excited by it.

unfortunately she is waking up at 5 ish every day

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 30/07/2007 00:29

I have no chance of making our space babysafe - I'm still living with my parents so theres china figures and sharp corners everywhere.

DD2 still showing no signs of crawling. She can roll, but I don't think she is that bothered!

She can stand against the coffee table and holds her weight quite well.

Constipation has improved. She still is mega smelly! And she is being sick more often, it seems to be coming up because it won't go down.

jabberwocky · 30/07/2007 04:36

I am woefully behind! We have been out of town for 10 days on vacation.

I did see wb had a night of no waking baby. Huge congratulation

In the last 2 to 3 weeks ds2 has begun to crawl, sit up, clap hands and pull up a bit. Am starting to wonder if he's decided to try to catch his brother's record on walking. Am not really looking forward to that

jabberwocky · 30/07/2007 04:36

Oh and no teeth yet either...

Elibean · 30/07/2007 09:40

Glad to see dd2 is in good toothless company, though at over 8 months she must be one of the oldest My nephew remained gummy until 13 months, but was munching steak quite happily (being 3/4 French, he was on red meat early!) without teeth...

Jabber, hope you had a good holiday - any tips on how to make one restful with two small ones?! We're off next week until beginning of September, and the thought of the journey (overnight ferry, then drive, then hotel, then rented house) reduces me to jelly DH, of course, is still blanking it

We're still getting broken nights here, and dd2 now has a runny tummy, cough, and is a bit more sicky - please please please let it be teething or a cold and not dd1's bug. Those temps in dd2 would scare me.

WB, missed (how?!) the sleeping through - hurrah! Maybe the early activity makes for tired baby makes for kip. In which case we have a way to go.

Sweetest thing though...helps me forgive the broken nights...she's been waving goodbye/hello for the last week, with a very serious face and great pride

Elibean · 30/07/2007 09:42

WB, have hidden felt pens on far side of easel - we have one of those whiteboard/blackboard things, and dd1 helps herself, so feel mean moving them out of reach altogether. Very temporary solution though, because once dd2 can walk...

Have friend with 1 yr old coming today, will borrow her LO for babyproofing tour of house...

accessorizewithbabysick · 30/07/2007 10:48

just dropping in v.briefly, haven't had much time to catch up. congrats on the sleeping wb & oli sounds like it's getting way better too at last! Hope dd2 alright, eli, I would too always be a little worried if my lo was as ill as yours was.
Who's going to be the first walker then? Shall we have a punt? It ain't gonna be mine, not even interested in crawling yet so no babyproofing happening in this house! So sweet about the hello/goodbye eli! DS2 lifts his arms up when I come along to pick him up, and is still sucking my face off (attempts at kissing I'm guessing) 3 or 4 times a day, he's quite violent about it really. Both boys very affectionate. DS1 giving ds2 loads of hugs on saturday and playing row your boat - then ds1 said I love him mummy, I could have cried!

GodzillasBumcheek · 30/07/2007 19:54

Awwww...it's great when you know they aren't jealous though. Dtds are always the doting big sisters, both arguing over who gets to hold lo, play with her, etc...it can be hard to get them off her sometimes I was worried about the 9 year age gap but i think they're fine with it...it's my body that can't cope!

weirdbird · 30/07/2007 23:51

Have just added a photo of Hannah trying to walk...

OP posts:
margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 31/07/2007 01:14

Hannah's a clever girl!

jabberwocky · 31/07/2007 05:32

Aww, eli that is so sweet! I've just thought about trying to get ds2 to wave bye-bye. He's an oldie to not have teeth like yours but ds1 took forever to get them. I'm ok with it - he ravages my nipples enough with his gums. I shudder to think about what teeth can do

AQ - ds2 has become really affectionate towards ds1 and vice versa. So cute! Lots of sucking kissy faces.

weirdbird · 31/07/2007 15:07

Awww AQ that is so sweet!!! I think that the interaction between the new siblings and old is the one thing I hadn't really thought about beyond trying to avoid jealousy, and it is soooo wonderful.

and another awww Eli at waving, it is these things that keep you going on a bad day.

OP posts:
weirdbird · 31/07/2007 15:09

Margo - Hannah is a pain, am investing in a walker type thing (may I just say OMG how expensive are they!!!) as I just cant keep her happy with the amount of time she wasnts to be standing in a day now.

and on a she is no longer interested in mummy cuddles at all, just wriggles to get of my lap and stand clutching my leg.

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 31/07/2007 15:28

Oh I've just caught up. We went to a teddy bears picnic today. very nice.

Sad news from my sister. She miscarried. Poor poor thing.

SachaF · 31/07/2007 17:40

Margo, deepest sympathy for your sister.

weirdbird · 31/07/2007 18:42

Oh Margo, so sorry for your sister

OP posts:
Olihan · 31/07/2007 19:49

Oh Margo, that's so sad. Your poor sister. I dread getting that phone call from my sister, she text me to ask about funny pains the other day and I worried all day. Luckily it was fine but I'm almost as anxious for her as I was for myself.

Sleeping.............up and down as usual. Had a bad night Sunday but back to 3 hourly last night. Part of me is quite resigned to 3 hourly but another part is so resentful every time I hear him stir when I know he could go for longer. It's so blooming stressful though, I'm completely obsessed by it at the mo.

Grrr, he's chuntering again, back soon.
