James was weaned at 16 weeks + 1 day
will do dts when they are ready

Octo - we are in Saltash, so only just in Cornwall. Twinkle is further down, not sure where. Love it in Padstow, take it a bit for granted really, but did tour alot with the caravan down here last year. Sure you will have a fab time

Men never quite get it right unless they are told exactly what to get & where from.....they're all bloomin' useless!

who didn't take her own advice then?

I weaned DS1 when he was 16 wks, guidelines then was 4 months, bearing in mind he was 6 weeks early so his corected age would have been 12 weeks He was a very hungry baby and was breast and bottle feeding but, now, looking back I think I did wean him too soon. In saying that, he never had any problems actually feeding physically or with allergies etc, he was like a starving chick, mouth wide open when solids were on offer.

DD was weaned at 8 months. She was a hungry baby, though only breastfed. I did try her with food fairly frequently from 4 months old but she would not take solid food. Part of this, I feelm was annoyance on her part as she wanted to feed herself, once she weaned i never fed her, she would eat pureed food off of breadsticks and with her fingers.

With leo, I will do what I did with DD, if he appers hungry I will offer solids from 4 months up but not get stressed if he turns his nose up.

I wanted one of those cards that looks like a child has drawn/written it IYKWIM...thought my dad would like that cos he adores Erin.

EllieK · 14/06/2007 22:36

you could always make one

OP posts:
nuttygirl · 14/06/2007 22:36

Yeah, I'd like to wait til 6 months #(but I guess that's only because it's the guidelines) - not sure Erin will wait that long tho...she already looks at our food like she wants some

nuttygirl · 14/06/2007 22:37

Oh no ellie...arts and crafts

nuttygirl · 14/06/2007 22:37

err...horror

WestCountryLass · 14/06/2007 22:38

Yeah, make one youself! You could do handrpints on it If you are right handed, write with your other hand (and vice versa) on the inside

nuttygirl · 14/06/2007 22:40

ARGH...you're all out to get me....

WestCountryLass · 14/06/2007 22:40

You know you want to....

nuttygirl · 14/06/2007 22:41

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Pesha · 14/06/2007 22:42

I didnt think they were for bfed babies yet, i know it was talked about but ones in my red book are still for bottle fed babies.

Was reading a thread aboutn weaning the other day, advice is because babies tummys arent able to cope with food well until 6 months so increases risk of allergies and problems in later life such as crohns disease. But it is just increased risk so i think it depends how you weigh that against benefits of weaning earlier iykwim. I will be aiming for 6 months but cant see it happening with ds2 being so skinny. dd and ds1 were both weaned at 4 months, dd cos that was advice then, ds1 cos 6 months was very new advice and i didnt know anything about why.

EllieK · 14/06/2007 22:44

how old is your ds then Pesha?
matthew is 3yrs 9mths and advice was still 4mths then ,thought your ds was older?

OP posts:
nuttygirl · 14/06/2007 22:44

hmm...maybe I am using formula fed charts then...i don't know it's all a bit dish out the advice with nothing to back it up (or at least the HVs don't seem to fully understand), isn't it?

EllieK · 14/06/2007 22:45

go on nutty, it'll be fun
and you can make dh clear up the mess as it's his fault

OP posts:
Pesha · 14/06/2007 22:50

He is older Perhaps it wasnt official advice then but just something i had read as new research or something. I remember reading it and thinking yeah right. Also remember being confused as alot of weaning advice was to introduce different flavours and some lumps before 6 months or babies are more likely to be fussy eaters so wondering how that works then if you're meant to wait til after 6 months. Still not sure how that works!

EllieK · 14/06/2007 22:52

i think it's all a load of balls

joe keeps looking longingly at my food .....

and was wearing it on his head earlier as i attempted to eat, feed him, and MN at the same time
