theUrbanDryad · 22/06/2007 08:24

{{hugs}} Wilkie (don't do that often.) xx

laughalot · 22/06/2007 08:35

What really gets me is that there are people being raped ect in this world and they are moaning about the word chinky............ its mad

NotAsThunkAsDreoplePink · 22/06/2007 08:46

UD - sorry I missed your MSN. Just got some pics this am from Loosh actually, her ds is veeeeeeeeeeery cute (esp in the bath)
Wilkie - ok, ok, I shall change back to 2happy. Maybe I shall be notasthunketc on other threads to hide my identity!
eandh - good news about your dad's vision!
Jodie - hope Ethan feeling better. Crawling already? ds2 hasn't even mstered rolling further than his side properly yet!!
MrsC/UD/Jodie - no food here either (despite mil spending all last sunday going "oooh, you're really wanting some of this (sausage casserole - ideal first food )" and "you're really hungry aren't you?" (no, I've just fed him you eejit!). I think I should make ds2's first food broccoli too as it's the one vegetable that ds1 absolutely refuses to eat!
DH - woohoo potty trained boy!

oh dear. Half-hour delay while I read the thread....

MN does have a habit of this, sometimes I wonder about slinking off to Netmums and being done with it (only joking, UD!). Dbil is half chinese, so dneice and dnephew both look very chinese. I would be very angry and upset if someone used "chinky" as a term of abuse at them, but will they grow up to dislike "chinky" being used for a takeaway? I don't know, but I hope that should they decide it is offensive, and should they come across it being used by someone who means no offense, they maybe they just politely ask the user not to say it, rather than start a thread on MN vilifying and upsetting the user. It is a pattern on MN, I've seen it so many times and it generally ends in tears and someone feeling that they can't post on MN any more. I think the anonymity of MN makes people feel they can be less polite and, generally, meaner than they would in RL. This massive ganging up on someone is bullying, and it makes me really sad that it is so rife, and that the internet seems to make it so easy and almost "acceptable". There were better ways the poster could have addressed the issue that wouldn't have ended this way. She dislikes the use of a term that upsets her, fair enough, we all get that and sympathise and whatever; but she deals with it by inciting the whole of MN to be unpleasant towards another MNer...who's the winner? Who's "better"? It saddens me. I think a round of applause is due to Eddas, for being consistently reasonable and supportive on that thread; and Wilkie I hope you know that there were several people who found the tone of the thread unpleasant, but I guess it's who shouts loudest.

theUrbanDryad · 22/06/2007 08:47

i know Lal - and people have taken this totally out of context as well as conveniently ignoring wilkie's apology. i haven't posted on the AIBU thread (which was way way way out of order IMFO) because i want it to die a natural death, though i may point out that their actions have made wilks feel like she has to leave MN. outrageous. am so very

theUrbanDryad · 22/06/2007 08:54

i am so tempted to start a thread saying AIBU to not expect people to bully other people and blow things out of proportion?

Lizzzombie · 22/06/2007 09:08

UD - do it.

NotAsThunkAsDreoplePink · 22/06/2007 09:15

Dammit, in the middle of long post and puter crashed

Start a thread, UD, but these things go round and round. Half the people will agree with you, then you'll get the wise-arses saying "if you don't like it don't MN", then the people saying "MN ain't what it was", then it'll die a death, only to come back again next week over something else. MN keeps doing this, which is why I take periodic breaks as it pisses me off! Then I need the support of you guys and slink back again! Hmmmmmmmmmm maybe we should start our own forum!

laughalot · 22/06/2007 09:17

Wilkie is mortified about it poor girl like she said this isnt going to help her depression.

NotAsThunkAsDreoplePink · 22/06/2007 09:19

Are you in phone contact, Lal? Please give her, I don't know, ((hugs)) aren't enough...

theUrbanDryad · 22/06/2007 09:21

i tried to phone her earlier and left a voicemail as she doesn't feel up to talking right now. you're absolutely right about it going round and round though 2Happy....

musicianswidowAKAmumofmonsters · 22/06/2007 09:41

Just came on to add that i am that the comment was blown up like that and Wilkie ignored. Please let her know i amthinking of her and hope that she can come back, maybe with a different name if that would make it easier for her

Lizzzombie · 22/06/2007 09:46

looshkin · 22/06/2007 10:14

Hello all - back from lurking over here. Thanks Urban for asking about me I think I am finally getting there - I have received loads of support from lots of people and have been diagnosed with puepural psychosis which is now settling with lots of medication. I feel for you wilkie esp with an ongoing depression, this is why i stopped posting as I was literally frightened of responses paticulary as my self confidence was an all time low but I thought I would come out of hiding to give you a cyber hug.

Waves to 2happy hopefully venturing near your way in the next few weeks.

Keep up the chatting ladies, I will pop in every now and then.

PS all your babies are v v v v cute - jan babies rule.

NotAsThunkAsDreoplePink · 22/06/2007 10:20

Loosh! Loosh! >

Blows kiss

Hugs

Thinks Loosh might now be slightly afraid...backs off slowly....shuffles feet...

theUrbanDryad · 22/06/2007 10:24

hi Loosh, lovely to see you!

lets see some piccies of your cutie then!

Mrscarrot · 22/06/2007 11:00

Oh, Wilkie, I thought about you all night (and I was up a lot) you must be feeling dreadful.

As soon as I saw that, like 2happy, I knew it would cause a big reaction for as much as it's used with no malice intended for food, it's also used in a derogatory way. I thought people would complain and you might hear from Mnet not to use it but I wasn't expecting the total lambasting you received. There is a lot of support as well for what it's worth and it's a terrible shame if you feel you can't come back. Please do. The group simply won't be the same without you, I'm sure everyone agrees with that.

Lizzzombie · 22/06/2007 11:42

Can I just share with the group, how happy I am today. We brought a new vacum cleaner last night, and its amazing. I no longer break a sweat like workhorse when I vacum, plus, it takes 10 mins to do the whole house instead of 1 hour for each room. Its great, its fantastic, its changed my life I love it....gush gush gush. Everyone should get an Electrolux 1800 (more powerful than my first car!) my life is forever changed!
[sad cow emotion]

Lizzzombie · 22/06/2007 11:44

BTW - how many messages are 'allowed' on each thread before its full? Does anyone know?
