hello everyone! Glad to hear about the tongue tie being sorted, maveta.

Had our first day-long outing yesterday - we went to the Taste Festival in Edinburgh. I slathered B in sunscreen and dressed her in a gorgeous sundress that a friend we were meeting had given her - the first time she's been out of sleepsuits! (as she's sleeping for most of the time still, I don't see any point in putting her in proper clothes usually). We had a brilliant time, spoiled only by some horrible bossy sloany type who rushed up, grasped my daughter's leg (she was in a front carrier) and started berating me for "cutting off her circulation", despite the fact that B was perfectly comfortable and happily burbling away without a care in the world. Bah.

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 10:15

We've had a couple of tiring nights, not bad, but he's been up a couple of times then awake early. Can't complain tho as he's been sat on my knee this morning looking all cute and happy looking round and talking to me (he said his first "Gaaaa") and is sloooowly falling asleep now

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 10:18

Sounds like a nice day lazyemma - agree about the sleepsuits, i've only just started putting T in little romper suits and thats mainly because they're cooler than sleepsuits. Clothes look too much like hard work!
Sounds like you got confronted by a weirdo - do these people not think you might possibly check this sort of thing yourselves?!

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 10:18

Just out of curiosity, is anyone in the Worcester area?

We abandoned sleepsuits in the day in favour of vests and trousers a couple of weeks ago just for a bit of a change and also because the long sleeves were a bit warm. Yesterday he was in a t shirt and nappy only, poor thing was really suffering in the heat..seems to have prickly heat rash, taking him to doc tomorrow to confirm though. We´ve got some cute cute CUTE little all in one short romper suits that are lovely and light, think that will be his summer uniform from now on..

HOW annoying is it that the whole world offers suggestions as to what could be bothering your baby whenever they cry? ´He must be hungry´, ´he´ll be tired´, ´have you checked his nappy?´ AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 10:50

I know
I went to a cafe a few weeks ago, was still early days so bf T while I was there almost constantly. On the way out he was having a bit of a grouch and a woman said to me "he'll be wanting his bottle"
She was cooing over him though, so forgiven!

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 10:52

I changed to the romper suits for the same reason, sleepsuits good for keeping his legs covered in the night but too hot for the day - if ti's hot here it must be worse for you! I don't delivberately change him for the night but he manages to conveniently cover himself in sick some time in the late afternoon most days

CaptainDippySuperBoobs · 10/06/2007 11:20

DD's woke up at 9.30am!!!!!!!! 1st lie in we've had in three-and-a-half yrs!!!! Was v.nice (although DD3 did wake at 6am and feed for an hr - still got in a couple more hrs after that!! ) Also DD2 woke twince in the night, absolutely screaming her little heart out, which was v.weird....... Needless to say - we're not going to church & having a lazy morning / early PM before going over to in-laws to do more Wedding stuff & see SIL & new BIL off on their honeymoon. DD2 back in bed already, bless her. DD3 sleeping too so we are doing painting with DD1 (making SIL & BIL's Wedding card, which we haven't had a chance to do yet!! ) Feeling gooood today - Thank you Lord!!!

Nice to "see" you again Luce!!

Hoping the soreness goes quickly Maveta & you can start really enjoying little N's feeding routine!!

Hi everyone - sorry it is only quick, but I'm being summond .......

nuttygirl · 10/06/2007 12:00

Maveta - glad you got the tongue tie sorted and very of the pool!

Luce - sorry to hear about the thrush but very that you love the new house.

CD - glad you enjoyed the wedding...are we gonna see pics???? We need to see your outfit, you know!!!???

Hi to everyone else (my mind's gone a bit blank!)

Erin currently asleep. I'm wondering if DH & I might get a bit of gardening done today. Our front garden is looking a bit unloved and our back garden is just horrendous at the moment. Mind you, my hayfever is playing up a bit so it's not really the best idea (unfortunately DH gets it too so I can't use it as an excuse!). I got some homeopathic hayfever relief tablets at boots yesterday and they do seem to be helping. Need to go to Asda later on for something for tea (going to Asda cos I think huggies pure wipes are on a very cheap deal there which makes it worth the extra driving!!!). Other than that there's no plans here so it may end up being a relaxing day looking at the horrendous back garden

Sexonknackeredlegs · 10/06/2007 13:02

Hi loves.

CD, v of the 9.30 lie in!!

Luce, I think the footballer was on loan to Southampton from another cub, but fell out with someone down here and hence is returning to his own club vacating the house that our friends have now bought.

Katy, my in-laws live in Worcester as does my cousin. Any reason why you were asking about Worcester?

It is lovely there I have to say.

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 13:46

I'm going to a DH work do in July, we've just found out that it also includes a formal meal on the evening, which DH feels he should go to, I'd rather not as I don't think I'd like to take T, so I imagine I'll be back at the hotel for the evening. Was wondering if any MNers fancied joining us for a drink!
If not, I can handle lying in a hotel room reading a book and drinking all the sachets of coffee and hot chocolate - I'm easily pleased!

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 13:49

Can I just clarify, before anyone feels sorry for me that it's an afternoon barbeque thing, with children's entertainment, that we sort of thought would go into the early evening and then be over, but apparently not.
Also, DH's work are putting us up at a 4 star hotel with a pool!

CaptainDippySuperBoobs · 10/06/2007 14:07

Have had a look through pics from yesterday - there's LOADS of the girls (naturally), but there really isn't any of me - and the dress isn't even featured on Monsoon's website ... humph.....Will try & think of a plan ......

elkiedee · 10/06/2007 14:17

When and where in July, Katy?

Katy44 · 10/06/2007 14:31

I think it's the 21st.
As for where...umm I'll get back to you!

nuttygirl · 10/06/2007 15:01

Well, Asda didn't have any of the wipes on offer so got some from Tesco instead (BOGOF). Not as good an offer by far (Asda were meant to be 6packs for £5 ).

Haven't got v far with gardening cos it set me off sneezing and then Erin wanted fed. She's just done a poo but I'm letting DH deal with it!

I seem to be coming over all environmentally concious at the moment, last night I bought a compost bin & kitchen caddy and today I used my Sainsbury's organic bag thing for my shopping instead of carriers (although when I use carriers we recycle them). Must be the MN effect!!! Dippy I might be badgering you for composting tips soon .

nuttygirl · 10/06/2007 16:15

ARGHHHHH...my bloody useless DH has just cut through the cable of the hedge trimmer

Would anyone like to swap DHs with me????

nuttygirl · 10/06/2007 17:13

Erin hadn't done a poo before but she blummin well has now....leaked out of her nappy all over her bouncy chair and her vest so it ended up all up her back. Have had to bath her. It stunk aswell.

Dippy (not stalking you!) what fold do you use for your terries cos I've been using a newborn one and I'm starting to think it's no longer right for her. The last couple of days she's had a few leaks.

bumble75 · 10/06/2007 18:12

Hi Everyone!

Maveta - so glad for you with the feeding! For me the feeding isn't hurting so much anymore, it's just afterwards, very odd, but feel like am making progress, even managed to feed at friends house today.

CD - lovely to hear the wedding went well and you had such a lovely lie in.

Welcome back Luce - and welcome to Edinburgh, we'll have to organise a Scottish mummies meet up soon. Other Scottish mums - how about it?

What is it with people and advice - last night my Dad was holding L and she was screaming for food so I said to him 'She's hungry, pass her over and I'll feed her' - he ignored me, kept on trying to settle her and then five minutes later said 'I think she's hungry' and handed me screaming baby... grrr.

Anyway, off to bath cranky baby, hope everyone has had a fab weekend.

xxx

weeonion · 10/06/2007 18:19

hi bumble - i am up for a scottish meet up from this thread. there would be yourself, liath, luce, vio and me - enough for a decent takeover of some coffee establishment!

LesleyR · 10/06/2007 18:24

Was going to post on here 5 hours ago, just got round to it.

CD - glad the wedding was a success and at your lie-in. George revisited newborn territory last night waking every 2 hours!

Maveta - glad you got tongue tie sorted. Wanted to say i really admire how positive you've stayed about your bf problems.

Octo - clean house! Want to come and do mine?

Nutty - you've not done a good sales job on potential swappees for your DH

Sure there were other people I meant to mention. Sorry brain fog.

Need to ask a question (stupid 1st timer alert) Can babies get hayfever? George's eyes have looked a bit sore and occasionally watery the last couple of days and he's been quite sneezy but not snotty. These things both seem worse when we've been outside. It doesn't seem severe. Have any of you experience this? He has his first jab tomorrow so I intend to ask the HV her opinion but IME they can be a bit dismissive.

lazyemma · 10/06/2007 18:48

Hi Luce! I didn't give the sloane a slap, tempting as that was! I did ensure her that my daughter was perfectly fine, thank you very much, and suggested she confined herself to worrying about her own children and let me worry about mine.

I'd be up for a scottish meet too, Bumble. I'm happy with Edinburgh or Glasgow, or wherever really. I have wheels! (I have a car, that is. Not actual wheels, attached to my legs)

lazyemma · 10/06/2007 18:57

Leslie - I did some googling for you and the results aren't very conclusive.

Found this on Babyworld:

Can young babies get hay fever?

Hayfever affects between 10 and 20 per cent of the population. In most children, the symptoms begin to be obvious during early school years. Hayfever in young babies is not often seen, but may occur. If your son has sneezing, profuse clear nasal discharge, and red itchy eyes, then hayfever is a possibility. Wheezing can also occur, and itching of the soft palate can cause young babies to rub their ears. Blocked nose is more likely to be due to a viral infection, but may occur with hayfever. Most of the medication that is used for controlling symptoms of hayfever is not considered safe for use in babies under one year. However, sodium chromoglycate (anti-allergy) nasal spray and eye drops can be used in babies of eight weeks if necessary.

LesleyR · 10/06/2007 19:27

Thanks lazyemma.

The ear rubbing is another thing he does. I'll ask to see doc tomorrow if hv can't help.

Good for you being assertive with nosy strangers, I'm always so surprised at their cheekiness I never manage a response.
