Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

I'm sure they'll all settle down in a few weeks. I'm quite enjoying it all at the moment, but that's cos I have DH still here. He'll be away three/four nights a week again from Monday so it could all go a little bit Pete Tong in the Boo household......watch this space!

Did you see DKMAs post on AN...she was headed for the hospital just after midnight with regular contractions.....my phone is by my side awaiting news!

BadZelda · 01/07/2007 09:35

Ooh exciting...so we'll have everyone on the dark side soon.

bumperlicious · 01/07/2007 10:24

Hi everyone,

So, me and DD are on our own now. There were tears and copious amounts of rescue remedy, but she is fitfully sleeping at the moment. Dreading her waking up for a feed. I just don't know if we are doing it right, I never know whether my breasts are empty, whether to try her on the other breast, if she feeds within 2 hours should I use the same breast or the other? It's all so confusing.

We got nearly 4 hours sleep all together in the bedroom last night, (well DH and DD got 4 hours, not sure I slept) but then after another feed she wouldn't settle so DH took her out so I could sleep some more. Trouble is she rarely pulls away herself, just usually falls asleep at the breast or chokes on too much milk so I take her off. I just wonder if I'm not letting her feed enough.

Sorry for the long post. I feel so needy, especially when everyone else is having their own problems. Have you seen poor Showofhands on the feeding thread from due in May? She sounds at her wits end.

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 10:32

bumper...if she chokes on the milk, take her off then try again.

I'm also wondering which boob to offer if she feeds again quickly....i think the rule of thumb is do one breast, wind, change then offer next. start off with second breast at next feed whether they take it at first or not.

but, my dd tends to feed fully from both every time, so what i tend to do is "weigh" them in my hands and start on whichever feels heaviest, LOL. it seems to be working for us.

this eptying the breast thing confusees me as well as i thought your breasts keep producing as long as they are sucking? maybe it means empty the fullness out of them......its not bloody easy is it?

take it easy today, don't try to do too much, just sleep and eat and enjoy your dd....this isn't the time to start the postponed spring cleaning.....and remember we're here if you need us.

read soh's thread....really felt for her.

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 10:35

bumper...are you going to be about today? i'm off out for FILs birthday lunch and we will be going back to PILs afterwards. I'm on standby for DKMAs birth announcement, but might not be near the pooter. Can I text you, and you can do the honours?

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 11:30

/////////BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT***\\\\\\

Text from DKMA.....

Baby Edward Charles Eric has finally arrived! 10:15 this morning, 8lbs. had to be dragged into the world. Iam still enjoying the spinal block so can't feel the stitches yet!

Woo Hoo Congratulations Mr and Mrs DKMA

claire74 · 01/07/2007 11:31

hi, with the boob thing the aim is to try and get your lo to reach the hind milk, to know if he/she has you can usually tell by gthe rhythm of their sucking. The quick gulps are when they're on the foremilk and when they slow down and take deeper sucks you can be reassured that they have reached the hind milk.

Regarding which breast when, say you have started on the right and lo pulls off and wants to back on again within the hour, then put him back on the right as the hindmilk will still be there waiting if he didn't reach it. If he goes to sleep or doesn't cry to go back on within 2 hours rest in the knowledge that he was satisfied had most likely reached the hindmilk is nice and full and start on the left breast next feed.

Hope this makes sense , let me know if it doesn't

claire74 · 01/07/2007 11:33

thats brilliant news !

Oh my neighbour is in labour at the mo having a home water birth, so exciting I love hearing birth news!

bumperlicious · 01/07/2007 11:37

Brilliant news! Sorry daisy - that would've been a yes! But too late - well done DKMA!

bumperlicious · 01/07/2007 11:39

Thanks for the info claire. Problem is that she rarely pulls off herself, I usually take her off because she has fallen asleep so I never know if she is fully sated. Well, we have one sleeping baby at the moment so that is a good sign!

claire74 · 01/07/2007 11:42

bumpers if she falls asleep on the boob, its usually a good sign that she has had enough, and if she is content afterwards for a few hours is also good

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 11:43

well we're due to leave the house in 20mins to go out for lunch and i'm sitting with bub on nork, in my dressing gown with hair wrapped in a towel! It'll now be drying all kinky and odd and no amount of wetting will help...it'll need a rewash!

bloody babies....aaaaarrrrrghghghghgh

claire74 · 01/07/2007 11:46

your one step ahead of me daisy, i'm in pj's not even had time for a shower yet!!

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 11:50

whats happening to my norks claire....leaked for the first time yeasterday...in tesco

woke up with left very engorged this morning (not had much in the way of engorgement up till now) and now as i'm feeding on the left, the right is like a leaky tap!

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 11:51

i thought i'd escaped all of this.

they bloody hurt and i've no cabbage.

...mind you that would look odd sat in a pub with bits of cabbage sticking out my bra

bumperlicious · 01/07/2007 13:53

Just wanted to say a quick hello while dd is sleeping and I'm not feeling tearful or needy! We are doing ok so far on our first day alone together!

Hi to everyone, especially people who haven't been on for a while but may be lurking, sputnik (haven't received my sling yet - desperate for it!), doggus, hope you and your little one are doing ok, derlor and ria and everyone else.

DD is asleep and we are listening to Classic FM - how much of a yummy mummy am I?!

Haven't left the house since wednesday, still feeling too agoraphobic - plus the sh*tty weather doesn't make me want to go out, especially as I haven't yet figured how to put the rain cover on the pram!

Btw, anyone else getting really bad night sweats (eww, sorry if tmi)? I'm sure someone mentioned something about them a while ago. When do that stop?

sputnik · 01/07/2007 15:52

Hi Bumper, I got the night sweats, according to Daisy it's your bodies way of getting rid of excess fluid (hooray to that then). Seem to have stopped now. Glad to hear your feeling a little calmer, hope your sling arrives soon, I've found mine really useful for settling Baby Sputnik, he was acting upset yesterday and it was great for settling him. Poor thing, today he has a temperature, but no other symptoms, hopefully it's nothing serious. Rang a doctor and they said don't give him anything unless it goes over 39, and that the only reliable way to measure temperature that young is rectally. So he got a thermometer stuck up his bum for 5 minutes, wriggled all over the place, pooed 4 times, the bloody thing kept falling out and we totally failed to get a temperature, but it doesn't feel that high, he's sleeping and eating so will leave well alone for now.

Daisy, I do the nork weighing thing too, have to remember not to do it in polite company!

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 18:18

someone told me that about the sweating...can't remember who, but it seems to have settled down a bit with me, but not completely. it's pretty horrible when you roll over in bed and take the duvet with you cos its stuck to you!

bumper...glad your day is going ok. I'm actually looking forward to it just being me and dd on tuesday.

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 19:17

Sorry Sputnik ...how is baby sputnik? I hope he's OK.

You don't seem to be having a lot of luck where illness is concerned at the minute. Sending good health vibes to Casa Sputnik

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 19:18

Where is everybody. Think I might go join the May thread......[sob] [sob] [sob]

bumperlicious · 01/07/2007 19:24

Bad mummy alert I've just given DD a dummy Oh it looks so horrid in her mouth, but she has literally fed almost non stop since 2.30, and mostly she just falls asleep at the breast. Feel awful for giving it to her, and don't want her to become reliant on it, but she loved it within seconds of it being in her mouth.

derlor · 01/07/2007 19:26

you are not a bad mummy - dummy's are great, they can be a real life saver, if she likes it then let her have it, believe me it's better than ending up with a thumb sucker

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 19:32

Bumper, i think they look kinda cute with a dummy in. Babyboo got one last night and she slept for five hours so its no bad thing in my book.

Ds had one briefly, but i used to only use it to get him to sleep and he lost interest after about five weeks, found his thumb for a few more weeks after that then stopped that too.

daisyboo · 01/07/2007 19:34

Derlor....over here....keeping a spot warm for you on the sofa!!

derlor · 01/07/2007 19:34

sorry DD1 just peed herself so was off sorting that out. i need a drink!!
