Bloody hell!!!!! I should do an MN make up masterclass

General tips for make up are:

Choose one or the other to emphasise: eyes or lips - never both i.e. really smokey eyes look fab with a barely there lipstick, a bright 'statement' lipstick should have nude eyes, a slick of eyeliner and plenty of mascara. Would look too much if you had bright lipstick and bright eyes.

Never use bronzer on really pale skin. Best use a pinky blusher unless you have a tan. Olive skin looks great with bronzer or rose/brown blusher.

Mascara - wipe the excess off the wand before applying. Apply and gently zig zag in side to side as you pull it through - will coat the whole lash

Foundation should just even your skin tone - and should 'melt' into your skin, NOT sit on it obviously.

Tell me honestly, would you pay to have your make up done properly or have a 'lesson' and if so how much?

What about things like Hen night pamper parties where you give make up lessons Wilkie?

Get a group of women together and show them what to do? Sounds fun.

Not sure I would pay for a one-to-one lesson though.

Did pay for my wedding make-up though.

I would definitely pay for a make-up lesson from someone who I thought looked good (I assume you look immaculate at all times Wilkie? ) and I could trust their advice. As for the price, I would expect to pay about £30 (or am I being a real cheapskate?!)

No Hattie - I was thinking about £25-30 TBH for a make up lesson. DH - how much did you pay for your wedding make up and was she good??

Wilkie- I paid £40 or my wedding make up included a try out session few weeks before hand (had practice run of getting hair done/then make up/then dress fitting so i knew it would all 'go') but I'd happily ay £25-30 for a lesson and would probably do it with one or two friends, ideally at home and using my own make up so I would know how to use what I had.

Vinrouge - how did you guess I loved packing?? When we moved every box was labelle with a laminated computer print out saying which room and what it contained (was pre kids though) and I had the whole house unpacked (except shed) by 10pm that night, best of all I made DH got to work as I knew he'd annoy mr putting things in the wrong place.

Better night here - DH and I have decided we are not going in to him to replace dummy/settle him unless he is really crying - I think we have been making a rod for our own backs TBH cos normally we are straight in as soon as he starts whinging. So he chuntered and whinged from 12.55am-2.30am but managed to get himself back to sleep. Grrrr, it was hard though cos it totally went against my instince to go into him but I kept peering round the door to make sure he was OK and he was fine, eyes closed but shouting/whinging - he's then stop as though listening for you for a while then start again - my boy ain't dumb!!

Had a small 3oz feed at 4.20am then slept until 7.45am.

UD - I though lo had a tooth coming as she had a white spot on top of bottom gum for 5 weeks. Needless to say, one day last week the spot totally disappeared. God knows what that was. Hope Z isn't too cranky. And grrr about your car. Give em hell!

Wilkie - sure I heard no strawberries for a while too. Not sure where from or why though. Why don't you try a cantaloupe melon? They are the nicest melons IMO and I think the most nutritious melon.

Dragon - I'm with Lal. I quite like Lewis (but didn't realise he was so young ) Not my normal type though. I usually go for dark hair or no hair in Dh's case. Is it your DSis's first baby?

Vino - I'd come to your cafe. Child friendly I presume! Looking forward to seeing your new buggy btw. Have a good trip!

PCF - a warning - that was my mate who rang to tell me she'd broken her ankle yesterday whilst rushing to the loo cos she had a tummy bug and the squits!!

Morning all, well we had a crappy night here. Zac was difficult to settle then woke at 2 for a feed and then would not go down. Just kept screaming every time i tried to put him down! i think he may have had a bit of a poorly tum anyway, then he woke at half 5 and i just stuck the dummy in on my way to the loo but he was asleep when i got back in, so it worked!

i think a rl friend of mine may be lurking...her (extremely cute) ds was born 31st jan, so please make her feel welcome!

Hello! We are lurking indeed. :O. After 30 mins of seraching for the jan thread - my baby brain has made me lose the ability to work a computer...

my 17 week old has just start waking every 2 hours throughout the night. i know that this seems to be a normal thing around the 4 month mark as they are go abit weird from what i can see at this age, but that doesnt help my sanity that much.

he wont be settled by a dummy so i have to feed him (he'll be the size of a house before long) i dont want to start weaning - which is all the mum and in laws want to suggest as he's ' A BIG BOY' - my husband sugested formula feeding for the night feed but i dont want to give in to the formula with all my hard work... there its off my chest ... aany ideas?

i did mean to say actually, Z went totally mental at 16-17 weeks but settled again by 18. sorry, not what you want to hear...i'm sure someone else has a more helpful perspective!

Wilkie - I have had a lesson once, ws just before my wedding, I went to Jenners (posh edinburgh store) to the chanel counter and got taught to put on a face so that I'd have a clue for my wedding. It was free, but shelled out loads for the products. Was totally worth it though as I am an absolute novice re: make up, usually nothing unless am going out, not even at work. So if I knew someone who gave lessons I might be tempted, esp as I am getting old (there's that rocking chair creaking again!) and have more to cover up, lol! Sounds like a great idea, tho, hope it works out for you. I think it's great if you can make a career out of something you enjoy (which is why I'd love to work in fat face )

lynnyloo - welcome! I'm no expert (tho that never stops me offering an opinion ) but if it's a growth spurt it may be worth waiting a bit longer before thinking about formula, it should pass (easier said than done...). I second UD, formula won;t necessarily make him sleep any better unfortunately.
Lal - Jodie's tip is to open wordpad/similar while reading the thread and type personals as you go along, then cut & paste - it's much easier than scrolling! Where is Jodie btw?

Been a thoroughly bad mother today; I am knackered (ds2 woke at 5.30, had just got him to sleep when ds1 woke up grr) so have just sat on sofa for an hour with cbeebies on [guilt emoticon]. However, something occured to me - is the storymaker Cat off Red Dwarf?!!! Am now (hopefully) going to grab 40 winks on the sofa before one or the other wakes from their afternoon nap.

Just a short one as got home at 7 from my nans and ellie had fallen asleep on te way home but woke up coming in and is now WIDE awake, had a great day ellie was fairly well behaved although slight blip in restaurant as they had overbooked and had to wait half an hour for table so she got bored and before meal had finished Hattie needed feeding (and she did an almighty poo about 3/4 way through lunch and it reeked!!) Ellie has blown the equilivant of 80 candles out for my Nan and sang Happy Birthday about 80 times to,she loved opening all my Nans presents for her altough was slightly unimpressed at the lack of toys/sparkly things.

Oh dear...neighbour has a chimney fire, called fire brigade, turned up with lights and siren (why?? we live on a track that goes to a farm and no further!). Stupid me says "ooh, fire engine"....

...dh now having to stand outside with ds1 like a gawping nosey neighbour because ds1 heard me. He should've been in bed half an hour ago. Oops.

Ruth had her third lot of jabs today and she cried and cried! Kept giving the nurse really dirty looks afterwards. Seems ok now though (fingers crossed!)

Had her weighed today too and she is still pretty light and is still between the 2nd and 9th centile but I have decided that I am not going to worry about it any more. She is doing really well in every other way and is definately not starving so I am going to lay my weight gan monsters to rest

Funny thing is that she was 12lbs7 and I had a look at Luke's chart to see when he was that weight and it was 6 weeks!

Had a nightmare with Luke and changing nappies today. He just keeps on kicking like mad when I am trying to get his nappy on. Also keeps telling me poo! poo! and squeesing his nappy when he has not done a poo, just to get me to take it off. So after fighting with him to get a nappy on, I stuck some pants on him this afternoon as I just didnt have the energy and he was really good and did 3 wees on the toilet and told me about 2 of them. I really wanted to wait til after a wedding we are going to in July, but guess he has other ideas. Also a pain to make sure he is going when feeding Ruth but suppose it is just tough luck. Can all those who have already potty trained tell me if they used pull-ups or just went cold turkey and stayed in?

Wilkie- I paid about £20 for my wedding make-up and £10 for a trial (discount when booked together). I felt like it was way to heavy for me and was really aware of it at the start of the day (was fine after afew glasses of bubbly!) but the photos did look good. Love the idea of a make-up make-over! You could go to peoples houses and tell them what is good and what is bad in their collection and like EAH says show them how to use it properly.

it will be really spoilt!

2happy- How is you dsis's lo doing? Yes, it is cat btw! An no, Luke does not watch too much tv to keep him still and so he does not do things to get my attention and make me get up when I am trying to bf Ruth . What does your ds1 do while you are bf? My dsis just rang to tell me that she had the bomb squad at her next door neighbours house as they found 2 granades (sp?) in a house they were clearing out! Sounds very scary but she was really excited!

Welcome Lynnyloo! I would say that if he is taking a full feed then he needs it, and if he is just taking a little bit then falling asleep then he is using it to go to sleep. If he is hungry maybe try feeding him more in the day and see if that helps or if he is just comfort sucking then it might be worth seeing if you can settle him with out feeding him and have a few really bad nights to make the rest better iyswim? My ds1 was/is a really big boy and I didnt wean him til 6months so if you want to carry on then I dont think weight is an issue. Is he your first or do you have more? Hope you enjoy the thread!

Dragon- I may well return to carrot, although I laughed when Wilkie called me currant bun so I may be that for a while. Name changing is probably annoying for everyone else but it's quite fun. Glad you're feeling better re weight thing. 12.5 is a very respectable size, F is only around 15 and he looks massive, and feels really heavy. I bet your LO is just fine.

no time for personals as DS usually wakes up for a feed round about now.

Had such a DOH! day yesterday. Went shopping (i.e. taking stuff back) to the nearest shopping centre, spent a lovely afternoon buying stuff with vouchers and swapping stuff. Came to pay for parking and realised I had no change, went to get some cash out of the cash machine and realised i had left my cards at home.

was soooooo embarassing , had to find a security guard and ask what to do as wouldn't be able to get my car out without paying. Luckily he was a sweet old man and lent me the money. my face was bright red.

then got back to the car and i had left the window down after taking the ticket out of the machine on the way in . Luckily nobody had noticed and nothing had been taken from the car!!

Pregnancy has wrecked my brain!!!

have a really busy day tomorrow. Weaning fair at 10, baby massage at 10.30, meeting other scottish MNetters at 2 and cranial oteopath at 4.30!!! will be knackered!!

Mrs C found a really good butter substitute called pure in sainsburys. Tastes better than a lot of margarines i have tried!!

Just a quickie, but got to say I PMSL last night at the apprentice. I was laughing so much I woke ds2 up (asleep on my lap), he saw me laughing and thought it was piss funny so started laughing himself which set me off more, I ended up with tears running down my face!! I am not a cry-with-laughter person, normally.

But, for those who haven't seen it yet, look out for the fired person leaving - why are they wearing completely different clothes to what they were wearing in the board room???
