you choose - for you or for your bubba

I can't believe the May thread is so excited that their babies are arriving. That time in our lives seems like soooooo long ago .

Just popping in to let you know I haven't disappeared, but am having really really hard time of it at the moment. Bertie isn't feeding properly, so have resorted to feeding him EBM in a bottle which as you can imagine takes forever. I can never get more than an oz at a sitting and of course with him not feeding goodness only knows what it's doing to my supply. I'll probably be dry as a bone by the end of the fortnight.

Gonna try some skin to skin again today, have also bought some ready-made Aptimil, I didn't want to ff - how expensive is that stuff!!! - but nor do I want to starve the poor little man!!

Dh and I? Well.... who knows.

I'm sorry I've not read the messages, just got a rare five minutes (and spent most of last week at mil's house trying to unwind and relax, worked a little but I can't stay there forever). Love to you all xxxx

Shrinkinglily · 29/05/2007 08:10

Morning Mossy, hope everything settles down soon. Don't worry abaout anything, just do what you have to do for now.

I'm grumpy today, have a headache but I think it's dehydration because I've been drinking loads since I got up and it's easing....

Anyone else losing hair now? This always happens to me. I'll have a little suede head under my hair in a few months but for now I'm very thin haired

foxcub · 29/05/2007 08:31

Suede head!

I lose handfuls too !

Mossy - good luck with the expressing. Poor you. Did you see the LLL woman last week?

kiwibella · 29/05/2007 08:50

hi everyone... keep at it Mossy! You are doing brill.

Eids... I don't know how you know this kind of stuff (actually, I don't know how I don't know this stuff) but how can you tell what sort of milk produces what kind of nappy???

We arrived in Adelaide last night - very, very tired. The girls are doing ok adjusting to the time difference. Kate settled shortly after we got in and MissE and I not long after. I woke Kate about 10am and, so far, she has settled in to her usual routine. MissE and I have been napping all day.

Dad is besotted. It's amazing to see him cuddling and teasing Kate - he couldn't have done this a year ago (obviously but I mean his health).

Glad to read that it's been a quiet weekend, productive for some of you! Hope that means it has been relaxing too.

kittyhas6 · 29/05/2007 09:34

Kiwi, glad the trip was ok. How exciting for you all. I must be lovely to see your dad again. How long are you staying for/ What's the weather like?

Mossie, so sorry you're still having a tough time. Keep your chin up girl .

Foxy/rosy, I'm waiting for the hair to start falling. I so hate it when it happens. It makes me totally paranoid. There I'll soon be adding to my list of body paranoias..... fat, unfit, haggard and .....bald

AmieR · 29/05/2007 10:22

big hugs Mossy. things will get better, I am sure.

The weather here in the midlands over the bank holiday weekend was awful... managed a trip to oxford to see some old uni friends on sunday, and did nothing on monday apart from going to KFC!

Joseph was grouchy all evening, relaxed a little after his bath.. gave him his last feed at 11, then heard nothign from im till 7 thirty! which was the best yet!

then he went on an hour and a half feedathon! Whihc he's once again sleeping off!

eidsvold · 29/05/2007 10:35

welcome to Aus kiwi - apparently with breastfed babies - green runny poo is produced when they are drinking/taking a lot of the watery sugary foremilk. If they are feeding properly then it is the browny yellow sweet smelling 'normal bf poo'

does that make sense?

Did not know until I panicked the first time dd2 produced a nappy full of this green poo - called SIL in a panic thinking something was wrong ( never had a nappy like that with dd1 - ff) and she explained it to me. HV told me it was because I had eaten a curry well dd2 would have been used to that as we eat a lot of curries!!

Shrinkinglily · 29/05/2007 11:33

Never heard that before Eidsvold But I think Ds1 had some green nappys, he had colic and I couldn't fill him and I bet we would have benefitted from seeing a breast feeding specialist!

Booboobedoo · 29/05/2007 12:04

Hi everyone.

Am learning how to type one-handed.

DS has his first cold, poor little mite. . It's rotten hearing him cough and splutter: he gets in such a panic.

Mossy: just went and read your thread. So sorry you're going through this. From what you've said in the past, it sounds as though DH & his Mum have pretty much replaced your family, so I cn see why thir opinions would hold so much weight. My DH keeps muttering about formula for the 'dream-feed' purely on the basis that his boss does it. I nod, smile and ignore him. Hope you're ok. My marriage isn't exactly a dream atm either.

More later - DS in the mood for a chat.

DollyPopsOut · 29/05/2007 13:43

Mossy - tried to give you a bell but you were in bath. Sending you big love - I found it so tough at this stage with DD1. My relationship was not going well, felt very isolated and was worried about everything. Hope you feel better soon.

Suede head - another one over here. I lost so much with DD1 that I had to have a really short cut so as not to look very strange. It has started again so I'll be sporting my gamine crop very shortly.

Booboo - thank you so much for the offer of a lift to chez foxy on Friday. I don/t know yet if I am going to bring DD1. If so, we'll have to do public transport as I think there are very few cars which will hold 2 baby seats and a toddler one! Very kind offer though. If it is just me and T, then that would be great thank you.

Still got a sore throat but feel a bit less pants after some rest. Hvae had a few black momnets healthwise over teh last few weeks - along the lines of "what;s that ache / pain/ lump / spot etc? my children are too young to be left without a mother...." which I know is daft but I can get things wildly out of proportion. My anxiety is dreadful and I have had therapy in the past for it but am trying to manage it now .

Eids, very clver on the poo. God some hvs talk crap don't they? Booboo, if DH wants to do a dream feed, could you bear to express?

love to everyone - hope rain has stopped where you are XXXXX

sazzybee · 29/05/2007 14:03

Hi all

Have finally managed to nip into an internet caff - elliot has an uncanny knack of waking up the moment I start typing!

Thanks for all your kind messages re my burglary - I am insured so it's more of a hassle than anything else although I'm gutted I've lost all my pics and film. I just keep telling myself it could have been worse and trying not to think of what was on my hard disk.

Sorry I don't have time to read all the messages but gathered you're having a hard time mossie so I send you hugs and hope things pick up soon. I broke my breast pump which was boots own brand and got an avent instead which i've found much quicker so i don';t know if that's any help

fox - i've managed to copy down yr number - mine's 07990 977 138 so hgope to see you and others (not goy time to read the thread so it'll be a surprise!) on friday

hopefully they'll replace my work computer this week so I'll be back online soon

xxx

Booboobedoo · 29/05/2007 14:19

Hi sazzy: glad to hear you sounding ok. Did you lose many baby pics?

Dolly: DH isn't bothered about doing a dream-feed himself. Bathing is his thing - he loves it. He thinks giving formula will magically make DS sleep for 8 hours straight.

I express every morning, but only get about 2oz per day (which is about half a feed), so I'm building up a bit of a frozen bank.

NewMum24Gem · 29/05/2007 14:59

i really do keep missing you lot when your chatting!

my ds has an embarassing prob. he wont stop farting! i think its more embarassing for me though lol. they smell so much.
hes getting his first tooth aswell which he isnt liking.

TheBlonde · 29/05/2007 20:14

Sorry not posted on this thread in a while, it's hard to keep up

Foxy - I'm not sure about Friday at the moment. Bit worried about driving and not sure I can cope with 2 kids and changing train etc

I was wondering how many feeds a day all the babies are having - DD is 9 weeks now and still doing about 8 feeds

divastrop · 29/05/2007 21:01

hello.

i really need to scream!!!

my mum went home this morning,i have turned into her again and spent all day getting stressed and annoyed with dp for not reading my mind and doing the things i wanted him to.i can almost hear her now, telling somebody how crap i am etc etc.

anyway.im having a glass of wine(im on my second now)and trying to de-stress.

newmum24-the worst thing is when the baby farts in public and everybody looks at you as though you've done it.oh well, better out than in!

booboo-tell your dh from me,re the having a bottle of formula and going 8 hours, that i said 'hahahahahaha'.

mossy-i really hope things get better for you soon.we all love you!((((((hugs)))))))(sorry for the temporary fluffiness there, but sometimes its necessary).

Elsie has been whingy today.i think shes teething already.i had to cancel her jabs again this morning as shes got yet another cold.shes still cute though

divastrop · 29/05/2007 21:08

btw mossy-aptamil is expensive but worth it IMO.mine wouldnt drink the ready made stuff when theyd got used to the powder.it does tast rank though(i was curious!)

kittyhas6 · 29/05/2007 21:11

Diva, sorry you're mum has made you so stressed, hopefully you can start to unwind now?

Theblonde, re feeds, I have no idea how many!! All I know is that it is A LOT !!!

Hope you are all ok. It's half term and my helper is off AGAIN AGHHHH!!! So I'm feeling rather up against it. Ronnie is going longer (a bit) between feeds, but he still has no routine during the day . So anyways, I might not be posting that much this week.

sazzy, hope you are recovering from your horrible experience, poor you, did you save any photos to disk?

morocco · 29/05/2007 21:44

enjoy the wine diva and hope you unwind

yup, kitty, half term should be banned although I had a nice day today with a friend and her little lad - kids chucked out in garden while we chatted - and they didn't murder each other!!

mossie - hugs and hugs - your posts remind me so much of my 1st baby, the tension between me and dh who can just #radiate# disapproval sometimes, the whole bf thing, everything really. hang on in there. it's partly about getting the confidence to do things your way and that you know your little baby better than anyone in the world. one day at a time . . . (expressing btw, can you do it at the same time as a feed, either from the other breast if you only usually feed from one, or from the first breast once you are offering the second - you get more milk that way)

dd goes from strength to strength - she loves a few minutes of tummy time now - aka turning her over to undo all the buttons on dress - she rolls over onto her back by mistake and then gets cross so she must like it

Piffle · 29/05/2007 22:02

Crikey have not been on for bloody days!!!
DD is much better now, Finn still delish, cranked in another 8 hrs last night so am thinking very well of him atm, even if he did chunder spectacularly this evening (am at PIL for 2 days) and I saved MIL's lovely new furniture (new house) and took the hit all over me - best bit, dp (his birthday) washed and changed Finn I showered in PIL's superb power shower and came out, Finn was asleep!
Dp and PIL have gone to pub quiz, am her with ds1 (13) he is on laptop msning and I'm here

Mossie, just hugs, feel no guilt, do what you have to do to get by, I also have a carton of Aptimil in my pantry, just incase ever I require it. I really hope things start coming back into a good headspace for you. Come and stay with me if you need You can talk all the Dr Who you need with ds1 Also how did Berties weight gain seem on Thursday?

So relationships under strain, possible pregnancies, meetups, burglaries... We're some bunch of lasses!

eidsvold · 29/05/2007 22:24

mossie - do not be hard on yourself - having a baby is a major change for people and their relationships. I have formula in the cupboard and have given dd3 one or two bottles of it. Once I was out and had built up some expressed milk and she went through that and wanted more so dh gave her formula - he felt bad - but I said - rather than than her scream in hunger for me. I just expressed then and put it in the freezer for another time. The next time - she was just feeding and feeding and I was exhausted and it seemed like she was not giving me enough time to build up a supply to feed her properly - gave her some formula and she settled as she felt full.

I know your dh and MIL mean well - but you decide what works for you. Aptamil is the formula that we used with dd1 - she was fully fomula fed.

be kind to yourself and take it easy.

DollyPopsOut · 29/05/2007 23:01

Another vote for Aptamil here - I gave it to DD1 when she was at nursery and still give it to her if we are out. She does drink cow's milk of course but if we are not sure how long we will be away in the daytime, it's much easier to have a carton in the buggy and an empty bottle, esp if it's hot! Does taste rank to me though!

Did anyone see gordon ramsay drinking the BM cappuccino? Very amusing. BM is very sweet though. I asked DH if he ever felt curious and he said "No" rather too quicly! It was going to be offered from my expressed stash rather than at source! Like I would waste it on him. I left some too long in the fridge and had cream! Very odd!

Shattered now. DD2 asleep. Dare I risk seeing if she can last til the morning or should I wake her for a quick boob to top her up?

DollyPopsOut · 29/05/2007 23:02

Looking at my last post I have gone exlamation mark crazy. sorry about that. Clearly need to get out more

spongecake · 29/05/2007 23:13

hi all-just mananged a quick skim, and have been asked today by a relative with 3 kids if my baby is talking yet. he is 2 and half months old! i refuse to have him in some kind of ratlet race...

Dolly- gordon ramsay made me laugh when he spat it out-i wondered whose it was though!

Diva- sorry about your ma and her housework police role- your dp sounds a good man btw. my cyst is/ was on my chest, and i hope to have it taken out for good next month.

best go, we have a visitor, and i think my giant pants are drying in full view in the kitchen.

AmieR · 29/05/2007 23:40

talking yet??? were they serious??? more importantly, did you resuce your pants in time?

Just got back from cinema, went to see Pirates of the carribean.. quite a good view, left Joseph with my folks when we picked him up, mum had given him his last feed and got him already for bed, so the drive home settled him, and he's fast asleep now... wonder if we'll have a repeat of the 8 hours last night.. me thinks not!

eidsvold · 30/05/2007 04:45

I have another poo lesson for you all

licorice + breastfeeding = explosion.

Still the lovely yellow breastfed colour BUT all through nappy, all up back and beyond !!

scarily I was sitting about a metre away from pram where dd3 was and I could hear her filling her pants.... oh the shame of it!
