Thanks so he has had cucumber sticks and toast soldiers along with baby porridge and purees.
He has had poached pear but then it is OK to just give him sticks of regular apple and pear??
Really worried about him choking on any of it 😕

blinkineckmum · 09/09/2018 20:04

No, he shouldn't choke. He will have a strong gag reflex and you will be there!

Anyone else bottle feeding there little ones? I just had to post as I’m infuriated! Anyone’s baby get really distracted by any sound?! My dd can be guzzling her bottle and then any sound from older sibling or someone coming in the room will completely distract her and she’ll stop feeding. Sometimes I can manage to persuade her to eventually have the rest of bottle but it takes forever but sometimes it’s all game over and only 3oz drank... it’s driving me crazy as makes every feed take so long. Anyone else have this issue?

MrsL2016 · 11/09/2018 10:40

@vickylou78 my DS is like this to a degree. Even worse when we are out and about. He is so nosey now. I don't have any solutions other than going somewhere quiet to feed but I know that isn't always practical, especially when you have other children. Our bedtime feed is always in the nursery which is dark and quiet and he has his bottle in minutes.

SnowBambino · 11/09/2018 11:11

I have the same issue but with the boob vickylou. DD is very easily distracted and will just whip round suddenly, either with the nipple in the mouth (ouch) or pinging off it, which can sometimes result in milk jets shooting off. It’s an absolute pain!! I’m sure she didn’t feed anywhere near enough yesterday as we were traveling. It’s awful when we’re out and about as I can’t just sit with my boobs out waiting for her to decide to feed again! Not sure what the answer is though! Trying to make sure that certain feeds are done in the quietest place (lunch, dinner and bed) as they are the ones that come before sleep and are essential that she gets full. Others I’m just letting her do what she wants, and I guess it’s pretty unlikely she’ll starve.

We’re on holiday. It’s beautiful and DD was perfect throughout the journey and was much adored on the plane. The only time she cried was when I used the handdryer in the baby changing room at the airport!

On the down side, she did not sleep during dinner (we could have had it brought to our terrace but DH turned down the offer as he thought it would be nice to eat in the grounds Hmm ) and then due to being over-tired she then woke up every two hours! Today we’re just chilling and getting her back into the routine. Fingers crossed anyway.

Vickylou78 · 14/09/2018 14:18

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one! It’s even worse when we are out too as she gets so distracted looking at what’s going on. Ah well she’ll soon be 6 months and we can start solids so I can concentrate on breakfast bottle and nighttime being nice and quiet and see how it goes with the rest of the feeds around the solids feeds.

Hope everyone’s doing well. My little one has started to almost sit up now, but still gradually falls over or face plants so we are currently sat with lots of pillows all around! It’s exiting times as cute baby language increasing too.

Next week we are going to try doing all naps and evening sleep in her cot upstairs. Gulp! She’s currently in the basket down in the lounge with us until we take her to bed with us. Fingers crossed.... my plan is to pretend to sleep next to cot for first few times and give her but if a pat every now and then if needed and see if she’ll drop off! Wish me luck.... we’ve mainly been cuddling to sleep until now.

I’m thinking about going back to work in a couple of months too... scary it’s gone so quickly. Think will be December I go back so I’ll be registering dd at nursery this week. It’s all go! Time please stop!

Clevs · 15/09/2018 17:07

Our transition into the cot has gone well. I started off keeping him in his basket in the cot for a few nights to get him used to being in his own room, then removed the basket. He still wakes a couple of times a night but yesterday slept in till 10am and today slept in till 9.15am.

We've introduced a daily bath routine as well (was every other day) and bedtime is straight after. That way we can hopefully bring bedtime forward a bit without him realising.

He still needs to be rocked or fed to sleep so I've bought a rocking chair. I try and stop rocking as he drifts off though. I know some people (HV included) say he should be learning to self settle by now but it works for us at the moment. I wanted the introduction into the cot to be as pleasant as possible for him so he doesn't associate it with crying etc.

He's rolling around everywhere but can't roll back yet or sit up either. He comes out with some really cute noises and smiles though, he's such a darling 😍

He's trying some veg for the first time tomorrow when we do our Sunday roast too.

avocadoincident · 17/09/2018 18:19

@Clevs I was just thinking about how you are getting on with the cot. Glad it's going well.

Food that works for us: mashed up roast dinner, crumpets, baked beans, spiced chickpea and spinach pie (yes really 😂), toast and marmite, carrot and coriander mush, minted mashed veg, avocado, chickpea and basil pasta, porridge (which I made a big batch of with mixed nuts and seeds, dried apricots and sultanas and then whizzed the dry mix in the food processor and then keep in a tuppawear pot and make up every other day with breast milk). I'm either making food, feeding her food or cleaning up from the food carnage!

LoveRainbow02 · 17/09/2018 20:06

Hi ladies, I haven't been on here for a while. Hope all the wee babes are well. I'm struggling getting a bottle down my ds. He is nearly 27 weeks and has went off milk completely! He has no problems with solids and will happily wolf them down but today he's had in total 8oz of milk and yesterday he had 5oz which is know is nowhere near enough for him. He doesn't drink a lot of water either so I'm struggling to just even keep him hydrated. I've tried feeding from a bottle and beakers and at different temperatures and still no luck. Any multivitamins that anyone would recommend?

ChampooPapi · 20/09/2018 09:29

I'm either making food, feeding her food or cleaning up from the food carnage!

So true! This life Smile

Oh the days of just the boob/bottle, wistful sigh

ChampooPapi · 20/09/2018 09:32

And this is a great site for baby weaning

the-gentle-touch.com/courses/baby-weaning/

I went to her class and it was fantastic

and this might be useful for @LoveRainbow02 regarding vitamins

the-gentle-touch.com/baby-need-vitamin-d/

Though the ones they want you to use are very expensive

ChampooPapi · 20/09/2018 09:34

Most multi-vitamins contain around 400 IU of vitamin D (or 10mcg). For large amounts of vitamin D to transfer via the breastmilk you’d need to be taking around 6000 IU! So if you’re exclusively breastfeeding your baby needs their own supplementation.

This is why they want you to use more expensive multi vitamins as they contain the right amount rather then much smaller measures of vitamin D ect, but I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives as long as you know the amounts you are looking for (amazon Grin)

ChampooPapi · 20/09/2018 09:37

This was a really good bit of advice I took from her class that I have copied from her website

Avoid giving too much dairy at the same time as meat, fish or pulses. High levels of calcium can interfere with iron absorption.

Its something I definitely didn't know last time round

SnowBambino · 27/09/2018 08:31

Anyone else dealing with a constipated baby? DD is 7 months almost, and suddenly unable to go! Today I will feed her pear purée in the hope that will help - any other suggestions?

ChampooPapi · 27/09/2018 08:51

Prune puree mixed in with every meal, from breakfast to dinner @SnowBambino and lots of water should help, it might take a few days though so keep adding it to as much as possible until you get a movement!

ChampooPapi · 27/09/2018 08:52

But lots of water is really so good too, they should be having water during all their meals and afterwards as well

SnowBambino · 27/09/2018 09:27

Thanks @champoopapi
She’s having lots of water, and is still only on two small meals a day. I will add prunes, and I’m just making some pear purée as pears are something I have at home already. I think her tummy is very sensitive due to her dairy intolerance and the months of upset tummies she had until recently. She had her first protein meal on Monday and I think she’s struggled to digest it! Poor thing. Sleep has been appalling too, so we are both tired!!

avocadoincident · 27/09/2018 09:46

@SnowBambino when dd was constipated I gave her a good all over baby massage with lots of clockwise circling on her tummy and bicycle leg movements and within the hour she'd filled her nappy. (Maybe a coincidence )

SnowBambino · 30/09/2018 07:50

A combination of pear purée, lots of water and adding other ‘p’ foods (peas and prunes) seemed to work pretty quickly, and normal service has resumed!

Sleep has been terrible though, 2-3 wake ups a night and quite a bit of grumbling and groaning in between, but we finally have a tooth!

How is everyone else?

avocadoincident · 01/10/2018 09:16

2-3 wakeups is a standard night for us. No sign of her sleeping through the night. She loves solids but it doesn't make her sleep anymore.

Anyone else have a waking up baby all night?

LoveRainbow02 · 01/10/2018 18:22

My baby wakes up 2-3 times a night also. He used to sleep through and now doesn't! I had 1 night last week where he slept through and none since.

Smurf123 · 01/10/2018 20:22

Mine is up a couple of time every night at least!

LoveRainbow02 · 02/10/2018 16:50

Any tips on how to help my ds drink from sippy cups? He used to drink from them from around 5 months and now he just hits them away. I've tried all types and the only way he will drink from them is if I remove the lid and hold the cup to his lips and he will sip.
