Thought i would start the offical May 2007 thread as it is May and we have now had our first offical May baby - even though we have 6 naughty babies who queue jumped and arrived in April .

Probably be a while before there are many messages but a least we have a thread now

Oh my God. I am a dummy convert - shame on me!! Today has been like a breath of fresh air here. R has not cried ata ll except for when she is hungry and has had a much more settled day. I feel so much happier and I'm sure she is less stressed. Also ds is happy because he has had a bit more time with me and hasn't had to listen to R crying all day. I don't know if it will work forever but at the moment it is bliss.

aprilmeadow · 28/05/2007 19:49

Thats brilliant AbbyLou. I'm all in favour of anything that keeps them quiet. Ella not a fan of them yet, but i do keep trying just on the off chance.

Hello all

I feel like absolute shit today. Woke up and fed and changed Lottie, to then go and collapse in a fit of pain. My mum found me moaning uncontrolably on my bedroom floor, I couldn't move. Doctor and m/w got called out. Doctor says my bowls are completely packed up because of the iron and pain killers I'm on making me constipated, and m/w says that my womb feels like it is inflamed and I also have a uterine? (sp) infection. Not to mention my stitches and how much they are hurting, and my boobs are solid and uncomfortable.

Completely broke down in my mums arms, think the baby blues may have kicked in. I feel like such a mess, I'm in so much pain I feel totally unfit to look after my baby girl. I can barely walk, and I'm now on pain killers, an anti inflamotary pill, iron tablets, lactulose (sp) and anti-biotics. I've never felt so medicated in all my life. Haven't stopped crying today. It's funny cause I read all the pregancy and birth books I could get my hands on, but not one of them explained how crap you can feel afterwards. They just give you this romantic view of how great you'll feel with your new baby, they don't explain how awful it can be. I feel like I've been run over.

On the positive side of things Lottie is absolutley thriving and getting more and more beautiful by the day.

hi all, just wondering if any of you have had hallucinations at night - it wasn't until I mentioned it today to a RL friend that I realised it must be normal as she had it too.

middle of the night. wake up with a start
BB:can you take her please, I need to go to the loo
DP:she is in the cot
BB:she is on me I can feel her - quickly, I need to go to the loo!
DP: Darling, look at her in the cot!!
BBh god, i'm going nuts, sorry....

this must have happened in various guises for about 4 nights... that along with the lovely sweats... any other curious and embarrasing tales of this?

BefnalBub · 28/05/2007 21:27

LW - sorry didn't refresh the page! Horrible to have to go through that ; really hope you start to recover very soon. I can recommend prune juice for constipation - medication & breastfeeding seem to have had the same effect on me, couple of glasses of pJ at each end of the day soon get things going again.

xx

Lupins71 · 28/05/2007 21:54

Abbey well done on the dummy convert - whatever works in my opinion

LW hugs to you, yes they do give you a rose tinted view of past pg, sorry you are feeling pants hope you feel better soon, at least you have your mum around to help

AM sorry hun am still feeling crap, not really crap but i dont wish to pass it on to you lot and cant face town - maybe next week would be good are you about??

Does anyone elses baby seem to have a phase in the day when they are permantly hungry - unfortunatly most of it has just come straight back up all over me - so he is still blimmin hungry, seem to have been feeding him for ages

BefnalBub · 28/05/2007 22:07

Evening Lupins!

i've had to do a few cluster feeds today and ended up with a green poo-ed baby. . just checked up and it can be too much fore-milk (i was probably swapping from side to side too much). also i noticed that since coming out of hospital L has been posset-ing and vomming more despite winding (during the 5 days in hospital i didnt wind her at all and she didnt posset at all). was trying to work out the difference and think its the fact that i've been having alcohol and coffee since being out. am going to try giving them a miss for a week and seeing if she goes back to her old ways.... then again it could be a maturing gut, we shall see.

Lupins71 · 28/05/2007 22:31

evening befnal - hmmm interesting he didnt vom or posset in hossi either thinking about it, but then he was mostly on ebm, will have to dig out baby books as the full on vom on mummy (was in the face the other day) is a nearly daily event

scootermum · 28/05/2007 22:57

Hi all,

Just come on to see how you and all the lovely May babies are...

Morning all. We had another good night last night and the dummy still seems t be doing the trick in the day. I just don't want to turn into one of those neurotic parents who jumps up every 2 minutes to stuff a dummy back in!!
LWatkins - sorry you are having such a rough time. I suffered terribly with constipation after R was born also due to iron tablets. The stomach ache was absolute agony and like you I was doubled up crying on the bedroom floor - thnk dh thought I had another baby in there! I sent ly long-suffering dh to the chemist to explain the situation and he came back with Senokot. The drink tastes absolutely disgusting but it does the trick. It worked gently - not a great big clearout all in one go! I think it just softens things and contains loads of fibre to help things move along. After taking two drinks a day for about 3 days I felt fine and everything is now back to normal in that department. I also sympathise about the boobs. I had terrible engorgement because I fed R in the hospital and then changed to ff when I got home. I know it's hard to believe but cabbage leaves in the fridge and then in your bra really do work - dh couldn't believe they actually came out half cooked!

Lupins71 · 29/05/2007 10:43

Thanks AM thats what i thought - wow where did all that com from, hes doubled in size I dont need anything thanks, have to take him to hospital thurs for his check up

Have found out my cousin is 8 weeks pg, so have sent her in direction of mn - at least now i dont have to worry about where the baby bath ect will be going!! bless her the dad doesnt want to know, told her to ring if she needs any info and going to pack up all my left over pregnacare and post to her, am secretly excited or her

aprilmeadow · 29/05/2007 10:47

i have 2 full packs of pregncare if she wants thoses as well

OMG, it's not just me with the night sweats? I thought I'd aged ridiculously and was going through the menopause. DH thinks I'm having raunchy dreams on a nightly basis, though I think you have to sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time to dream.

Lwatkins, they certainly don't tell you how hard the baby blues can be. I promise you that you will come out the other side of it in a couple of days. Take it one hour at a time, do only what you feel you can and be nice to yourself. You have been through a physical and emotional ordeal. Believe me, from day 4 I was a tearful, sad, guilty wreck who thought I'd never cope, that I was a terrible Mum and worryingly I was convinced that something was terribly wrong with me due to the horrific amounts of pain/constipation/black poo/ridiculously engorged breasts/shooting pains. I second cabbage leaves btw. And yes they come out of your bra semi-cooked and smelling very questionable! We tried to watch a film on day 5, DH restarted it 4 times because I kept breaking down in tears and eventually we gave up. It was the hardest few days but I got there.

DH is off work today and we're having a lazy late breakfast now- pastries, muffins, jams etc. He was a star in the night. I've mastered feeding lying down so I snoozed through all of the feeds and DH did the winding and nappy changing. Best night so far.

Mathilda is currently all squished up in her sling and snoring. She's her Dad's daughter...

aprilmeadow · 29/05/2007 12:06

Sorry for the short posts, have had to type one handed as Ella didnt want to be put down.

LW - sorry that you are having a tough time at the minute. It does get better and at least you are at home with the support of your family

SOH - i to have mastered the feeding lying down. Great isnt it! Also been sweating like god knows what. What sling do you have? I have bought a freedom pouch off of ebay to see if i can actually get things done around the house. Not quite sure how it works, so perhaps that will be this weeks task

Lupins - Thats brilliant that Arlen has piled on the pounds. I dont know about you, but now that Ella is putting on weight she looks really chunky (only 9lbs) but people still think she is tiny. Its great now though as she can start wearing all the clothes that have been bought for her.

Right, i am off to Reading to see what i can find - going to avoid KK as that's a mission for Lups and i to do

Morning all

Had a rubbish night, as usual. Lexie has her dodgy periods in the evening and also between 3am and 5am. She sleeps like a dream after her 11pm feed, and then springs into wide awake action at 3am. Not necessarily crying, just wanting to be held, which is so worrying when you are that tired. I wish she was big enough to sleep with us in our bed, at least we'd all get some sleep.

LW - I have had awful baby blues, Lexie is 12 days old today, and only yesteday did I start to feel more like I can cope. Don't get me wrong, I still feel emotional when she cries and I can't work out why, but I promise it gets better.

Midwife has just been, and Lexie weighs 7lb 1oz, still a little dot, but that is a 3lb gain from her birth weight, so at least I'm confident I'm not starving the poor child.

She is definitely displaying diva-like tendencies now. She hates her playmat, her chair, and her pram. And the blood curdling screams we have to ensure while she waits for her bottle in the middle of the night are stomach twisting. Stops the second the bottle goes in though. I think I may have a little monkey on my hands. Gorgeous though.

Anyone have any words of wisdom re: the not settling business? i.e., when you've fed and winded them, and every time you go to put them down they start to cry? I'm seeking inspiration. To avoid hitting the bottle mainly

AbbyLou · 29/05/2007 13:13

PJ - As you k
have probably read I have resorted to the dummy to settle Ruby. Our house is a changed place...

cameroonmama · 29/05/2007 13:36

oh LW, what a dreadful time of it, poor you, it'll soon be better. I had the lacutulose and it worked a treat. You can get gel pad thingies that are you can put on your stitches to ease the pain and itchiness, I think I saw them in Mothercare.

Thanks Lups for the saline drops advice, I've bought some today so will give it a go tonight, his bunged up nose is really stopping J from settling after his feeds at night especially when he is horizontal. I used to have one of those aspirator, snot buster thingies but I can't find it, I looked for one in JL but no luck, can you remember where you found yours? Sorry to hear you are also feeling yucky, but sounds like A is growing now at a huge rate!

Pink, if you don't have a dummy, try the knuckle of your pinkie finger for a wee while, it sooths J and helps him drop off, saying that he too was awake from 11.30 to 1.30 last night, his dsis says he is nocturnal

I too am sweating like a piglet, but no hallucinations as yet, as SOH says I probably am not asleep longer enough for that to happen. Do you think its possible to sweat off 2 stone in this way? And soon?

Dh has gone back to work today and I am all alone with THREE kids, man, its tough. Who created half term? It was a major mission walking to the shops in town and everyone moved out of our way and gave me these sympathetic glances. SOH you will be pleased to hear that because both ds and dd were so good they got a gingerbread man each

Lwatkins · 29/05/2007 13:36

Afternoon all

Feeling a wee bit better today, probably down to the fact that I seem to have a very good baby. Lottie has slept straight through from 12am to 6am for the past 2 nights without stirring one bit. 6 hours straight sleep - lovely stuff.

I'll second the dummy thing. C loves hers, she is a very sucky baby and if it wasn't for the soothers she would be permanantly latched on to my boobs! She is very settled now, before I started using them she was very demanding and couldn't really be put down. I wasn't getting much sleep but since I gave her one it's been a dream. The house is actually quiet! The only problem that I've found with using them is she now takes longer latching on to my boobs when feeding her. Seems to take her a while to determine boob from dummy.

M/w should be coming round today with the results from bloods she took from me yesterday, she thinks my iron levels are worse than what they were at hospital so wanted to test them again. She said she'd also be weighing C, curious to see if she has put on any weight. And also remove another one of my stitches - pleasant stuff.

Hope all are well and babies are behaving

lilKelBel · 29/05/2007 16:19

Hey ladies and babies!! One more bleary-eyed mum reporting for duty!!

(I was due 3 June but had a section on 25th May (Friday) so have been a bit of a cross-poster from May/June antenatal threads.)

Our new arrival, Sienna, is doing well, thanks to some major help from MIL with DS (14.5mo). Plus I started formula feeding after some horrific nipple trauma last night - had been hoping to go for longer this time round, but was just unwilling to endure mastitis again and the general agony of massively painful on-demand feeds every hour. I hope the tactic works cos I'm really feeling horribly guilty and tearful about it all.

Will attempt to catch up now - belated congrats to you all!

lilKelBel · 29/05/2007 16:21

pinkJ and others - just to say I also introduced the dummy - and felt like worst mummy ever for doing it so soon (day 4!) but now am relieved am not the only one! It's lovely and pink tho...

Pebblemum · 29/05/2007 17:08

afternoon all

Have had a lovely day so far, we went to Matalan and bought A lots of little clothes, we found that everyone had been buying her cute little dresses but we were short on sleepsuits that didnt swamp her and trousers for when the weather has been cooler. Im loving being able to buy girlie clothes for once lol

Midwife came out yesterday and A now weighs 7lb exactly so she has only lost 3oz, im not suprised the amount she seems to eat. I cant believe she is a week old today, its gone by so fast

Dh has gone back to work tonight and to be honest im glad. I love him lots but I have missed my peaceful evenings.

Im now off to change what seems like a very full smelly nappy, motherhood is such fun

Pinkjenny · 29/05/2007 17:51

We do the dummy thing in the evening which seems to work, but at this time of day not much seems to placate her and she won't suck the dummy at all.

Half the problem seems to be overtiredness, she is terrified of missing anything and seems to fight sleep. We try putting her down once we see the first yawn, but alas this little diva has other ideas.
