Thought i would start the offical May 2007 thread as it is May and we have now had our first offical May baby - even though we have 6 naughty babies who queue jumped and arrived in April .

Probably be a while before there are many messages but a least we have a thread now

OP posts:

Hello all (croaks weakly)

Good lord, what a few days..think I have had all of four hours sleep since was on here last..its not Mae..she has been brilliant..last night I fed her at 9, she slept till 3 then fed, then woke up at 6.30..star..its the other one..cough cough cough, scream, scream, scream all night, and then so upset all day..its impossible..she has been so poorly..Dr refused to give her anything even though her temperature has been ridiculously high for days and she is clearly in pain with her chest..numpty..he said, 'it will get worse before it gets better'..Could've decked him!
Lily and I spent most of yesterday sitting in the bathroom with the hot tap running to creat steam..(needless to say my hair was of comedy proportions by the end of it, but my skin has never looked better, bar the huge bags under the eyes

And to top it all off I now have sickness and diarrhoea! You have to laugh else you'd cry!Had one beer last night and it has made me quite ill..or it might have been the out of date egg mayo I had out of the fridge..it was the only food in the house and I was desperate..

Have to wait in for midwife to come and sign me off today..they can only say they will come between 9 and 5..helpful..not that im fit to leave the house anyway TBH..

Keep it up with the eating SOH..and REST UP!Else I will come round there..when ive the energy...and force feed you doughnuts till you burst..

How is your lo now Cam..with the cough?

Well done for trying with the exp LwandL..Lovely pics..I cant seem to put any on at the min. Will get DH on the case again..

Glad you are feeling better Mrs JB..

lol at Sainsburies bag Jonah..Im finding it difficult to manage getting both kids in the car..we have to park round the corner from our house so its who to put in first, then go back for the other?Or carry baby in sling, bag on shoulder, DD on reins so she doesnt get in road, and all go at once..crikey by the time ive done all that im too tired to get wherever I was going..

Hi TYG..Glad your nips are better!(only on MN could I say that to someone)Might come into London in the next few weeks to take baby to work and to Mac towers, so we could meet for a cuppa if you fancy?

Jolly good advice on the winding and that Befnal..you should right a book..Mae very windy and sicky and your tips are working a treat..

Lilkel..will get you on your other address..hope you are ok..

Since weather is so rubbish am now out of trouser options as fishermans pants are warm weather attire..am going to have to dig out MY velour pants!
Whats DH in Boston for Tam?3 weeks! If DH goes out for half an hour at the mo im sunk!Does not bode well for next week when he is back at work!

Love to everyone else Ive missed..

Must go,someones crying..(might be DH-he is downstairs with both girls )

Lupins71 · 16/06/2007 10:06

MKB thats soooo lovely, I know what you mean about not getting enough time just the 2 of you, dd can be so attention seeking as well when i am trying to spend time with A, I dont blame her but it would be nice to have bit more bonding time - gawwwwddd knows how we will cope in the holidays

Scoot hope you lo is better soon its not nice wheb they are all coughy and ill, thuer poor little throats get so sore, have you tried medised, lets hope you get some sleep soon

Well apart from yet another feed coming up yesterday evening I fed A about 11pm then at 2.30 then at 7.15 wooooo hoooo and he's still snoozin now!! I feel really refreshed, I am not expecting it to last but its nice to have a good sleep

BB how often and how much fennel tea do you give? Going to caversham today so might be able to get some

Have a good day all xx

cameroonmama · 16/06/2007 10:47

Aww Scoot, poor you and Lily, its quite horrible having croup. It shouldn't gone on for too much longer. Hope you are feeling better today too. I think J just has a rather nasty cold, he is vomiting/posseting his milk quite a bit because I think his tummy is full of snot so there is no space for his milk Still after staying awake for most of the day yesterday he slept from 6.45pm to 12.30 then 3.30 then 5.30 then 7.30 so we are getting there...

At least dh is back from his latest spy mission so he has taken the dc out to go bike riding. I have to take dd to extra ballet lessons for her exam (fgs she is only 5!) and tomorrow we are planning to visit some friends at the beach in N Devon, not quite Royan MrsJB!

Such a lovely post MrsJB about feeding Jorja and having a bath together

BefnalMilkBatBar · 16/06/2007 10:48

a tbsp added to the milk. when i make it i put two bags in a full teapot (4 mug pot) and leave it to brew for at least 20 mins + or leave to cool in pot then bottle in fridge.

for bf peeps i'm drinking it cold with added water throughout the day -its meant to increase milk supply too.

xx

madeindevon2 · 16/06/2007 12:20

Hi to all. Im feeling pretty good. so far recovery from c section is so much better than i imagined. Its just been the BP thats been the worry.
Freddie is great. feeing and sleeping well. He is such a contented baby so far. (only 11 days old tho!)
sry not really had chance to read much of thread. hope everyone is ok.

scoot...sry to hear about lily being ill still. hope everthing settles down soon.

cameroonmamma - where in n devon are you going?? i am from n devon and am there a lot. Taking freddie for first time next wednesday until Sunday. Normally DH are there every other weekend but havent been for 8 weeks now due to getting ready for baby and waiting for baby!! We have really been missing our place there so we cant wait. dh is desperate to show freddie off to our friends and family there to and take him to beach, for walks etc!

scootermum · 16/06/2007 18:02

Wish I was going to Devon..stuck in rainy old Hertfordshire..been signed off by midwife today so thats good..now the health visitor to see on Monday..she is lovely though and remembered me from Lily which is nice..

Glad you are feeling well MID..nice to have you back on..we will have to arrange a meet up so the babies can be introduced!

Apparently no one in Ware is selling their house..we have been looking all week and can find nothing at all..typical, when we first started looking there was loads..today have looked at two and they were so horrid that I actually cried.

Tried Medised Lups?!I have been feeding Lily it intravenously for the last 5 days!Am going to have a nip myself tonight for good measure..

Allegedly its going to be hot tomorrow..yay!We are thinking of going to Cambridge for the day..or the coast..think we all need to get out of the house a bit, sick or not..

JonahB · 16/06/2007 19:40

Scoot ? sorry DD1 is feeling so rough. I really feel for you. It?s hard enough without a toddler/yourself feeling rotten on top of everything else.

Ah, the wonder of Medised!!! I cannot recommend it enough . It?s the drug of choice for all my friends with DC?s. We all speak of it in hushed tones of awe .

We had a lovely day today. It was DS?s 2nd birthday today. We had a small b?day party for grandparents this afternoon and spend the morning walking round the block with DS?s new pushbike, then going to visit a friend. Lovely and not too stressful. I contemplated having a proper party for all of a nanosecond, until I realised that there was no way on this planet I could face it! The even-better news is that I?ve still got half an M&S chocolate cake sat downstairs with my name on it ( I could pretend I baked a b?day cake for DS myself, but I?d be a big, fat liar!!).

Hope all is well for the rest of you?..

Better go, DS2 has just started crying. Sigh.

cameroonmama · 16/06/2007 21:07

Hey MID, glad to hear you are recovering well, I feel almost normal now after my cs 5 weeks ago We are going to Woolacombe tomorrow, we live about 1.5 hours away in Somerset, near Glastonbury. Is Woolacombe in your part of the world? Dh is hoping to get some boogy boarding in, not much hope of that for me

I have never tried/heard of Medised - what makes it better than Calpol/nurofen?? Can you tell I have been living overseas for too long?

Jonah, happy birthday to your ds.

juliewoolie · 16/06/2007 21:40

does anyone have any cure for the screaming habdabs in the evening. A has taken to screaming the house down from about 6.30 onwards until he falls asleep about 3 hours later. Have tried infacol males no diff. Have tried feeding him swaddling etc end up wandering around with him chucked over my shoulder. Any advice really appreciated.

Lupins71 · 17/06/2007 08:14

Julie Bit late now I know but what about a warm bath and cuddle up to mummys skin under a dressing gown??? hope you got some peace

CAM medised was sent from the gods!!! it is paracetamol, so the same as calpol but it has something in that makes them drowsy and helps them sleep, great for when theyhave coughs and it wakes them each time they cough, or if they are ill and fretful and wont settle, just great in general, it really dose knock dd out - ahhhhh peace

Wooo Hooo got on the scales this morning 8.13st so chuffed to see an 8 instead of a 9 for a change!!!!!!! just got to lose 10 more lb if not a bit more to get to pre dd weight, I might be able to have more than 2 pairs of trousers to wear, if anyone wants to know how ive done it - weetabix!!!!!! 2 bowls of 2 biscuits a day and a full meal, still eating small bit of choc or a donut most days

Whats ev1 up to for fathers day, we have no plans letting him have a lie in and dd has bought him a jelly beans (american ones) tube,

Dp was feeling very weird after starting his pills last night he had to come to bed and said there was no way we would be able to drive feeling like he did - bless really felt for him, even gave him a cuddle

InTheseShoes · 17/06/2007 08:52

Morning all! Just adding my love of Medised, don't use it as much these days but it got me through some dark times... cam, it's like paracetamol, but with a decongestant in it, so your LO actually sleeps. I did used to find that prolonged use would make ds pretty grumpy, but then as he would have been grumpy without sleep anyway, and so would I,it was worth it!

Ted is doing well, can't believe how much easier I am finding feeding this time, it just shows that all babies are very different. He is waking up a bit more now he is two weeks old, I'm finding that 9pm - 11.30pm is a really wakeful time, but I'm not worrying about that just yet, time to deal with that later. We had a lovely sociable day with two lots of friends yesterday, and today we are going to go to our local fete (Jonah, are you going , it is always a fun day for the littlies) and to a 60th birthday so at least there is activity today and we are not stuck in the house.

Have a good day all!

juliewoolie · 17/06/2007 09:33

Thanks Lup, he did eventually calm down. He just gets himself in a real tiz and doesnt seem to be able to calm himself unless he goes to sleep which takes forever when he is like that.

Have a fun fathers day everyone.

aprilmeadow · 17/06/2007 10:07

Good morning

Sorry to hear that you & lily are still poorly scoot.

Julie glad that your little man did eventually settle.

Lups, well done on seeing an 8 on the scales, thats what i was like when i got to see a 9 again, abeit for 1 day before it got stuck on a ten again!

Have been quite busy for the last few days. Having our garden re-done this weekend, it currently looks like a pile of scrubs and mud. Ds is having a great time helping our friend whos doing the garden. E had quite an unsettled day yesterday which was hard going on us all. Thankfully she has gotten into a routine of having a 2hr snooze from about 10 (so now really) which allowed me to get showered and sort out one of the piles of ironing.

Turned ds's cot into a bed yesterday and night one went really well. He thought it was fantastic, he went straight to sleep and only woke twice, which was only because he fell out of bed We put a duvet folded up down the side of his bed as a just in case and it worked because he wasnt phased by the falling. He then woke at 5.50am and climbed the stairs to our room which was good as we were worried that he might go exploring.

Hope you all had a good night and have a good day today.

Hello All

Hope everyone's DH/DP's are having lovely, relaxing fathers day's. I sent my ex a card with some pictures of the baby in it from Charlotte but haven't had any recognition of it so far

Have spent all day watching the second series of American Dad and stuffing my face with crisps. Got back into a pair of my size 10 jeans, but half my wardrobe still doesn't fit. I think I look about 3/4 months pregnant still, have a jelly belly covered in stretchmarks. It's sexy stuff!

Lottie is still being a madam and won't go down in her moses basket, she prefers my bed. Spent 2 hours last night repeatedly putting her down in her bed only for her to wake up screaming every 5 minutes. Eventually got so tired and tearful that I gave up and just put her in with me. She was asleep within seconds! Gonna need to buy her her cot soon, hopefully she'll like that better.

Hope you are all ok and babies are behaving

aprilmeadow · 17/06/2007 16:37

LW&Lottie, Lottie sounds just like Ella She did just that for the first 6wks and then from about 6wks she would go down in her basket half the time and then about 2 weeks ago i tried putting her in the basket during the day rather than her falling asleep on me or in her buggy. It took a couple of days but once she got the hang of it we havent had too many times where she has come in with me. She is still only little mind so she is still adjusting to not being inside you.

BefnalMilkBatBar · 17/06/2007 17:19

we're having a lovely first fathers day - had buttermilk pancakes and bacon with maple syrup and latte's for breakfast, followed by a Hen picnic in st james' park. now trying to get L to sleep after all the attention!

JW i find putting L in the sling whilst i'm doing housework/wandering about works a treat when she starts screaming for no reason. very wearing but tends to settle her after a couple of minutes. its usually her being overtired/overfeeding as she tries to settle herself by feeding. v tiring - i feel for you! only had about 3 days of it over the first month if thats any consolation!

Janw · 17/06/2007 21:13

Dear All,

Thank you or your messages re: to routine or not to routine. Tes.

the midwife herself echoed what a lot of you have said that is that the little treasure will find his own routine in time. I feel that there is enough to cope with without feeling a failiure because I can't keep DS in a routine. I hope you can all bear with me while i am trying to get to know you all, seems loads of names. Also i am going to try all the entertainment techniques suggested. We have also a brilliant second hand baby 'gym' that Zooey, that's our son loves.

Got all excited the other night as Zooey went 3 hours between feeds and me and DH (hope i'm getting the acronyms correct), actually had some sleep and felt human, but then last night DS went back to waking every 2 hours or so, not crying but snuffling, snorting, crying out etc etc...oh well. We had rest this afternoon. Is it okay to leave baby to sleep a lot in the day?? DS falls asleep on the breast everytime and then naps, maybe this prevents him from sleeping properly at night??

Has anyone else had the problem of interfering grandparents re: the name of their child. MyMother can't help but interfere about the name we have chosen. WEll my partner chose the name as it is one he feels strongly about and that means something to him, and I have decided to let him have his choice as i don;t feel so strongly. Ever since I'v ehad hassle from mum and dad going on about how the child will be teased. i have tried to explain that children are called all sorts these days. but my mum gets angry ARRghhhhh. Anyway here's hoping we all get a good night's sleep.....(yeah right)....

scootermum · 17/06/2007 21:30

Hi Jan..

No hassle this time as we didnt tell anyone..but last time we were going to call DD1 Lola..And my parents went off the deep end about it and said it was a name for a sex worker..there were a few words said..I was livid as TBH, its nothing to do with anyone else what you call your child, everyone should pipe down IMO..I was very hurt they could be so rude..anyway as it happened we then went off it, (as a woman cam to work for me called Lola and she was quite horrid) and we settled on Lily instead..(Parents didnt like it at first but knew better by then than to say so!)

Well Fathers Day has been a tad dull..Lil up all night so Mummy and Daddy very tired..so we didnt go anywhere except Tescos..wild..(Mae was grand again though and only woke at 11.30 and 3 and 6.30, am waiting for some serious back lash from her!)DH very happy with his presents from both daughters though and now happily ensconced in front of the golf and simulataneously Real Madrids last game of the season so he is having a lovely eve..

I have just had a glass of Rose and am considering another..join me anyone?
Possibly due to said glass of Rose am slightly missing being pg this eve..not least missing all of you guys..(ha! perhaps will lay off the wine, thats how accidents happen!)

Lupins71 · 17/06/2007 21:31

BB sounds like a lovely day, we ate jelly beans and went to the park - we left dp to watch motorbikes in peace and cooked a nice roast dinner

Janw hello, glad you are not worrying to much about routine, I think because of thier feeding it is near impossible for at least the 1st few months, my little Arlen was a real snuffler when we got him home (he was in scbu for 3 wks, 2 months early - oooppsss) not sure if he snuffled in hospital but it was so bad dp went to sleep in the spare room lol

what do you do when you dc's hook up with friends you dont really approve of, dd has made friends with the girl a few doors up, she is nearly 8 dd is only 4, I dont know why but i am not sure about this girl, the family seem fairly uninterested in thier kids, the dog never gets walked and you can always hear them shouting at each other, I would never let dd round there as they are always playing in the street and i would never dream of dd doing this at her age, just not sure how to handle it, the little girls is a bit bossy and altho i am pretty sure dd can handle herself most of the time she did get really upset today that the other girl was trying to get her to do, it was only playing a game but she has never got that upset with any other friends, any advice ladies??

scootermum · 17/06/2007 21:39

Tricky that Lupins..I had a similar friend when I was little and the more my Mum didnt want me playing with her the more I wanted to..(although I was about 7 then I think so maybe DD too young to react like that?)Maybe just subtly not ler her round there if you are worried..like say she cant go because you are doing something else or whatever..trouble is then you will have to actually do something else, so it might result in lots of impromptu outings?

Bugger forgot..am not speaking to you, (8 stone) or LWandL, (size 10) until I have lost at least another 2 stone!

Lupins71 · 17/06/2007 21:39

Scoot - omg get off the vino if thats what it does to you hehehe!!! I nevvvveeerrr evvveeerrrr want to be pg again

I love the name lola, my friend had this with her dd and parents, she chose skye and her mum was livid, needless to say she kept it lol

Lupins71 · 17/06/2007 21:44

dont worry scoot - i still cant fit in any of my pre pg clothes, and i just had roast with forest fruit strudel and custard and 3 digestive biccis - erm think the scales will be back at 9 tomorrow
