Thought i would start the offical May 2007 thread as it is May and we have now had our first offical May baby - even though we have 6 naughty babies who queue jumped and arrived in April .

Probably be a while before there are many messages but a least we have a thread now

Scoot good luck for tomorrow, looking forward to hearing news

AM I am with you on the confidence thing this time round, I would have never tried to structure Willows feeds and felt demand meant demand -

Oh poor Arlen must say tho the 3hr feeds are working a treat - he needs an extra one about 8.30 in the evening so is doing 6oz in 1.5hrs, then gets woken up if hes not awake ready for the nightime nappy change and milk, havent been changing him at night unless it pooey, keeps him more settled, I read it in a book and its working great, plus it means we only use 1 maybe 2 dispoables a day the rest of the time its reusables, which are now working great

Got the useless hv coming tomorrow - dont know why but she annoys me

I will definatley be up for a London meet up - please not in the summer hols tho, not sure I could cope with Willow in London lol, can do most weekdays. Would be great to see some little bundles in the flesh

Right off to wake up my sleeping babe (I must be mad lol), night all hope you get a good nights sleep

lilKelBel · 05/06/2007 13:16

Scoot, also thinking of you and sending positive vibes!!!

I'm another routine devotee. In fact I put S. onto a 3 hour routine after just 4 days and thought it was going brilliantly because she didn't protest too much, but it's been kind of a disaster because she actually wasn't eating enough at each feed, and so failed to gain back the weight she lost after birth so we have had to revert to feeding on demand. Just till she gets some weight on, though...hope it's soon, it's so scary when they lose weight...

oops I hear her now, gotta go. Maybe we should have a new London meetup thread?

scootermum · 05/06/2007 13:24

Have just called the ward and they said to go in at 2.30, but also said, 'bring your notes' rather than 'bring all your stuff'...now im a bit worried as just assumed I would be staying till there was a baby..I hope they dont send me home again as have had enough now..
We have been gazumped on our lovely new house this morn as well ..so I at least want a child to console self with...

Mum has taken Lily to toddlers group..I got really upset saying goodbye to her....feel like im abandoning her a bit..

SKYTVADDICT · 05/06/2007 13:36

Hello all again, thanks for the best wishes - feeling better by the day.

Last night Callum was so good. I fed him during the second Coronation Street and he finished feeding at 8.45, was awake until 10.30 and fell asleep so we went to bed and the next thing we knew it was 4 am! He had gone over 7 hours between feeds and had been asleep for 5 1/2 hours. He then had a 20 min feed, winded and put down and slept again until 7.40! Thats the sort of night we want every night!

He has also been very good today. SOH, we are sure he smiled too, isn't it lovely.

Come on Scooter - we can't wait for you to join us.

SKYTVADDICT · 05/06/2007 13:37

Whoops - cross posted.

Good luck Scooter, thinking of you x

scootermum · 05/06/2007 13:58

AbbyLou · 05/06/2007 16:19

Best of luck Scooter, hope you're 'officially' here very soon!
Sky glad you are feeling so much better and well done Callum for a giving you a great night's sleep. It makes the world of difference doesn't it? Ruby too had a great night last night. It started terribly, I fed her at 7pm but her to bed and she cried (and yes I left her to cry, shame on me) for ages. However she did finally fall asleep and didn't wake until 2.15am. She fed for 20 minutes and then fell back to sleep immediately until 7.45. I wish we could have a night like that one every night. She has been good today as well and is curently having her second nap of the day in her own bed. We went into town this morning and she slept there too, I think the fresh air zonked her out. She seems to love being outside. She too has started to smile. It's rather infrequent but I melt every time she does it.

BefnalBub · 05/06/2007 18:55

good luck scoot xxx

Mrsjaffabiffa · 05/06/2007 20:36

hi all.

scoot, thinking of you today, hope you do get a bubba in your arms today. xxx

God, I'd love to meet all you lovely ladies and see the gorgeous babies, but I'm not sure I'm going to get a day spare whilst we are over. We are traveling the country with only a few days in each place. I'll see what day you come up with though and see where we are at the time. AM, I was hoping to catch up with you on the afternoon of Thursday the 12th July though if you are about? Going to visit L at Lunch time for a couple of hours and then thought we could go back via you as I did last time.

Lilkel, it's sad when they are not gaining weight, I know exactly how you feel. I took Jorja to the MW today to be weighed and it's not great again. She put on 50g the first week and now has only put on 130g in Two weeks. She is 3 weeks tommorow and still not back to her birth weight. The MW was really really helpful though and asked me to feed her there so she could see how she was feeding. Turns out she is a very lazy baby, she is latching well to start with but the adjusts herself after a few seconds and is feeding wrong. She is using her chin too much instead of her jaw which usually means she has her tounge in the wrong place around the nipple, apparently this means she is not stimulating the production of milk correctly. Probably explains why I never get hard boobs this time round. She was very supportive and gave me lots of hints for trying different positions to feed her in and told me that she knew how much I wanted to bfeed her so to continue for the time being. I have to see her next week for another weigh in. She also told me how important it was for me to eat, rest and drink well to keep my milk good. Could be part of the reason, but not that easy with 3 under 5 to deal with.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 05/06/2007 20:40

sorry

ShowOfHands · 05/06/2007 21:23

MrsJB- Mathilda had similar latch problems at the beginning- tongue in the wrong place entirely. The lovely lady in the hospital who sorted us out suggested before each feed I put my little finger in her mouth and hold her tongue down to the bottom of her mouth to 'show' her what she should be doing, latch her on and then repeat ad nauseum if she slipped until she kept her latch. It worked, took about 5 feeds of it though. She is now gaining about half a pound a week! Plus, the midwife said not to worry if they don't regain birth weight quickly, it takes three weeks for a lot of babies.

Scoot, hope to see you back on postnatal very soon. Ooh how exciting.

Got to rush, it would seem that Mathilda has got herself into her own routine. She does 4 hour stretches bang on in the evening and over night and then two hourly feeds during the day. Can't complain, she was feeding ever hour for the first couple of weeks. Can't believe she's a whopping 9lb 8oz already. That's 8oz she's gained in 5 days. She's a tank. She smiled at DH for the first time today, it was amazing. He sobbed. I sobbed. Pathetic really. She's a real little smiler.

ShowOfHands · 05/06/2007 21:24

I also found feeding her under my arm like a wriggling rugby ball helped her latch enormously, as did skin to skin feeding.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 05/06/2007 21:47

Thanks SOH, have been doing the rugby ball positon this evening, she does seem to latch better this way but it's not so comfortable for me. I'll try the finger in mouth thing tonight. I can't believe I'm having problems this time. h was OK and Maddie fed like a dream! No.3 causing trouble. pah! MW also said that people expect BF to be completely natural to all babies but apparently it's not to all and some need a bit of attention to get it right. She was quite insistent that I rest and take time to feed her. Her last words before I left were. You need to work less and your baby needs to work harder. lol, thought that was quite a good comment.
Mathilda is doing really well, I can't believe she is smiling aleady, bless! Oh and it's OK to cry at her firsts. Lovely!

Hope scoot is having a baby now.

Congratulations Intheseshoes, Sorry I forgot to say itin my last post. Love the name.

Off to bed now and start the in house training. xxx

Lupins71 · 05/06/2007 22:49

Abbey - wow great nights sleep!! good for you

MKG I found bf really tiring with dd, am finding it really easy with the bottle feeding but nowhere near as satisfying I really enjoyed bf

SOH Glad little Matilda is in a nice routine, did you get the cardy, hope it didnt get lost in the post

Arlen was really whiny earlier, ended up walking round the block about 9oclock this evening, then put him in his vibrating chair, then went against my regime and gave him a top up feed, must have needed it as he soon nodded off

AM - hope you dont mind I have passed on some on the clothes (1 carrier ba full) to a lady from freecycle, just a few pair of shorts and tshirts that will be out of season for A, her son was deprived of oxygen as birth and is now brain damaged he is 3 months now and she is so busy back and forth to the hospital she hasnt been able to work or even time to shop, made me feel so lucky that all our lo's are well and the least I could do to help

Hope Scoot is getting on ok, and good to her Carys is doing better

Got my friend over for tea and cakes tomorrow cant wait yum yum yum!!

MarsLady · 05/06/2007 23:42

Don't forget ladies that you can try lying down to feed. Sometimes that helps the latch and research shows that babies fed lying down react more instinctively.

scootermum · 06/06/2007 08:17

Hello all I've been told to call myself Mr Scoot!

Just to let you know that Mae Elizabeth was born this morning at 2.19am, weighing 8lbs exactly. Both mother and baby are doing really well.

Scoot herself may well be coming home at some point today so she will be able to tell yuo all about it then.

Also, just to say a big thanks to you all as I know that you have all been a big support to my wife since she began talking to you all, and I think its a great thing to be able to share both the ups and downs of pregnancy with others in the same boat.

Many thanks,

Mr Scoot

lilKelBel · 06/06/2007 08:21

Scoot has popped! Had a text from her saying:

"Mae Elizabeth, born at 2.19am, 8lb. Labour took only 4 hours, good! No pain relief, bad!All worth it in the end!"

Many many congratulations to you and your new little girl Scoot!!! x x

lilKelBel · 06/06/2007 08:21

whoops sorry Mr Scoot, cross-posted. We're all so happy for you!

BefnalBub · 06/06/2007 09:39

woohoo! congratulations mr & mrs scoot!
xx

AbbyLou · 06/06/2007 11:58

Posted on antenatal but congrats again Scoot family!

cinnamontam · 06/06/2007 12:14

Yay for Scoot. Got a text from her this morning. 4 hour labour!!!! That is on my birth plan for the next one.

Hey all - so much going on with everyone with all these little bambino's keeping us on our toes.

TYG - what a complete witch that midwife was to you you poor love!! If I wasn't having a baby blues day I would have been tempted to ask her to leave and send someone nicer. Unbeliveable

Tilda is doing great. Feeding every 4 hours, having more awake time and doing 5-6 hour stints in the night so I'm getting loads of sleep. My mum is here and my sister arrives on Sunday so lots of help burping, making meals etc... Will be quite terrifying when they all leave, DH starts his new job and then goes on business trips. I'll have been spoilt with all the help.

BB - you can bleed for up to 6 weeks after a birth and a couple of my midwives have said just when you think it's stopped you can get another full pad so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm definitely up for a July meet - just name date and places and I'm there

cameroonmama · 06/06/2007 12:43

Congratulations mr and mrs scoot, well done! We look forward to welcoming you 'officially' on the postnatal thread now

InTheseShoes · 06/06/2007 16:08

Hello! My first official post on the Post Natal Thread - yay!

Been home for two days and things are going fairly smoothly. Ted is feeding really well, which feels like a great achievement to me as I found feeding very hard with A, and struggled on for four months using shields and expressing, and the occasional formula feed. It was a relief when it was all over, but so far, thanks to preparation and great support at the hospital, and a breast feeding midwife friend on stand by at home, I actually seem to be able to do it this time. Night times haven't been fabulous, but bearable. Ted had terrible wind on Monday night, and my milk came in at the same time so we were a bit miserable, and basically I was up from 12midnight until 5.30am with him, trying to get him to feed, expressing and trying to wind him, ably aided by dh from 4.30am. Eventually ds took him off downstairs at 6am and I slept till 10. Last night was better - up 12midnight till 4.30am, mainly because all he wanted to do was feed, catching up from the night before. Tiring, but less stressful, as there wasn't much crying, just demanding to feed. Again, once he was off I got another block of sleep until ds came in at 7.15am. I have sent DH to the spare room for now, as DS is on half term and one of us needs to be compis mentis in the day, although my lovely Dad has taken him out for lovely treats today, so it's been peaceful.

I've increased Ted's daytime feeds now my milk has come on, and am making him feed every three hours, in an attempt to get longer stretches at night, does that sound right to everyone? Ted is mainly sleeping in between feeds in the day, which also sounds about right I hope? Midwife said that she didn't see why not. Anyway, if I have another wakeful night tonight, I'll try and keep him awake a bit more in the day tomorrow. It's all trial and error isn't it? He's so scrumptious I'm finding I'm not too fussed about the broken nights, although I am tired today.

In terms of recovery I am feeling pretty ok. My tummy is feeling good, I am sure that the arnica I started taking last week has really helped a lot. I'm on paracetamol and Diclofenac together for pain relief, and had the stitches out this morning, which has really helped, as they were beginning to catch a bit. Bleeding has much reduced, I think as they were quite quiet on the Delivery Unit, they cleared a lot of the cack out when they did the section.

In other exciting news, I had a pair of wedges delivered from La Redoute today, and was so excited that my puffy feet have reduced enough for me to try them on that I have been wearing them all day long - not sure on the exact heel, but 3-4 inches: I'm back baby!!!!! (I didn't choose my name for no reason you know )

Really pleased for the scooters, have added my congrats to the antenatal thread. I know JuicyLucyToo is left to go now, is there anyone else? madeindevon, did I miss an announcement from her? Looking forward to the final stats, I think we look like we might be coming out at about even for the boys:girls ratio.
