Hi Hockey. Glad Theo is doing well. He'll be bombing about soon and chatting so much you'll not know what hit you!!!

goodcatholicgirl · 23/02/2008 19:25

hockeypuck, I think from what a friend has told me that putting 2 or 3 words together at this stage is actually very good going?? Obviously you would know as you have an older DD, but it sounds as though Theo is doing just fine .

Climbing AAAARGH!!!
Out of the highchair and on to the table
Up on the dining chair and onto the table
Up on the computer chair and on to the desk
Belly flop on to the coffee table and drag self accross table
Into the bath (tries)
Out of the bath (just about manages)
Carries around bathroom step stool to help with reaching worktops.
Nowhere is safe anymore
HEEEELPPPPP!!!!!

WinkyGirl · 27/02/2008 10:37

Plama I am feeling your agony. Maddie climbed up onto the laundry basket lid so now the lid is in the cupboard and dirty laundry on display! And yesterday she climbed on her chair to open the front door and then stood there looking out the door.

My baby is due in 3 weeks. I remember fondly the days of breastfeeding for hours infront of the tv. Now I'll have to master feeding while running around checking Maddie isnt trying to maim herself...

Love to everyone and the DDs and DSs

goodcatholicgirl · 27/02/2008 16:16

winkygirl good to hear from you, forgot I had a fellow 'May06' MNetter having a baby soon too!! Blimey, 3 weeks isn't long is it??!! I have 9 weeks to go, if baby on time.

Can I just ask anyone who is still watching this thread, what you feed your lo's at dinner time now? I am having terrible trouble with DD, I think I gave her mashed food too long, and now she won't eat anything unfamiliar, either looks wise or taste wise. I am determined to try and nail this before the baby arrives, as otherwise I feel she'll be going to school eating mashed up food . She is fine eating finger food, sandwiches, cheese, fruit etc. Just not eating anything 'new' we offer. ONly ever has marmite sandwich or marmite on toast for lunch . I know it could be much worse, at least she eats, and pretty healthily, but OMG, it's driving me crazy now. It's been 4 weeks of trying. Tears at dinnertime as if she doesn't eat what we offer, she gets NOTHING ELSE!
BTW, she eats ANYTHING for the childminder but is only there for dinner one day a week.

Any advice???

WinkyGirl · 27/02/2008 20:54

Hiya GoodCatholicGirl you havent got long either. Hope it all goes well...

Maddie tends to have whatever we have for dinner but she does have her firm likes/dislikes. She will eat:-
Pasta swirls, bolognased minced beef, baked beans, sweetcorn, peas, broccoli, cooked tomato (plum or normal), sausage, bacon, salmon, pizza, meat filled tortellini, lasagne

Will not eat:-
Potato in any form, is a bit difficult with roast dinners, lately wont eat chicken

Hope that helps. Now I am off work again I hope to do some more recipes from my Annabel Karmel cookbook as she always loved those meals.

louismummy · 03/03/2008 22:43

hey there fussy eaters are a nightmare!!! ds2 eats better individual food always has done where as ds1 prefers not to know what he's eating! casserole works well for either! both love fish fingers. what about soup? cottage pie, mine really love the dark meat from the chicken ( which has more iron) i think its more moist, both like potato waffles. boiled eggs esp dipping soldiers into them. hope these might be of some help.

goodcatholicgirl · 04/03/2008 20:54

Thanks for your suggestions girls. I think it's just anything 'unfamiliar' to her. She eats a really good variety of very healthy (all home cooked) food, but anything we try to give her that's different from what she's had fo rthe last year is a big no no.
Today we were at a friend's house. I thought she might eat it as the other little girls were eating it but she refused. When I told her she would be hungry as there was nothing else on offer, she said " no cheese, no yoghurt", so it's obviously sinking in.....

Can't believe how few of us still post now . Life gets busy I suppose.

I know I will be relying on MN heavily again once baby arrives. winkygirl maybe we should have our own thread....." a baby born in May 06 and now another one" LOL!!!!

plama · 05/03/2008 19:44

My little one gets offered exactly the same as us at mealtimes- sometimes she eats it all, sometimes she doesn't. She has phases. The other day she had a whole pear and a chicken drumstick for lunch. Sometimes she eats all her carrots and cauliflower and has seconds, sometimes only the meat or fish. I reckon it all evens out in the end, so try not to stress about it. It does make me mad though when she turns her nose up at the food and chucks it on the floor. That's toddlers for you

goodcatholicgirl · 06/03/2008 19:53

Yay yay yay!!!!

Have had a bit of a breakthrough with feeding DD!!!!

Yesterday, she ate.......A FISH FINGER!!!! Has refused to even try last 4 times offered previously. She also ate peas (which she loves) but also, sweetcorn, which she has never had before, usually a complete no no to anything new!! I was so happy last night. I gave her loads of praise, told her she had made mummy very happy, and that she was SUCH a good girl for eating her dinner. Praise must have worked cos......she did it again tonight!!!!! double yay yay yay!!!!
We had chicken stroganoff last night, so I saved some for her (feeling brave after fishfingergate) but never dreamt she would actually eat it....but she did!!!! With mashed sweet potato and some little trees (brocolli!!) She has refused brocili before too.
She also ate greeb grapes at CM's today, has only ever had red grapes, and when I tried to give her green she refused to even try them.

I shouldn't get my hopes up too much, but I'm hoping she has finally learnt that mummy and daddy weren't going to give up!!!!!!!

Yipeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

goodcatholicgirl · 06/03/2008 19:53

Why can't I spell BROCCOLI ffs??!!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 10/03/2008 21:21

Hi All!! Lovely to catch up with you all and what our little ones are up to! We've been really lucky with Dylan and food, i remember him being an absolute dream to wean cos he really doesn't like milk much at all! He loves all veg, meat, pasta and tries new things so we have been quite lucky - so far! My mom makes him lots of nice teas too and whatever he sits down to eat, he says "nanny made it" as he tucks in!
My brother and his wife had a baby girl last week called Molly and we're hopefully going to see her on friday, can't wait! Still not broody though! My FIL is being a real pain, making suggestions that we had "better get going"(uuuuurrrgh) to have another, i had to walk away the other day cos i would have been really rude! I could see DH starting to cringe!
I'm really proud of myself cos i passed the advanced life support course last month and then had a letter inviting me to do the instructor course - not sure if i'll do it yet, but i was well chuffed!
Good luck to Winkygirl, keep us up to date!
Hope you're ok GCG!

goodcatholicgirl · 15/03/2008 19:54

All well here. Well, apart from poor Sophie who is not well . Just had a sickness bug last few days. Bit of a shame as I was up in Cheshire staying with a friend who's baby coming 2nd April (planned CS) and mine due 2nd May. She has a DS born 3 mths after Sophie, we were planning swmming and park etc but had to stay in and eat choc as poor Soph not well .

brummie Dylan sounds like an angel, and v cute!! Sophie talks so much now, I love it, we can have fairly decent conversations (IYSWIM!!). I love that she can make herself understood. When she kept being sick at friend's house, she kept looking at sick on sheets and saying "oh dear!!" and I kept saying "don't worry, Mummy will sort it out" so now she keeps saying "mummy sort it out". Bless her.

winkygirl - have you popped yet??? Must be due about now is it??? Keep us posted!! V excited for you.

Hope you are all well, keep the May 06 thread alive!!!

GCG (pre. luckymummy2sophie for those of you not sure!!)

hockeypuck · 16/03/2008 07:49

Hi Grils - I'm here too still, every now and again! Lovely to hear what your little may babies are up to now!

Theo is beginning to talk a little more, he's got tons of single words and is beginning to make little sentences "come on daddy let's go" etc

He still thinks that every hockey player's picture he sees is daddy though quite amusing

As for me, my professors are talking about me applying for funding to do my PhD, starting in 18 months or so when I finish my MSc. My MSc is going well and I'm even doing some freelance research for the police which is awesome

The hockey season finishes in 3 weeks and it'll be nice to have a little break from that work. I have a big awards ceremony to go to on Easter Monday where I have to announce the writers choice award - am having my hair and nails done in readiness and may need a glass or two of wine to steady the nerves!

plama · 21/03/2008 13:54

Happy Easter Everybody.
What plans have you all got? I'm at a bit of a loose end as DH is working 12 hr shifts all weekend and all the usual weekend activities,(toddlers, ballet, library etc) are off because it's Easter. Weather is horrible and we've already decorated easter eggs, made easter badges and been to the shops. Any suggestions???

goodcatholicgirl · 22/03/2008 14:53

plama ditto. My DH is working all over Easter too. My parents are here for the weekend, so I am keeping them amused (or rather, DD is!!). How about the park if the weather settles a bit??

hockeypuck MSc's and PHD's...???? Blimey, what have I done with my life!! Nuff respect to you love, not my bag. Just one bog standard degree enough for me. I've seen too many friends lose the plot and their social life for 3 years doing MScs. Good luck to you, esp with kids too. As I said, 'nuff respect' !!!!!

For those of you who haven't seen on birth announcements, winkygirl had a little boy on Sun 16th March, called James Christopher....

only 6 weeks to go for me.....

GCG (luckymummy)

WinkyGirl · 22/03/2008 15:12

Hi All, sorry I have been slacking...

Here is the birth announcement. Am typing this one handed as am breastfeeding. Had forgotten how much hard work this newborn lark was!

Birth Announcement

Rest assured the bit after the birth is very very rare...

goodcatholicgirl · 22/03/2008 15:23

Hey winkygirl!!! What are you talking about slacking, you've just had a baby for goodness sake. Hmmmm, slightly concerned at comment on forgetting how hard newborn stage is......

Keep us posted on how things are going.

Thinking of you lots!!

WinkyGirl · 22/03/2008 16:27

Not long for you GoodCatholicGirl - hope you are feeling ok?

I am finding it easier this time round in that I know what to expect, how to breastfeed, that it WILL get better/easier etc. But blimey I had forgotten baby blues, anaemia, how fragile and unpredictable newborns are and what it feels like not having a routine...

I promise to post in a week or so saying how easy it is!!!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 24/03/2008 21:27

Congrats WinkyGirl and BLIMEY, never heard of that before!!!!
Glad you are all ok and at home now

AbbyMumsnet · 25/03/2008 14:51

Hello all - sorry to barge in, but if you haven't already done so, would you think about completing our sleep survey here? If you do you'll be entered into a lovely comp to win £1250 of rather special, children's furniture. Thanks ever so!

goodcatholicgirl · 26/03/2008 12:33

winkygirl How's it going?
I'm 35 weeks on Friday. Been feeling good, amazingly better than with DD, even though I have a toddler now too!! Much less SPD and lower back pain. Just getting to that stage where i really need a nap in daytime when DD naps. Also I think the nesting instinct has hit again.....poor DH!!

I have been thinking about you lots and how you are getting on. Was James born on time??Early?? late??? Can't remember your due date?

LittleFairySmile · 26/03/2008 15:04

WinkyGirl ? congratulations and yikes!!! Have posted on birth story thread!

GCG ? hope all goes well with your new addition!! Remember to let us all know when you post the birth story!!

Plama ? DS also climbs onto kitchen table, and he too carries bathroom stool to help with reaching things (so clever, but still ? grrr)

BrummieMomInMerthyr ? well done on passing the advanced life support course! And I know what you mean about people saying ?so when are you having the next one? ? I just want to shout ?Mind your own business FFS!?

Hockey ? glad masters is going well. I finished mine when pg with DS. Hubby finished PhD last year! So much more work than I did for my masters! Not sure I?d take that on just yet ? not with DS, and possible another at some point in the future maybe. Might do when he/they are older ? much older!! Good luck tho for you!!

WinkyGirl · 26/03/2008 19:31

GoodCatholicGirl DD (May 06 baby) was one week late. DS (new baby) was 5 days early. Not only were the labours different, so are their natures. DD used to scream and scream and was very alert. Breastfeeding her was a nightmare. DS is (so far) a very placcid easy baby who feeds very well every 3 hours.

I have to agree that I too found the end of the second pregnancy much easier. As was the birth. I had a lot more emotional strength dealing with the contractions.
Good luck!

LittleFairySmile I finished my MA around the time we conceived DD. I have vowed to start my PhD when I am 40 (9 years to go!) But I might just regret that when the years start ticking by...!

LittleFairySmile · 26/03/2008 20:14

I'm not making any rash promises to myself re. PhD - I saw how much it took from my hubby. At the end, to get it done in 3 years, he was putting in 20 hour days, I kid you not! He was literally dead on his feet at times!
