Yipeee SAHM!! Congrats!! Sophie seems so near yet so far.cruising away and even standing indep for up to 20 secs or so...

hotchocscot · 25/05/2007 00:04

Hello I am fairly new to mumsnet but my wee one turns one this month too, in fact tomorrow. Well technically today as its just turning midnight. Was anyone else really emotional or just me? feel quite weepy, that he's here and lovely, that a year ago he was still inside me, that he seems to be more of a toddler than a baby every second, that I never knew I could love another human being so so SO much! right, i'm off to bed before i get worse...

luckymummy74 · 25/05/2007 12:27

hotchocscot - I was emotional too, my dd was one a week ago. It's allowed!!

Happy Birhtday to your lo, hope you have a nice day

plama · 25/05/2007 13:50

Hello
Glad I'm not the only one to feel emotional when my baby turned 1 (the champagne didn't help)
I also feel a bit sad that I'll never have a tiny baby again- I was v ill with hyperemesis with both girls and couldn't put them through that again - even if I could. Loads of people at toddler group are pregnant and I do get a pang....... I suspect it's just an instinct that us women get.
Still DD2 is just fab ( so is DD1 btw )
She's not walking yet but has the most fantastic chuckle.
Have just been buying UV sunsuits on the net for DD1. DD2 is getting the cast offs. Hope the summer is nice now I've spent all the money!
Enjoy the long weekend everyone

Happy Birthday to all those I missed while I was away.

plama glad that the tests went well, hopefully they'll leave you to it a bit now and stop fussing about her dinkiness. My friend went through this with both of her children, they're cute and dinky too and right as rain otherwise.

Back now from a horrible holiday, had a long moan about it on chat. Theo's really poorly and I've spent the last 2 nights with him in hospital. He's home now but all floppy and feverish still so I'm looking forward to this virus running it's course and seeing him smile again.

SO sorry Theo's ill Hockeypuck, it's truly the WORST feeling when your lo is in hospital / poorly. Niamh was up at the hospital last Friday with convulsions. Apparently she had a reaction to some pineapple the nursery gave her (which I find an odd thing to give to a toddler, but never mind!) and got very very hot, so the shakes / convulsions set in. She's fine now, and I missed most of the drama coz I was at work, but it was VERY scary. so glad it only lasted a day or two, my heart goes out to you and Theo, and wish him a speedy recovery

xx

SAHMof1 · 30/05/2007 14:37

Hockey, I hope Theo gets well soon.
Squidgeymiller, I hope Niamh is OK now. We give pineapple to our LO. Have done for ages. He loves it. Should we not?

plama · 30/05/2007 15:50

Gosh, big hugs to everyone whose lo's have been in hospital - there's nothing worse. They really know how to worry you don't they. Get well soon.

SAHMof1 · 31/05/2007 09:46

Hi all. For the next couple of months (until we have moved and have settled in) I will not have internet access at home. I might be able to get to an internet café or the library every now and then, but I don?t imagine I?ll be around for a while. So ?til I?m back online, keep safe!

sniff · 01/06/2007 07:30

My little girl is one tommorrow I cant believe how quick its gone

I hope Theo is feeling better

Its really been great catching up with what all the LO's are doing

asur · 02/06/2007 19:44

Happy Birthday to your LO sniff - scary how fast the last year has gone, isn't it?!

dollydumps · 03/06/2007 19:54

Hi - Not been on this thread before - just getting to grips with MN after finding it last week on the internet (what did I do with my evenings before this?!)
My little girl was one on 6th May and it's so refreshing to hear everyone's stories of their LO's funny little ways. You think only your wee one does these things!
My DD has 6 teeth and crawls at a shocking speed (usually towards anything mildly dangerous). Up on her feet but not walking yet (much to grandma's utter disappointment). She's got a real addiction to cuddly toys which appeared not long ago - really amusing when Ted is in the washing machine and she sits following him go round and round with her eyes (think she gets a bit seasick at the spin cycle!)
Sorry to crash your thread - it's just nice to speak to others who have a lo the same age as mine. xx

squidgeymiller · 04/06/2007 20:05

Hi Dollydumps - welcome to the thread, and don't be silly about crashing!

not sure if pineapple is a weird thing to give a toddler SAHMof1, but seems to be warned against during pg coz of the strong effects it has, so wouldn't have throught it would have been the best of ideas for a lo. If your lo loves it and is ok with it there's no reason why not, we give DD crunchy nut cornflakes for breakfast, coz she only mugs us for ours if we don't. We prob shouldn't but she loves them and hasn't had any reactions so why not??

It's all a matter of finding what your lo will / won't / can / can't eat, which is fun enough in itself

hockeypuck · 05/06/2007 09:54

My health visitor told me to give Theo pineapple last week because of the water content and because it would probably help him poo! (the fever, lack of eating, calpol etc had bunged him up a bit). Seemed to do the trick and will try it sooner next time.

I guess if a lo has some adverse reactions to food etc it's a good idea to be watchful with some fruits like strawberries, watermelon and pineapple etc, as it is with nuts and egg. Thankfully Theo has been ok with everything so far, which makes up for his peskyness in other ways

Oh and Hi Dollydumps - always welcome on this thread. Your lo sounds very cute with her teddy

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 05/06/2007 16:29

Hi all, welcome dollydumps!
Haven't posted for ages, but have been quickly reading about all your lo's progress!
I was told i would have to eat 6 pineapples a day for them to have any effect while i was pg, so sure all will be fine!
Hockeymum, sorry your hol was not so relaxing missed your thread on chat so don't know what happened, but i hope your utterly gorgeous Theo is ok now! (it's good to leave a message for you now i know what you look like, iyswim)
Well, Dylan is still not walking, but does crawl very quickly, sounds just like dollydumps dd!! (and the disappointed grandparents bit, lol!!) His first day at nursery was last week which he seemed to take in his stride v well, but it was me that needed comforting when i got to work the nursery is next door to where i work and i was watching him play outside this morning from the ward - that was great!!
Hope everyone is ok.

thebecster · 06/06/2007 19:36

Hi all

So sorry Theo wasn't well Hockeymum I seem to age about 5 years every time Oli is poorly, I swear I didn't have any wrinkles at all before his last bout of bronchiolitis and now I look like Dot Cotton...

I'm glad others are emotional about our LOs turning 1. I get all wistful when I see tiny babies out & about. Where did my baby go? He's been taken & replaced by a rambunctious toddler! And god, is he ever rambunctious. I am KNACKERED!

Dollydumps, welcome to thread, and it did make me smile about the competitive-grandma thing. My Mum is spitting blood that Oli shows no inclination to talk. She asks every time I speak to her on the phone. Funny, none of the Mums I know are remotely competitive, but grandparents seem to get it bad!

dollydumps · 07/06/2007 21:37

beckster,

I have to agree on the talking thing too. My dd now does the whole "oof, off" thing when she sees a dog, and my mother thinks it's fab. Unfortunately she tries to show all her buddies and dd doesn't seem to want to do it on demand! Cue mother "What does the doggy say", Cue dd - blank sorta 'what the hell you going on about granny???' expression. As soon as noones bothered though it's "oof, oof, oof...". Tee Hee! She's twisted and only 13 months what will she be like as a angst ridden teen?!

Actually, a lot of the mums I know are quite competitive, especially on the whole sleep issue. Does anyone else find that?

PS Thanks for all being so welcoming! I'm off now, going to pack for dd's 3rd flight of her short life so far. This ones only an hour to see my sis, the last 2 were 11 hour jobs to Thailand at 11 months - what was I thinking!!! xx

squidgeymiller · 09/06/2007 10:51

I know what you mean re the talking thing dollydumps - dd used to say "ba" if you said what does the sheep say? but as soon as she cottoned on to us wanting her to say it on demand she stopped, and won't say it at all now!

Most of the mums I now aren't competetive, apart from one, who's always asking how long DD's sleeping, how long she naps, how many bottles she has etc...... and then tells me how fab her dd is - thing that bugs me is that her dd is 3 months older than Niamh, so whe will be doing more! I don't compare our dd's because of the age difference but she seems to really enjoy the fact that her dd is further ahead than Niamh - silly moo !

luckymummy74 · 14/06/2007 18:58

Hello everyone! Sophie is trying to talk, doing 'moo' for cow, a kind of snort for pig, and 'oof off' for dog. So cute, but as previously mentioned, not on demand, so when I try and impress my family with it (don't think I'm competitive, it's just cute !) she just gives me that blank look too!!! HA HA HA! Dontcha just love 'em!!!

I have 3 friends with newborns at the mo, and it makes me realise how 'easy' things are now compared to then. Plus, they are so much more interactive.

one last thing, today I was just thumbing through a catalogue while dd played, and then she wanted to have a look, so I let her, and she sat there, no word of a lie, licking her index finger before she turned each page with it (obviously like she'd seen me doing)!!!!!!!!!!! It was so cute and really made me laugh.

dollydumps · 14/06/2007 21:48

So proud - dd has cut her first molar! Poor little soul's been in a bit of pain the last couple of nights. I've heard a few really blood curdling screams in the middle of the night and thought she was dreaming (very well tuned into my daughter - NOT!)then managed to get a feel at the top gum tonight and surprise, surprise a new tooth.
Isn't it amazing how they cope so well with all the horrible bits of their development without batting an eyelid. I find it incredible. Think I must be really lucky cause she just seems to sail though every little hurdle with minimum fuss. I'm feeling quite loved up with my wee superstar tonight incase you hadn't noticed!!! Just going to take a peek at her all cuddled up in her cot...

hockeypuck · 15/06/2007 07:56

that's good dollydumps. Theo seems to cut each tooth with a week of agony, high temp and general whineyness!

Boy is he going to have to toughen up if he wants to be an ice hockey player!!

He also gets really upset if he sees people falling over. We watched DD's favourite you've been framed the other day and he kept laughing when DD did, but then when he watched someone fall over on the TV he burst out crying till the next clip came on. Literally every time, it was like laugh, cry, laugh, cry, laugh, cry for half an hour - the little weirdo!!

squidgeymiller · 16/06/2007 10:41

Oh Hockeypuck that's so cute!!! Glad you're all loved up at the mo dollydumps. DD is more like Theo with teething, screaming in the night, chewing everything, drouling, and usually a hefty bout of diarrhoea (so she can't go to nursery) for a week before the tooth emerges. Seems like she's got her two top molars coming at the mo, deep joy xx
