becster - I'm glad you're beginning to feel a bit better, but it's hardly time off work with a busy one year old! Hope you're managing to get rest too, you've had a bit of a mad year with illness you and Oli.

I agree I can't stand it when they use the term hyperactive on a child so young. He's been really advanced physically and that is why he is so active, he's able to use his body really well and getting better at it every day. True hyperactivity only comes at the age of 4 in nursery when they find a child who is unable not to be active and sit and listen with other children. Not many one year olds or even three year olds can sit quietly and listen and they are not expected to yet, because their physical abilities far outstretch their social understanding.

He sounds lovely, active and normal to me. Enjoy him

Hi all

Hope everyone and their lo's are well. Haven't been on in a very long while, about a year or so - can't think why... (BTW, used to be TheIncubator.) Monty's b'day was on 19th April but he was due on 28th May (impatient little bugger) but thought I'd stay on the May thread if that's ok.

Great to catch up with all your news. Sorry to hear about the poorly ones. Hope all is well now. Monty had chicken pox a few months ago but didn't seem to suffer too much. Glad to have got that out of the way when he was so young. Unfortunately I got meningitis (mild form) from his chicken pox (didn't know that could happen either) so was feeling pretty rotten trying to look after lo whilst hardly able to get off the sofa.

Can't believe how much he's changed or that he's over a year old. He's not fully walking yet but prob not far off and has decided that he wants to start crawling and walking at the same time. Strange child. Not really saying much yet, lots of dadada mama ooo's etc. also quite a lot of weird singing with the odd ear splitting shriek thrown in for good measure. Although he does sometimes say 'be be' for bye bye now. Cute. HV sent him for a hearing test a while ago which seemed to be ok apart from a bit of congestion. He's going for another one on Monday, hopefully all will be ok. Obviously worrying a bit that he's not communicating verbally but I guess they do everything in their own time. Got 8 teeth but never wants them brushed! Mouth goes like a clam whenever the toothbrush goes near it. Although mouth strangely opens for everything else!

Just had a fab 2 wks in Spain, got a villa with a pool. Of course now that lo's crawling it was 'attention all eyes' especially as he absolutely loved the pool so he'd make a bee line to it every chance he could. Scary!

Haven't done the MMR thing yet. Worried about that too. Still trying to decide whether or not to do them separately or together...

Sorry for the long post.

xx

By the way, also went to the mud fest that was Glastonbury - not with lo I hasten to add. First proper festival, first proper camping, first proper (?!)outdoor 'sanitary' experience - weirder than weird (sorry if tmi). DH amazed that I didn't demand to go home immediately.

Even though the weather was mad I'd go again (DH also amazed at this.)

dollydumps · 03/08/2007 20:42

Hello everyone!

Just thought I'd pop in since I'm seething with my dad. He takes Abbie one afternoon a week whilst I work, and when I went to collect her yesterday, they'd clearly had a rough afternoon! She was grumpy, he was MORE grumpy, next thing I know she's sitting in the middle of the carpet screaming her lungs out and he's shouting at her for crying while he's trying to watch the news. Yes - actually shouting. Yes - at a 15 month old. Yes - for CRYING??? Gee that's really going to help.
Totally fuming, I scooped her up and walked out.
Mum popped in today and informs me that he's raging with me for not letting him say bye to my DD. Honestly!!! Shouts at her, tells me to take her home, and is annoyed with me that I walked out. HELLO?! Oh, and he hasn't contacted me today to apologise.
Sometimes I think paid childcare is just so much the easier option. Does anyone else have probs using their family to babysit or is it just me? Sometimes I feel like it's just too much hassle and that I owe my dad for looking after his one and only grandchild for 5 tiny hours per week.
Sorry for the moan, had to tell someone, before I burst with anger. GRRR!

P.S. Lovely to hear about all your lo's and glad to hear all the babies and mummies are well!xx

tron · 04/08/2007 07:34

t in totally the opposite way when I went back to work after DS . She wouldn't do things the way I wanted. She's cry to FIL if something I saidupset her - kept on about she'd done it before she had 2 kids so she knows what she's doing more than me. Then FIL would phone me at work saying I'd upset his wife etc. In the end DS went to a childminder and we didn't speak for about 18 monts. DD went to sme childminder straight away and pil and me get on so well now we are all going to cyprus together tomorrow. Me and dh nearly split up bercause of it. We all had it out and to be honest I think every one is happier this way. PIL still have kids and really enjoy them plus they've got freedom.

Hi Hockeymum - I do facebook -I've found loads of people I was at school with ans stuff. Alice Maxwell (no network) is me!!

Glad you are beginning to feel better becster

Also ia anyones lo having tantrums?? Erin has started getting so cross if she doesn'rt get what she wants - screaming and throwing herself of he floor mmmmmmmmmm it's driving me nuts!!!!!

BrummieMuggleInMerthyr · 04/08/2007 21:54

I'm on facebook too! Hockeymum, i've requested to be your friend, and Tron, i'm about to ask you too! So when you see a dodgy woman smiling at you with a baby, you know it's me!! (My name is Tamsin, just in case

MontysMummy · 06/08/2007 00:42

Hi all

Can't sleep so thought I'd pop in. Typical. Lo sleeping soundly but I'm not.

Tron - I'm also getting tantrums from my lo. Getting a bit concerned seeing as we're quite a long way off 2. Major screaming fits if he doesn't get his own way. (Sounds a bit like DH now I think about it...) Can be flat out on the floor but that's usuallly if he's tired. Also finds the word 'no' very amusing...

louismummy · 14/08/2007 10:27

hey there everyone sorry its been such an age since i've posted. We're all fine here. Ds1 has finished his chemo and is going well, apart from having terrible temper tantrums and then sqeaking like a baby which is infuriating when he can talk well ( he's 3)
DS2 had a check last week for his E.B. which they're really happy with, but there are unhappy with his growth, he is putting on weight but too slowly. He went from a 91% at 4 months to under 9% at 15 months! he is very lively runs everywhere and kicks a ball really well. catch up soon.

hockeypuck · 20/08/2007 14:38

louismummy - thanks for the update, I'd been wondering how your ds's were. Good to hear that DS one is coping well with the treatment. FWIW at 3 they tend to have another little terrible 2 stage when they step up the behaviour a little for a while. Sending a dose of patience your way!

Glad DS1 is putting weight on, albeit a bit slowly. What a trooper though running round and kicking a ball! DS is still scooting around on his bum, but he does have a mean underarm throw, so we'll work with what we've got for now!

asur · 21/08/2007 13:36

Hi all. DS1 has mastered the art of tantrums too - glad I'm not alone! He's also prefected the 'I'm completely innocent and never did anything wrong' face!

This morning he did a wee in his potty!! We have a potty in the house just to get him used to it. He spends most of his time in the house without a nappy and this morning he went and pulled the potty out and did a wee in it! I don't expect him to be 'trained' but it would be good if he used the potty some of the time as it might save our poor carpet!

DS2 was stillborn 3 weeks ago so I'm on maternity leave just now which means I'm spending much more time with DS1 - scary how much I was missing when working fulltime, he changes so much and so quickly. They grow up fast, don't they?!

hockeypuck · 21/08/2007 20:48

asur - I'm so sorry to hear about DS2. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I do hope that you continue to enjoy the precious time off work that you have with DS1.

Thinking of you [hugs]

asur, so sorry and for you and your family. Thinking of you and big hugs

louismummy · 22/08/2007 10:19

asur I'm very sorry to hear your news. sending lots of hugs. louismummy

SAHMof1 · 22/08/2007 17:22

I?ve been reading though, there?s a lot of catching up to do.

Asur, I?m sorry to hear of your loss. I?m glad you are enjoying being with DS1.
Louismummy, I?m glad things are fine and going as well as can be expected.

And to everyone else, with nasty PIL, poorly babies and mummies, you are all in my prayers.

WinkyGirl · 23/08/2007 20:27

Oh Asur I am so so sorry to hear that you lost DS2. I was wondering earlier how you were getting on. Sending love

Maddie is fine. She doesnt say much (stuck at the Mama, Dada, door and head shakes for no stage.) And at the moment she thinks her potty is a toy!

tron · 24/08/2007 21:10

oh asur i'm so sorry - i was just thinking about you the other week, wondering how you were getting on

SAHMof1 · 05/09/2007 15:08

We?re none of us very chatty at the mo?!

Went to our first Tumblers in our new area today. DS running around like a mad thing, so he enjoyed it, but I ask you, why is making new friends with other mothers so hard!! Not cold shoulder so much as ?who are you? and ?why are you disturbing our established group? looks.

Hey ho!

hockeypuck · 07/09/2007 10:34

SAHMof1 - it does get much easier with other mums when the little ones start nursery. I found it really hard to make real friendships with other mums at playgroups, tumble tots etc with dd but as soon as she started nursery school at 3 I got a bunch of great friends among the other mums and the continual round of parties in nursery and reception helped a lot! Stick with it, a lot of people unknowingly put on an air of arrogance when really they lack self confidence. You'll get there eventually with someone!

hockeypuck · 19/09/2007 14:53

Brummiemum - he's still a little heartbreaker isn't he?

Haven't been on for a while cos I'm starting my MSc this week. I also have 2 new part time jobs. One (a dream job) of writing for ice hockey programmes and interviewing hockey players (yay) and the second fundraising for a charity.

I've added a photo of DD and DS dressed up for DD's 5th Birthday on my profile for you girls. It's not on the main page, you have to click the photo page but it's there.

Can you lot add some more too - I want to see how your lovely boys and girls are growing!

well nursery have been complaining of loose nappise for ds2 had a look tonight and he's getting his second molars, can't belive it!! so is now excused for night waking and putrid nappies. He comes with teething so much better than ds1 did. i'd love to add a photo to page but i'm crap at it. will try harder.
