Thanks Hockeypuck, seems to have done the job for now x

Hi all,

feel like I haven't posted for AGES. Just not had much to report. I'm hoping DS has a tooth coming in - he's developed a little nappy rash and that's usually followed by a tooth. Hopefully won't upset him too much.

he's going to get his MMR and HIB/MenC booster tomorrow. Am having to take him on my lunch break! Appointment was supposed to be wednesday when I'll be off work but they changed it at the last minute! DH is a big chicken so won't take him. I'm sure he'll be fine though!

He is almost walking - he can manage a few steps when he's not thinking about it! He is really cute though, he gets all excited and forgets to move his legs and just falls forward. He never hurts himself, just gets up and laughs (mainly coz we're laughing at him too!)

Right, I'm off to eat some gorgeous strawberries I got today - don't you love summer fruits?! Yumm

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 27/06/2007 12:25

Hi all, it was Dylan's MMR and pnemo booster today, poor love! And poor mommy cos daddy usually does the holding for the injections but he had to do some interviews this morning so i was on my own !! He was great though, took it all in his stride as usual!
We're having some disturbed sleep again at the mo, Dylan has taken to waking up between 2 and 4am and not wanting to go back to sleep unless me or dh are in the room, anyone else having this at the mo? Health Visitor said it was normal (as usual!) and it was a form of separation anxiety. Hope it passes soon though, we're all knackered
Still no steps on his own yet, but zooming around pushing his walker
Hope you are all well x

thebecster · 29/06/2007 15:48

Oli caught measles, dammit, he'd just turned 12 months! So we didn't have an MMR appointment yet... But dr has advised he should still have MMR. Luckily he wasn't too ill, could have been worse. But I caught measles off Oli & got mild encephalitis, which made me really poorly, am only just recovering now. Oli was so sweet while I was ill - he kept tottering quietly into my room & putting a toy on my pillow, and tottering out again, as if he'd thought 'poor mummy, all alone in that dark room all the time, I bet she's bored, I'll take her a truck to play with'! Oh, aren't they just so sweet? It makes my heart ache to see how innocent and loving he is. He is now saying 'Hiya' and waving to random people, and according to the nursery he also says 'What's that?' but we haven't heard/seen him do it. At home he mostly just babbles away with the same intonation as if he was saying a sentence, but without actually forming real words. So cute. He has no clue what cows or sheep say, but he knows that cars go brrrr brrrr and trains go chuff chuff chuff. I'm blaming the fact that he's a Londoner
All best to all the little ones.

asur · 30/06/2007 20:14

Thebecster - that is really bad timing Oli getting measles just before his MMR was due! Glad he didn't suffer too much and glad you're feeling better. Healthy vibes to you both!

Very sweet of Oli bringing you toys - DS does this too, I always wonder how he knows I'm feeling ill/down but he always does and brings me something which is supposed to make me feel better. (toy doesn't help me but his smiling face usually does the trick! )

I forgot to mention in my last post that DS has stopped bfing! He hasn't asked for about 2-3weeks now. He doesn't even seem to miss it! Very strange, he saw my boobs the other day (while I was getting dressed) and he seemed totally shocked like he'd never seen them before. Funny how he can forget something so quickly - guess it means he's growing up though (or has a memory like his mums!)

dollydumps · 01/07/2007 21:03

Asur,

Know what you mean about the breastfeeding thing - when I gave up Abbie started to look at them in bewildement if I was in the bath with her. That's now proceeded to her tweaking my nipples in the bath and shrieking with laughter. Little rat - hope that's a phase she'll get over soon, or she'll be bathing solo in future!!!

Incidentally, she took her first steps yesterday, when I was working (CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED IT)so it'll be fun and games from now on. Don't they just grow up soooo fast. Glad I only work part-time, couldn't cope with missing too much. xx

SAHMof1 · 02/07/2007 19:22

Just dropping in to say hi ? am using the internet at my folks, move still in limbo! Sorry to hear about all your woes Becster, Brummiemom and Hockeymum. Thinking of you. Hi Dollydumps, and big kisses to everyones? LOs.

tron · 02/07/2007 19:51

thought i'd pop in and say hi. sorry to here that so many lo's have been ill and some mummies too.

Erin has been fine (touch wood). She walking well now and even runs - giggling all the way with her curls bouncing!!! She'll still eat anything, I wish her big brother would. She still only has 3 teeth, just. 2 at the bottom and 1 fang - looks funny but still cute.

Getting v broody seeing all the tiny babies that seem to be around at the moment - dh says forget it now way can we have more - i'll have to keep working on him

Hope everyone stays well, alice xx aka tron

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 03/07/2007 15:31

the becster, for you and Oli, glad you're both better now. I laughed when i read Oli knows what cars do cos he's a Londoner, Dylan know sheep say baa, and we live in South Wales bless em!!

thebecster · 09/07/2007 12:57

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone... Have been poorlier still - the encephalitis turned into meningitis (ie meningo-encephalitis - you can tell it's nasty by the number of syllables...). Am on the mend now.

Oli has increased his repertoire of sounds to include the Tube (which goes 'EMMMMMmmmm' ) We really must take him into south wales so that he can learn what sheep say like Dylan! The only wildlife he's seen so far is in the park & consists of tramps & their dogs-on-ropes... He's having a very different chiildhood to mine. At least he'll never have to muck out the pigs at 5am!

He had his first ever haircut on Saturday. Felt a bit wistful when I read about Erin's bouncing curls - all Oliver's curls are in a paper bag in his baby book now. But it was getting in his eyes, (she says, with a heavy sigh!). Oh why do they grow up so very fast...?

tron · 14/07/2007 10:38

aaawwwwwhhhh becster re oli's curls - at least yoy'll have then to look at. DS had beautiful hair until one day he rubbed jam in them so we took the clippers to it didn't keep any of it

Glad you're on the mend too

May have so come and visit you and the sheep brummie - we're in st athan so the sheep are drowned out by planes - Erin just points and says aaaaaa. She remenids me of that episode of father ted when they go to the fair and there is 'freak pointing' she points at everything and either laughs shouts or says aaaaaaaa.

Erin also had her MMR/hib booster. She has been so iritable since - does anyone know if this is because of the jab or is she just becoming a teenager way too early?? When DS was little the timietable for jabs was slightly different.

Anyway best go - kids are trashing the front room and i have to put some more washing on

ps if anyone sees the sun point it my way so i can put the clothes on the line!!!!!

squidgeymiller · 17/07/2007 12:45

Hi all, sorry you've been poorly becster, hope you're better soon .

Niamh now walking confidently (first steps un-goaded were 10/07/07, but she had been walking previously if we REALLY encouraged her!) and saying "Hiya" and "Mummy mummy mummy" and Daddy (so they sound like real words, not "mu-my". she also says "aah" when she cuddles a toy and "be" if she sees a bear (and oddly sometimes sheep??). She's so lovely at the mo, giving lots of gifts (usually her food!) and cuddles / kisses, she also likes leading me around the rouse, dragging me by the hand. Not sure why - we go round and round in circles, but it makes her giggle (crazy chick!). She's also got nodding and shaking her head down pat now, not sure where she gets it from - I didn't realise I do it but I suppose I must!!

She has her MMR tomorrow, have to admit I'm pretty nervous about it - I know I'm probably being silly!

Can't believe how much my heart swells with love / pride / joy every time she does something cute / new, and even sometimes naughty (she's such a funny naughty little girl!).

All the LO's sound lovely at the mo, can't believe how quick they've grown!

I mentioned to DH this morning that I might like another one (maybe in a year or so) and he just said "what's the point - I don't think we can make one any better than her". I find this quite a confusing response to say the least!! Won't go into the why's and wherefor's - I'll just leave that one with you!!

big hugs to all out there and squeezes to all the. . . . (pause for a dramatic dun dun duuunnnnnn) toddlers

BrummieMuggleInMerthyr · 19/07/2007 22:32

Tron- you are most welcome anytime to come and see us and our sheep
Dylan had his MMR a couple of weeks ago and was absolutely fine afterwards, i really thought that if anyone would react, it would be him so don't worry all, it will be fine!!

tron · 20/07/2007 13:54

I might you to that Brummie!!!!

Erin is starting to says some things - but I think only I can figure out what she says. She can 'bear' clear as a bell. Thankyou is 'a oooooo' and fifi is 'ee ee'

I can't walk past anything with fifi on it with out her screaming with delight yelling ee ee, ee ee!

pinkykim · 20/07/2007 14:13

Hi All

Just become a member of MN my DS was 1 in May and has just started walking and is into everything and anything and has just ecently started becoming very jealous if I give anyone else any attention, is this just a phase or have I done something wrong?

dollydumps · 21/07/2007 16:45

Pinky,

I'm sure you've not done anything wrong, my lo's exactly the same. I think it's a bit of first child syndrome. We went to softplay yesterday with my friend and her (gorgeous) newborn. Abbie was off playing but came straight up when I was feeding the baby her bottle. A tad of the green eyed monster methinks! I think it's quite sweet really - she just wants me all to herself.
Abbie had her MMR on Monday, and GODDAMNIT, I had to get a booster MMR too! Don't know who was more scared (must admit I let Abbie gat hers done first to gauge the reaction!). Her poor wee leg was swollen and angry red for 3 days and my arm is still tender and rashed - surely there's an easier way than that to get immunity (a wee pill in my cuppa would be much more agreeable!)
Anyways, after the first steps Abs has pretty much given up on the whole walking thing, and is back to the old crawling at breakneck speed. Suppose they all get there in the end!
Cheerio...

asur · 22/07/2007 05:24

Hi all,

DS has finally realised that walking is fun! He's known how to do it for ages but he's only realised this week that it could be better than crawling! It's amazing how much better/confident he's got at it in just a few days.

As for MMR - DS had no reaction at all. He didn't even get red marks on his legs. I was expecting something but so far, he's been fine. Think we're safe (I say reaching for some wood to touch just in case.. )

He isn't bad with the jealousy thing though - he likes to spend a lot of time with me at weekends (work during the week) but he doesn't mind if I'm with someone else anymore - we did have issues a few months ago but he seems to have grown out of it so just a phase. We'll see how he reacts when he's not an only child though - might change things!

BrummieMuggleInMerthyr · 23/07/2007 16:46

Dollydumps - why did you need a booster? I only ask because i didn't have my MMR as a baby because of all the controversy surrounding it at the time and it scared my mom. I was wondering if i should have one too. TIA

luckymummy74 · 26/07/2007 19:16

Hi all,
Blimey, I haven't posted 'frages' (as they say in Wales, apparently, so my welsh father tells me).
Been catching up with all your news. Isn't it amazing how our lo's are TODDLERS now!!
Sophie is still gorgeous, of course. I also feel my heart swell with love and pride at every cute thing she does, and ask anyone around who will listen to 'look! look! look what she's doing.....how cute!!'. Sad eh?!
She is walking now...yipeee! Took her first steps on our wedding anniv...nice. She is too realising that it is lots of fun to walk. Can't wait to buy her her first proper shoes!
She isn't talking loads but is doing very well with her 'play', putting the right shapes in a shape sorter etc. Talking of which, does anyone watch the baby newton 'discovering shapes' DVD...with the funky song? So cool, Sophie loves it. I only have to sing the song to her and she is up at the TV waiting for me to put it on!
Anyway, must go and get the spagbol on....
Laters!!!

hockeypuck · 27/07/2007 09:31

Hi Girls

Just realised I haven't posted here for ages so I've been enjoying catching up with all your news.

Theo has had his check up regarding the heart murmour they found when he was admitted with that virus in May and the good news is that it was obviously related to the virus and has now gone.

He had his referral to physio because he wasn't cruising. They've actually found out that he has hyper-extensive ligament syndrome or something else named like that and is very bendy indeed which is why he doesn't have the stability to stand up for any length of time. He has exercises at home now which dd likes helping with and he will get special shoes before he walks to give him some support at the ankle (not special shoes in a caliper way, just ones that support him well I think they give you a free voucher for Start-Rite so that would be nice, at £40 a pop I cant stretch to them for baby shoes) DD has "ballerina feet" (very narrow with a high instep) so she has to have start-rite shoes too so it's very expensive indeed!

Anyway, Theo is beginning to pull himself up to standing when he wants something from the toy box or the coffee table so he's making progress.

He is also a very chatty boy. He has about 30 recogniseable words, but unlike your lo's only one animal sound so far "oo oo" for monkey which he calls an "umkey"

Right, DD wants some help with her workbook now so I'll be off but look forward to reading more about your babies/toddlers soon!

dollydumps · 27/07/2007 13:40

Brummie,

Regards to the MMR: got a letter from the doctor to tell me that they somehow missed me when the boosters were getting done when I was a toddler. Apparently that's not so bad but there's a bit of a mumps epidemic in SW Scotland right now and those aged between 19-27 are most at risk (my blinkin' 28th birthday is in November - bad luck!). So rather than get the dreaded mumps, I thought I better show Abbie a good example and get the jab. Have to say, I did find it quite painful, how do our lo's cope!
We're just going to get abbie's first pair of shoes - the cruisers are wrecked - and I'm going to have to take the £40 pricetag on the chin! Wouldn't even pay that for a pair of shoes for myself (well suppose it depends how sparkly they are!)
DD is down for her afternoon nap right now, which are getting a bit erratic to say the least - it's a hit or a miss whether she'll go down, how long for, etc. How things change, I miss the bliss of that 2 hours freedom in the afternoon even if it's only for housework! Not to worry though - she's taken 1.5 hours so far this afternoon (hense I thought it was safe to bring out the laptop for an airing), but best sign off now before she wakes up.
Speak to you soon!

luckymummy74 · 29/07/2007 13:45

hockeypuck - I was v interested to hear about Theo's trip to the physio. I am a physio and one of the main areas I work in is treating teenagers and young adults who have hypermobility. I'm sure you have all the info you need from your physio, but if I can be of any help, just let me know. I find it fascinating!! (Hypermobility Syndrome).

BrummieMuggleInMerthyr · 31/07/2007 21:25

Thanks for the info dollydumps, i'll ask my GP next time i have to go!
Glad Theo is ok hockeymum, i'm sure his little legs will get going soon too Dylan isn't walking yet either and i'm getting sick of family asking if i'm worried I know he'll do it when he's ready but they seem to think this is a major trauma! Oh well!
Lovely to read about all the lo's

hockeypuck · 01/08/2007 08:16

brummiemum Dylan will definitely get going in his own time and probably be a strong walker straight away. Well done for having such a good calm attitude about it. Family always like to say their nephew/grandson etc is doing well and advanced which ultimately puts pressure on both you and the child. I cant stand it when people compare children favourably or unfavourably. You seem to have your head screwed on very well indeed!

luckymum Oooh glad to know someone with the right info. I haven't looked too much into this yet so may well pick your brain in the future. At the moment we have a few exercises to do at home and we've been told he'll get shoes soon to help support his ankles before he cruises. I took him to an independent shoe shop yesterday that stocks Start-Rite shoes to get his feet measured and apparently we'll probably end up with hospital shoes because he's feet are so narrow no one makes a C fitting anywhere. Are hospital shoes really ugly? In a way I'm glad it was our son like this because boys shoes don't thrill me as much as girls ones. DD had some gorgeous little shoes at his age and hospital shoes probably wouldn't have come in pink with fairies on!! Might actually start a shoe advice thread later on, I expect tons of mnetters have the same problems.

By the way do any of you have facebook? If you have let me know and I'll add you on there, have found quite a few mnetters on there this week!

thebecster · 02/08/2007 10:47

Lovely to hear how all the little ones are doing! They all sound so adorable and bright, and you all sound like such good Mums. I'm taking Oliver for his Mumps vaccination next week (because he's had measles so am doing single Mumps & Rubella separately private).

He doesn't have many words yet. Mostly he just says 'no, no, no, no, no, no'. Just singing it to himself quite happily as he runs around the flat while refusing to let me dress him! He's a little bit younger than most of the others on here, so maybe he'll catch up on the words over the next month or so. He's pretty good at communicating what he wants with body language though!

His nursery keep referring to him as being 'hyperactive'. Haven't quite processed that tbh. I've always described him as 'bit of a handful'. Don't really like the idea of him being labelled - I think he's just a very active little boy. I think also that he's quite physically advanced for his age (he was walking at 8 months, running at 9 months and reached a flat out sprint by 12 months), but in terms of his emotional and verbal/mental development he's bang on normal. So he runs fast, wants lots of physical play, but can't tell you what he wants with words or control his feelings.... And I don't think that's the same thing as being 'hyperactive' exactly. Hmm. Would be interested to know what you all think.

I'm still off sick from work, but feeling so much better. Hope to be back at work in a few weeks.
