Hey all

Just had my 20 week scan and everything is fine. We also found out we are having a boy. Slightly gutted not to be able to pass down DD's clothes(!) but pleased all the same.

Due date is 19 March, am 20 weeks today.

It is so interesting hearing about language development. Maddie seems to have come on in the last few years. The only two words she can string together are "read book" but its a start! She says "bebe" alot for baby. I wonder how much she understands about getting a brother?

asur · 31/10/2007 19:36

Congrats Winky - good news about your little boy. At least you're past the halfway point now, always good

DS still isn't talking, he says a few words and he understands exactly what people say to him but he just doesn't want to talk. Might be a good thing, he is so cheeky that I maybe don't want to know what he's saying!

I've put back my return to work so I'm staying with him till start of Feb which is great. DH starting new job this week so depending on money, I might not have to go back to work at all! fingers crossed!

goodcatholicgirl · 01/11/2007 14:49

Congrats winky girl on your 20 week scan. I have mine booked for Christmas Eve!!!! It will be lovely to have one of each.

What are your plans re double buggy/ buggy board??? Soory to bore the rest of you!!!

hockeypuck · 02/11/2007 09:50

Congrats on the boy Winky. I was similarly surprised that DS was going to be a boy and really wanted 2 girls at first but I am SO SO SO pleased I had a boy now. He's great and it is different from having a girl, they're both fab I'm just glad I got to do one of each!

Well girls - guess what (and no I'm not pregnant - all done and snipped!)

Theo can walk!
He took 1 step last Friday and then 3 on Monday and by Wednesday he was taking lots of steps everywhere! Hoorah. He was 18 months and 5 days old! so not too bad really considering the wobbly joints! He is so pleased with himself for doing it.

Hoorah we got there!!

Well done Theo, fantastic news!! (Hockey, are you sure you're not pg, stranger things have happened you know !!!)

Excellent news about scan winkygirl!
Our next door neighbour had a little girl on tues, well she wasn't little as she was 8lb 13 (wipe your watery eyes girls, she had a section!) And still not a broody bone in my body !!

WinkyGirl · 12/11/2007 14:02

Well done Theo - I bet he is pleased with himself!

GoodCatholicGirl I did alot of thinking and decided on a Phil and Teds. We ordered it a few weeks back and it is up in the loft. I considered a board but Maddie still likes to sleep in the pushchair (and loved sitting high up in the Phil and Teds when we tried it in the shop.)
I did consider putting the baby in a sling and continuing with Maddie in the stoller. However Maddie was 9lb 10oz when she was born so there is a good chance the baby will also be a heavyweight. No way to slings!

CindersNeedsHelp · 12/11/2007 15:48

Hi all, just checking in! Today DS has been ?helping? me make wrapping paper (lining paper and paint). It?s very, ahem, unique!!! Grandparents should love it! They all dote on him!

HockeyMum Yeah to walking Theo!!!

WinkyGirl/GCG re a sling. My friend is going to have a newborn and an 18 month old in Feb, and has decided on sling and single buggy. FYI, if you?re interested, I still use my sling with DS (even though he is now 18 months). It?s great for when he?s grumpy and tired and doesn?t want to walk, just wants ?up? and fusses if we put him in the buggy! It?s very versatile and his weight is well distributed over my shoulder and back. Even a large newborn would be carried easily in it too without too much strain and you can get harnesses if falling out is a worry. Each solution must have its own advantages and disadvantages, and I find it interesting to hear what other people think.

goodcatholicgirl · 12/11/2007 20:08

Thanks cinders and winky for your suggestions. I might try the sling initially but I have a dodgy back so wouldn't really work long term for me. Can't believe anyone could manage an 18 mth old in a sling !! Sophie is 11kg now and I struggle to carry her for too long. I suppose being pregnant doesn't help, I think I could have a 'who's got the most wobbly joints' competition with Theo at the moment!! ONly 15+3 wks and already got back pain and SPD (pubic pain). Oh joy. Had it really bad with Sophie but not til about 6 mths.

Think I will go for double buggy for longer term, although I will miss my lovely bugaboo !!!

Hockey - great news on Theo walking!!!! what a star!

Sophie is 18 mths this weekend. So F'ing cute . Trying to talk, being really helpful around the house, putting her toys away at the end of the night, helping me hang washing out, empty dishwasher etc.
I can only hope that baby no 2 is as much of an angel!!!!!

louismummy · 13/11/2007 20:14

my experience is i've got a 21 month gap, got a double, haaven't used it that much ( an out and about one) and have bought a buggy board which they now both fight over. I think it depends how good a walker you've got and how much / what type of walking/car you do. we've a huge boot but i can't be bothered lugging the double in it often i used it for going for walks from home. mine would be near imposible on the bus i think.

ds2 has only 1 and a half molars to go hurrah! just starting to say some words refuses to say mummy daddy unless he is desparate and amazed me by saying banana clearly ( even better than his older brother.) hope everyone is well

louismummy · 03/12/2007 22:15

Am i a thread killer? I hope not.
Can you guys give me some advice on nappies. ds keeps waking up soaking. Have put in the next size up to no avail. the problem is he sleeps on his front so the back part of the nappy is quite dry. I'm fed up of changing his clothes and his bedding please help

asur · 04/12/2007 13:08

I haven't had anything worth posting about hence why I've not but thought I should reply to you, Louismummy so you don't get too paranoid about thread killing

I can't offer much advice about nappies, we had to change to disposibles recently Are you able to boost disposibles? Assuming you can, if so, we used to use microfibre cloths in DS1's 'real' nappy to boost it at night. Soaks up loads but is quite small. Might be worth a try?!

Someone else might be better advice though

As for double buggy discussion. When we were planning for DS2, we decided we wouldn't order anything till he arrived. That way we'd know how well DS1 was walking and if we could just get a buggy board. Knew if we ordered it online, it would arrive within a couple of days and in that time, we could use a sling or use it as an excuse to stay in bed a 'babymoon'!

WalkingCinderWinterWonderland · 04/12/2007 16:05

Hi louismummy to answer your nappy question it would help to know:
What nappy type do you use at night?
Do you boost at night, if so what with?
Do you use exactly the same type of nappy during the day?
How long has this been a problem?

It might actually be worth posting this question on the topic board for Nappies, potty training etc for more people to see. If you do, put LO?s age too, 'cause they wont know .

TheHockeyandtheIvy · 06/12/2007 07:49

louismummy - just a thought, but have you tried putting his nappy on back to front at night time. It's not so comfy for them when they're running about but at night he won't be doing that anyway! See if that makes a difference!.

I have always found Huggies to be more absorbent than Pampers but that's just me!

louismummy · 07/12/2007 19:45

thanks for the advice, but he hasn't done for a week now!!!. I'm using huggies, but I've never tried back to front though, intresting thought!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 07/12/2007 21:08

We had the same prob with Dylan, when i got him up in the morning and unzipped his sleeping bag, he would say 'wet', bless him!! We use pampers baby dry at night, and they seem to do the trick. I am a big huggies fan too, but only for day time 'little walkers'!!

blushingm · 10/12/2007 16:23

I found that DS used to leak but DD does and they both sleep the smae on tummy with their bums up in the air. Pampers are good and DD but Huggies were good on DS - Also used to give milk or water before bed as apple juice etc used to make them wee more nd make sure his willy isn't pointing upwards - i don't know why but it made a difference????

How's everyone doing .... apart from living though the dreaded sickness bug and trying to ride out this head cold....we put up our tree on saturday and starting to feel really christmassy.... lovely

PS great news on theo's walking

PPS is anyone thinking about potties yet or is it just my bank balance looking forward to being rid of nappies

goodcatholicgirl · 15/12/2007 17:06

blushingm - Yes I had thought about potties for a bit. Sophie went thru a phase of telling us when she was just about to do a poo (pointed to bottom and said "poo poo!"). However, this has now stopped and we have reverted to guessing by smell! I was in two minds as to what to do, I am now 20 weeks pg, so DC2 due May, when Sophie will be 2. I have read that it's not ideal to try and potty train 4 months either side of the arrival of a new sibling, so that child doesn't think they are being forced into it cos of new baby. Not sure I believe that too much, but I can see that too close to new baby arrival not ideal, likewise too soon after. I discussed it with a few friends who recommended I wait til after new baby born, maybe end of next summer. Sounds good to me, and I feel a bit relieved knowing I won't be heavily pg trying to chase a toddler around the house with a potty!!!

Feeling Chritmassy here too, house looks like a winter wonderland with few strategically placed sets of fairy lights (nothing tacky of course !!).

So exciting being pg again too, have started to feel the baby move recently. It's funny how Christmas 2 years ago I was pg with Soph, last year she was just 7 months old, and now she's just such a gorgeous little girl, and will be a big sister next year.

I hope you are all well. Only a few of us who still post now! I started posting on the 'due May08' thread, but I couldn't keep up, they were posting so much each day, I didn't have time to read it all!!! I only post every few weeks. It's nice to still hear from you guys.

blushingm, is that a new nickname?? what or should I say, who, did you used to be??!!

Merry Christmas to you all, only 10 days to go!!

plama · 11/01/2008 20:18

Happy New Year to you all. I hope everybody and their families had a good Christmas.
I can't believe how big DD2 is now. I went to visit my newborn niece over New Year and she made my "baby" seem huge!!!(new niece very small and very cute BTW)
DD2 is having good temper tantrums. She gets sooo cross. The other day we'd been out for a bike ride. She loves being on the baby seat and got really angry when I took her out at home, then took her helmet off. She stamped her little feet and howled. It's quite funny looking back at it now. I think we've got the "terrible 1 and a halfs":
She's not as quick to talk as my older daughter and says lots of words with missing syllables like "ish" for fish, "mo" for more and "wo" for water. She has a little friend at nursery called Archie and she calls him "Ah-ee". Very cute though.
Anyway hope you are all well.
Plama

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 28/01/2008 17:19

Hi All! We're slipping down the list a little, so thought i would bump us up again!
Little Dylan pudding is turning into a big Dylan pudding and copying everything we say! I have to be soooooo careful in the car cos thats when my bad language tends to be at it's worst! It's lovely to see the progress he's making though, bless him!
I'm doing the advanced life support course this weekend and i'm taking a well earned break from the relentless studying and cramming i'm doing at the moment, i've just got 'adrenaline - shock' running round my poor little brain!!!!
Hope you are all ok x

goodcatholicgirl · 14/02/2008 10:06

Hi all, does anyone actually ever still check this thread??! Where have you all gone, blimey, anyone would think you were busy with toddlers or something !

All is well here. I am 29 weeks now with no.2. ONly 5 weeks left at work...yippeee!
Just getting to the cumbersome stage of pregnancy....forgot how pathetic I feel not being able to do much. Thankfully SPD has def not been as bad this time around, which I put down to not being full time at work this time around (work as a physio so very physical and on feet all day).

Sophie continues to be my no 1 gorgeous girl Cuter by the day. Talking loads, putting little sentences together, "where de baby gone mummy?" (if she loses her babydoll). "Daddy stairs, down minit" (Daddy's upstairs but will be down in a minute!!). Yesterday I had a little fall in the bedroom, just lost balance when I tripped on valance of bed, and Sophie said "Oh dear mummy!! Stand up!"

Had a few food issues lately, my fault cos I have still been giving her mashed up food in a bowl, but decided that at nearly 2 she should eat proper food off a plate. Needless to say we hit quite a bit of resistance but things seem to be getting there slowly.

Hope you are all well. Let's have some more posts shall we girls?!!

LittleFairySmile · 14/02/2008 18:48

Hello GCG. I know what you mean about the conversation, my boy jabbers away too, but most proud (gushing Mummy moment, please excuse me) is counting to 10, although only when he feels like it, and certainly not when Mummy says ?show grandma/granny etc. how you can count!? Well, he?s not a performing monkey, even if he is as mischievous sometimes. He?s in a big boys? bed, and does a wee wee on the toilet after his bath every night now. So grown up. How many of us ?nearly twos? are still checking this?

We ought to have a new thread called ?Uh oh, terrible twos here we come - May 06?. My DS is already starting with the frustrated tantrums. He knows what he wants to do, but can?t always do it. Bless him!

P.S. Notice the name change? I have been here a while, can you work out who I am !?!?!

goodcatholicgirl · 15/02/2008 07:20

Hmmm - who are you little fairysmile???
I can't work it out?

LittleFairySmile · 15/02/2008 13:12

He he - I was Cinders!

goodcatholicgirl · 15/02/2008 19:19

well cinders, LFS, I think we might just be holding this thread together now!!!

hockeypuck · 18/02/2008 20:42

I'm here too!!!! Yaaay - people are posting again!

Theo is doing well, he's a little behind with motor skills compared to his sister because of his wobly joints but he's occassionally trying to run now and he climbs the stairs.

He has tons of words but not that clear and he doesn't put more than 2 or 3 together yet, although his sister was a little chatterbox at this age!

But he's a cutie and fun to be with
