Morning all - new thread as the old one's about to hit the 1000 posts limit.

Not so great this morning - feel like an egg-bound chicken IYSWIM. Grrr - especially as I managed to avoid it all the way through pregnancy. And not sure if there's anything I can take for it while I'm feeding?

the blonde - neck folds - wash and dry then smother with bym cream. That is what worked for us with dd1 when she was in hospital and not able to have a proper bath for weeks.

I just pull back dd3's folds and get right in there and then dry.

dd1 had her 6 weeks check up and has put on over a kg since 3 weeks old. Gp said she was growing and developing beautifully.

THis is our buggy - has a toddler seat to attach for dd2 if I need to.

here it is brilliant and still able to push one handed even with chunky toddler in seat on front.

Mossie · 10/05/2007 07:28

Well...

Bertie is currently not sleeping, not feeding and not... crying!

Yes he is sat in his hypnochair wide awake, making little noises, but nothing approaching a cry!

So if this continues I'm going to grab a decaff coffee and come back here in ten minutes (if it escalates into a cry though, all bets are off)!

TheBlonde · 10/05/2007 07:40

Cheers for the neck folds advice everyone

Eids - your buggy looks good. Buggies with toddler seats seem to be very rare in the UK. Do lots of folk have them in Oz?

Hi Mossie! hope you get your coffee

LunarSea · 10/05/2007 09:04

morocco - have you tried the Aldi version of Pimms? You might be able to tell the difference if you tasted one straight after the other, but its very close imho, and half the price.

I've never seen a 3-wheeler with a toddler seat here - the Bertini shuttle we bought for MIL can have one - and that's Austrlian too.

I don't know what's happened to my wakes once in the night and sleeps quite a bit between feeds baby. The last couple of night he's wanted feeding nearly all night. And we seem to have gone from sleeping about 15 hours a day as a newborn to being awake 15 hours a day now. Yesterday he went over 9 hours without sleeping and was still bright eyed and bushy tailed when I took him off to feed lying down in the dark hoping he'd drop off. It worked - for all of about 30 minutes.

mossy so pleased to see you are sounding so much happier.
Long may it continue
Am chokka todya with things to do, DP robbed the car, we're rehoming our two dogs (read my attacked our cat thread) one is going to Finland for breeding so am having to jump through hoops to get that sorted.

Right must dash
love to y'all from angel baby household

Mossie · 10/05/2007 10:10

Well I didn't get my coffee... but I will now... he is asleep, but in his sling! It's one of those really cheap ones, basically it's just a few pieces of cloth sewn together but he loves it!

Piffle I can't find your thread, but I'm really sorry to hear your dogs attacked your cat it's awful when pets turn on each other.

Kitty I'm like you with the Baileys, I can't stop drinking it if I start, so these days I have a glass of wine or even two... hey Sheila Kitzinger says it's okay if you're bfing so it must be!!

Eids that's an impressive buggy! Ours is quite nice but the woman in mothercare blatently lied to me about how heavy it was, it's like a tank!

Diva, Lambrini? Now you will fit in round here sitting on the front bench in front of the terraces!

Dolly I am impressed with you bfing in public, I would be nervous (and also I can't do it without the help of about three different cushions)!

Right he is stirring...

I'm getting him weighed today for only the second time since he's been born, he was 8 pound 1 oz last week so hopefully he's put on a few oz's, if so I will then deffo feel I have this feeding thing cracked!

foxcub · 10/05/2007 10:21

Hi everyone...

Oh goodbye everyone - Monti just started yowling!!!

kiwibella · 10/05/2007 10:38

fox!!

So glad that things are working out Moss - Bertie will start putting on weight so quickly now. The bf thing is funny... I can feed Kate if we are out and about but if we are at home, I need my cushions and props around and behind me .

Piffle poor you and your dogs... and the kitties too! Hope that you are able to keep in contact with the breeder in Finland to know how s/he is getting on.

Phil and Teds buggies are so appealing with the little cocoon underneath for babies!! Mine looks similar to yours Eids... I got a Quinny - the speedi not the buzz - and it is a dream to drive. I love it. But, it's a bit like yours Mossy and weighs a ton (about 15kg, I think). We keep it in the car and it nearly kills me every morning and afternoon lifting it in and out. I have started using it without the carseat and Kate looks so cute... she's a little dot inside this big thing.

LunarSea · 10/05/2007 10:56

Mossie - Piffle's thread .

Mossie - as you get more relaxed and confident about feeding you'll find you can do it anywhere. These days I'll feed Toby with him on one arm (or even just lying on the desk) while mumsnetting with the other hand, wandering around the house, or when we're out anywhere that I can sit down - have fed him in cafes, on a beach, in a churchyard, in pubs, in pub gardens... Is there a breastfeeding support group, or an NCT bumps and babes group, or something similar near you? It might help you feel about more relaxed about trying it for the first time if it was in an environemtn where other people are doing the same?

OP posts:
foxcub · 10/05/2007 11:10

Lunar - impressed with your BF skills!!!

I fed DS1 everywhere but was so self concious we often had a poor latch and I was too embarassed to keep re-latching so ended ip with constant sore nips and mastitis/thrush. (fed him for 5 months, then gave up through pain). With DD I was studying so fed her at home mainly and fed for 18 months.

Mossie - I have had to use a BF cushion with all of mine - used it for 18 months with DD. I thing it depends on the shape of your boobs TBH. Mine are 3 foot long. Do you have a banana shaped one with a handle you can take out with you?

I have to admit I HATE feeding in public. I don't care about people seeing my norks, but I do care about looking cool (LOL!!!) and find I get all hot and sweaty when I try and feed in public and end up in a wrestling match trying to juggle with baby, boob and bra etc and still stay composed. At home I can whip my top off, watch TV etc - much preferable.

Saying that though - the most comfy place to feed I find is in the car - the seats are just really comfy with great back support and I don't need the pillow there..

sorry being boring aren't I?

OMG he's yowling again.

Sounds like Bertie is entering his next phase

OMG have to go now to pick up Monti!!

Mossie · 10/05/2007 11:13

Lunar the only thing we have round here is the lll woman, who is at the SureStart centre, there is probably something in Liverpool but I don't have the confidence to take him out and about until I feel better about bf in public (catch 22)!!

Still I am seeing her again on Tuesday so will ask her then, I think you are right it is all about confidence.

But in all my time here I have never once seen a woman bf in public, the lll woman told me I was the first new mum she'd seen in weeks and weeks, it's just not the done thing round here at all.

Actually I think it might be better to do it in Liverpool on my first time, big city not so easy to shock people!

Mossie · 10/05/2007 11:17

X posts Foxy you are not being boring (well, okay, you might be, but in that case so am I) I have bored everyone to tears (including myself) about Bertie's feeding habits since he was born.

Actually I don't think I'd be that much different if he was ff, I think it's quite an obsessional thing, making sure babies are well fed and growing.

Yes my norks are three foot long too, and I can't even blame pregnancy, they have been like this since I was about 25

It's awful having to kiss goodbye to those lucrative swimsuit modelling contracts!

foxcub · 10/05/2007 11:25

mossie - several bf counsellors have told me that women with big norks actually can find bf more tricky as there is more flesh to juggle with iyswim...

i think feeding is so central to survival that's why it preoccupies us if its going badly

i have the opposite issue to you - here everyone bf in public - but are so cool and accomplished (with pert boobs in trendy and gorgeous bras) that I feel inferior!!!

my friend with her adopted son says she feels self consious ff in public as it is so rare here everyone stares at her LOL!

would love to have a natter with you about it at some point when you have time for a phone call - gotta go now - Monti yowling on lap...

LunarSea · 10/05/2007 11:41

foxcub - you mean they feed so you can see what bras they're wearing where you are? I've just bought tops in styles which give him access without actually exposing anthing for more than the few seconds it takes to latch him on, and by having him lined up, ready to go anyone would have to be actively watching to see anything really.

Around here I have seen other people breastfeeding, but you see a fair amount of bottle usage too - but actually if you see someone bottle feeding you can't mistake what they're doing, wheeas at a glance Toby feeding probably looks as if he's just lying across my lap sleeping, so perhaps you do see people feeding but just haven't noticed?

Funny about the regional variations though - wonder if there are any figures about breastfeeding rates in different parts of the country?

LunarSea · 10/05/2007 11:42

2nd part of that was for Mossie btw

OP posts:
foxcub · 10/05/2007 11:53

Lunar (just fed Monti so he's ceased yowling) - not sure if its my 3 ft long boobs I'm embarassed about or my dingy NCT bras!!

I think maybe I'm actually thinking of other Mums who are feeding in Mums groups, so they are relaxed about exposing their bras etc - rather than actual "public". I do find I get stressed though, when trying to latch Monti on in public. Bot sure why really. May I just feel vulnerable and exposed? In my car is fine though as I feel its a protective bubble - even though people can still see, if that makes sense. Plus the seats are very comfy

foxcub · 10/05/2007 11:54

off to change bum now (his - not mine, unfortunately)

Rosylily · 10/05/2007 11:57

Fox that sounded as if you have banana shaped boobs with handles!

I'm having a bad day, tearful and eeor-ish. (Usually I'm more like Tigger) the children are responding by trashing the house while I breastfeed. Failed to make it to nursery and planning to fail taking the car and three small children to the mot, good I'll be driving illegally then....moan, moan and generally moan.

Piffle · 10/05/2007 11:58

yes big boobs are a liability
I've got serious wrist pain, combination of lugging the Mighty Finn around as he desires and supporting two very large bobs for 20 mins every 2-3 hrs.

The cat is not alright and she is the pet we have had the longest adn the onnly one of our 5 cats to outwit and survive the awful road outside, so we love her disproportionately more.
There was also some time issues with the dogs, dp and ds1 unable to exercise them due to more work committments and after school/weekend plans.
I cannot walk dd 4.5 (some mild mobiility issues - needs her hand holding most of the time) Finn in his pram and two lively dogs, or even one come to think of it.
We got them as we thought we could not have any more kids after 4 yrs trying...
Typical...

divastrop · 10/05/2007 11:59

LOL@ 3 foot norksmine are longer than that.i missed the pert bosom stage-i went from a 34a to a 36c in the space of 2 weeks when i was 12 so theyve always been saggy and stretchmarked.

i think Elsie slept from 1.30-6.30 last night, but i dont know how long she'd been crying when i finally woke up.im shattered cos ive spent the last 2 nights arguing with dp.hes coming to the doctors with me tomorrow.i dont know if they will be able to help me,but maybe they will listen to dp cos they certainly dont listen to me,they just tell me how i feel is 'understandable' as i have 5 young children and its hard work....so its 'understandable' that i spend most of my time torturing myself with the thought of these women flirting with my partner, and the fact that he is laughing at how sad and pathetic i am,and probably telling them that hes only with me cos of the kids and that im a fat stupid idiot etc etc,its 'understandable' that a group of 11 year olds had me in tears at the weekend, that i think all the mums in the nursery playground are talking about what a bad mother i am cos my son swears, and that i cant think straight and forget to fill in forms etc cos my minds too preoccupied with morbid thoughts.

sorry .

Piffle · 10/05/2007 12:00

ahh think we're finally seeing the 6 wk growth spurt (7 wks today)
Every 2 hrs on the dot, two boobs (one more than usual lol)
And very tired inbetween. Just like his mummy

foxcub · 10/05/2007 12:01

Rosy - more like cows udders than bananas!!!

Good luck with all the kids and car! I took DD to nursery this morning then bought her home again as she was all clingy.

Piffle - [waves]

right must go and do nappy now and get off MN for a minute!!!

Rosylily · 10/05/2007 12:09

piffle don't feel bad about the doggies. They will be happy in their new homes and you have enough on your plate. I hope the cat comes round soon.

Diva, you poor thing, you need a wee holiday!

eidsvold · 10/05/2007 13:02

the toddler seats are not everywhere - phil and teds seem quite popular. But as this was our last babe - could not justify the expense.

It really is a fab pram and so light.

Rosylily · 10/05/2007 15:01

Dh rang one of his friends to come and take the car for mot, I wasn't going anywhere...feel guilty now Poor guy got about a minutes notice....oh well
