Morning all - new thread as the old one's about to hit the 1000 posts limit.

Not so great this morning - feel like an egg-bound chicken IYSWIM. Grrr - especially as I managed to avoid it all the way through pregnancy. And not sure if there's anything I can take for it while I'm feeding?

OP posts:

Diva I'm sorry you're having a crappy time still, and I hope that when your dp goes to the dr's with you they don't fob you off again.

Piffle as I said on your other thread your dogs will be fine, they'll just think they've changed into a different pack, happens often in the "wild" apparently.

Well, I met another Mumsnetter at dinnertime today! You may know her on here as NormaStanleyFletcher... she isn't a hairy knuckled trucker either (dh thought I shouldn't meet anyone off her 'cos they might be "grooming" me, wtf?)... so nice to speak to another adult other than mil and dh!!

And... how's this for some great news... I went to the baby clinic today to get Bertie weighed... and he is putting on weight!!! He has gained four oz since last week!!! So I am doing it right! Then again, I must also admit that since I saw the LLL woman on Tuesday, Bertie has started to settle again, he has been sleeping, and seems more placid. I'm touching wood while I'm typing that!

Anyway he is sleeping now, in a sling (he still won't sleep in a cot / moses basket but this is better than nothing!) so I'm going to have a quick tidy around the house and then put on a Doctor Who DVD!

Rosylily · 10/05/2007 15:25

Happy days Mossy

foxcub · 10/05/2007 15:58

Mossie - LOL at Dr Who in your 5 minutes "me time"

Brill news about Bertie - reassuring for you I bet - now you know he's feeding properly

Rosy - that's nice of your DP and his friend - I'd love that (blokes coming to the rscue LOL!!_)

CallieNewMum · 10/05/2007 16:10

See Mossy, you're a natural after all. So pleased things are picking up for you. You'll find as time goes on you will feel more confident about feeding outside the home. I eas really nervous and self-conscious ffing Jordi anywhere else in the beginning and still prefer doing it at home tbh. (altfhough now it's in case he starts roaring afterwards!).

Poor wee man has a cold and has been sleepingmost of the day, although now is crying for food.Got to go

spongecake · 10/05/2007 16:18

my dp and baby are having a nap so mn for a bit.

mossy, I had confidence crisis bf after mum and sister disgust at me, but dp and I went for lunch this week to a v quiet little indian res, and they put us in the window as there was room for pram. baby was sleeping until food came, woke up and demanded to be fed. so i had to get boobs out in the window of the restuarant. i could have moved but wanted my food and talk to dp. After that, think am back to not caring where i am / who is watching

what miserable weather- its just rain rain rain here. am supposed to be moving even further out into the sticks so must learn to not mind about rain and embrace it. oh and just learnt my job might be kaput so....

muppethasakitten · 10/05/2007 16:32

mossy so glad things have improved for you... and I'm glad you think being more relaxed has helped too... it certainly worked for me. I am thankful that my HV is a splendid Irish woman who makes you feel like you're the best mother in the world. Feel very lucky as I've had disastrous ones in the past.

piffle so sorry to hear about the dogs but it really does sound as though it's for the best. We are having issues with our mad running away dog in the he keeps pooing in the house. At the age of 5 it's a bit bizarre and nobody can give me any ideas why he's doing it. We're contemplating pointer rescue if he doesn't stop.

diva sorry things are rough

sponge sorry about the job... are they allowed to do that with you on maternity leave?

No news here really. Lots of rain and I'm desperate for a glass of wine or a beer! Bit early don't you think?

divastrop · 10/05/2007 16:36

mossy-glad you have the bf sorted now and bertie is putting weight on.lol at 'grooming',although dp has said on lots of occasions that half the women on here whom i tell personal things to are probably men in rl.i did ask him where on earth a man would get first-hand knowledge of pregnancy and chilbirth, but apparently you can find out anything on the web

im starting to feel slightly better mentally now,but i do think im emerging from the worst bout of pmt ive ever had as my norks are sore and my belly is swollen.

Elsie had her 6 week check today.she's 11lb 8oz now,the doctor said she's 'thriving'.and her chest is ok,shes just very snotty.

Mossie · 10/05/2007 16:46

Well, I had a bit of Doctor Who, but I'm saving it for bfing really, dh bought me a set of three DVDs for when I'm up in the night. Bless him. He isn't that bad I suppose.

Diva I'm glad you're feeling a bit better, and it's great to hear Elsie's doing so well!

Muppet what I used to go on (before I was pg) with regards to booze, was "are the pubs open yet?" If they were, then it was also acceptable to have a beer at home. Although sparkling wine doesn't count if you have it with orange juice you can have it very early.

Spongecake what's happened with your job, aren't there laws governing that sort of thing while you're on leave?

Callie I hope little Jordi shakes his cold soon.

Do you think that for the past two weeks the goblins took my child and I was rearing a changeling? And then they changed their minds? Because since Tuesday this baby of mine has been so much better!

sazzybee · 10/05/2007 18:25

Just to say hello - my post would more or less replicate muppet's so I won't type it all again (lazy cow)

We went on the tube for the 1st time today and I forgot to take the rain cover and DS got a little damp but didn't seem to mind. I saw people looking though

I went to meet my colleages for lunch in the City and the bar/restaurant put us at a table in a separate room right at the back which was so obscure that one of my friends couldn't find us. It was because it was 'discreet'. While I'm not dead keen on getting my norks out in front of people I work with (or anyway - don't really enjoy bfing in public either but it's a case of needs must), I was a bit that they'd shoved me away like I was waving them around like a lapdancer! Seems like my job might not be there any more when I get back either I think they're allowed to get rid of your job and give you something equivalent aren't they?

CallieNewMum · 10/05/2007 18:38

Thanks Mossy. Has been strange today because he's been sleeping lots and quiet when he's awake. . Poor lamb. He's complaining a bit now though.

Sazzy, are you one of these six-figure bonus types???

Piffle, forgot 2 say shame about the dogs but I think you are doing the right thing. I'm a bit of a cat fan too. Hope you find places you like for them.

Diva, good luck at the docs.

Weather's crap here too. Haven't left the house cos of LO's cold but didn't want to!

divastrop · 10/05/2007 20:58

mossie-that used to be my attitude to drinking, before i had children, but back in those days()the pubs used to open 11-3 and 7-11.now some of them are 24 hour,i believe?

the last time i was actually drunk was the night before i met dp

sound like the babies are all turning into alert, happy lo's,and growing out of the 'want to be cuddled by mummy all the time' newborn stage.

its interesting to hear about attitudes to bf in different parts of the country.since sure start started up things have changed alot up here, alot more mums are bf and bf in public is becoming the norm, but at the same time nobody bats an eyelid if you are giving your baby a bottle either.

Piffle · 10/05/2007 21:03

Do you leave your bed to feed Mossy?
I have my area so well set up I do not leave my warm spot
Dp - either likes it or lumps it.
Luckily infact he is very helpful, when he actually wakes...

Am feeling drained today, Finn has fed and fed and fed some more. Hmmm just what he needs, a growth spurt, my arms are about to give way already!

Saz now what you mean about discreet, a corner would be fine but instead they send you into the cellar!

So now that littluns don't feed themselves to sleep, how do those of you that "put" your babies to bed, do it?
Am struggling with what's best....
pref one that does not involve any screaming...

foxcub · 10/05/2007 21:06

i think employers have to give you a job on similar terms and conditions if they can't hold open your old job...otherwise its discrimination

had a two hour nap this evening and Dh jast bathed Monti and I've just washed my hair

was hoping for some new developments re. Madelaine McCann but none

I feel knackered today and eaten too much chocolate.

,,,again...

Phil & Teds due to arrivre tomorrow but bet I'm out getting Monti's jabs done and miss the delivery - so it will be the GP's fault if i miss it! LOL!!

mile for maude tomorrow and scholl fair sunday but weather forecast looks mucho crappo

TheBlonde · 10/05/2007 21:19

Hi all
Feeling exhausted here and DH still not home
Place is a tip and I have the HV, my dad and the cleaner coming tomorrow

Saw the BFC today about the bad nip, she has referred me so I am off to the skin clinic tomorrow
Fingers crossed they can sort me out

I have been feeding in bed at night with the lovely brestfriend pillow but have decided to try a chair instead. Just need to make some space in the bedroom first

Breastfeeding is everywhere here.
I am fine with feeding in public just not at the moment as I have to relatch so many times.
With DS I fed him in church, various shops, restaurants, clifftops, on the tube

morocco · 10/05/2007 21:20

sorry spongecake and sazzybee to hear about your jobs
also sorry to hear about dogs, piffle - and poor cat
great news mossie about bertie's weight gain and bf - he sounds like he's really settling down and you are relaxing into motherhood as well. see - slings are ace . also very good for bf discretely when out and about - emily disappears completely in hers.
i almost died at pilates today - we missed last week so this week was pure murder
oooh - claim to fame, my ds2 was in the local paper the other day with ruth kelly who came to visit his nursery- and i met her as well but didn't realise it, just thought it was some woman who looked like her - duh

sazzybee · 10/05/2007 21:26

callie - I wish! I do get a bonus but it is in the very low 4 figures rather than 6. It's basically a month's pay which is quite handy at xmas (or when you're saving to go on maternity leave)

piffle - I've discovered that the quickest way to get Elliot to sleep is put him on his tummy (I know it's bad but he won't go to sleep on his back) and cuddle him and hold his dummy in place. It takes anywhere between 20mins and an hour.
If he's in a good mood and keen on the idea of sleep, I can just hold his dummy in place until he drifts off. I'm hoping that once he gets hand control, he'll be able to hold it himself. He has a go now but just knocks it out, bless him

foxcub · 10/05/2007 21:52

Morocco - PMSL at you meeting Ruth kelly and not recognising her

is she nice?

sazzy - I hold Monti's dummy in his mouth to get him to sleep too. I lie in the feotus positin, with Monti snuggles up to me in the feotus position, his back to me, and curl my hand round him to hold the dummy in. Sometimes I'll grunt "go to sleep!"

He always gives in and drifts off. I hold him quite tight so he can't wriggle too much as the wriggling keeps him awake.

have just had two spritzers (joy!!!).

I always buy whichever wine is on special offer. If its £3.99 or less, I'll have it!

foxcub · 10/05/2007 21:54

...have just had some Edam and olives (slept through dinner time earlier) and watching prog about Saddam Hussein's "tribe" (eeeyyyggh)

just saw the end of Catherine Tate - I just find her so funny and love the fact that she's Ginger like me . Gingers of the world unite (can you tell I've been drinking?)

morocco · 10/05/2007 21:54

I know!! sleep deprivation or what. me and dh were just saying, ooh that ruth kelly is quite nice, and she likes our son, we;ll have to vote for her, then we realised why politicians always like to be seen holding babies - oldest trick in the book lol

Piffle · 10/05/2007 21:55

saz oh all mine have been on their tums since birth
swear by it

foxcub · 10/05/2007 22:00

Is anyone putting their baby on their tums now for excercise (i.e. muscle strengthening?)?

I have put Monti on his tum a couple of times, just to do poppers up on complicated sleep suits, and he's like "oooh this is different!"

hard to imagine that in two months some of our babies will be sitting up!!!!

ooh I feel quite merry!!!

Piffle · 10/05/2007 22:05

Finn is up on his bloody elbows when on his tummy
He has a neck like a prop forward (rugby)

foxcub · 10/05/2007 22:07

Oh that's so cute Piffle - he's getting really strong!!

Piffle · 10/05/2007 22:09

not that cute, you should see the look on his face, he looks like the terminator.
Will try and get a pic
He is already travelling up the length of his crib, he just plants his feet and pushes.
So he is outta the crib (in my bed tonight) and we're movin in the big cot...

LunarSea · 10/05/2007 22:16

fox - I've done tummy time with Toby almost since day one. He actually seems to prefer it to being on his back.
