Morning all - new thread as the old one's about to hit the 1000 posts limit.

Not so great this morning - feel like an egg-bound chicken IYSWIM. Grrr - especially as I managed to avoid it all the way through pregnancy. And not sure if there's anything I can take for it while I'm feeding?

OP posts:

great news about lll, mossie, glad she put your mil straight. my mum is as bad for all that nonsense. at least she knows to keep quiet now, as does dh, about the whole bf thing.
sorry some of you are having crap time organising jabs - you wouldn't believe the govt wants to encourage take up of them. ours makes all the appointments at the same time so you have no idea how long you have to actually wait.
took ds1 to the walk in clinic today and now feel guilty. he's mentioned on and off having ear ache all week but only say once a day so I thought he was just putting it on, but apparently not, also he has a temp. I'm supposed to be on top of this kind of thing with ds1 since he is immunosuppressed so have been very slack and lazy. worse thing is, I know I didnt take him before cos I was just so sick of going to the gps about me and emily. at least i've kept on top of his meds so far.

divastrop · 08/05/2007 22:09

ds2 had the jabs he was meant to have at 16 weeks when he was 17 months as they kept sending me appointments at 2.45pm!

morocco-my older dc often get neglected when it comes to going to the gp's as i always end up there at least once a week with the lo's,and i get fed up being told theres nothing they can do.ds1 had an ear infection over xmas.he'd mentioned it hurting once or twice but it went over my head what with one thing or another.when i finally got round to looking at it there was manky stuff coming out of itand he had to have it cleaned at the hospital

Elsie is coughing quite alot atm but i dont know whether to take her to the docs or not

morocco · 08/05/2007 22:15

yuck diva - sounds like you have a toughie there though not to mention it more than in passing. ds1 is the same - unless it involves blood, then he goes totally ape, poor lamb
poor elsie - it's so hard to know what to do with babies
while waiting in gp surgery today I was generally beating myself up about being crap overly tough parent. they had a poster up for signs of septicaemia and it reminded me of ds1 who has been hospitalised twice for suspected septicaemia (it wasnt'!) but both times I'd only gone to the gps on the offchance it might be something worth checking out. cue ambulance. i am rubbish

kittyhas6 · 08/05/2007 22:25

Diva, Ronnie has had this strange high pithched, kind of barking cough (not croup) since birth. I've no idea what it is.

Everytime one of the kids looks like they might need medication from the doc my heart sinks. It's the sheer time and effort of getting there that gets me. Now I try and do as much stuff on the phone. I say that so and so has x, y, and x and needs x, y and z.

Morocco, you are NOT rubbish .

I haven't had anyone immunised since dd3

DollyPopsOut · 09/05/2007 00:11

Hi girls

Have skimmed the last few hundred messages - I just can't keep up with you all! Hope all is well. Mossy, great news about the BF. Long may it continue to go well

We don't have a HV attacged to the surgery at the moment, so everything is being done centrally. I had an appointment fo DD2 to have her BCG on Thurs which we can't make. I rang to rearrange and to book one for DD1 at the same time. I was told DD1 was on a waiting list as there was a backlog. Told that we were unlikely to get an appointment this year! Think I will just take her to DD2's appointment and try to persuade them to do it at the same time. i can't see Lambeth ever catching up with a backlog of anything so I think this is the only way.

A friend who is a GP and was refused the pneumo vaccine for her DD because they were in short supply offered to bring her own vaccine if the nurse would do it! It is truly madness. Lycky to have access to it. Foxy, can sympathise hugely with how hard it is to sort out the HV thing. Can you book an appointment with the GP so you can at least get the order to immunise?

Had a very weird conversation with my mum today, who I am meeting for coffee tom. "what if you need to feed Tilly while we're out?" I explained I would just get on with it. "but what if people mind?" I wanted to say bring it on as I am spoiling for a fight at th emoment , but just said I would deal with it if and when. She is worried someone might be offended. Not as offended as they will be clearly if they dare to say anything to me, but still. What makes this all the more surprising is that I was BF in the 60s when it was much less common. How odd.

Hope you all have good nights. Am feeling rather alert which is a worry. DD finally conked out after a mammoth 2 hour feed . Surprsed my nipples are still on....

Love to all XXXX

Mossie · 09/05/2007 08:35

Just popping in to say hello to all of you, but Bertie grizzling atm, could start screaming any time, off to dr's at eleven today so hope that will go okay, although I feel much better after seeing the lll woman yesterday.

Tomorrow I'm getting Bertie weighed so if he's put on even a few grams since last week I'll feel well better.

Sounds like the jabs thing is a nightmare, I have all that to come, I hope you all manage to get them sorted out!

foxcub · 09/05/2007 09:03

Thanx everyone - glad to know its not just me having a nightmare with the jabs (I mean that in the nicest possible way of course...)

Dolly my Mum said the same thing when we went out to lunch when DS1 was a baby!. Whilre we were in the restaurant, this group of really posh Mum's came in. Hey presto, one of them whippped her boob out and started feeding her baby on the next table to us. Five minutes later so did another Mum. People have been BFing all around my Mum for years, without her even noticing ! . It took me months of lecturing her but she is finally supportive of BF now, 6 years later.

I remember visiting my grandad who was 89 (sadly passed away now). My Mum actually said to me "I don't think you'd better feed in front of him - he might be shocked".

Of course pig headed me insisted on feeding in front of him. He didn't bat an eyelid, but after a couple of moments he announced, "its so nice to see you are feedibng your baby yourself. Your Gran BF all her babies!!"

Diva/Morocco - DS1 has had ear infections for weeks before they finally burst and its only then that we've realised. Its very difficult to know whether its just a blip or a major infection sometimes - specially as an infection can develop so quickly.

...well that's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it

Likewise when we fed in Church, the priest came up and said it was good to see Mum's BF in the Church - best start in life and all that stuff. Our priest was 76 at the time!

Kitty - Monti has a high pitched barky cough/sneezy thing - I've kind of ignored it but I'd take Ronnie to GP if you are worried. IKWYM about the jabs - not sure I even want the jabs so why do they make it so difficult?

Mossie - how is the feeding going this morning?

I've worked out that if I give Monti a bath about 8-9pm, then feed him (or t'other way round) he sleeps for 5-6 hours afterwards !! All I have to do now is make myself retire at 9pm each night, instead of mumsnetting and watching crap TV!

foxcub · 09/05/2007 09:12

Dropped a complaint off at the GPs last night and they just rang saying they will make a "special arrangement" for us and give DS2 his baby check Friday morning, followed by his jabs.

...don't know why they could just have done that in the first place.

oh no, that would have been far too helpful and efficient wouldn't it?

[grumpy but secretly pleased]

foxcub · 09/05/2007 10:12

TheBlonde - did you buy your Phil & Teds in the end?

Am thinking of purchasing one as the double buggy (AKA bendy bus) is doing my back in (do two school runs with it each day)

Do you recommend a P&T's? Anything I should look out for or avoid when buying it?

Cheers

Rosylily · 09/05/2007 10:18

My health visitor has been coming to me! I haven't heard a dickie bird about jabs or my 6 week check up and now I'm trying to remember if I registered Hasan with the dr
I'm in 10 minds about the jabs...feel like putting them off a while. He had his bcg on day 1 at the hospital though. (dh has had tb.)
Glad you got it sorted fox.

Wonder how Jay and Booboo are doing.

I've impulsively put myself down for a mileformaude on saturday here at stormont. Now I hope I can get there ok with all my brood.

foxcub · 09/05/2007 10:51

Rosy - you've just reminded me that Monti hasn't had his BCG yet!! In fact I think they made me fill in a questionairre asnd said he didn't need it or something ...(rationing?)

I was thinking about Mile for Maude but haven't committed yet Well dont you for putting your name down.

So you have a new devolved government then? Really odd seeing the Reverend and Martin McGuiness together isn't it?

Rosylily · 09/05/2007 11:06

It is funny Fox but brilliant of course. That man! Sometimes you would go shopping in Belfast and he would've been preaching at the front of city hall. He'd be shouting about sinners and hell and it was so loud and everyone would be walking round the shops all hunched as if their Daddy was telling them off But sure he's bringing lots of people along with him so that's great.

Piffle · 09/05/2007 11:15

Ahh don't get me started on The REV IP
Our family's nemesis for as long as I can remember, I know I was about 5 when I was taught to shout bad words at him on the tv [grin Much the same as I have taught ds1 and dd to do about GWB

Come from very Irish nationalist background - can't help it!

I love progress and bloody well done to them all for nutting it out and going for it.
Never thought I'd see the day.

Well the magic baby decided he wanted to go to bed at 4pm yesterday...
So I let him.
fed /changed him again at 7.30pm and put him to bed,
Went to the pub with dp for two pints (mum was here) Fed him at 11 - he did awake and was joyous between 1-2am and them slept til 7.30

Not complaining!

Mossy sounds like the LLL gave you lots more confidence and reassurance, so hope it makes a difference so you can start enojoying Bertie more. Good luck at the dr's (now)

Right off to collect dd shortly...

Rosylily · 09/05/2007 11:30

Piffle- but just imagine if you are a prod and he is supposed to represent you! very so we hated him too, but apparently if you had a problem he was the mp to go to no matter what foot you kicked with. And i have a reluctant bit of admiration for him now because he had the courage to do what he swore he never would And it had to be him. Anyway touch wood it all works out!

foxcub · 09/05/2007 12:41

The amazing thing about the Rev is he kind of seems as though he belongs to a bygone era doesn't he?

I used to think he was evil (I grew up in a 2nd generation Irish nat family - grandad used to have pics of the pope and Paul hill - birmingham six -on his wall!) - but now things ahve moved on there is something almost endearing about him - well maybe that's going too far eh? LOL

divastrop · 09/05/2007 13:03

i have absolutley no idea what any of you are talking about..not that im ignorant or anything but since i was 17 any talk of religion and politics has prompted me to stick my fingers in my ears and sing 'lalalala'

Elsie is a bit better today, she has her 6 week check(will be 9 weeks on friday!)with the gp tomorrow so i may as well get her to check her then.

im shattered today, feel like im on another planet even though Elsie only woke up at the normal times.

dolly-when i was bf ds1,i went for a pub lunch with my mum and i needed to feed him,so i went into the toilets and my mum asked why i didnt just feed him at the table.yet she ff me and my sister and knew nothing of bf

Rosylily · 09/05/2007 13:31

One of our favourite hobbies here in NI is to take the piss out of the political situation. And Big Ian is just perfect for that! There are some brilliant local comedy programmes.
But Diva you are very sensible to pay no attention!

It is a lovely day today. I have to go to the dentist this afternoon and I'm really nervous. My Dad is going to help with the kids...a big lump of tooth fell out

kiwibella · 09/05/2007 14:53

Rosy... that doesn't sound good (the chunk of tooth not the appointment ). I hate the dentist too - there is a bit about the trepidation of visiting the dentist in the Paul McKenna book you have . Hope it's not too late to pull it out!!

I'm shattered too Diva - and I can't understand why. I just can't get going.

Kate is sitting in her bouncy chair with the gym in front of her. She is absolutely pi££ing herself laughing at the animals - it's hilarious.

Dh is "working" from home today

foxcub · 09/05/2007 15:36

Rosy good luck at the dentist!

Diva/Kiwi - I've got loads of energy today - must be all the chocolate I eat

TheBlonde · 09/05/2007 16:06

Sorry I only skimmed the thread but have some questions

Re jabs - who has been offered BCG for their babies? I think it's only offered in high risk regions now

Gross qu now - baby's neck folds - how I am supposed to keep them clean them they keep going red and smelly. DS was skinny so didn't have all these rolls to clean

Fox - glad you got a result from your complaint. I might have to do the same as the GP will only do new baby check on Mon pm and they never have any appts which will allow me to do nursery pickup
I did get the P&T, the new sport version. Very pleased with it overall, it is a dream to push.

foxcub · 09/05/2007 17:26

TheBlonde - thanx for P*T feedback

BCG - think you are right - high risk areas only

Can't help about baby folds. I just bath Monti then dry each fold individually and powder. But you may need some anti-fungal cream by the sounds of it, from your GP...?

TheBlonde · 09/05/2007 17:27

cheers Foxy, I think I just need to make the effort to wash the baby more frequently!

foxcub · 09/05/2007 17:29

Me too, as I suspect that was why Monti's tum button was smelly - he didn't get a daily bath. Am giving him an evening oatmeal bath now and he smells all nice and sleeps like a log

foxcub · 09/05/2007 17:30

TheBlonde - any tips on cheapest place to purchase Phil&Teds (excluding e-bay as I want it for the weekend)? Cheapest I've found so far is £377 for a double one incl raincover.

cheers m'dear

TheBlonde · 09/05/2007 17:35

Oxford Pram Centre or Kiddicare probably do a good price. OPC delivered next day
