Morning all - new thread as the old one's about to hit the 1000 posts limit.

Not so great this morning - feel like an egg-bound chicken IYSWIM. Grrr - especially as I managed to avoid it all the way through pregnancy. And not sure if there's anything I can take for it while I'm feeding?

Good luck Mossy
Hope the LLL lady is a help.
other things to check for are high palate maybe as this can cause feeding difficulties.
But I'm sure it's not that complicated
Have you tried anything like infacol, Finn is not colicky but I have given him some when he has been very fussy following a feed and it has worked really well
Lunar _ my left one seems to flow twice as fast and furious as the right, when Finn power vomits it's always after that boob, he is getting better - I tend to pop him off when let down occurs and spray it into a muslin until it calms down. Yeah he gets hacked off but it saves untold washing for me! I am prsuming he will cope better as he grows...
Right so much housework to do.

Oooh got my lilypadz breast pads
FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

divastrop · 08/05/2007 11:16

rosy-lol at the baaa-ing shepherd.
dp and i dont argue about bills cos i deal with all that stuff.dp moved in with me and id been on my own for 3 years so i was used to it.

mossy-hope you get some good advice today, you are doing so brilliantly and i am impressed by your determination.

its interesting everybody talking about ages.when i turn 40 two of my children will be adults
i hope they dont make me a grandmother too early!

i forgot to wake up this morning,i think i though it ws still bank holiday or something.anyway,i had to send ds and dd1 to school by themselves and ds2 was 10 minutes late for nursery.that is so not like me,im normally more organised than that.

has anybody seen the pantyliner thread?its very funny.

divastrop · 08/05/2007 11:21

lunar-thats very interesting about the allergies.if the pet hair thing is true than Elsie wont ahve a problem.dd2 seems to only get excema in the warm weather.dd1 used to get it then as well till she was about 4,and they were both born in december.

LunarSea · 08/05/2007 11:21

If you google "hygiene hypothesis" there's loads of stuff about how being too clean can increase susceptiblity to allergies/asthma. So that's why ds1 is so disgustingly healthy then - because my house is a tip

OP posts:
LunarSea · 08/05/2007 11:27

diva - seasonal excema, especially if it's in springtime, is often a reaction to tree/grass pollens. Does she get it under he clothes, or just on arms/legs which are exposed becuse she's wearing short/short sleeves/dresses?

OP posts:
kiwibella · 08/05/2007 11:50

Diva... when I am 40, MissE will be as good as an adult too - she'll be 18 anyways!! My mum was devastated to become a grandmother before she turned 40 (she was 39).

Lunar there's definately some benefit to my untidyness then!! Is it just that we are overly clean or is there some contribution from pollution etc?

Infacol has given me a dream baby over the weekend. I also think she has been run down by a cold. A snotty nose is obvious but now that she is chattering and smiley I have realised that she wasn't for a couple of days (if that makes sense!?!)

LaidbackinEngland · 08/05/2007 12:02

Hi all

Rosy, glad you had a good holiday !

Good luck with LLL mossy !

Snap Lunar... my kids have had to run the gauntlet of my unclean home. Actually, that is a bit unfair on myself..... it is always clean, but they have been told it's ok to eat things if you drop them on the floor at home, I have never sterilized etc ! DH found a chocolate bar (unwrapped) whilst he was walking along the beach the other day - which he ate much to DS1s disdain.

I was in shock this morning... lovely nursery nurse came round and weighed and measured Amos prior to his 6 week check this pm. He is a lardy boy and has put on 5lbs since he was born ....so why isn't the weight dropping off me ?

Anyway the reason I am suprised is that the GP surgery telephoned me today to say would they like me to rearrange my 6 week appt to today soit ties in with Amos, so I only have to go in once ? GP, helpful AND proactive ? Not words I have previously used in the same sentence

Anyone heard from Jay ? Hope she is OK. Love to you if you are around.

eidsvold · 08/05/2007 12:18

just had a fab experience - ducked out to do the grocery shopping taking dd3 with me. She was a dream until towards the end when she started crying - the customer service woman popped on a check out and put my groceries through - packed them ( as they do).

then called a guy over to pack my bags into the trolley and to wheel the trolley out to my car leaving me to just cuddle dd3 and carry her out. he even packed the groceries into the car!! how fabulous - am going to write and say how fabulous they were.

foxcub · 08/05/2007 13:12

Laidback - my experience just now at GPs was opposite to yours and have just written a complaint.

We can never see HV as she is only available Fridays 1.30-3pm, so Monti has not been measured for 5 weeks and has had no 6 week check

Gps refuse to do either measuring or 6 week check

Made an appt for 1st jab and just arranged my whole bloody day around his jabs to be told when I arrived he can't have the jabs as he hasn't seen the HV

So we have a catch 22 - where I can't see HV due to her limited availability and he can't be immunised until we see HV

glad yours was better...

shanks313 · 08/05/2007 13:15

Deanna just had her first immunisation...I was more worried about it than her.She cried for about a minute then went back to sleep.Has been asleep since
Im just waiting for the unsettleness later.

sazzybee · 08/05/2007 13:37

Lovely photos eidsvold and piffle

Eidsvold - what a lovely (and rare) supermarket experience. I have twice had people helping me with the pushchair when I was trying to carry things too - it didn't occur to me that carrying a tray and pushing a pushchair was a bit beyond my capabilities

Laidback/fox - I didn't even know that there was supposed to be a 6 week check up - no one told me. I'm taking him in tomorrow for his 8 week jabs so I suppose they'll check him over then. All my friends say there were no after effects with their LOs so hopefully laidback ours will be the same

Well it's all gone pear-shaped here - Elliot was awake crying from about 6 till 11 last night and has only just gone back to sleep after being awake since 9 this morning so that's 4 1/2 hours awake . He is tired and grumpy and I stink Right - off to have a shower

Rosylily · 08/05/2007 14:13

Someone opened a till for me in sainsburys when I was heavily pregnant. It is so nice when people are kind.

Ds2 is allergic to dogs, cats, dustmites, egg and sesame...he was on antibiotics for the first 6 weeks of his life which I bet didn't help. Both dd and ds2 benefitted from our trips to Pakistan skinwise. I found live yoghurt in the diet helpful in managing the excema.
Dd has extreme peanut allergy though and we have to carry epipens....just waiting and hoping Hasan will be excema and allergy free.
If there was anything I could do, I would -just haven't a clue what. Applying more dirt shouldn't be too hard though

Mossie · 08/05/2007 15:07

Well I don't think Bertie will ever have an allergy problem then. Our house is a tip, never really gets dusted, and we have two dogs, one of which always malts, and a cat!!!

Went to LLL woman and she was brilliant, told mil that no he didn't need topping up and no it wouldn't create a negative association if I put him to the breast every time he cried, checked my latch, said it was okay but that because of how I was sitting he "slid off" a little when I stopped supporting my breast with the other hand so she told me atm if that happened to relatch him every time so he learns that he only gets milk when he's 100% latched on... explained to me how to latch him on better when I was lying down, too. And the centre was lovely, all the people who worked there really friendly. She asked me to keep going every Tuesday afternoon until I was sure I had bf "cracked".

Oh and she taught me another way of soothing him that I'd never thought of ... rubbing his tummy! And it works a dream!

Oh and she didn't tell me off for using a dummy which I was nervous about (I know that sounds silly but you hear about some bf experts who are really anti dummies).

Anyway on Thursday I'm getting him weighed so we'll see if he's putting on more weight, which is the main thing.

Right, the Kraken awakes so I'd better go...

Rosylily · 08/05/2007 15:32

Brilliant Mossy

divastrop · 08/05/2007 16:30

mossy-sound like you had a really positive experience.tummy rubbing is a good one, both for burping and the other end.i did infant massage with ds2 and it was brilliant,i used it on dd2 and i massage Elsie before her bath every night.

kittyhas6 · 08/05/2007 16:44

That's great Mossie. Are you feeling more confident now?

Bloody hell somehow I've got 8 children in the kitchen, and they are all eating and shouting .

That's why i am on here

sazzybee · 08/05/2007 18:46

I'm really pleased mossie - I really hope this means you turn a corner.

Kitty - 8 kids in yr kitchen! are they multiplying?!

fox - that's ridiculous that the HV is only available once a week! Can you ring your health authority? You can't be the only person who can't make that time.

Lunar that's really interesting about the allergies - I've wondered if there was some connection with our too clean lives but didn't know there was any scientific research to back that up. Hopefully Elliot won't have any allergies either - I'm constantly picking cat hairs off him! Rosylily - that must be tough with DS2 and his allergies. My sister was like that when she was young and grew out of pretty much all of them except for asthma so maybe he will too?

I took the miracle non-sleeping baby out in the car this afternoon as the car seat is sure fire sleep drug and he didn't sleep so I wandered around with him in the sling and he didn't sleep until there was only 10 mins left on the meter! So I had to put him back in his car seat and he woke up again. Typical! So I have put him down now for a nap and he has gone quiet but tends to wake up after 30 mins so we'll see how it goes.

I've tried massaging E and he hates it. Do you think he'll grow into it? I'd really like to do it but it's only in the last week or so that he's been okay about having his clothes off.

divastrop · 08/05/2007 20:18

sazzy-Elsie used to scream when i first massaged her.i only did her tummy quickly at first,it took about 2 weeks for her to get used to it now she loves it.

kiwibella · 08/05/2007 20:36

So glad that the LLL was helpful Mossie!! Hope you are feeling brighter.

foxcub · 08/05/2007 20:57

Mossie - so glad it went well today - bet youy feel a lot better about the feeding now?

Still in a bad mood about the GP today - why do I have to make hundreds of calls and jump through hoops in order to get my baby vaccinated ?

I'm not even happy about multiple vaccines so its a bit ironic I have to fight so hard to get him a bloody appt for his 6 week check just so he can have the blasted didgy vaccines

I arranged my whole day around his appt today and now I've got no idea when he'll be seen

foxcub · 08/05/2007 20:58

dodgy vaccines, not didgy bloody vaccines ...hmmmph

kittyhas6 · 08/05/2007 20:59

That's a bummer Foxy for you

divastrop · 08/05/2007 21:15

fox-sounds bloody daft to me.Elsie was meant to have her jabs today but i cancelled it cos of her cold.i only saw the HV when she came round after the MW discharged me.my HV isnt even attached to the gps surgery, here we just get sent appointments for the jabs from the central admin thingy.

my HV when dd2 was tiny used to run a clinic once a week from 2-4,which was no good considering i had to leave at 2.30 to pick up the others from school.havent had dd2 weighed sice she was 12 weeks old
they dont seem to understand that some people have other children.
its a government conspiracy,we arent allowed to have more than 2 children, its an eco-crime dont you know

CallieNewMum · 08/05/2007 21:28

I had a seven week wait between Jordi's first and second set of imms, which I was not amused by. I rang the surgery to find out wtf was going on and was told I had to wait to be sent an appt. Then rang the HV, who said they basically had too many babies to do in time. . now am wondering how many weeks it will take to get the third lot. Ours are sent by central admin too Diva.

Muppet, I'm not a teacher and I have an adult novel started but figure it will take me about 20 years to write it, if ever !

Mossy, SO pleased you've had a good result from LLL. Brilliant. I live in Cardiff by the way, so my nearest people from the thread are the Londoners. It used to be Rainbowgirl, but she seems to have disappeared. Where has Jay gone, btw? Hope everything's ok Jay if you are reading.

Jordi will definitely get used to cat hair, dust, certain level of acceptable dirt etc in our house. Actually I do worry about the dust here because it is a very dusty house - it's about 130 years old and it shows.

foxcub · 08/05/2007 21:41

We never even got sent an appointment... Totally agree, Diva, about parents with other kids - that's the whole point I was trying to make to them - anyone with more than 1 child can't attend at 3pm

anyway - will shut up about it now and be grateful that's all I have to worry about...
