Morning all - new thread as the old one's about to hit the 1000 posts limit.

Not so great this morning - feel like an egg-bound chicken IYSWIM. Grrr - especially as I managed to avoid it all the way through pregnancy. And not sure if there's anything I can take for it while I'm feeding?

Oh answers
Am using tots bamboozles and bambineos
Prefer the bambineos muchly and will buy more, just tested them out really only bought a few to see as Finn is a heavy wetter.

CallieNewMum · 07/05/2007 21:50

Morocco, for premmie babies when they are first born if they can tolerate milk they will literally get 1ml an hour for the first day or so (and possibly much, much longer if their tums can't hold it) so you can see 100ml goes a long, long way for the tiny ones. You're doing great work, you should be really proud of yourself, speaking on behalf of the premmie mothers of the world! I'd imagine in my hospital as usual this issue was not so much the HIV screening per se but the cost/resources issue that would have scuppered it. Very sad.

Fox, I'm 36, hence my interest in your age having your first! I was 35 when Jordi was born but it was my birthday a few weeks later so obviously I should have been 36 anyway for his arrival. I'm wondering if it's feasible - assuming I manage to get pregnant again that is - to squeeze in another two... or should that be squeeze out! My great-grandmother was 36 having her first, and she had two before she was 40 and two after, so there's an example. Not that I think I'd manage that, tbh I was so tired today I thought, you must be mad even thinking of having another one! (I will though, fingers crossed). Btw the babies at the meeting were older than Jordi, in fact there were a couple of toddlers. Once again, I thanked my lucky stars that he is growing so well, because there were a couple of tinies (for their ages) there.

Diva, didn't get sidetracked that night, but did last night! Sorry if TMI... I'm a Pampers user too and am also thinking I should buy shares. The bamboo nappies sound interesting though Piffle and others.

Mossy, glad you had a better day, I've been thinking of you lots the past few days. Bertie might surprise you with sleeping. I've thought that before, when Jordi has slept all day that I'd be in for it at night, but he has just slept as normal, so fingers crossed. As Diva said, don't worry about him getting into 0-3 clothes yet. He's still a newborn. You said he is putting on weight - the rate doesn't matter.

Muppet, I wrote a few books a number of years ago for children. Three were historical fiction linked to the national curriculum and one was a factual book for teens with a low reading age. They were for Watts and Heinemann.

Went to my mum's on Sunday and came back this eve. My god, Jordi screamed the whole day when he wasn't sleeping today! Just when I think he's getting better... he did the same when we went to DP's dad's last week and met some more of his relatives. He doesn't half pick his times. I felt terrible looking at him screaming and not knowing what was wrong. On days like this, the only think that keeps him quiet is a bottle. I still think he may be teething too though because he's drooling quite a bit. Also did monster poo again! Peeked out over to his poking-out belly button - eugh.

I'm jealous of this talk of a northern meet up too! I don't live near anyone .

Kitty, sorry you've been feeling down and glad the ADs are helping. When I'm feeling dead tired, like today, I think of you and do wonder how on earth you cope. As well as the broken sleep, tbh it's as much the physical aspect of motherhood I find tiring, the picking up baby, all the equipment you have to lug around and assemble etc. I'm not very strong and I regret not having done weight training before I got pregnant!

TheBlonde - hope your nip improves. Mine keeps bleeding, and I keep thinking I'll stop with the little bits I'm doing, but then I find I can't. Mind you, I only do it about twice a day which obviously is not an option for you.

Eids, I had a good snigger at your little encounter with your ex. I bet you felt great - karma indeed. I love the fact he gave YOU a dirty look - probably because he realised what an idiot he had been !

morocco · 07/05/2007 22:02

that's really inspiring to hear, callie, although I have to admit tonight i have fallen off the wagon and drank a double baileys so I'm not sure if I should express tomorrow. i've promised myself I'll try to express for 5 days out of 7 and then get a bit drunk the other two nights! poor emily though - although hopefully she;ll sleep better .

you sound like you're getting broody again! I would have thought you've got time to get yourself a fair few more babies

northern meet up sounds great - am looking forward to it already.

can I ask a boring stupid question about breast pumps cos I keep agonising about it. after using, I wash it straight away but should I then sterilise it and pack away to use the next day or sterilise it the next day just before I use it? sorry - deadly dull I know but I am getting quite stressed about it

CallieNewMum · 07/05/2007 22:06

Morocco - I'd sterilise it just before you use it, because if you do it the night before it won't technically be sterile when you use it. Are you cold sterlising or steam or microwave? The reason I ask is I was told always to cold sterilise my breast pump equipment. If you are, you can just leave it in the water as long as it's changed every 24 hours. Sorry if i'm stating the obvious!

CallieNewMum · 07/05/2007 22:09

Btw I got broody again about 2 hours after jordi was born! And despite all the trials and the fear of having another premmie, which would be even more difficult logistically now that I have one child, I'm just wondering how much recovery time I should give myself before I start TTCing again.. nearly did last night - much self-control exercised by DP . He's keen for another one too. TMI?

Piffle · 07/05/2007 22:12

I used to donate when I was bf ds1 13 yrs ago. This was in NZ.
Nowhere close to us here takes donated milk sadly.

kittyhas6 · 07/05/2007 22:28

Callie, Diva and I have babies close together, Diva especially. 11 months I think, mine are 14 and 15 months. It's ruddy hard work, especially if the new baby is a screamer. But it also has its advantages!

Diva, I meant that you you should stop beating yourself up, kitty's slapping your wrists!!!

Morocco, I think you're doing so well to express and donate milk, well done you

Piffle · 07/05/2007 22:37

Yep respect you ladies that have them close together... I've got a 9yr gap then a 4.5 yr gap
I'm a woos

Popped a new pic up in my profile of the pork pie child that is Finn

morocco · 07/05/2007 22:43

aww - cute little finn! d'you know, bizarrely he looks just like my emily! is it just that all babies look the same or a spooky coincindence? poor emily, everyone thinks she is a boy.

thanks for advice callie, i think I'll start cold sterilising cos it sounds less hassle as well, then I won't be worrying about whether things are sterile or not

divastrop · 07/05/2007 22:45

callie-my ds1 is only 11 months older than dd1.they were both born in 1998,he in january and she in december.honestly,it was bloody hard work, but i still maintain that ds1 on his own was the hardest work of all

its great now, they have grown up together and do loads together.and fight and do my head in...

the 15 month age gap is fine sofar, the only difficulty is not being able to leave the 2 lo's in the same room unsupervised as dd2 can be a bit overly affectionate to Elsie.

at least she cant pick her up,though, like ds2 did last week.he walked into the front room with heri nearly s**t myself.

a reind of mine who had her youngest at 32 weeks said she felt broody as soon as he was born, because she felt like she should still be pregnant and she got some tablets from the doctor and the broodiness went.he was her 3rd child, though, and they werent planning on anymore.

shanks313 · 07/05/2007 23:02

Hey everyone,

Everythings gong well here.Deanna is having her first injection tomorrow....almost 2 weeks late as shes coming up 10 weeks.Im hoping she will take it well...fingers crossed.
Shes still sleeping well, for the last 5 days it has been around 9.30-6.30 each night.

Callie- I dont think you are mad being broody-we have already started TTC no 2 We want to get the sleep deprivation out the way all together and our child bearing done by 35,we are 31 now lol.

Rosylily · 07/05/2007 23:07

Got the cob webs blown out of me by the atlantic breeze, kids had a ball and were great.

I spent ages being most entertained reading everyones news but don't know where to start responding! I second everyone elses responses though!

Umm Gorgeous new piccys there Foxy and Eidsvold! beautiful cherubs they are.

Morocco-brilliant donating your milk what a woman!

Spongecake I laughed at you caring how you look by wearing clothes that don't show up the milk spillages!

Mossy, Bertie is probably colicky. Hasan is the first baby I've had out of the four who wasn't colicky and the difference is like chalk and cheese. It'll pass and you are a lovely sweet funny person and Bertie is going to adore having such a great mum.

Callie, I had ds1 at 24 then dd at 36, ds2 at 38, ds3 at 40...You've got plenty of time to have a few more

Diva- Dh and I had been together 2 weeks running and it was his leaving day. We nearly always have a yapping match over something trivial...then we are both glad to see the back of each other makes parting easier This time it was about the bills.

Yesterday I was sitting in a caravan on the beautiful headland with my sis and family...a van drives up and beeps then the driver gets out and shouts BAAAA really loudly at the headland...then some sheep baaa back and start to gather in the distance...it was the shepherd at feeding time

Rosylily · 07/05/2007 23:12

ooh and lovely new piccy Piffle and I was just thinking he looks very like Hasan Morocco!

Shanks go girl! Hope you get your wish soon how exciting (and slightly mad) I'm still broody and having to be strong because dh keeps tempting me to have another but I think I'll grow out of the urge in a few weeks or so...

Rosylily · 07/05/2007 23:15

Diva, dd picked up ds2 when she was 2 and he was a few weeks and carried him into the kitchen to me dh was meant to be watching them of course! It was a ridiculous and heart stopping sight!

eidsvold · 07/05/2007 23:17

haven't caught up on all the messages

foxy - another thing for red bums - calendula cream - was brilliant for dd2.

dd3 isn't much of a wriggler feeding BUT she loves being in her chair - reclined and watching the world go by. She is really starting to take notice of the other two now - gives them smiles when she hears their voices.

Had a rough night last night - she was unsettled and just fed the whole night - 5pm until 11pm when finally in exhaustion gave her a little bit of formula and she went to sleep - woke at around 5am which is usual.

I have a newborn insert in my pram which supports her head and she is held more securely in the pram - the straps are huge on her though.

Yesterday was a bank holiday for us too - we just veged around and dh took the dds to the park in the afternoon. I was knackered - did not sleep well the night before and so managed a couple of hours rest.

better scoot and get the dds ready to take dd1 to kindy and dd3 to GP for 6 week checkup.

eidsvold · 08/05/2007 05:53

right

morocco - go for the cold water sterilising - I do that for my breast pump and just change it every day. Then just pluck it out , put it together, quick wipe with a paper towel and away you go.

callie/shanks - can't remember who - I was 34 just after dd1 was born, 36 just before dd2 and now 38 when I had dd3. plenty of time left.

piffle - gorgeous pic.

well had lunch with some mums from kindy - mothers day thing ( our mother's day is this weekend coming). conversation was not that exciting and I just wanted to go to sleep. Man - I realised how much older than some of these I am and how materialistic I am NOT compared to some of these.

LunarSea · 08/05/2007 09:34

callie - I was 36 when i had ds1, 41 with ds2- so you should be able to fit another 1/2 yet.

Have been away over the weekend so haven't caught up with all your news yet.

Something weird is happening here on the bf front - left breast (just the left one) has suddenly started producing loads more milk - but it's mostly going to waste because it's just streaming out constantly, and if I feed Toby from that side the flow seems to be too fast for him because half the time he's either choking on it or bringing a lot of it up again later. Bit of a new experience as I never had enough milk with ds1. Am half thinking that I should express from that side before feeding him, but it's a bit chicken and egg if that increases the supply even more?

foxcub · 08/05/2007 10:13

Lunar - you could try always starting with the right boob for a day or so, to calm your milky left one down a bit

I often get that with my right boob - it kind of bursts with milk and is very leaky.

Monti is in his car seat and I have piled some bright toys on his lap - incl a tacky plastic tambourine which he loves people to shake so he can stare at it until his eyes cross!!

Callie - I had DS1 at 36, DD at 39 and Monti at 43, Should have been 42 but I miscarried the year before. I was broody when still PG with DD (suddenly realised I wanted 3) but we have had to leave three year gaps due to childcare costs

can't complain though - have three gorgeous DCs now

I posted on here ages ago that the Prophet Mohammed married his wife when he was 25 and she was 40 and she went on to have FIVE kids between 40 and 49 - and with no washing machine,.

Totally agree about the physical side though - I had so much excess energy when in my 20's I should have had kids then....now I really feel the strain of lifting kids, car seats, babies etc

foxcub · 08/05/2007 10:15

Mossie - let us know how it goes today with LLL and the GP

muppethasakitten · 08/05/2007 10:15

Diva I just used normal porridge oats from the supermarket... packed them into the foot of an old pair of tights and fitted it over the tap. Then i ran the water through it into the bath... it really does work... her skin used to feel lovely after a bath! You should defo try it.

Piffle your photos are great.. you are all putting me to shame that i haven't updated mine.. might try today

Sazzy i never used to drink on a daily basis until i had children! I'm pretty sure it's a common theme many of us share!

Callie are you a teacher? Should look at your profile really shouldn't I! Have never worked for them... most of the stuff is for Scholastic or then really small publishers. Do you think you will do any more?

Rosy very at you lovely trip... would loved to have seen the shepherd baaing at his sheep...

Mossy good luck with LLL today... hope it boosts your confidence and gives you some peace about what you're doing.

The best advice I got from my HV when I was stressing and having the baby from hell was to stop obsessing about how long/when he was sleeping etc... to just tell other mums that asked that he was sleeping through the night brilliantly etc and to just go with the flow. As soon as i relaxed and just let him get on with it... suddenly things began to improve... does that make any sense?

foxcub · 08/05/2007 10:19

Rosy LOL at the sheperd talking to his sheep

Muppet - I do the same with the porridge for Monti - its so simple I think I'll now put it in the bigger ones bath (DS1 has occassional eczma and very dry skin so it will help hik too I think)

Mossie · 08/05/2007 10:43

Morning all,

Bertie was up most of the night feeding but has finally started to kip, so I am taking the chance to fix myself a decaff coffee and come on here...

Going to see the LLL woman today, couldn't get to the dr's until tomorrow at eleven.

Shanks can't believe you're already ttc no. 2, I'm well impressed! I think dh will take some convincing that we should even think about a number two... let alone the three that I'd like!

Morocco we've had non-stop snooker on here too, I really can't be bothered with it, I find it very boring. But then again I don't like any sports really except the cricket!!

Callie where do you live btw?

I'm excited about a Northern meet-up, anyone else here live nearer the flat caps than the bowler hats?

Sazzy / Kitty Bertie waves his hands around and tries to grab hold my boob when he is latching on. Dh thinks it's particularly hilarious for some reason.

Muppet you are right in that since I have tried to stop obsessing he has been a little better... actually I'd better not say that and jinx it!!

Rosy glad you had a good break!

Everyone else I have read messages but right now I'm going to enjoy this very rare break and go and drink my decaff coffee and read a book and listen to Kate Bush... Will hopefully get back later or tomorrow and let you know how the LLL sesh went. XXX

Rosylily · 08/05/2007 10:44

I've got me notebook out for the oats tip. What is it with all the excema and allergies?
There must be a reason why so many of our children have them nowadays!!???!!!?

Bit grumpy today...post camp depression and the house is a mess. Plus all that enjoying yourself is hardwork and I'm tired.
Sigh, oh well. Stuff it, going to play with ds2 and 3 and neglect housework! (again)

kiwibella · 08/05/2007 10:58

aargh, Eids - I still haven't organised Mother's Day cards for the grandies!! They will have to forgive me this year .

Sounds like great advice from you HV, Muppet. It's so easy to feel like what you are doing doesn't match up to what other mums are doing. Who knows, they're all probably stretching the truth too .

Fox... love the image of a cross-eyed Monti!! As for no washing machine .

Take it easy Rosy... yes, there must be some reason our children suffer from so many ails nowadays.

Hi to everyone else - hope things are going ok for you and your likkle bubbas.

LunarSea · 08/05/2007 11:11

Rosy/kiwi - there's quite a lot of research which says that a lot of the allegies are because things are almost too clean and hygenic so kids don't come into contact with low-level exposure to them, and don't beuild up resistance. I've read stuff about deliberatley exposing newborns to things like cat and dog hair, etc because if they experience it as normal at the same time as their immune systems are learning about all the other "normal" things in the world they learn to accept it as normal, and therefore won't react in future. Don't expose them to it, and it might later be treated as alien - hence causing a reaction. I'll try to find some links.
