Hi all,

It's kind of cosy on this thread and easy to have a quick catch up! Hope you're all fine and enjoying LOs. Samsmam, my DS (6 months on Sat) also rolls on to his front and gets his arm trapped, then cries!

I've been weaning for 3 weeks now, he loves it, will start giving a bit of protein next week, but am worried about salt issues, like cheddar cheese etc has loads of salt, doesn't it? Also, does anyone know what age you can give tomatoes? If no allergies in the family etc.

Another more selfish mum related issue, but are any of you having trouble getting your tummy back? I'm back at pre preg weight, doing loads of exercise (well, 2-3 times a week), still bf, and yet I still have a pouch. Then I got paranoid because on another thread they said sometimes your stomach muscles separated and if you've done exercise it can make it worse. it's really horrible poking around in your tummy to see if they have, and there is a kind of dip, yikes! Does anyone else have this?

hi eyore and welcome.

I must say things are getting a bit easier now DS is older, he's a real person, not just a milk monster

EeyoreIsFab · 03/04/2007 14:52

EeyoreIsFab · 03/04/2007 14:56

DS is also rolling over and can get arm free, but doesn't seem a bit interested in trying to crawl. No teeth yet.

EeyoreIsFab · 03/04/2007 15:00

Feeding question for anyone weaning - how do you 'fit in' food and milk?

I've just upped DS's meals to 3 a day and want to make sure he's still getting enough milk.

BENDYB · 03/04/2007 15:04

devon is a nice name eeyore!

gemmity- my tummy is awful, nearly lost all the weight but my tummy is just really saggy & horrible. i hate it! not sure about a dip though.

Gemmitygem · 03/04/2007 15:05

Hi Eeyore,

I always offer the milk first, so in the morning he gets a full breastfeed, then has a bit of porridge and fruit. Then at 11 he gets nearly all the milk, then veg and potato or rice, then the rest of the milk if wants, then 2.30 just milk but not much, then at teatime half the milk (one breast), then rice and fruit, then bath, then other breast, then bed.

I'm no expert (1st time mum) but this seems to be working. I also mix the milk into his porridge, rice etc, just to give him a bit extra. Also offer him water in the afternoon but he's not really up for it. When he has protein I'll try and encourage more..

I've heard that the golden rule is offering milk first, so they take what they really need, rather than filling up on actual food which is not as nutritious..

Gemmitygem · 03/04/2007 15:09

I also like the name Devon.. makes you think of a really nice calm, strong person..

bendyb, I didn't know there was a dip till I read this other thread and felt it, you have to tense the muscles and feel just below your belly button, whether there is a gap, and there seemed to be with me, but it's hard to tell cos everything's flabby! oh the joys of motherhood!

BENDYB · 03/04/2007 15:17

ooh i'm gonna go & have a feel now!

samsmam · 03/04/2007 15:27

Hi Gemmitygem- the stomach bit is annoying. I am NOT down to pre-pregnancy weight but I always had a flat stomach (the only part of me that was!) Now it is like a tyre. Samantha is 6 months, Saturday too!

I am doing really badly dietwise- for the last two weeks I have been eating lots of rubbish! someone help! I can't get motivated as I'm feeling miserable.

wuzz- good to have you back.

Welcome eeyore. The HV said you just have to make sure they have at least 20oz of milk. It is difficult though. I give LO breakfast as soon as she wakes between (6.30 & 7.30)- porridge or fruit then 6oz of milk. 12pm- 4oz of milk then her solids- been all vegetables until now. Then comes the hard bit because she doesn't really get hungry again until 4.30pm so I give her 5-6oz then I end up dream feeding at about 8pm. I can't seem to sort the end of the day out!

Gingeme- hope you are enjoying your time with your boys.

Swizzler · 03/04/2007 20:44

Re weaning, am completely disorganised and kind of shovel in a bit of food about midday - we've jkust started doing breakfasts as well but even less organised . I'm not worrying too much at the moment as I'm back at work next week and so we'll have to adjust to a new routine anyway.

Anyone else finding that their LO won't eat certain foods? DS loves fruit purees, porridge was a big hit (he grabbed the poon and tried to shovel it in quicker) but vegetables are not as interesting. Tried some homemade carrot and potato puree and he just spat it out - so much for my hard work

Yes, we're meeting on the 11th at 1pm - could you let me know if you're coming by the weekend so I can book a table? I've started a thread in the meet-up section, so you can ask any questions on here or there. DS hates being left out of things and will NOT sit quietly in the buggy (as those who've been to previous meet-ups will know) but I'm quite good at eating one-handed!

Totally: what a dreadful scare for you. Did they work out what it was?

Hi Eeyore and welcome! And again to Gemmitygem: you flit in and out with your words of wisdom

Swizzler · 03/04/2007 20:44

tried finding my stomach muscles - ha!

taffy101 · 03/04/2007 21:58

totally - what a nightmare. Glad everything is ok - you must have been bricking it.

youngmum - glad you survived your first day back at work

samsmam - u will be so glad to get dh back to work - bet he's driving you mad

Gemmity - re stomach muscles i was paranoid about that after dd (3 yr ago) but it did go normal eventually - remember ladies it took 9 months to put all that weight on it should logically take at least that long to get rid too - thats my philosophy and i'm sticking to it teehee.

rumpel - we did go to lake district center parcs . Had a fabbo time but it can get very pricey. I searched threads on here before I went and got v. worried cos people quite scathing about it. However, the accomodation there must have been revamped recently as we were pleasantly surprised. V clean, well maintained, well equipped and spacious - dd even had en suite! Price of activities can mount up but we escaped from the site a couple of times. Once we went for a walk to aira force falls (near ullswater) with LO in carrier and once for a meal in Dacre in a strange 18th century pub (was ok nothing to write home about but restaurants in CP aren't either and they're in weird indoor village centre). Rambling again... Anyway we will return there - dd wants to live there!

welcome eeyore

No teeth, no rolling, no weaning here. Still sleeping like and angel though - thank god

Mellin · 04/04/2007 02:13

Hi all,
It's been awhile since I've posted and we are now on the other side of the world in Australia (just in case you thought I really was up posting on Mumsnet in the middle of the night).

Haven't caught up on all the thread so hope everyone is doing ok.

The 22 hour flight wasn't the nightmare I thought it was going to be. DD just slept and ate and slept and ate..... quite easy when you are breastfeeding too. Took her about 4 days to adjust to the new timezone but she is fine now.

I have barely seen her in the last week and a half with grandparents/great grandparents/ aunties/uncles etc all fussing over her. Have taken her to the beach a couple of times and she loves it

Swizzler · 04/04/2007 08:38

Hi Melin, lovely to hear from you (and at getting to the beach!). Anothe bad night for us, but tooth coming alomg nicely

Rumpel · 04/04/2007 09:58

Morning All,

Floaty - SCARY biscuits for you! Hope you are all recovered form the trauma and she is well now.

Welcome Eeyore and Hi to all the girls back on posting.

Gemmity - I am still 2 stone overweight, my tum used to be flat but is now a bit bulgy. I think your ab muscles should have gone back together by now but I'll ask my physio friend tomorrow. The 'apron' can be caused by the skin stretching when pg and it just can't go back to pre pg. This is usually genetic - depends on how elastic your skin is. I'm lucky - no stretchmarks and really good skin so am hoping when lose the weight mine will return to 'normal'.

Samsmam - are you a pear? Are you pre mental - maybe why you have been eating rubbish? I am and feel bloated and fat just now My DH would drive me crazy being home too, is his arm healed up yet?

Amber is 6 months old at 14.18 today Can't believe it. No rolling for us, 2 incisors are almost at the gum edge now though so should be through soon. New voice tones every day - she was practising B's yesterday.

Taffy - thanks for the info.

Eeyore - Devon is a lovely name but makes me think of custard (which is yummy so that is good) and hols (we used to go caravanning there when I was teeny).
Weaning - I have been giving Amber solids for about 6 weeks now. She gets boob fist thing, followed by porridge/baby rice/cereal, followed by formula milk about 5-6 ozs. Then about 3-4 hours later, lunch of veg/fruit/potato puree, then formula 6-7 ozs, then repeated after 3-4 hours. Bath about 6pm then 7ozs milk, play, booby, bed!

I tried her with a beaker yesterday with apple juice and water - no chance!

Gorgeous day here again - must go and get my uni assignments done as they are due in enxt week

purpleflower · 04/04/2007 10:15

Good morning everyone,

Rumpel, Isn't it amazing how quickly it has gone? Adam was 6 months on monday and I spent all of Sunday thinking, this time half a year ago!!

Gemmity, I was told by the physio after the birth that my muscles had seperated but that they would go back. I am about a stone away from my pre pg weight but cannot see even after losing it how my body will be the same size or shape it was. I was always an 8/10 am now a 12/14.

Weaning was very hit and miss to start with but we now have breakfast in between his first and second bottle, which is normally cereal or toast or similar. Then lunch at about 12 which is normally some veg followed by some fruit.

We have no teeth but we are well and truely on the move, Just got to work out how to go forward. He is rolling everywhere, crawling backwards ( properly up on all fours now, not just shuffling on his tummy), and can go from laying on his tummy to sitting on his own now.

Best run he's after my shoes again!

sorry to hear about your hard times Inthehouse. anna normaly decides to get grumpy and vocal when i decide to clean etc basically when she cant have 100% of my attention.so i end up having to stop every few minutes, pick her up (from her chair in whatever room im in, she's always in my sight) and try to finish what im doing with her in tow lol not easy. is this the kind of thing your having trouble with??

hi bendy

nowanearlyNicemum · 04/04/2007 12:42

hi all,
hope your little one has recovered now totally - how scary. what did they say it was in the end?
that sounds tough inthehouse - I've not really been in the same position but I know on occasions when dd1 was like that I'd put her in the sling and at least be able to get on with stuff. when dd2 gets grumpy I'm lucky enough to have dd1 to act the clown and entertain her (well, at least for long enough to get some dinner cooked or some washing done!!)
no rolling, sitting, crawling, weaning for us... and no sleeping through the night either. all in good time, all in good time, all in good time (my current mantra!!)

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with saggy tummy issues, I guess it just goes with the territory and I should be grateful that my, er, lady bits got off scot free!

going to start DS on protein to celebrate him turning 6 months! have asked on the weaning thread about it, confused about whether you have to puree tuna and stuff like that. It's all a learning curve, that's for sure. With the second kid I won't read any sodding baby books! You just worry about every tiny thing and everything's new, surely it MUST be better with a second!

samsmam · 04/04/2007 15:57

rumpel- a definite pear I am! All round my hips and thighs. I am really frustrated with the weight issue as it is really getting to me and I shouldn't let it. After my two weeks off slimming world am going back and accept the fact that I failed for two weeks and start a new day tomorrow.
Only 7 weeks until my hols, and two weddings to go to as well.

I won £191 on the Irish lottery today! So I celebrated and bought two sets of drawers from Ikea!

Swizzler · 04/04/2007 16:32

Inthehouse: DS is pretty demanding as well and it does get tiring (and there are 2 of us at home to look after him). Would second the sling recommendation - DS objects when I first put him in, but then he's happy. We have a wrap sling and he loves being carried on my back as he can see what's going on! I comfort myself through the hectic days and wakeful nights with the thought that he is just really really alert and interested in stuff
