Of course Caddy, although you will have to sleep in the shed...well, the kids anyway! Our place is a bit titchy, but honestly you are very welcome. Weren't you talking about coming with DD2 some time ago, or have I remembered that wrong? Glad the boss dinner went ok! I know what you mean about tidying up for guests, its great motivation! I have lowered my standards considerably over the last 3 years such that I am now happy for friends to drop in any time and see our mess, but hte boss is a very different kettle of fish!

Uni, good for you re the race! Gosh, I'm not sure I could run 1k even, in fact, I'm quite sure I could not! Even in the height of my fitness (ie, at school when I played lots of sport), I could not have run that far!

I'm sure you are right about weight loss - its the incidental, 'life' excersize you do isn't it. I lost weight so much easier after I had DD, and it was because I used to walk with the buggy all the time. Its so much harder with 2 though, as DD uses a buggy board, but hops off a lot and so walking anywhere is slooooooooow.

Am starting a gym class on Thurs now that DS is old enough for the gym creche, so hopefully that will help. Now that the weather is nicer we will also be atempting to walk more often to church for playgroup and womens group, its only about 1k but takes up to 40 mins with DCs (about 15-20 on my own or with jusr DS...grrrr)

I am keen to do more excersize so that I can still eat as much - diets and me are not friends!

Greetings LL and Friz.

Btw, what ever happened to mUnz?

Astrophe · 15/04/2007 21:18

Uni, here is a thread that needs your attention...How difficult is unicycling?

Frizbe · 15/04/2007 21:34

I think Munz is having computer trouble!

Astro, Top tip from me for diets is portion sizes, just cut them down a teeny bit and you loose a lot more, whilst still eating yummy stuff and don't eat the kids leftovers (I'm a sod for hating waste, but I'm binning it, if it won't keep)
I'll mail you a contract!! free!

Uni, go girl!! 5 k isn't too far (says the woman whose not run it, since race for life went all corporate round here and you can't get onto it for love nor money)

Caddy, are you coming over??? yay! pop by!!
I think there may be something else on the way whistles off into the distance!

I'm off on me jollies on Tue, so if I don't get back on before have fun with out me, back soon!!

UniSarah · 15/04/2007 21:53

thanks for the tip off astro. I've posted on the should I get him a uni thread.
We just had another great afternoon and evening at the cricket club, boy was as happy as a little boy playing in dust can be. VERY tired by the time we came home but still in a jolly mood.

laundrylover · 17/04/2007 21:32

Hi all,

Friz, think you've gone off on holiday so have a good 'un!! Tell us all about it when you get back....

Astro, we used the contract that Friz has sent you for our tenants - she's a great MN friend eh? Our bike trailer is from Halfords, it's on offer at the mo at £100 and despite the bit that fell off I would really recommend it. Today I phoned the makers (Moorelarge) who were lovely and are posting me the bit that fell off. He agreed that they did sometimes bounce off so reckon I will store the buggy wheel in the back as it only takes a second to screw on. We can also get a spare towbar so that both our bikes are trailer ready.

Uni, I agree that cycling with the trailer is good exercise but my weight loss has all been down to Slimming World which really suits me - HUGE portions and a daily treat or two!!! Having a guzzly toddler on your boob helps too though. I'm thinking about becoming a Slimming World consultant - what does anyone think? It would be quite social and pay my childcare every month!

Astrophe · 18/04/2007 22:39

LL, she is a great MN buddy! She has saved us £150!!!!

I checked out that bike trailer on Halfords site and am now bugging Dh to buy it - a quick search of posh chariot ones indicated that they are way out of our price range! I have estimated the DCs weights a year from now using the red book, and looks like it will still be big enough when we plan to travel in Europe, so thats a plus. Not sure if we will be up to the task of lugging 25kg though! I wonder if we should buy two singles instead...hmmmm. Can you use the double as a single, or does it upset the weight balance? And which bit fell off yours? Obviously not somthing too crucial as your girls are ok!

Slimming world - it sounds too good to be true but I'm so glad its working for you! I think if I were to go on a diet I would need the 'rules' laid out for me (as in Slimming world etc) . My usual thing is 'I'm not dieting but just cutting back and being sensible', which usually doesn't work too well I did do WW once, for 3 weeks (all fell apart when DH went away I ate out with friends a lot!), but I did lose on that. I need to lose about 10kg.

If SW has worked so well for you I think you would be great at being a consultant! Go for it!

laundrylover · 19/04/2007 16:29

Hi Astro, you can use the double as a single no problem as there is a harness in the centre. That way you could have a bike seat option for L when you go to Europe for a change of scenery! The bit that fell off holds the front wheel (for using as a buggy)in place so until we get a new one we can only use it as a trailer.

10kg is about 2 stone yeah? That's what I've lost so far since January so SW really does suit me. I have to say that I was sceptical about the whole group thing but I love it! Are you still bfing 'cos if so keep doing it for extra allowances on SW!!

I'm just trying to work out the logistics of my summer holiday in Scotland with sisters and kids....looks like they are all driving up at the end of August (7 hours!), me and DP have a night out seeing The Arctic Monkeys and then I fly up to join them the next day - result! The plan is that whilst we're away the bathroom and kitchen walls will be magically knocked down and every speck of dust hoovered away before our return.

Astrophe · 19/04/2007 22:50

Attention Fiz and LL - another midlander here for you to meet

SmileyC · 20/04/2007 13:06

Hi there.
Hope you don't mind me crashing your thread? Astrophe responded to a post of mine last night and invited me to join you all.

I came on here to try to find some other mums who lived in my general direction. I'm in N Derbyshire, near Bolsover (about 15 mins drive east of Chesterfield).

Anyway, I have a DS who turned one in mid March. I post on another site too but it would be nice to chat to/meet other who have babies of same age (as you all obviously do) and also to get to know a few people in my area too.

Can you tell me a little about yourselves? Whereabouts do you live? What children do you have and what sort of jobs do you do?
Hope you don't mind me joining you.

Astrophe · 22/04/2007 22:58

Bit quiet on here! They don't mind SmileyC, they are just rude .

Well, I am 26, I have a DD almost 3, and DS born March 06 (of course!), I am a SAHM, DH and I moved from the most beautiful city in the world (guess where!) to the Midlands in Dec05

SmileyC · 23/04/2007 10:31

Erm, I've no idea where you might have lived....do I detect some sarcasm? hmmmm. English city? clues please!
I assumed it was quiet because it was the w/e? I don't want to kill off you buddy group!

Astrophe · 23/04/2007 14:04

Oh no Smiley, Friz is away, and we are a fairly quiet group sometimes anyway. Its not you! They will be back soon and will be very welcoming I'm sure...I was onyl kidding!

No sarcasm, I am from Sydney Am a bit homesick this week, so have got mention-itis about it! Was sure if I said 'most beautiful city in the world' it would be imediately obvious to everyone where I was talking about

Must go and try to get ds to sleep - he slept till 9am this am, so not sure he will nap today!
x

SmileyC · 23/04/2007 16:15

Astrophe- good luck with ds nap! wow 9am!
Sorry you are feeling homesick. When did you move over and why the UK/Midlands. When did you last visit? I have never been over to that part of the world I'm afraid. I could have gone when I was at school-my gran's brother lives over there, but sadly I had to stay cos I was nearing my all-important exams at the latter part of school
Are you a fulltime mum or do you work? You said you live in Derby? What do you think of it?

I was joking about killing off your buddy group, but at the same time I don't want anyone to think I barged in! I have been in a bg on another site for about 2 years and it's always a bit weird when someone new joins, though of course we are always welcoming

Better go, ds is trying to wriggle off my lap and onto floor!

laundrylover · 23/04/2007 21:35

Just popping by to say hello to SmileyC and apologise for the thread being so quiet - I'm a bit busy at the mo and not getting on the computer much, off to London for two days in the morning but will catch up properly when I get back.
I'm 35 and have two girls, Tilly is 3 and Kiah just arrived last March on the 29th to avoid me having to make new friends in the April post natal thread! I work part time as a consultant in the voluntary and non profit sector. It's very part time now as my childcare situation is abysmal but I must remedy this soon....we live near Manchester in a mill town.

Anyway getting ready for two whole days away, squeezing in a girls night out in the big smoke. It will be Kiah's longest time without boob so we'll see how she goes....

UniSarah · 23/04/2007 22:08

Hi smiley. just got back from long w/end away at Britush unicycle convention. will post more later in week, but working lots this week so not sure when.
South West unicycle hockey team didn't do very well - we were rubbish in our one tough game :-( . Uni chelidh was fun tho, danced my wheel off.

laundrylover · 23/04/2007 22:56

Sounds like a good weekend Uni, despite poor hockey performance. Is there any Uni activity you don't do???? Unisex????

Astrophe · 23/04/2007 23:17

Hey LL and Uni, long time not read

Have a Q for you both...do your DCs where helmets in your bike trailers? Am always astounded to see adults sans helmets here (its illegal in Aust) but I have no idea whats recomened for LOs in trailers...?

Whens Friz back? I have a Q for her too!

SmileyC · 24/04/2007 09:48

Nice to hear from you ll and unisarah. am off out soon, so in a rush. also out tonight

will get back on tomorrow. thanks for popping on to say hi

UniSarah · 24/04/2007 19:03

no helmet in our trailer, it would push his head forward which I don't want to do. the trailer is designed for his head to rest agaist a mesh panel that conforms to head shape. Whole trailer is a roll cage so helmet seems unnessesary. Differnt trailers may have different design features, other parents may make other choices.

Frizbe · 25/04/2007 20:25

Hello I'm back although only dashing through, hello to SmileyC, I'm just down the Mway from you in Ripley! J28 me dears always up for a meet, in fact we're due a biggie ladies!! Chatsworth again??? on a nice sunny May day? or can everyone make Markeaton?
Astro, I'm dashing off tonight, but you can mail me if you like, I'm more likely to read that for the rest of the evening/skim it, as have come home to loads of work, bah, humbug, remind me to go for two weeks next time!!
Uni, I'm waiting with baited breath for the answer to the previous question asked ttfn girls, catch ya soon!

SmileyC · 25/04/2007 21:43

Frizbe- Wow! You are just one junction away! Fab! I would like to meet you all. I can do Markeaton or Chatsworth, or anywhere nearby. I can do most days cos I'm a sahm. I go to a playgroup on Friday am so Fridays are a bit tricky.
I met with Chloe and Gingermonkey on Tues I think that you know them from the Feb antenatal group? They mentioned you.. I think.....though I might be getting mixed up with someone else....hmmmm. If it's you that's been to Tenerife then it was you, otherwise I'm being a berk!? Do you just have one child?

Hi to everyone else. Need to dash. Want to spend some time with DH. I banned myself from going online today cos I knew that I would not get any jobs done! Might stick at that plan and only come on in the eve. Having a messy house is doing my head in so needs must!

Byeeeeeeee.xxx

SmileyC · 25/04/2007 21:53

Hey Frizbe- I just looked at your profile. Looks like we have similar music taste. Do you like GnR? I was gutted when they toured last year cos I really wanted to go but DH was not keen and besides, the Sheffield date was on his b'day and it was hardly fair to drag him there unwillingly on his b'day. Since I don't know that many people up this way I had nobody to go with and so I missed it (Did not fancy going on own!). Ironically, some friends of ours had a stag do in London, which DH did not go to in the end, and they went to GnR. Gutted!

I also love Alan Bennett's stuff. I recently bought Jonathan Livingston Seagul but have not read it yet. I'm actually an aspiring writer myself but need to stop coming up with excuses, pull my finger out and get writing!

Better go. Oh and I see you have 3 children so don't worry answering my question! How old are they though?

Astrophe · 25/04/2007 22:11

Friz, its not urgent, just wanted to know the name of the pool you once mentioned where they have lessons for under 5s with no mum in the pool.

Smiley, I think Friz has gone for the night - think her kids are roughly SS - 9 (?) DD1- 3 1/2, and DD2- 1 - sure she will correct me later!

And YES, lets get that meet sorted!

SmileyC · 25/04/2007 22:15

Cool Astrophe. Thanks.
Will log off now. Need to wean self off of this site! I think I might put a timer on when I come online, otherwise I'll never see poor DH and it will end in divorce!
I will wait to hear suggestions for a meet....

Astrophe · 25/04/2007 22:17

I know what you mean. Its a great site with lots to offer, but I honestly think it played a (small) part in my PND - ie felt bad so MNed, then felt worse as the house was a mess and children were wild, so MNed some more...but then, ironicly, I also had some lovely helpful advice from MNers! -
All things in moderation eh?
