Frizbe · 05/01/2008 20:02

hellloooooo?

laundrylover · 05/01/2008 21:45

I'm here Friz....have been out of the house as DP had the tummy bug - ugh.

Supposed to be working but my client hasn't emailled me anything thru so sod 'em!

Astrophe · 05/01/2008 22:44

condolences re the disturbed nights Friz - know how you feel Hope tonight is much better for you.

Well, I need your tips and encouragement LL - took DS out without nappy today and he weed in 3 sets of clothes, and only weed on the grass (we were out in a park) once when I insisted. At home he is still good! What to do? I'm thinking this week we will try trousers only (no pants), as it seems to be pants/nappies that trigger weeing. Sigh. I am losing my nerve, but I so want him out of nappies, just because I know he is so close.

DS has also dropped his day nap - or more to the point, I have dropped it, because even 30 mins of napping means he wont go to sleep until after 9pm, which is NOT ON!!!

Lovely weather we had here today, I'd forgotten what the sun looked like! I think I have SAD for sure, I am feeling rather crap again these days, lethargic and shouty

Hope you ladies are well, any snow?

laundrylover · 05/01/2008 22:57

Oh Astro, I don't know what to suggest!!! Stay home for a month???? Seriously tho, go with your trousers only idea and introduce an extra special treat when he wees whilst your out (and not in his pants!). We have a large supply of choc pennies that you could use....

I get a bit down at this time of year too Astro. Did you manage to get out in the sun today? We've had a tiny sprinkling of snow but would like more - want to go sledging!!!

Friz, Kiah is waking too at the mo so maybe it's just all the disruption over Xmas? Am thinking maybe teething too but as she is still in a cot at least she can't escape!

Frizbe · 06/01/2008 19:11

LL I was thinking teeth too, she's still missing her fangs top and bottom, plus her 2nd set of molars She woke at 2.30 and 5.30 today then slept 10-13:00 and I couldn't wake her for toffee, trust me, I tried to wake her to feed ducks at Cromford canal, just got treated to floppy baby to carry, so she ended up carrying on snoozing in the buggy, still it gave dd1 and I some quality time, whilst gran and grandad trailed behind with the buggy

Oh I can recommend the new park bit at Matlock (on the other side of the river) they've put a small fence around it (less worry about kids hurtling off into river) and a pirate ship with sandpit! plus two swing sets, boucing things and twirly things

UniS · 06/01/2008 20:21

NIce sounding park. shame I'm no where near Matlock. bummer about these kids not sleeping through. Boy did teh shouty thing at some point in teh middle of teh night. Dh went up to him twice aparently- I have no recollection of teh 2nd one!
Mind you we did more or les ignore him for a larhge chunk of yesterday as I was organsing and we were playing in a unicycle hockey tournament. 9 teams , round robin on two courts so it was pretty much 15 mins on, 15 off. Boy gotto potter about teh large veiwing agllery with a hockey stick and ball and a few other bigger kids for compnay. With his parents regullary patting him on teh head saying "your OK arn;t you" handing him another peanut butter sandwich and disapearing to play hockey again. Little boy heaven I think. he was good as gold all afternoon.
Today has been lots of colouring, cooking and reading stories to make up for teh beniegn neglect of yesterday.
I'm trying to cut back on teh morning breast feed :-( sad to see it go but think we need to be able to drop it so I can not overflow when I do a bunch of early work days. I like sittig on teh sofa for 10 mins coming too with a nice warm babay cuddling up to me. he's rubbish at waking up too so it suits us both. Am i the last of our bunch?

laundrylover · 06/01/2008 20:40

Evening all,

Friz, I think our two have the same teeth still to come through. Kiah up a couple of times last night but then they both slept til 8am thanks goodness.

Uni, I'm still feeding morning and bedtime. Need the morning feed as do it in bed all snuggled up under the covers. Can take or leave the bedtime one....I'm very lucky with my boobs tho as they don't get so full. When we went away for 2 nights they were fine. I'm not quite ready to stop just yet.....

Back working on this bid - it's for a nappy laundry to be set up in London so am learning lots about how quickly you can wash and dry 2000 nappies!!!

Frizbe · 06/01/2008 21:24

Oooh sounds good LL, if you live over the border here in Nottm and use re usables, the council do a laundry service foc from what I'm lead to believe, good eh!

laundrylover · 07/01/2008 12:28

I'm an auntie again! SIL had Logan Thomas at 1am this morning, whilst I was still working. 8lb 5oz but she only went to the birthing centre at 11pm!! Home by 4.30am and both sleeping now.

He has tongue tie so have set up a thread for her....

laundrylover · 07/01/2008 12:29

Free or subsidised Friz? Free would be amazing - it costs about £10 a week so that's a lot for a council to fork out. Impressive.

UniS · 07/01/2008 21:10

LL- re toungue tie- Can cause big problems with breast feeding. From a breastfeeders point of veiw getting the tie snipped ASAP will help them establish a good feeding pattern. Waiting till the latch problem is obvious may be too late to get a realy good latch sorted with out a lot of grief and expressing.
There are divided opion amoung Drs over snipping tounge ties, however in most areas of teh country there wil be a practicitioner who will do teh procedure. its quick & relativly painless as the tie in a newborn doesn.t normally have much in teh way of bloodvessels of nerves. If you waittill a teen ager its painfiull as has grown nerves and bloodvesals etc...
one of the other peer suporters has a step daughter who didn;t have her tie snipped till she was 13 and had a heart shaped toungue.

Frizbe · 07/01/2008 23:27

LL congrats to you sil there's a Logan on our street.
Ah dd2 had tongue tie I missed it breast feeding adviser spotted it at 7 weeks! (when I did that real nappy event which ended with dd2 in the nappies if you recall!) and asked if I'd had any feeding problems, to which I said, no she's a great feeder, and advisor said, really with that tongue tie in dd2's case it didn't seem to hinder her. It also ripped of its own accord, which is what they like to do around here, as once I knew she'd got it, I enquired of Dr, who said they leave it till they're gone 2 before they do anything,as it usually sorts itself out!

Boiler fixed again for now, possibly a dry joint on the circuit board, so I have the front left off and wiggling instructions from the plumber, he's looking at cost for a new board, which may be more expensive than a new boiler My dad agrees with his diagnosis (builder! so obviously knows about plumbing ) laymen eh!

laundrylover · 08/01/2008 09:40

How old is your boiler Friz? May be worth getting a new condensing one if it's over 10 years.

I didn't know your DD2 had tongue tie - interesting that it sorted itself out.

Logan slept ALL day yesterday so has only fed at birth. He is one tired baby which is suprising seeing as he was born in 10 minutes. Just texted SIL to see if he was up all night and whether he has fed yet. Her MW was very good and said not to worry for 24 hours as he'd be fine.

I think they are not minded to snip the tongue tie so SIL will have to see how feeding goes....

Frizbe · 08/01/2008 21:21

It's allegedly as old as the house, so built 2000 = 7 years this year

funilly enough I had said to the plumber if it was a lot I'd get a condensing one!

dd2 shrieking here, I've just given her nurofen and teething gel, is getting fangs, cheeks brightred

UniS · 11/01/2008 14:51

Hi all. RL is abit busy. off to teh inlaws tomorrow, just need to take full tool kit as there " one or two little jobs we want uniS to do". JOY.
maybe your boiler is older than teh house friz, maybe they built the house a round an old boler that had been dumped on teh site ;-) might explain its rubbish ness.

HAve now beeen given my exeter breastfeeing peer suporter T shirt ! its pink, quite a nice dusky pink but with those words in V unsubtle lettering right across teh tits and they come in one size fits everyone all at once XL only. rreally can;t see myself wearing it to mums and tots.

laundrylover · 11/01/2008 19:26

Hi Uni, your post made me giggle! Love the thought of the builders incorporating an old boiler into a new house. Also amused at the thought of you in your tit tent! Our T-shirts were the other end of the scale - skin tight and fitted and we all, to a woman, had enormous bazookers! We don't often sport them although mine fits Ok now I'm a tiny GG cup.

Friz/Astro has there been a natural disaster in Derbyshire that hasn't hit the news?????

UniS · 11/01/2008 20:23

GG cup? as in bigger than a E cup by quite some way? doesn;t sound like a fitted skinny T would be your thing at all unless t'were one per boob. I am a more modest 36C again these days and get by just fine with M or L Ts , I don;t like super skinny fit ones tho as they ride up at teh back in an anoying fashion.
Maybe derbyshires been washed away again with all this rain.

Astrophe · 11/01/2008 20:26

no, I'm alive! Busy week with house guests from Australia here and all the washing etc to catch up on since they left! I am enjoying an enormous bag of Aussie sweets as we speak. Finished the last of the mince pies today with a friend who came for a cuppa, and so once these sweets are gone I am back on the healthy wagon! I am planning on borrowing / begging (on freecycle) an excersize bike to try and give the once a week gym session a boost.

Kids drove me up the wall this arvo until my mate came around - how do you deal with your big girls (Friz and LL) in the house in the weather? I am going mad. They weren't been naughty, but just loafing around and following me everywhere and whining and not settling to anything - kept finding myself tearing at my hair and saying 'can't you just play or something??'

AAARGH!!!!

Frizbe · 11/01/2008 21:26

LL no, unlike the west country it seems just been on feb thread rather than talking to myself

Astro, here we do sticking with ready made stickers, glueing, chalking, colouring, and playdough which is usually the kids around the kitchen table, whilst I have to interveen every 10 mins to change the activity (as I try not to leave it all on the table or fights errupt) I don't leave them with paint as you can imagine Sometimes they'll play by themselves doing Jigsaws or making tea for teddies if dd1 agrees to be the big helpful sister and take charge! (you're in charge dd1! = she can boss her sister around if dd2 is in the mood!)

If I really want a quiet time (bleaching bathrooms by self for 15 mins or so) I go for Dora or Peppa Pig on DVD.

So found dd2 in dd1's bed at 5am today, dd1 yells 'mum I need the loo' I say go, she say's I can't get out of bed, I say ?, go and investigate, dd1 is whammed against the wall, blocked in by dd2 who is spread eagled sound asleep taking up the rest of the bed......she must have crept in there after she woke at 2am, I put her back in her bed and she seemed to go quiet....now I know it was cause she'd found somewhere else to sleep......

Frizbe · 12/01/2008 10:21

So I got woken up at 5am by dd2 who had once again crawled into bed with me un-noticed at sometime prior to then dd2 was waking up, rubbing her eyes and started shouting 'daddy' which she then continued to shout for the next half hour, whilst running from room to room upstairs, whilst dd1 and I kept shouting at her from our beds, 'daddy's in York' She evenutally gave up and came back to my bed for a cuddle, then dd1 joined us.....dd2 fell asleep again at 6.15 so I dozed till 7, whilst dd1 managed to get herself washed and dressed (only woke me to squeeze the toothpaste ) any more ungodly night wakings on the thread then?

Deposited the kids at meridians this am, she made us all pancakes for breakfast (star!)

Astrophe · 13/01/2008 16:04

urgh, night wakings! - we are having ds up at least once a night. If dh goes back into him straight away he gos back off, but if I go in he wants cuddles, and if nobody goes in he gets out of bed and wanders around the landing crying loudly.

Thats quite sweet about your dd2 hopping in with dd1 friz! Did DD1 mind?

We are just back from lunch with friends, have had a really nice weekend. We got out in the sunshine yesterday, took new bike and scooter to the park with 3 other families. DH drove in with all the bikes, and we Mums took the bus with the kids for a treat (for the kids, not us!), which they were all thrilled about.

I will be working towards doing more crafty things with the kids this week friz - I used to do lots with DD, but not so much recently as ds is rather, er...enthusiastic with paint / glue etc. Time to try again though.

I am off to make some playdoh now, our last batch went manky at the back of the fridge.

I hope you have all had a nice sunny weekend

Frizbe · 13/01/2008 18:56

Well have been working all weekend here, Meridian had the kids for me Sat, and Gran had them today. Dh has been in York, LARPing.(work larping though, so at least some money came in!)
Astro I don't think dd1 minded too much? she didn't say if she did! Your weekend sounds lovely though
I think your right, time to brave the cutting and sticking again! Crayola do a good colouring pack with 'fake' pens, that only work on the paper, this might help for ds!

Astrophe · 13/01/2008 20:55

Sounds busy Friz, you must be tired.
The crayola pens sound good - what are they called?
Made two batches of playdough this arvo - pink with gold glitter and blue with silver glitter - its lovely and soft and the DC loved it. Thanks for getting me motivated again Friz I think I have been expecting them to entertain themselves more than is realistic.

RE potty training - we are making progress! DS has been in trousers (no pants - going comando!) for 3 days or so, and is wetting a couple of pairs a day when we are out, but dry at home, and he has sometimes remembered to ask for a wee when we are out, or has gone when I've reminded him. I think it's going to take him a while to get this, more than just a few days but now that I am seeing some progress I am willing to persevere. I feel I might as well wash wet trousers instead of wet nappies!

Right - off to do some more shipping research, then half an hour on the new excersize bike before a long hot bath

laundrylover · 14/01/2008 09:22

Just catching up....night wakings, bed sharing.....sounds familiar.

Friz, do you think you'll be able to employ some weekend staff soon so that you and DH get weekends off now and again? It's all go for you guys at the mo eh?

Astro, I am feeling a bit stuck in with the kids too and am a ratty mummy. Yesterday was meant to be a nice family day out with friends but we missed the train and all got in terrible moods. Went to BabyLovesDisco (an afternnon club where you take your kids) but it was a bit of a disappointment. Tilly enjoyed it tho.

Working today and DP mucking out the car ready for our weekend away to see the new baby. We have bought a SatNav and also another gadget (like a big MP3 thing - Archos?) so DP will have hours of play time whilst I drive!

Good news about the potty training Astro. Friz, have you got anywhere with DD2? Kiah is being a bit odd at the mo and having a few accidents....not bad considering we had weeks with none at all tho. Very good at nights now and no wet bed for ages. Just need to offload bags of nappy stuff onto my sisters.....

Uni, are you still running? I've just got back into training but did 4 miles, with 1 mile fast, yesterday and found it tough. Have wimped out this morning, after lookig at the rain, and washed my running kit instead as it was well whiffy.

Frizbe · 14/01/2008 10:11

at your smelly running kit, I'd better make sure mine is out of the wash for tonight....going to gym for a run in the warm Sorry you missed your train..... I don't know when we can afford staff at present.....we're holding off as long as possible, as dh is trying to give up his day job 1st (sigh) he's building today.....but obviously doesn't want to......in my mind, staff now would be better, then him joining us later, but he doesn't see it that way......

Astro, that's ok I think they're just Crayola magic pens (think from Woolies in Westfield) you can also get those magic paint books, just water req'd, Tesco do those!

So I was nearly posting dd2's funeral on here this morning
I'm having a wash in the en-suite, leaving the dd's watching tv on the bed, when I hear an almighty crash I spin around, automatically reach out and grab the end of the falling chest of drawers, just off the top of dd2.....the crash was the tv and the rest of the stuff on the top of the drawers hitting the ground (I have no idea how the tv missed her either)....luckily for dd2, who must have decided to climb them??? the bed and my quick reaction saved her from crushing (shudder) I still have no idea how she didn't get squised in one shape or form, I can only assume the bed and my fairly quick reaction did the job oh and the bottom two drawers took a lot of weight too, as the runners are buckled.......my heart is still in my mouth thinking about it.....dd2 stood at the far side of the room looking at me holiding the drawer up, and the smashed tv on the floor, with a 'who me?' look on her face (sigh).....reminded me of that horrible story of the twins who died in similar circumstances a few years ago..........so moral of the story is, if you can, screw your drawers to the wall (we hadn't, as the shower is on the other side of the wall....) shudder.
