Thanks for saying Rodeo is derby maybe it wasn't her then??

Been to Toy Lib at Belper today, was ok, but think dd1 is getting a bit old for it, ya know!

SmileyC · 17/05/2007 21:33

Good God! You lot have been a-chattin'!
Will be back later(I hope) to catch up.
Hope you are all well.

I checked it out LL, and was very saddened! I can't believe a ryvita is a 'syn' (which I presume is a treat?)!!! If ryvita are syns, then what on earth can you eat!!! nutella=syn, well thats fair enough!

Thanks for the tips re portions Friz. Trouble is I have a large appetite and get hungry an hour later if I don't eat a lot! I am cutting back a bit and am hoping I will get used to it, but at the mo I am always hungry by bed time, so have to eat an apple and 2 ryvita. So how many syns is that? I'm doomed!!!

For my sweet tooth I have been having those muesli crunch ryvita that you guys tried, or, if its a bad craving, a single square of choc (about 1 a day - very good for me!). I also found some cakies in asda clled 'banana and almond slices' in the good for you range, and they are 3% fat and are very, very yummy.

I had an awful night with the kids tonight. DD is a nightmare with eating at the mo. Every night w have tears and shouting at the dinner table over her not eating and just generally messing around, getting up from the table etc. Any tips? I@m thinking of a table manners star chart.

DS is appallingly messy - placed his bowl of bolognese on his head tonight, then laughed hysterically and threw it onto the floor. I am breeding MONSTERS!!! Cleaning the kitchen floor three times a day really get my goat!

UniSarah · 17/05/2007 22:18

Astro- random thought, are you sitting between the kids at meals or is one seeming to get more attension in the others eyes. helped my friend with 2 DDs 16 month apart.

dieters- scarey , I'm just going with the exercise and some portion control. Am now back at pre preg wieght, would like to be 6lb lighter but suspect that won;t happen till I stop BF.

BFW- gone well so far, but tomorrow has fallen apart as friends boy has chicken pox so I have no childcare and don;t think I should boy to new baby group knowing hes been in contact with boy wih C pox. Have to ask the 3rd memeber of the peer supporter trio to cover it but she also has childcare probs and has 2 active toddlers. Ho Hum, maybe we will go vivist them another week.

Uni, sorry to hear that tomorrow is going to pot, but think you could be right, better to see if he develops pox 1st eh.

Astro, I sit between my two, and then if dd1 still plays up I deal with it in one of three ways depending on my mood.

  1. Having no nonsense mummy: Naughty step everytime she misbehaves, she has ended up in her bedroom for 15 mins before using this route. But she has come back down and eaten the lot.

  2. Slightly less harsh mummy: Bribary and corruption, eat that and you'll get a treat at end of meal or eat that and you get a star on your chart.

  3. Pushover mummy: I do one spoon, you do one spoon, this is the easiest option with tired girl.

Hmmmm. Jst lost post Why does it let me type a reply and only tell me I've been logged out after I attempt to post my reply???? Nevermind.
Just said sorry that Astrophe is suffering at mealtimes. No advice to give but hope the others' advice helps.

Hope to get on here tomorrow-had a rough day cos I had a fall-out with Mum (VERY rare!), but all resolved now. It sapped my energy for the day and I got a banging head after getting all upset this am.

Right-off to bed now. TTFN

laundrylover · 18/05/2007 07:37

Look at me up and at the computer - washer is full of girl's clothes too as it isn't actually raining for once.

Mealtimes here are often a nightmare so no advice really....I'm trying just to ignore it all and chill out a bit. It's tough as Kiah eats like a horse and Tilly like a flea.

Uni, sorry your day has been messed up...can you bring the pox up here though as I really want my two to get it over and done with....actually with sister's wedding looming maybe not this week. Hope the boy is OK whether he gets it or not.

Smiley, at fall out with your Mum -hope it's all sorted now. Nice to have you back on the thread.

Friz, we have the snot!!! I'm envious of your exercise routine....well done you. Me and girls will walk to tots group and back today and round Sainsburys too! In fact I have to open up tots on my own so that will be a frenzied half hour in itself...

The sun is outonly peeping thorugh a thin bit of cloud but it's there all the same.

SmileyC · 18/05/2007 12:51

Hmmm. Weather v changeable here. V windy and sunny, then overcast, then looks like rain. Had lovely sun and also showers so far. I have a handy tip for washing on these types of days, but only works if you are at home to watch it... I put mine on one of those tall, fold up airers. Put pegs on it all and put it outside the back door-can nip out and bring it in if it starts raining. Only thing today is cos of wind, it's blown over a few times. Got it wedged in against the wall now!
Hope you are all having a good day. Went to our regular playgroup am. May go to town pm if rain holds off. DS having nap. Normally sleeps 2/2.5 hours so ought to have another hour to myself! House is pretty tidy etc, so having some me/lazy time! Fingers crossed he stays asleep!
Am proud to say that I have stuck completely to washables in the daytime, apart from one rogue disp used when the boosters (or wraps?) ran out (bloody rain has really slowed down the washing turnaround times!) Aim to move onto washables for night when I get up the nerve!

Astrophe · 18/05/2007 12:57

Do it smiley! We only changed to washables at night recently, and we have had NO leaks, which is more than I can say fro day time!

We have some wambamboos and some tots bots fleece red wraps, and they have been brilliant. I usually boost (outside the nappy - between napp and wrap) with either a microfibre or some hemp fleece, but even without a booster they have been ok.

SmileyC · 18/05/2007 13:02

I could just buy one or two nappies and see how I get on with them at night. Don't want to spend out alot and find I have probs. How many did you get to start off with for night?
Also, I am rather confused about the fleece wraps-if they are not waterproof, just fleece, how come the wee does not seap (sp?) out onto the vest/bedclothes etc...????

SmileyC · 18/05/2007 13:03

Are there any more meet ups again soon? I could do with having a good look at what nappies wraps you all use etc.

Astrophe · 18/05/2007 13:15

Check out 'for sale' on here, and post a 'wanted', and you might find some nappies.

Th fleece wraps - apparently, some of the moisture passes through and is evaporated, so the nappy inside does not get quite so wet as it would in a PUL wrap. They say that if baby is sitting in one spot for a long time (eg in a car seat) the moisture wont be able to evaporate off, so it will wick out onto clothes. BUT, My DS lies in the same place, on his tummy, all night, and there is no wettness under him, so I don't get it!

I have 2 fleece wraps, and one PUL. I prefer the fleece - his nappy is absolutely sodden under a PUL, and very wet, but not dripping under a fleece. They do stink though!

The tots red wraps are very thick (the coloured ones are not as thick, sadly, although a friend of mines uses them with sucess, but her baby is younger, so less wee!). Another thick brand is 'stacinator' - don't have one, but apparently they are good at night too. Tots have velcro, and stacinator have poppers.

If I was organised and washed as often as I should, 3 wraps and 4 nappies would be enough I think. I have 5 nappies and 3 wraps, and sometimes run ot and use a disposable at night, but once in a while doesn't realy bother me. It seems the more nappes I buy, the less I wash, so it doesn't really help!

The fleece wraps do smell, but you can use them a few nights in a row if you can stand it! Otherwise you can rinse them under the tap and hang to dry, or out them through a rince cycle and dry. My friend washes them in her older DCs bathwater!

Frizbe · 18/05/2007 20:42

crikey lots of nappy talk! I can safely say from a disposable point of view, Huggies are still crap on my dd's. Got 300 points for buying some at boots, so I did, wish I'd not bothered.

SmileyC · 18/05/2007 20:43

Astrophe-thanks for the detailed info, it's just what I needed. Will have a look into wraps/nappies over the w/e. I guess the cheapest option is to start off with my existing nappies-extra boosted, with wraps you suggested. Then if nappies arre not up to night time, I can buy new nappies. Mine may be sufficient as long as I boost well. I might try my original booster inserts with the mf and see if that does the trick.
Thanks again. You're a great help!

Astrophe · 18/05/2007 23:01

What do you have smiley? I also have 2 tots rainbow bots, and they are ok at night with a flece wrap, as long as they are boosted.

SmileyC · 18/05/2007 23:35

Tots Bambozels (sp?). We bought a bundle of 20, so not short of nappies!

SmileyC · 18/05/2007 23:37

Not sure what boosters are made of-cotton? Nappies have sewn-in booster (bamboo)which you can fold up for boys. Wraps are tots; Not sure what kind-they are just the plain unbleached ones.
Right, I'm off to bed now-was v tired this am and want to be more awake for DS tom!

Frizbe · 19/05/2007 13:38

Argh more damn nappy talk
So are you ladies doing anything else bar nappies this weekend
I'm off to view a woods this afternoon in this nice wind, with a view to using them for events. Oh and dh and I are royally getting on each others nerves at the mo, so should be great fun wonder if its a phase of the moon or something?

UniSarah · 19/05/2007 21:03

sorry friz, more nappy talk.
Smiley- We use boys regular nappies and wraps at night. Bumble with booster or little lamb and ME airflow wrap.

Got through friday- was actuly a nice quietish mums and tots session and boy was really ougoing and confident so glad i went to that not new baby group :-)

We went camping last night! loaded up EVERYTHING we will be taking with us on holiday , cycled 10 miles to friends house and camped in their back garden. We were checking we had packed what we needed and in sensible places ( or not as it turned out) so will now amend teh packing list a bit. Boy was a star, he fell asleep in teh trailer woke up when we arived and then stayed up till 9.30 eating garlic bread and playing happily. we were all tucked up in teh tent and he was asleep by 10 and remained that way apart form 2 breif wobbles till 8.30am!

Work alert- I've been asked to tender for a job I've done in teh past but on teh understanding that it may involve working with kit and staff from a differnet producton company to in the past. un decided about this as I like the established company a lot and am not keen on one of the other proposed cos and don't know a 2nd and don't trust the kit of the 3rd. No rush to decide what to do but need to think about it. Might put in two prices?

No spots yet, but keeping eyes peeled for next 2 weeks. AND buying some travel insurance pronto just in case we have to cancel.

Hi all.
Friz-sorry about nappy chat! It's to help me
What is your job? Thing about woods visit sounds interesting......
My family came up for a visit today and yesterday I did some bathroom tiling-getting very close to finishing that now! (been dragging on for about 6months! )

Unisarah-Thansk for nappy info.
again-what do you do for a job? I can't make it out!
What did the boy sleep on when you camped?

Been chatting to DH over the last couple of days a have semi-decided to start trying for #2 in Nov/Dec/Jan so that we hopefully have an autumn 08 baby. Also want to really get a move on with our house-moved 2years ago;was an old lady's house with whole thing to be decorated/had no proper kitchen etc. Reckon we can get it done by end of year but only with babysitting help from family. So have got two family visits booked in the diary already. Also going to really try to improve fitness by end of year-all of above is to get prepared for #2.

Frizbe · 20/05/2007 21:11

Yay going for no2 Smiley

I do Live Roleplay for a hobby see here here let me know what you think, its not all geeks honest

Hurrah for Camping Uni, its great I love it, although our tent is definately dead. We tried to replace the broken bit on the mainframe today (khyam middle instant pop up bit) but the spares supplied were for the other two joints on the tent, turns out this one cannot be replaced.....so off tent shopping tomorrow, as can't wait for them to sort it out as tent needed on Friday, bah

UniSarah · 20/05/2007 22:14

what is my job- good question smiley. I'm self employed... I work with lighting and power distrubution equipment in the presentation and performance industries. or put overly simplisticly - I light shows and prepare and maintain the kit too. The job in question is an outdoor show in november with restricted acess to the site and thus restricted power and some major safety issues to work with in, restricted rigging positions as the whole set is torched at the end of the show and a cast of 40+ doing big song and dance numbers. The same site manager has done it for many years and I'm not sure I want to do it if hes not in charge.

OP posts:
Frizbe · 20/05/2007 22:18

Can see your point Uni. Go with the two quotes thing and see what happens, you can always say no later? or will that get you a bad name?

Just re read my post, tis not my hobby, tis my job, !! lol

UniSarah · 20/05/2007 22:38

bad name- no I don;t think so, they have had several lighting designers over the years as people move on but the site chap has done 20 of 21 ! I'm more interested in working for / with him in future than on that particualar show. I only split fom working FOR him on this show 2 years ago to save the show organisers 35 quid in VAT ( In not VAT reg, site chap is).

OP posts:
SmileyC · 21/05/2007 17:32

Frize-Wow, that's a different job! I guess you enjoy it?
Uni-Does that mean you have to travel to lots of venues?
