Thankd guys sorry to be so down dh has just rang to say he is finishing work early

NatalieJane · 27/03/2007 14:24

Debbsy, don't worry about being down, that is what we are here for. I remember when I was on the TTC thread when we were trying with George, and I can remember posting something along the lines of:

When you are trying for a baby and it takes so long to get pregnant, and then you get your BFP and everything is perfect, pregnancy mode kicks in everything is about the pregnancy, getting things ready and sorted for the baby, making sure the money is there, making sure you are staying as healthy as poss, everything in place for the day when it kicks off and you become parents for the first time, when we had DS1 we brought him home from the hospital got in the door and it was like, now what? What do we do? Everything that was a dead cert before is now on its arse, the house is full of stuff that shouldn't be there, getting in the way, you want to sit and relax and watch the soaps, but you can't, you want to get in the bath but you can't, you want to nip to the shops but it takes an hour to prepare for the five minute walk round to the corner shop for some milk.... I know I for one spent the first 6 months exhausted, hormones all over the place, run down, feeling guilty because I'd failed at BF, constantly asking myself should he be doing X Y and Z by now? Is he hearing OK? All of the appointments and weigh ins, all the visitors and HV's - it was basically a hellish nightmare for most of the time!! And then there was DH.

But it isn't all doom and gloom, don't forget summer is just around the corner, there will be trips to see the ducks and playing in the sand at the sea side, all of the things that you imagine while you are pregnant will start happening. The nights are lighter and longer now and that in itself perks everyone up a bit.

Just try and go with the flow, take the opportunity tonight to have a chat and then make a pact that from now on you will both try to be a bit more senstive to the others feelings, and try and stop worrying about it, there will be highs and lows for months to come yet, the only way to get through it is to work them out together and basically try to minimise the fuss each one kicks up along the way.

staceym11 · 27/03/2007 14:30

debbsy i know how it feels, we had all this uproar with ds (think dd was different as we were still at mums so dynamics werent quite right anyway!)

and we had that huge row last week! i cant stand it when he critisises (ok i cant spell!!!) my parenting skills, iv told him, you dod what i do day in day out and see how long you last!!!

the new one is because iv started smoking again but acctually if i didnt take that time out i might kill our children so perhaps i best keep it up for the time being huh??

men are a pita! but we would be lost without them!

saralou100 · 27/03/2007 15:44

Me to I gave up completely before I got pregnant with George and just started having some on Saturday nights, then when I found out I was pregnant I stopped completely again, and the saturday after George was born I brought 20 and have just been buying 20 a week, if they all go at the weekend I don't have anymore till the next but most of the time I have a fair few on a saturday night and then just one or two an evening, still only buying 20 a week though.

Everything in moderation they say

staceym11 · 27/03/2007 16:09

oh its not just me then i only buy 20 a week and dont smoke in the house, only outside but otherwise i do fear i might kill dd sometimes!! shes just at an annoying age really!! everything is a whing or 'no'.

and what with ds teething i have either one or both of them hanging off me at all times, its driving me potty!!

NatalieJane · 27/03/2007 16:31

I either smoke under the extractor in the kitchen if it is really freezing cold, normally I go in the porch, it is a double glazed jobie with a window in it, and completely closed to the house.

And I don't want to go back to smoking all the time like I have done before, but I do enjoy being able to have a glass of wine and a ciggarette in the evening.

podglet · 27/03/2007 16:43

Oooooh, you bad ladies (born again non smoker here).... actually, give us a virtual puff

Debbsy, hope you have a nice evening with DH home early, don't worry about ranting to us, it's what we're here for.

saralou100 · 27/03/2007 17:02

see stace, you were just the 1st to 'fess up!!

OP posts:
staceym11 · 27/03/2007 17:23

oh that makes me feel a lot better!

Charleesunnysunsun · 27/03/2007 20:03

Evening all.

I have spent all day at the cf clinic with Jack today so im a little frazzled, i gave up smoking when i fell pg with jack so that's out............. a glass of malibu and coke though is certainly not! (My tipple of choice!)

I think i am getting somewhere with Harry's constant crying........... i think he need more solids.
I know, i know he is only 18 weeks but Jack was weaned early and he seems to want it so i give it to him!
He was jsut having literally 3-4 tsps of baby food in the moring with about 5oz of milk which keeps him happy all morning until lunch time when he starts screaming.
He usually screams all evening as well so today i gave him some more food with his bedtime feed and he is out like a light sound asleep so i think i will give him 3 tiny meals a day with his milk feeds.
I will let you know how i get on but tbh what with everything else going on with jack i can;t be doing with Harry screaming blue murder all day!

We have started putting him in just a romper suit and a grobag at night, he is constantly boiling even with no heating on, im dreading the summer!
He is really big now really tall, im not sure where he gets it from as im only 5'2 and DP is 5'9 so were not exactly 'tall people!'

Anyway DP's dinner is merrily burining - oops!
Hope all is well. xxxx

fatbetty · 27/03/2007 22:12

Just wanted to drop by and say hello and hope you all are doing well.

The last few night Madeleine has been terrible at getting settled and staying asleep. Last night she was up every 2 hours and was really difficult to get back down. Of course she would love to sleep on me or DH but that's not going to happen! Not sure if it's teething (as she is dribbling a lot!) or if I should start weaning her. We are off on holiday in 2 weeks and really rather wait to start weaning until we got back. She's absolutely fine during the day, it's just at night that she is so unsettled. Just wondering if anybody else is going through this....

I've been using a grobag at night but finding that Madeleine's hands are like ice when she wakes for a feed, even with an extra blanket on top of her.

Ah, well I'm off to bed. I'm absolutely shattered and have a man coming early tomorrow morning to fix a leak in our conservatory....finally!!!

podglet · 28/03/2007 08:27

Morning,

I too am a grobag fan, DS loves his and I put him in a long sleeved vest and a sleepsuit as his bedroom is the coldest room in the flat. I then swaddle him in a light sheet to keep his hands in otherwise he waves them around and wakes himself up!

staceym11 · 28/03/2007 08:33

i never quite got my head around the grow bags! ds as to be swaddled still coz otherwise his hands pull the dummy out his mouth (without his consent of course coz he screams!!) so i tie his arms down! lol

fatbetty hope madelaine is ok!! try and get some rest, what with her and ds2 you've really got your hands full! sending you

Debbsyandson · 28/03/2007 08:38

things no better back later x

saralou100 · 28/03/2007 09:36

ds1 hated grow bags, but ds2 loves 'em! he also loves being swaddled.. basically if it involves a cuddle he likes it!!

had a row with dp this morning-arse!!

he wouldn't get up with the boys 'case he was tired and needed a shower.. or something like that!! not my fault if he's choosing to work on his day off! e went to bed at 9.30 last night.. i had to stay up to do ryans last feed at 11, so why should i get up!it's only an extra half hour anyway... still got my revenge by flushing the toilet 3 times whilst he was in the shower and running taps.. don't mess with me in the mornings!!

you ok debs? i'll be back in a while if you need a chat!!

staceym11 · 28/03/2007 11:15

oh debs hope your ok, sound a bit stressed, im around all day now if you need a chat!

NatalieJane · 28/03/2007 11:31

Morning all, not a good night here either.

When DH got home yesterday about 6.30, he woke George up (who had been asleep since lunch time) so I picked George up to feed him and noticed he was a bit warm so I took his clothes off and gave him some calpol, fed and changed him, he started to cool down so I put his sleepsuit on, we had dinner, got DS1 to bed, then we were led on the floor with George (who seemed fine now) playing, he was laughing and giggling, then when we went to put him his rocker chair to go to sleep he felt really cold so I put his blanket double on him and thought nothing of it, we started watching Dangerous Minds at 10 o'clock because there was nothing else on, about 10 minutes later George started breathing really funny, sounded like he was shivering, so DH picked him up and cuddled him up with us with a blanket wrapped round him, he still felt really cold to touch, he didn't stop shivering and if anything was starting to look worse, so I said should I ring NHS direct, DH said yeah give it a go, but I was starting to panic and could't remember the number, so I was looking for Georges red book thinking that will have the number in it, in the meantime Georges breathing was getting worse and worse, his eyes were rolling around his head, he was in and out of conciousness and had gone grey, he wasn't responding to anything or one, and was really violently shivering, so I said I am going to ring an ambulance, I managed to say "15 weeks old, freezing cold, not breathing properly, in and out of conciousness, not responding, looks awful" ambulance was here before I'd finished saying it, as soon as the paramedic walked in he said the baby is too hot, we stripped him down poured calpol down him, he had some oxygen and off we went to A&E blue lights (again - I am starting to get used to this now!!) basically we had to wait there till his temperature came down got home about 2-ish (poor DS1 he is off school today, might take him in after lunch though) and all the advice they could give was keep giving him calpol although sometimes it doesn't work (their words!) keep him undressed with a fan blowing on him so he stays ultra cool, and ring them if he starts fitting again. Cheers mate, I think we could have managed to do that...

He looked so poorly, they said the shivering like that was his bodies way of trying to cool down, but he felt cold to touch, I've never seen anything like it.

Anyway, Debbsy, I'm sorry last night didn't go too well, we are all here if you want to rant.

Sara, I am loving your revenge ideas

staceym11 · 28/03/2007 11:38

oh NJ poor you must be so scary!! hope hes alright now and doesnt do that again!! with all ds's feeding problems etc he's never scarred me that much so i should count myself lucky really"!!!

NatalieJane · 28/03/2007 12:20

I don't think I have ever been so scared in my life Stace TBH. The odd thing that has happened with DS1, I have been worried about him don't get me wrong but we have never come that close to loosing him.

When we got in the ambulance they were looking for those thermometre strips for the head to take his temp. and they didn't have any, so the paramedic felt his back and said he was really hot, got him to hospital and their thermometre that they normally use wasn't working, so they had to use a surface one which doesn't give the best reading, so we don't actually know what his temp. was at it's worst, but we had been in the hospital for an hour with him with no clothes on and a fan blowing on him for the whole time and when they eventually managed to get a readable temp off of him and it was 37.6 which she said was only just coming into 'normal' range, so it had taken him a whole hour to cool down enough to get normal-ish.

We are feeling pretty shell shocked and very very very lucky today!!

Anyway, must get DS1 ready for school, poor thing he was shitting it as well, he didn't even know the whole story and even he was asking if George was going to die

staceym11 · 28/03/2007 12:37

oh NJ, poor ds1, poor all of you really, sending positive vibes to you!!

NatalieJane · 28/03/2007 13:17

Thanks Think we will be needing them!

I hope Debbsy is OK.

saralou100 · 28/03/2007 14:10

oh nj, poor little george! i'd have been shitting it! buy a thermometer, in the ear are best for this age! the body does some tricky things to compensate and cover all your warning signs up! hope the poor little man is ok soon! did they do any tests to see what caused it? infection somewhere maybe?
