Here we go girls - Amie, Kiwi, Dixia, Flannelettepyjamas, we can start comparing motherhood notes on this one and wait for the others to arrive one by one. Although I suspect the other thread will be our home until there's critical mass. To those of you still waiting to join the post-natal people - get a move on!!

CallieNewMum · 13/03/2007 14:36

Muppet - mine went on for about five-six weeks. I needed the maternity pads for about four-five of those weeks. (I think- it seems like an age ago.)\

Flannel, really hope the trips back and forth to SCBU aren't killing you. I found it bad enough just with Jordi to think about let alone having another child. Really hope Jessica comes home soon. It's amazing, Jordi has been home only four weeks but I already keep forgetting he was in hospital - probably mental defence to forget the stress!!! Good luck with the bfing.

Seems like 2-3 hours is the norm for the feeding at this stage - I really can't remember what the other two DCs did - funny how you forget.

My lochia usually lasts about two weeks - but I belive anything up to six weeks is considered normal. Mine atm keeps stopping the starting again.

Someone on my other thread referred to these early weeks as a "Babymoon", as in "Honeymoon", which I think is a really nice thought.

My friend who is a BF counsellor is popping over tomorrow to check my latch...left nip seems fine but right breast is a bit more challenging...

eidsvold · 13/03/2007 21:56

flanno pjs - glad to hear from you. Sorry it has been such a tough time treking back and forward to SCBU. Can remember those days with dd1 - thankfully we did not have another one to sort out as you do - it certainly made life easier.

Hope Jessica is home sooner rather than later.

shanks313 · 13/03/2007 23:28

Hi,

Just popped in to see if anyone could tell me what to expect from HV visit tomorrow?

CallieNewMum · 14/03/2007 11:11

She'll weigh the baby, ask about feeding, how you are feeling, any problems, questions you have, may give you details of clinics/parent and toddler groups/when the baby needs her immunisations. My advice is write down anything like that as she tells you!!! I couldn't remember stuff in the beginning.

AmieR · 14/03/2007 12:08

I was sooooo worried about my HV coming, but thankfully she's lovely and really helpful. I'd heard some scary stories and of course, with your first you really have no idea what you're doing. But all went well.

I've seen her twice now, and I got to a clinic a week tomorrow, which reminds me, I must make a note of of the things I need to ask her.

Any one else's LO really struggling with wind/colic or belly ache? Little Joseph was so uncomfortable last night and I felt so useless.

muppethasakitten · 14/03/2007 12:28

Foxy - so glad you said your lochia keeps stopping and starting - mine is the same - just when i think it's finishing it starts up again. I read in the newborn bounty book that if it hasn't gone brown after 4 days or so to check with the midwife - but that seems incredibly quick to stop - i'm nowhere near that!

Amie - i have vague memories of my dd getting dreadful colic - it always came on in the evening and night and i can remember trudging up and down the bedroom with her screaming at me. I think we did use infacol in the end - but i can't say it took it away completely. I think some babies are more prone to it than others. The only other thing i can suggest is to really try for a burp after each feed - even if they've dropped off to sleep and you don't want to wake them. If the over the shoulder rub doesn't work you could try sitting them up and leaning them forward and backwards in a rocking motion... sorry not much help really!

kiwibella · 14/03/2007 14:21

I hope that we stay on our "babymoon" forever!! I really like that expression Foxy Each day seems to be a little easier and I am totally enjoying being a new mum - much to my own suprise. I can't believe that my biggest concern was giving up my job ... now it's the fact that I will ever have to return .

I saw the MW for the final time today and have been discharged with all the questions asked and boxes ticked. A HV came last Friday and another phoned earlier in the week. I'm not sure what happens at the clinics and feel a bit nervous about turning up at one.

When she is awake, Kate is probably feeding hourly atm. She is still only taking from one side each feed. There have been a few times where she has had a bit of sick afterwards. I mentioned it to the bf supporter yesterday but she didn't think it was enough to be worried about. Do any 'professionals' worry as much as a mother ???

I should have had a sleep today but have managed to start my way through some of the piles that have been accumulating around the place. Dh has done a fabulous job of keeping up with the housework but the mess is getting to me.

Hope everyone is having a great day today and all the babies are happy and thriving.

Hello ladies

Still no action from me in the labour department. All set for my CS on monday.

Foxy, Monti is lovely - what a gorgeous little boy!

We are all very fed up and moaning on the other thread. The wait is getting to us all and we are short tempered and grumpy. By the time we make it over here, we will be serene and gentle again.

Hope everyone is doing well. See you soon XXXX

CallieNewMum · 14/03/2007 16:48

Muppet, I bled properly red blood for about four weeks!

Jordi had the first round of his immunisations today. Oh bless his little heart, he screamed once for each shot but fell quiet straight away afterwards. The nurse was amazed. I felt my own heart bleeding because he was so non-complaining. Waiting to see if he has any averse reaction to it. He fell asleep quickly after I fed him then woke crying but think he was still hungry so he had the rest of the bottle and is out again. I feel so bad knowing he's got another two rounds of this to come. It's a beautiful day but I haven't wanted to bother him by taking him out again anywhere as he's resting.

Kiwi, the thought of returning to work fills me with dread. I just don't want to miss any time with babes, especially as I had to be apart from him all that time at the start of his life.

Hi,

Well we had the health visitor come today and Deanna had her hearing check and was weighed. The HV has to return on Monday as the right ear was unresponsive.Deanna has put on 6lb since birth which is good news.
She slept better last night, from 12-2.30 then from 4.30 to 9.45.I was impressed lol.

Should be getting some more new mums on here soon

eidsvold · 14/03/2007 21:09

i found the last two times with my lochia that it sometimes came and went as well - if I was overdoing it - more lochia.

THink mine was on and off for about 3 - 4 weeks.

kiwibella · 14/03/2007 22:03

oh, bless Callie... don't you feel so awful when they cry!! Hope that Jordi is doing ok - atleast he won't remember these ones

Shanks... Deanna has put on 6lbs since her birth?? You have a tremendously healthy baby there. Glad the sleeping is improving.

Poor Dolly and everyone who is waiting. Looking forward to seeing you on this side, calm and serene .

muppethasakitten · 14/03/2007 22:07

Thanks for that eids and callie... i was beginning to think there was something wrong!

muppethasakitten · 15/03/2007 11:56

Looks like Rosy will be joining us now!!

divastrop · 15/03/2007 12:07

hi everyone.

im feeling a bit better today.Elsie only woke for a feed just before i went to bed then once more at 3.30am...then slept till the standard getting up time of 7am which was good.its amazing what a difference sleep makes.

is anybody else on here formula feeding??

i took both babies on the school run this morning.for some reason all the playground mums seem to think im either mad or i have a useless lazy dp cos im already leaving the house every day

dp keeps telling me to wake him in the morning to help out but i like to just get on with it.

i better go cos dd2 has done me a present by the smell of it.

i will look at everyones pics later, but i dont want to post any on here till i make my profile private cos i dont like the idea of the world and his wife having access to pictures of my children.

take care all.

CallieNewMum · 15/03/2007 12:20

Diva, there's a new AN thread, link further down, in case you didn't see it. I'm formula feeding too and so is Shanks, will be glad of an old hand to discuss it with. Come on over to PN though, as I won't be checking this one (or the new AN thread rather) much.

CallieNewMum · 15/03/2007 12:22

Oh

Sorry Diva, thought I was still on the old AN thread which I had been checking out. Bad shame (can I plead tiredness as an excuse???).

She slept better again last night from 2-8.30am.

Deanna likes to really knock back her milk and she is sick quite often after, does anybody else have that?

AmieR · 15/03/2007 16:28

shanks - 2-8:30????!!!!
