Here we go girls - Amie, Kiwi, Dixia, Flannelettepyjamas, we can start comparing motherhood notes on this one and wait for the others to arrive one by one. Although I suspect the other thread will be our home until there's critical mass. To those of you still waiting to join the post-natal people - get a move on!!

leo - just read your post again - with newborns you're constantly awaiting that cry aren't you?

We got really worried this arvo, cos Monti slept for about 3 hours - kept checking his breathing etc

foxcub · 09/03/2007 21:38

Muppet have you had a poo yet?

I haven't, but have had loads of lactulose in the hope it will just "happen" effortlessly - I think the co-dydomol the hossie gave me has constipated me though

bethoo · 09/03/2007 21:56

fox - you should poo soon, i did on the third day though i think it may be bacause during pregnancy you eat less as tummy compressed and so now your stomach is back to noprmal sie it takes a while to fil it. that was my daft theory anyway!!!

lo is settled in his moses but i hate leaving him alone so will have to gently lift him up and take him downstairs while i watch telly. i should catch some sleep though. must have some coke before bed as another long night ahead of me.

catch you girls tomorrow.

kittywaitsfornumber6 · 10/03/2007 10:06

Just to let you ladies know that Diva had her little girl Elsie yesterday evening. All is well

muppethasakitten · 10/03/2007 11:30

Foxy - I pooed yesterday evening!! It was a long and drawn out process and required great courage and fortitude on my behalf but I DID IT!!! Held a pad against my tear if only for peace of mind. By good fortune my insides did not fall out and i survived to tell the tale . Good luck with yours! (what on earth is co-dynamol?)

Bethoo - love your theory on the old eating less during pregnancy! Someone clearly forgot to tell my stomach that! I hate the saggy paunch you get left with in the days after birth... dd keeps wobbling it!

Would like to express a little in the days to come and let dh give Samuel a bottle but what bottles is everyone using - i have got the new tommee tippee ones but not many - don't know how people are getting on with different teats etc??

eidsvold · 10/03/2007 11:46

instead of cotton wool for cleaning bums (never got on with that) - I use nappy liners like these with warm water - like using a wipe iyswim.

here

just throw away with the nappy as you would a wipe although these are supposedly flushable.

another thing I used with the dds and will use with this one ( along with cloth nappies, wipes and liners.)

Cut up extra strong jay clothes and you can recycle them. Have some that must be about 3 years old and still going strong - still used for two in nappies and about to be used in no3.

eidsvold · 10/03/2007 11:47

sorry just poking my head in to see how you are all going. Nothing happening here - just hot!!

Leoladyofleisure · 10/03/2007 15:36

Wonderful news about Diva!!!!! Great a girl to pink up the thread a bit !

The nappy liners are a great idea Eids.

Your digestion definitely takes a few days to get back to normal after pregnancy. Talking about intestines, this pregnancy has destroyed my stomach muscles so badly that when I lay on my back I can see my intestines moving around ! I am shocked at the state of my belly as I was extremely fit and well toned before pregnancy, after ds1 was born every thing sprung back into place quite nicely but his time I wonder if I will rver get the muscles back again !

foxcub · 10/03/2007 17:44

Hi everyone - had a slight scare last night when Ds refuesd to come anywhwre near the breast, but he happily BF again today - phew!!

Muppet - I pooed this morning - or rather expelled several hard rocks - no damege done either!!

I use avent newborn bottles with anti-colic teats as they are supposed to be like the nipple in the tongue action required and so avoid nipple confusion..

Brilliant news about Diva and Elsie - just trotting off to find her birth story...

AmieR · 10/03/2007 18:25

Great news about Diva! that's great, sweet name too!

I'm also using the Avent bottles and teats! Joseph seems very happy with them, i put him to breast first and when he's struggling/beinglazy/winding himself up I give him my expressed in one of those and he's happy!

Ohh great tip Eids thank you!

This afternoon DH and I went to the cinema as a couple! DH's folks looked after Joseph, it was very nice to get out the house and do somethng we always used to do, but it felt very weird not having Joe with us...

CallieNewMum · 10/03/2007 19:52

Do you know, since I posted about Jordi peeing on me often, he hasn't done it once. Do you think it's the magic of MN ??

Those liners sound like a good idea, thanks for that Eids.

Ooh, cinema, sounds fab. It is strange being away from the baby though isn't it? the few times I've left him I do get the feeling of wanting to be back with him quite soon.

Where's Diva's birth story then? I'm off to look for it too!

OP posts:
foxcub · 10/03/2007 20:22

ahh Diva's not quite back in circulation yet it seems...

Monti hasn't peed on me yet, so feeling abit left out.

Amie - Monti always falls asleep during feeds, so I have to wake him up by tickling, blowing on, chatting to him etc and it takes ages, whereas when I express and feed him from the bottle he gulps it all down. I find that the bottle makes him more sick though, as he drinks too much.

Was a bit worried last night as he refused the breast and wanted the bottle, but have had him on the breast again today - phew!!

Can't wait until we get some sort of routine established.

AmieR · 10/03/2007 21:36

Fox, I too am longing for a routine... well, one that isn't every 2 hours, last night was evil, and DH didn't wake once when Joe cried, tonight he will though, from my elbow to his ribs!

foxcub · 11/03/2007 10:30

Amie - I was thnking the same thing too about my DH - Monti woke me up about 10 times last night. He was so hungry and wouldn't sleep properly until I put him next to me in the bed at about 6.30am.

Also, when the codeine wears off I feel achey over my whole body, I think partly from the labour and partly from being exhausted.

But, the news is that Monti went to bed last night with dark blue eyes and woke up with brown eyes!!!

muppethasakitten · 11/03/2007 12:47

I had the opposite problem last night... Samuel only woke once at 3am and then not til 8! I was panicking that there was something wrong with him and kept poking him to make him move!

Also... my boobs took on a concrete like quality and in the end i had to express a load myself.

Good news is that he's already gained an ounce from his birth weight and is now 8lb 6oz so i guess missing the odd feed cant be doing too much harm.

Anyone else got divartification (spell?) of the stomach muscles?

CallieNewMum · 11/03/2007 17:16

Samuel slept from 3 till 8? Oh .

Fed Jordi at 12.30ish, and he didn't go back to sleep properly, so I was pretty much awake until 4am when he wanted next feed. Was absolutely shattered but DP was awake and took over thank god. I woke at 7, got up to make next bottle - DP normally does the first morning feed but figured he wouldn't want to after doing the 4 - love him he took the baby off for feeding and kept him with him, AND did the next one too. However it hasn't stopped me being knackered now because although I probably got about 6-7 hours in total, it was still after 4am and broken. I'm still trying to feed Jordi a bit myself but after doing it five times yesterday he made my nipple bleed - owww. I do wonder if it's worth it for the tiny amounts (if any??) that he'd be getting. But somehow I can't bring myself to stop completely.

We went out with him in the sling today and I fed him in the park!!! That's a first for us. I've only fed him in the house or my mum's until now.

Can't wait to see a pic of brown-eyed Monti, Fox.

The talk on the AN thread is of dirty houses - oh my god, people should see mine, or rather they shouldn't. I'm off now to try and reduce the kitchen to something approaching clean rather than resembling the Young Ones' house. I want a dishwasher so much but DP is not keen for some absurd reason (I should point out he does most of the dishes as he makes most of the mess so would be in his interest you'd think) so my job now is to talk him into it (and into sorting it out - points need moving, plumbing would need sorting - what do i know of these things??).

OP posts:
AmieR · 11/03/2007 18:30

Yeah... I'm very jealous of Samuel's lengthly sleep!

How often are you're LO usually demanding to be fed? Joseph seems to be literally every 2 hours! I try and nurse him to see if its anything else, but nope, he's always hungry... I am scared that I may be overfeeding him.. but then again he demands it and only takes what he wants but still.. at one feed he polished off 3foz and wanted more... whihc is the most he's ever had on one go. I am struggling to keep up with expressing and putting him to the breast all these times and am really considering going full formula, I really didn't want to but I can't see any other way for me to ever get any rest, but I'd love him to setill get some of my milk.

Don't know what to do...

a dish washer would be awesome! My mum came over on friday and gave my house a little bit of a spring clean, bless her. Even though I'd already done it as I knew she was coming!

Wow! eyes can turn just like that? I thought it would be a gradual change... Joe's are a very murky blue at the moment. Been like that from birth!

Callie - quick Question, How alert or awake is Jordi during the day? does he make a lot of noise.. like talking to himself?

foxcub · 11/03/2007 19:24

Callie - LOL at your young ones house!

Amie - Monti feeds every 3/4 hours during the day and was every two hours at night - but last night it was every hour!!

He seems to sleep all day and then an night wants to sit propped up, looking round the room!!

Someone suggested I leave the radio and light on all night so he thinks night is day and sleeps at night instead!

Muppet, I had to express to cocrete boobs this morning too - 80mls worth! Luckily I had a stored bottle from yesterday which DH gave Monti while I pumped.

Don't you mean Dive-fartification - too much wind?

shanks313 · 11/03/2007 20:16

Hi

Everythings going well for us and Deanna..we got discharged today from midwife care.
We have upped her feeds as she kept guzzling and being sick because she had it too fast.
Also having the problem with her sleeping all day and wake at night. The midwife told us to keep waking her up...but how do you keep a newborn awake? lol
My mum looked after her last night for us so we could get some much needed sleep and Deanna actually slept from 1.30-7.45am.
She is such a joy though...been visiting family with her and everyone says shes perfect and looks like a little doll.

Good t hear everybody else is doing okay

foxcub · 12/03/2007 10:21

Hi Shanks - we have the same problem with Monti sleeping in the day and then awake all night. A MW said its because babies know that mummies make more milk at nightime and also find it easier to sleep with background noise. So last night I left the radio and light on and Monti did sleep better and lo and behold, he's awake now!!

I think when he sleeps in the day nI'll put him in a dark quiet room,(up to now I've let him sleep in whichever room I'm in), so hopefully he won't sleep for four hour streches like he did yesterday.

My nips are completely ravaged now - are anyone elses?

MV coming over later so will show her my crap latch. I seem to have lost all my BFing skills since DD three years ago, but also think DD mastered the art straight away too and was an efficient feeder.

How is everyone else today?

Paddlechick666 · 12/03/2007 10:29

hi all

foxcub's asked me to post here so you can click my profile and see a pic of the latest Cub.

congrats to all that have arrived and lots of luck to those who are in waiting!

Mossie · 12/03/2007 12:22

Foxy your little cub is adorable!!!

I came looking for you actually, as I wanted to show you this . I thought I might find you here!

AmieR · 12/03/2007 12:32

Mossie - that will keep me entertained for a while

Mossie · 12/03/2007 12:40

Amie they have a section for wet blokes, and for bespectacled blokes. I'm more into the latter, so I could spend hours on there!

LaidbackinEngland · 12/03/2007 12:41

Foxy - your little cublet is just too cute
