Here we go girls - Amie, Kiwi, Dixia, Flannelettepyjamas, we can start comparing motherhood notes on this one and wait for the others to arrive one by one. Although I suspect the other thread will be our home until there's critical mass. To those of you still waiting to join the post-natal people - get a move on!!

WEll bakc and feeling better now
Finn has been very calm all day, slept and fed, pretty much all day, another growth spurt methinks (perish the thought better unpack some 3-6 mths size clothes --- have I got any? )

Have put a pic on of him smiling, he has been smiling over a week now but getting a pic has been hard but DP and I managed - after his hellish night the young fella has been all smiles today, making me realise how much I adore him after all

divastrop · 22/04/2007 20:46

piffle-what a cute pic!you did well to get a smiley pic this early.glad you're feeling better now.

i managed to get a photo of all 5 kids togetherso have put it up for a short time.

TheBlonde · 22/04/2007 20:49

Lovely pics Diva & Piffle

Mossie · 22/04/2007 20:58

Oh Piffle Finn is gorgeous, I'm glad you're feeling better!

Diva your brood is adorable!

Off to have a decaff tea

Dh is asleep on the couch! He genuinely seems to get more tired than me... even though he isn't the one bfing! Could just be the caffeine though, we'll see how it goes now I'm gonna cut back down.

How soon should I start expressing, it will be great when he can do a feed at night?

Mossie · 22/04/2007 20:59

Blonde... I do tickle his cheek but it doesn't always work. Am going to try and wake him with a nappy change between boobs... fun & games!

I'll stop asking if I'm doing your head in but I am dying to know if you have a name yet...?

Piffle · 22/04/2007 21:05

Diva bloody well done to get them all together! Great photo! Your dd has gorgeous long hair, how do you manage to keep it so tidy, my dd is a nightmare so we keep it in a short bob!
I've just popped on a photo of my very good looking older (In my humble opinion and all the local girls opinions if the knocking at our door and his mobile phone is anything to go by) ds1 (13) holding his baby brother a few wks ago.

Rosylily · 22/04/2007 21:06

what gorgeous pictures Piffle and Diva. Lovely to see them.

Piffle · 22/04/2007 21:10

and one of dd with her hair, dolls and erm bad taste in non matching stripes
And her very skinny legs

Piffle · 22/04/2007 21:13

Mossie I used to do that with dd, she was very sleepy and fed for a few seconds then switched off, even before let down, she had poor weight gain as well, so I used to flick her feet (gently) or run my fingers up and down her spine.
And wake her up with a nappy change. But I'd always slug her onto the same boob again to ensure she filled up mostly with hindmilk (the fatty stuff that keeps them asleep LOL)
I think a lot of us with oversupply feed off one breast per feed...

TheBlonde · 22/04/2007 21:16

We have finally chosen a name (well a first name anyway) - Lucia

divastrop · 22/04/2007 21:20

piffle-dp keeps on at me that i should get dd1's hair cut short cos every morning she and i have screaming matches about it,but when i was young i used to dream about having long hair cos my mum always made me have it short and i cant bring myself to make her get it cut.

i would just like to point out that we didnt choose pink walls, they were that colour when we moved here and we cant be arsed decorating

sazzybee · 22/04/2007 21:20

Lovely pics

I've put one up of the cat trying to eat the baby . The baby is a lot higher than the cat so that claw isn't actually about to go into his head but I realise it looks like the NSPCC should be called

Well this is the first evening in 3 I've had - it took me an hour to get him down tonight and that's the best it's been. Last night and the one before he was awake 5 until 11. I was wishing unspeakable things last night but now I've had an hour or so to myself he's my favourite baby again. He also took his head off the boob this evening to give me a huge gurgling grin so I can forgive him anything.

Sorry there is a spate of rough times going round. And very sorry to hear about the thrush theblonde - that must be horrible.

It will get better. This is my mantra ...

divastrop · 22/04/2007 21:24

lovely pic sazzy.last night our cat walked through the moses basket, over the baby, rather than round it.lazy cow!

Piffle · 22/04/2007 21:54

Amazing how one smile makes you forget all the hellish times.
I think it is not knowing what it is they want...
I mean when dd is up all night, I know she is
sick/sore throat/itchy/hot/cold/lonely
But with a baby you try a million things and none work
So I often just think oh sod it, here have another go at the boob, if you vomit, well it's just washing after all...

sazzy you always make me chuckle with your phraseology
Where is the Society for the Protection of Nipples and Mothers Psyches huh that's what I want to know...

foxcub · 22/04/2007 22:07

Sazzy - you don't look 42!!!

Diva/Piffle your kids are gorgeous. Piffle your DD and Ds2 really look alike!

Mossy - I burp Monti to wake him, talk to him, blow gently on his head, also compress my boob by pumping it just beyond the areola or stroking it (google "Dr Jack Newman" for details of breast compression) - both of which work very well to get him drinking again. Is all else fails I'll change his teeny bum to wake him. Or sometimes just put him down gently on his back and he soon wakes up angry that boob is no longer in his mouth LOL!

I often burp him then just hold him upright and chat to him to wake him. I always pop him back onto same boob 2/3 times until boob goes really soft and empty feeling, nipple is long wrinkly and dry looking (ie. looks empty and "spent") and he really can't drink any more....Then I wake him again and put him on the other boob and find the rush of foremilk usually wakes him enough to have a bit of a drink. So his typical feed is one boob includimng hindmilk (about 12-15 minutes worth of sucking in total) plus some milk from second boob.

then he goes for a good 3 hours between feds - he usually possets some up though...

As I have a tendency to blocked ducts I get as much milk out of each boob and into him as possible at each feed. I also stroke the boob towards the nipple while he's feeding, to clear any blockages and keep the milk flowing (so keeping him awake). Have found as the weeks have gone on his become a lot more efficient and less likely to fall into a deep sleep

sounds complicated but I am a bit anal about feeding due to having had mastitis so much in the past (and thrush...)

Talking of not being able to relax - do you think caffeine is affecting Bertie? Apparently it does, but apparerntly so does chocolate and that hasn't stopped me eating it!

Kitty - glad your nips are recovering. I really, really thought I had BFing sussed after feeding DD for 18 months but I realise now that you have to relearn it with each baby as they all suck differently. It took me 4 weeks before Monti and I "learnt" to feed with each other - strange isn't it? We still get the odd dodgy latch.

well kids are back and school in the morning - sort of arrrggghh until I get them to school and then "phew" until 3pm when I have to collect them

foxcub · 22/04/2007 22:10

PMSL: Society for the protection of Nipples - oooh yes please lets start one!!!

kittyhas6 · 22/04/2007 22:28

Piffle , Sazzy and Diva, your babies are luvverly I did take some of all mine, must get round to posting them.

I've done too much today, have started bleeding alot again after it was tailing off .

Foxy, you sound like you are doing so well, good on you

Off to bed, knackered

kittyhas6 · 22/04/2007 22:31

Just wanted to say, you lot who keep you babies awake to keep feeding make me feel.
I am so glad when he nods off that I put him down and leg it!!! Mind you I have tried putting him back on same boobie once he comes off and he's having none of it. Maybe he's had enough?

foxcub · 22/04/2007 22:45

Kitty - don't overdo it!!!

off to bed now too, watching "Dog day Afternoon" with a delicious young Al pacino

watched Cold Mountain this arvo/eve while feeding - brill film

...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

eidsvold · 22/04/2007 23:24

the blonde breast thrush is horrid - keep smearing your nipples with daktarin oral gel - prevent it being passed to your baby.

mossie caffeine in coffee can cause babies to be unsettled - as can caffeine in chocolate - i jsut have decaf coffee - found a fab brand and have that instead.

dd3 is settling down although yesterdya was horrid - she is such a breeze compared to dd2 who was soooo demanding and exhausting.

piffle you did the right thing - when things get too much - walk away - helps if you have dh/p there to take over if not - pop them in the bed/moses basket and give yourself a little time out to collect yourself and start again.

gotta run - time to get dd1 ready for kindy.

Dimpled · 22/04/2007 23:25

Hi - not part of your thread at all but wanted to drop by to wish you all the very veyr best!

(and a little )

(theblonde keep bumping a thank you thread for you - are you around?)

LunarSea · 23/04/2007 07:26

New thread here as this ones about to hit the 1000 posts limit.

Rosylily · 23/04/2007 07:39

Piffle your dd looks really brilliant in all the stripey stuff and with all her dollys, she looks a great character. Your ds1 ...very handsome!

Diva I quite like your pink walls! The children look lovely, a great achievement to have 5 bubbly children.

The blonde what a lovely name!

Sazzy your cat looks cute though not as cute as Elliot of course, my cat is black but he lives with my mum now, I really miss having a cat.

Fox you sound like a very thorough breast feeder! I find that once Hasan has fed and fallen to sleep (usually after one boob) I can't wake him for love nor money. His mouth is clamped shut in a tight pout and his hands are up like paws and he looks like a bunny

He hardly brings up wind, it all comes down and whoever is standing close gets the blame cuz it doesn't sound like a little babys bottom!

When Hasan has wind he gets all squirmy but he still hardly cries ever and I'm pinching myself.

Still yesterday I had a terrible headache. ds2 is getting me up twice a night. The key is I have to get to bed early. I remember it took 3 months for dd to settle when ds2 came along so I am trying to be patient. It's very wearing though.
