Here we go girls - Amie, Kiwi, Dixia, Flannelettepyjamas, we can start comparing motherhood notes on this one and wait for the others to arrive one by one. Although I suspect the other thread will be our home until there's critical mass. To those of you still waiting to join the post-natal people - get a move on!!

shanks - Samuel does the same - combination of being greedy and trying not to choke on my milk which does come out with a force. I think he swallows so much air it forces the milk back up.

The only time i think you need to worry is if they are obviously unwell with it or if it is projectile - ie shooting several feet!

CallieNewMum · 15/03/2007 19:55

Shanks, jordi brings back milk on most feeds and I've been a bit worried too but I guess that's just what they do. This morning he did bring up a load apparently - it was DP's feed - and he was hungry again quite soon after so we fed him more and he was fine then. I do try to wind him quite regularly which does help. I do it about every 20-30ml as far as I can judge it. He doesn't seem at all distressed about it or projectile vomits (apart from once last week - on DP's brother ).

Also echo Amie's post - 2-8.30??????? How much is she eating in one go?

shanks313 · 15/03/2007 20:03

Good to know Deannas not the only one then.Sometimes it can be with a force but she doesnt seem bothered by it.We give her a little milk then stop to let it go down or to wind her.

Yes 2am-8.30am lol.Shes on about 100ml a feed now,the health visitor recommended about 105ml.

CallieNewMum · 15/03/2007 20:57

how many feeds a day does she have? and do you stick to it regardless?

Hi - just popping in. Have contracted mastitis so been feeling ill and sorry for myself

Hope every one else is having a better time of it than me!!

foxcub · 15/03/2007 21:13

Hi Diva - congratulations on Elsie!! Nice to have you back in circulation

I'm BFing but topping up with formula at nights - for my sanity!!

shanks313 · 15/03/2007 22:59

Her feeds usually go 8.30am-12.30-4.30-8.30-12.30 and maybe one around 4.30am if she doesnt sleep through. We have been feeding on demand so it ranges between 3 and 5 hours between.

muppethasakitten · 16/03/2007 09:11

Oooh Foxy... poor you - did wonder if you were ok... that pesky mastitis forced me to stop bfing my older two so I really do feel on tenterhooks each day to see if i fall prey to it again. I had so many courses of antibiotics with my dd that it seemed silly to carry on.

I hope you're on the mend and well done for continuing to feed yourself. A friend of mine did mention some success with homoeopathy in prevention... may investigate for both our sakes!!!

Callie - was wondering about Jordi yesterday... did all the scans go ok regarding his head? I can't remember the outcomes... i bet it feels a lifetime ago that you were dashing back and forth to hospital.

foxcub · 16/03/2007 09:14

Just read the posts I didn't have time to read yesterday.

Diva - I agree with you about profiles. Monti is online 'cos babies are pretty unidentifiable after two days LOL! But would seriously not put other kids on my profile - in fact I haven't even done my profile LOL!!

Monti was an angel last night - only woke me once (thanx to formula top up ) and he's asleep now so I've had a nice bath.

BUT...Am sitting here (TMI alert!) with no pants on as Monti is asleep in my bedroom and am too scared to creep in and get some pants form the drawer!!

In case you are wondering I am sitting on a maternity pad!!

I'd be interested to know how much sleep people are getting at night and whether you are managing to catch up during the day?

I'm getting about 5-6 hours, then 1 hour nap if I'm lucky each arfternoon. Not sure what will happen next week though, when DH returns to work [terrified emoticon!]

kiwibella · 16/03/2007 10:23

ditto Fox - sleeping about five to six hours at night and about an hour top up during the day. Not every day tho 'cause I seem to find too many other things to do .

I went out last night and boy did it feel weird. Just to eat with a couple of workmates - something we used to do regularly. It was strange putting on something other than trackpants and even digging out my make-up bag for a dash of mascara. The chat was far too much work but, I guess, that was our relief and way to get things off our chests. I really don't miss the place - definately the people but not the actual work . I totally enjoyed indulging in a large glass of wine and it had such a relaxing effect .

Anyways... sorry to hear about the mastitis Fox. Is this something that you can overcome? We do the bottle top-ups too although Kate doesn't seem to be settling or resting for as long the last few days.

Great to see you back Diva... hope that you are feeling ok. You are brave doing the school run already. I so understand your wanting to get on with things and not disturbing dp.

Wishing everyone a fantabulous Friday...

kiwibella · 16/03/2007 10:26

Shanks... is that 100mls of a formula feed? Is that about how much they should be taking each feed? I have been expressing from my left side with a breast pump because bubs has chewed to massive holes in my nipple but I wasn't sure how much she should be getting.

foxcub · 16/03/2007 10:41

Kiwi - the most I've ever been able to express at any one time is 80 mls, and that was first thing in the morning!

divastrop · 16/03/2007 12:40

hi all..im feeling shite again today.i dont know if its the baby blues slightly late or if im just p*d off at dp who has been depressed since i came home and although he's still doing stuff around the house hes still on the pc alot of the time whereas im finding it hard just to get time to pee .back soon,mw here.

divastrop · 16/03/2007 13:18

didnt mean to just moan and run then.

well, good news is my bp is back to normal now,so i admitted to the mw that i havent taken my tablets for 4 days.

i went to a concert that dd1 was singing in last night in the church next to their school.i took Elsie as well and the vicar's wife asked me how old she was so i said 6 days and she said'and what are you doing out??'.
i think i preffered 'havent you got a telly' type comments when i was preg

i was on my own when dd2 was tiny so i had no choice but to take all the kids to school every morning, just having an extra baby to get ready doesnt really make much difference.i remember the first time i took ds1 out when he was about a week old it took me about 2 hours to get out of the house.i was only going into town and i took about 6 nappies, a change of clothes ,bibs etc.
now i just make sure i go out between feeds and take one nappy and some wipes just in case.

who was talking about how much milk babies are drinking?Elsie is having 3oz(im still on old fashioned measurements)7 times a day now,and shes already using the 3 month plus teats cos shes impatient like her mother

kiwibella · 16/03/2007 13:39

oh Diva... sorry to hear it's not a great day. I was asking about how much to express - I have only been feeding on one side and expressing from the other. But, I've given the 'damaged' side a go today and it, at least, wasn't painful.

Kate won't sleep! Yesterday I ended up falling asleep in my bed with her on my chest. This morning she only slept for an hour. I fed her and have just given her a bottle - in frustration. She only drank an ounce before nodding off. The HV phoned earlier and I mentioned this to her. She suggested a three week growth spurt??? I don't know. My dd was a terrible sleeper - she didn't during the day - and I would hate this to happen again. Breathe!

Dh is off to Australia tomorrow. It seemed like a manageable idea way back when. I'm a bit apprehensive now .

divastrop · 16/03/2007 20:56

im not bothered if they sleep during the day as long as they do so at night.when dd1 was born ds1 was 11 months old so i had 6 weeks of no sleep atall untill dd1 learnt that night was for sleeping!

bethoo · 16/03/2007 22:17

hi everyone and welcome to the new arrivals.

does anyones little one cry for a feed and then when you put them on the breast find that they just fall asleep, i think i am just a big pacifier these days! should i invest in a soother?

i am on the right post aren't i as i have been away!

eidsvold · 16/03/2007 22:27

foxy was going to reply on the other thread.

They say you should keep expressing at least form the infected breast to keep your supply up. Do you have a breast pump???

shanks313 · 16/03/2007 22:50

Just managed to get online as had a very busy day today.

The 100ml Deanna is being fed is formula feed.

We had another good night last night, she slept from 1am-8.30am,she tends to have a unsettled 3 hours in the evenings which probably tires her out.I dont know how she can be too tired though, she sleeps all day long.

muppethasakitten · 17/03/2007 09:35

Looks like we'll have a real influx of posters on this thread soon!

Bethoo - Samuel sometimes does that - or has a quick guzzle for like 60 seconds and falls to sleep - leaving me leaking everywhere!

Foxy hope you areon the mend.

Diva - i've been feeling really flatt at times this week... i think it's partly a reality hits thing but whatever... i can relate to what you're saying.

Signed off by mw yesterday... as she was leaving she called me by the wrong name... nice! I feel like giving her a bad report now in my maternity satisfaction questionnaire!

foxcub · 17/03/2007 11:06

Bethoo - Monti has suddenly started doing the :

cry, latch, sleep thing

then when I put him down he cries again!!!! I remember DS1 doing the same thing too!

He woke me up at 5.30am (I went to bed at 1am), had a slurp of foremilk and it has taken me 5.5 hours to get him to get a decent feed inside him! This has included undressing him, blowing on him, tickling toes, tugging ears, bathing him etc etc etc

Its so exhasperating!

Eids - I spent many and hour with my pump at the infected breast but it refused to produce anything while blocked. However, I did get Monti to suck on it a lot (lots of sucking but v little swallowing IYKWIM) and he seems to have triggered the supply again and is getting some milk out of it now. I think the milk is cream rather than foremilk, but my other boodb is constantly leaking thin milk so he's probably getting enough somehow. He doesn't seem overely concerned anyway!

I had really forgotten how exhausting and lets face it, exasperating new borns are - I mean Monti is 11 days old now; he really should have this feeding lark sorted by now don't you think?

Oh BTW, my lochia dried up then last night I had a huge bleed - had to ring the hossie - but it has calmed now. They reckon its from picking up DD yestereday (she's 3.5). That's what kept me awake until 1am as I had to monitor it!

Hope everyone else is getting more sleep than I am!!

flannelettepyjamas · 17/03/2007 11:28

Thanks to all for your encouraging words. Jessica's feeding is still a bit of a problem on and off but the paed thinks she will be ok to come home on Mon, the nurses think later in the week. We'll see. Foxy, sorry to hear about your mastitis - it sounds awful. I've had the odd blocked duct so far and that's quite sore, I hate to think about actual mastitis! Hope it gets better very soon.

divastrop · 17/03/2007 11:42

fox-that happened to me with the lochia yesterday as well,i had nothing all day then after i put dd2 to bed there was a big gush.i bled constantly for 2 weeks after i had dd2 this time its been stop-start from day 3

unless she is having her wide awake time,Elsie cries for a feed then falls asleep soon as i put the bottle in her mouth.shes taking about 45 mins to drink 3.5 ounces of milk, but she keeps it all down.

muppethasakitten · 17/03/2007 12:02

I really hate this lochia business - no idea why but i've a real bee in my bonnet about it! I hate the fact that i'm still bleeding for some reason - even though it's only 12 days on.. i know some of you went on for several weeks - which is reassuring to know... don't know why i'm being so pathetic about it!!!

Foxy and Diva - if i had a sudden gush like that i'd probably pass out!!

Hope you're both ok now.

at my mil. First thing she said when she saw Samuel today was - "Oooh he's still ever so orange" and when i said he'd put on 6oz since birth she said "Oh well, breast-fed babies never really lose weight though do they? It's a lot easier for them to get bigger..."
Felt like screaming at her... "Well, it's not bloody easier for me cos I'm the one who's knackering her body to make this milk for him...."

Sorry - had to rant there. Feeling bit sensitive today

divastrop · 17/03/2007 16:12

muppet-i was under the impression bf babies put on weight slower than bottle -fed.i was fed up with bleeding after dd2 cos it went on for 3 weeks, whereas with the first 3 it was no more than 10 days.

can anyone who had their baby before me remind me how long it takes to get any feeling back 'down below'.soz for tmi but i just feel numb atm and i keep singing 'dead from the waist down' by catatonia.
